The sequel to the hit <keyword id="30679" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="horror-flick">horror flick</keyword> <em><keyword id="500381" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ragini-MMS">Ragini MMS</keyword></em> netted Rs 24.5 crore at home during the debut weekend while 4th day (Monday, March 24) collections stood at around Rs 4.5 crore nett at the <keyword id="827271" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Domestic-Box-Office">domestic box office</keyword>, as per industry estimates.<br />

But keeping in mind how horror has flourished this week, we are focusing on just two movies today – <em>Ragini MMS 2 and</em> <em>Gang of Ghosts</em>. We will have another ‘Box Office’ story tomorrow and bring you the rest of the three movies, along with their box office performances.<br />
<br /> Coming to performance, let us tell you that the <keyword id="1465525" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="horror-comedy">horror comedy</keyword> <em>Gang of Ghosts</em> did decently at the domestic box office and total collection after the first weekend was around Rs 14.25 crore, against a total budget of Rs 15 crore. That is not at all disheartening, taking into consideration the tough competition posed by the <em>Ragini</em> sequel, which is already way ahead of its total budget of Rs 18 crore.<br />

Interestingly, <keyword id="303" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Director">director</keyword> <keyword id="820957" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bhushan-Patel">Bhushan Patel</keyword> had earlier helmed another successful horror flick – <em>1920: Evil </em>Returns. <em>Ragini MMS 2 </em>has been produced by <keyword id="6354597" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ekta-Kapoor">Ekta Kapoor</keyword> and <keyword id="154993" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shobha-Kapoor">Shobha Kapoor</keyword>.<br />

Now that we know the awesome numbers the movie is commanding, let us have a look at what’s selling <em>Ragini MMS 2</em>. Well, that’s a kind of no-brainer in this context. A <keyword id="2165868" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sizzling-Sunny-Leone">sizzling Sunny Leone</keyword> flaunting her assets throughout the movie and looking a bit more confident than usual (who wouldn’t when one is portraying her own character), and some <keyword id="2165869" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Spooky-elements">spooky elements</keyword> craftily thrown in here and there to keep the fear factor alive are tantalising enough to be lapped up by the audience. Add to that chartbuster songs like <em><keyword id="38162" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Baby-Doll">Baby Doll</keyword></em> and <em><keyword id="2019181" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chaar-Botal-Vodka">Chaar Botal Vodka</keyword></em>, and you have the perfect recipe for box office success.<br />

Unlike the prequel (<em>Ragini MMS</em>) that featured a balanced mix of <keyword id="2165871" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Horror-and-sex">horror and sex</keyword>, the equation has changed this time, along with the cast, and tilted heavily towards the explicit. However, the horrex picks up from where the earlier one had left, telling us the fatal story of a movie production team that has come to the infamous haunted <em>haveli</em> to make a movie on Uday and Ragini, whose earlier escapade in the house had gone awry. In fact, it won’t be a bad idea to watch <em>Ragini MMS</em> once again before you watch the second in the series. Now that the leaked MMS made by Uday has gone viral, film-maker Rocks (<keyword id="6532013" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Parvin-Dabas">Parvin Dabas</keyword>) decides to cash in on the scandal; ropes in Sunny as the female lead and lands at the house for the shoot. Here, Sunny seems to be at her explicit best but the bone-chilling moments are not missing altogether, in spite of their routine predictability. For instance, you will find the quintessential exorcist in <keyword id="2165872" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dr-Meera-Dutta">Dr Meera Dutta</keyword> (<keyword id="18941" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Divya-Dutta">Divya Dutta</keyword>), to say nothing of the usual trappings of a <keyword id="1571333" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="paranormal-thriller">paranormal thriller</keyword>. Maybe erotica and a heavy dose of <keyword id="2165874" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Quirky-humour">quirky humour</keyword> have been the saving grace of this movie, along with the terror lacing.<br />

