Almost everyone in the corporate world think creativity is the domain of some ‘different’ people – less scientific, more artsy, long-haired and preferably wearing a diamond stud in the ear – a person who would rather write a poem about a flower (or paint it) than dissect it for its internal anatomy. There is something fuzzy and romantic about creativity. Something not open to analysis or the notion of learning, which makes it attractive. 
 
So let us try the difficult task – let us dissect the creative process to see if we can understand creativity and bring it into our work. 
 It looks like there are two component strengths to anybody who has ever been successfully labelled creative. <keyword id="89453" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Van-Gogh">