The other horror release of the week is <em>Gang of Ghosts</em>, a photocopy adaptation of the original Bengali flick, <em><keyword id="494729" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bhooter-Bhobishyot">Bhooter Bhobishyot</keyword></em>. Directed by <keyword id="2218" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Satish-Kaushik">Satish Kaushik</keyword>, this one tells an intriguing story of an <keyword id="2165876" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Over-urbanised-Mumbai">over-urbanised Mumbai</keyword> and how the departed souls are compelled to leave their last stronghold as haunted houses are speedily turned into high-rises and multiplexes. The original one has a touching message in the guise of comedy – one can actually sense the pain of getting uprooted as your city turns too affluent to be affordable. But the <keyword id="39358" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="hindi-remake">Hindi remake</keyword> falls flat in spite of veterans like <keyword id="6533" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Anupam-Kher">Anupam Kher</keyword> and <keyword id="297" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jackie-Shroff">Jackie Shroff</keyword>. Still, those who have not watched the original may like it enough – that could be one possible reason behind its moderate box office success.<br />

MMS 2 Thrills All; Gang Of Ghosts Lacks Finesse

<ul class="summary-list"><li>People are criticizing a women's tech conference after it was flooded by men.</li><li>Women reported being shoved out the way by men submitting resumes to employers at the Grace Hopper conference.</li></ul><p>A tech conference celebrating women and non-binary people in computer science sparked a backlash after people said it was dominated by men.</p><p>The complaints were about the The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing which took place in Orlando from September 26 to 29.</p><p>On TikTok, attendees said men shoved women out of the way and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.tiktok.com/@yashitha_suren/video/7283937503956995374?_r=1&amp;_t=8gAbeAtknXV">cut lines</a> to submit resumes to the big tech companies that attended the job fair.</p><p>The conference organizer, AnitaB, acknolwedged that the event fell short and said it was investigating the complaints.</p><p>One video, posted by a coder named Gabby, showed groups of dozens of men talking with recruiters and lining up for booths.</p><p>In the caption, Gabby said she had waited in line to speak with a recruiter when a man skipped to the front and "cut off" her conversation.</p><p>A product designer named Lily Li shared Gabby's video and added some thoughts of her own in a TikTok which amassed over 1.5 million views.</p><p>She said the conference was set up to tackle the lack of female representation in technology "despite women being the first coders."</p> <p>The event markets itself on its website as the "world's largest gathering of women and non-binary technologists," and tickets set back attendees around $1,300.</p><p>It's named after Grace Hopper, a pioneering mathematician whose work helped the US Navy develop its computing in World War II.</p><p>"Prepare to be immersed in a vibrant atmosphere of growth at GHC 23, the world's largest gathering of women and non-binary technologists," the conference site said.</p><p>"Connect with like-minded individuals, gain insights from luminaries and esteemed technology leaders, forge lasting connections, and supercharge your skillset."</p><p>The reality was a much different picture, according to women who attended and later complained about the conference online.</p><p>Li shared a LinkedIn comment left by an attendee towards AnitaB, the company that runs the conference.</p><p>She said she suspected that cisgender men may have "finessed" the system by pretending to be non-binary, or selecting "prefer not to answer" on their entry forms, though there is no solid evidence for the claim.</p><p>"On top of that these men are acting like zoo animals, sprinting to the booths, and physically hurting the attendees," she alleged.</p> <p>Insider found many more public comments on LinkedIn left by female and non-binary attendees where they expressed their disappointment over the experience, describing a place "over-capacitated by rude, disrespectful, and female-attacking men."</p><p>Many said they saw no men attending the panels hosted by women and non-binary people discussing under-representation and inclusivity in tech. They just appeared at the job fair, making it difficult for women and non-binary people to even get in, the comments said.</p><p>"Instead of feeling inspired and energized, I feel drained and overwhelmed," one woman named Nandini Agarwal wrote, saying she waited in line for hours to get in.</p><p>"I've missed half the day! I want a full refund, worst experience ever!!!"</p><p>Others said they saw disproportionate amounts of men being offered interviews and being let in to after-parties. Some said they had been bothered and harassed and even hit on. One woman said a man handed her his resume when she wasn't even working there. Another said she saw worrying behavior, including a man taking a photo of "the female recruiter's lower body."</p><p>"Chaos was the word of the day," wrote a woman named Preeti Ladwa. "Many men, attending as non-allies, overstepped boundaries. We witnessed inappropriate comments, breaches of personal space, and a sheer lack of decorum."</p><p>Another woman named Nivrithi Garimella said left one line "due to unchecked men displaying aggressive behavior, ganging up to trample women completely."</p><p>"I feared for my health and safety and fled the scene first thing in the morning," she wrote.</p><p>The LinkedIn page for AnitaB replied to many comments, saying itwas looking into the reports.</p><p>Bo Young Lee, AnitaB's advisory president, posted a video on LinkedIn on Friday in response to the criticism. She said the event had always felt like "a safe and loving and embracing" place in the past.</p><p>"This year, I must admit, I didn't feel this way," she said. "And I know that many of you felt the same. Many of you are feeling unsafe, physically, and psychologically, and you're feeling unheard."</p><p>She said that she and AnitaB were taking the feedback "so personally."</p><p>"We tried to create a safe space, and this week we saw the outside world creep in," she said. "This makes me angry, and it makes me sad, but mostly it makes me want to fight."</p><p>She said the company did its best but "it was not enough."</p><p>"I want to thank you all for speaking up, for listening, and I really hope to see you tomorrow," she said.</p><p>Insider has reached out to AnitaB for further comment.</p>

When it came time to fulfill his church-sanctioned mission, the teenager opted to attend college instead.</p><p>"I was there to party and have a good time," says Udall, running his fingers through his hair. "Then the eSports thing came around, and it gave me a focus and a new vision."</p><p>Today, he plays video games up to 10 hours a day and is one of the top ranked collegiate "Heroes of the Storm" players in the world. He landed a sponsorship earlier this year, which means he was paid real US dollars to do it.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>In April, Udall, 20, and his classmates from Arizona State University took the stage at CenturyLink Field Event Center in Seattle and played in the March Madness of video games. <span>The annual </span><a href="https://www.heroesofthedorm.com/">Heroes of the Dorm</a><span> tournament invites students from nearly 400 colleges across the country to duke it out in "Heroes of the Storm," a multiplayer PC game.</span></p><p>ESPN and Blizzard Entertainment, a leading game developer, are on a mission to make eSports accessible, digestible and - most importantly - delightful for the masses. The immediate challenge is getting people invested in its nationally broadcast events.</p><p>Their solution? A rag-tag gang of floppy haired teenage boys.</p><p><span>The premiere sports and entertainment duo</span> are working to focus their eSports coverage on players like Udall - with complex backstories and a surplus of charm, rather than the games themselves - to attract viewers who are <span>used to enjoying more traditional programming on their favorite sports network. Heroes of the Dorm does just that.</span></p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>The final four teams received an all expense paid trip to Seattle, where they competed for a half-million dollar prize pool and serious bragging rights. Thousands showed up to cheer on their favorite team, while over 110,000 more tuned in to ESPN2 for the live broadcast.</p><p>Events like Heroes of the Dorm are important to the eSports community because they bring together players who may lack community on their campus and raise awareness of the sport as a whole. While the global eSports audience experienced explosive growth last year, the question remains: Why on Earth would you want to watch other people play video games?</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>During last year's Heroes of the Dorm debut on ESPN2, Twitter erupted in outrage. "<em>How could the nerds sully the sports network's image in this way?"</em> Only 100,000 viewers watched. By comparison, the average NBA game on ESPN drew <a href="http://www.wsj.com/articles/whats-wrong-with-the-nbas-tv-ratings-1450744363">1.5 million</a> last season.</p><p>That doesn't mean Blizzard and ESPN are giving up.</p><p>"There's a lot of work that needs to be done to get the general audience to recognize these aren't kids sitting in the basement eating potato chips and playing games all day long," says John Lasker, vice president of programming and acquisitions at ESPN. "They're talented, and their talents are unique, not dissimilar to your professional basketball or football player."</p><p>The plan may be working.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><h2>Becoming the NBA of eSports</h2><p>Among fans, "<a href="http://us.battle.net/heroes/en/">Heroes of the Storm</a>" goes by another name: "Blizzard the Game."</p><p>It combines characters (called "heroes") from franchises across Blizzard Entertainment's years-long portfolio, including "Diablo," "Warcraft," "StarCraft," and "Overwatch." Two teams of five compete on a battleground fraught with computer-generated "minions," ghostly pirates ships, graveyard golems, and other obstacles. The objective is to destroy the other team's base (or "core") before yours falls.</p><p>Simple enough. But, like getting a touchdown or earning a run, achieving this goal requires more than raw talent. It's about teamwork.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Dustin Browder, an 11-year veteran of Blizzard and the brains behind the company's hit title "Starcraft II," says the idea for the game sparked while reading former UCLA basketball coach John Wooden's memoir, "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Wooden-Leadership-Create-Winning-Organization/dp/0071453393">Wooden on Leadership</a>." His urging that the needs of the team always take priority left an impression on Browder.</p><p>Until then, most games in the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genre favored the player who was a little more talented or a little luckier early in the match, awarding them more and more power until they obliterated the opponent in a humiliating defeat.</p><p>"I wanted to make a game that was inspired by this idea of good team-basketball, where there's not one player scoring 50 points," Browder says, "but we're passing and everybody's scoring and we're a threat from every direction. [It's] about becoming better than the sum of our parts."</p><p>"Heroes of the Storm" (pronounced "hots" for short) accomplishes this challenge.</p><p>Instead of players earning experience points, which grants them new abilities on an individual basis, the team levels up as a unit. There are no in-game items that propel a single character forward. Side quests, such as capturing a mercenary camp or collecting coins, are seldom done alone.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>The game debuted in April 2015 during the first ever Heroes of the Dorm event (competitors trained on a beta release), and it has experienced modest success since. Market research firm <a href="https://newzoo.com/insights/articles/esports-drives-21-3-of-twitch-viewership/">Newzoo recently published</a> data on the most popular games on live-streaming video platform Twitch, and "Heroes of the Storm" didn't even crack the top 15 games. The titans of the MOBA genre, "League of Legends" and "Dota 2," eclipsed it by a combined 672 million hours watched.</p><p>Still, a growing cult of fans are abandoning the favorites and moving to "Heroes of the Storm." The emphasis on teamwork - as well as the short 15 to 20-minute average game time - makes it a standout title in the crowded eSports field.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><h2>How do you broadcast a sport to 100,000 people who don't play it</h2><p>Some 250 million people watched or played eSports in 2015 (up 13% year over year), according to <a href="http://venturebeat.com/2016/01/25/esports-market-to-grow-43-to-465m-in-2016-and-reach-1-1b-by-2019/">Newzoo</a>. As <a href="http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/id/13059210/esports-massive-industry-growing">ESPN pointed out</a> in last year's gaming issue, if the eSports nation was an actual nation, it would be the fifth largest on the planet. For some, it's the centerpiece of their lives.</p><p>Still, the appeal of watching other people play video games eludes most traditional ESPN viewers. So, Blizzard focuses the narrative of Heroes of the Dorm around the "human storylines" instead.</p><p>"It's just human nature to look at someone and eventually get involved, especially if it's a storyline you like," says Tim Frazier, one of the tournament's broadcasters and a community manager at Blizzard. "We'd rather you pay attention to that and get the game on the side."</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>In the two months leading up to the championships, Frazier and three others were tasked with studying the players who were likely heading to the finals. They watched replays of their games and analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of their strategies.</p><p>"We're actually doing what the opposing team should be doing to beat them," Frazier says.</p><p>Closer to the finals, the Blizzard employees interviewed the players over the phone. These interactions bring another layer of familiarity that makes the broadcast all the more captivating.</p><p>"You watch a 'real sport,' like football or soccer, and you can see the sweat. You see them working hard. You see the players get tired," Frazier says. "Bringing in the human element to eSports is what we try to do."</p><p>On the day before the championship match, when the "Heroic Four" compete for the final two spots in the bracket, the broadcasters make a big show of introducing the players and their backstories.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>There's Udall, whose good looks are mentioned as much as his skills. A sideline reporter interviews his parents, who flew in from Mesa, Arizona with their family and made "Michael Udall Fan Club" T-shirts in Arizona State's colors of maroon and gold.</p><p>Then there's Jay Christ, a round-faced Southern boy and University of Tennessee player who goes by the in-game name "Gutslug."</p><p>When he started playing in the tournament's round of 64, the broadcasters doubted he had the skills to go far. But he practiced every day, wanting to make his team proud, and now he's considered a powerhouse figure among the Heroic Four.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>The teams have stories, too.</p><p>For example, the University of Connecticut's Tricky Turtles returned to "Heroes of the Dorm" this year <a href="http://www.redbull.com/us/en/esports/stories/1331786733160/uconn-fights-for-redemption-in-heroes-of-the-dorm">in search of redemption</a>. In 2015, the team was disqualified late in the bracket when Blizzard discovered one player had dropped out of college.</p><p>By sharing their journeys to the stage, the broadcasters build drama around the knockouts.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><h2>Reinventing the scoreboard</h2><p>Unfortunately, the human interest piece isn't enough to keep a viewer's attention. Ideally, they understand what's happening on screen in addition to appreciating the narratives.</p><p>This year, Blizzard reinvented the user interface designed for the broadcast so that it was friendlier to novice gamers. Bryan Cleveland, lead designer of the event's UI, explains that the display should reinforce what the broadcasters are explaining at all times.</p><p>If a broadcaster shouts "Valla is getting low on health!" a health bar floating above the hero's head corroborates that status by turning from green to red. The teams are also color-coded.</p><p><div></div></p><p>A zoomed out view of the battleground, called the mini-map, populates in the bottom corner of the UI. Players are represented by colored dots, and fortified structures appear as squares. When one team destroys the other's fort, it goes black on the mini-map. This simplified format makes it easy to keep track of players' standing, even when the camera strays elsewhere.</p><p>"Over the course of a couple games, maybe the viewer picks up on these things," Cleveland says. "You get both verbal and visual cues."</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><h2>Looking ahead</h2><p>The second annual Heroes of the Dorm tournament saw massive growth.</p><p>More than 110,000 viewers tuned into the ESPN2 broadcast (up 17% from last year), according to a spokesperson for ESPN. The network's viewing app, WatchESPN, increased unique viewers 18% and more than doubled the average number of viewers watching the program in any given minute.</p><p>While this improvement shows a step in the right direction, eSports has a ways to go before it finds mainstream success. One player from Arizona State tells me he had trouble getting permission to miss class for the tournament because his professor "didn't think it was real." Another members tells women he "works with computers" for fun.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Udall, however, has his sights set on a career in eSports.</p><p>He wants to play professionally and sees himself becoming financially self-sufficient in two to three years off his eSports earnings. Eventually, he'd like to transition into broadcasting, in a position like <span>Frazier.</span></p><p>In the meantime, it's about pursuing opportunities like Heroes of the Dorm to bring exposure to him and the sport.</p><p><span>"I played video games on ESPN," he says with a smile.
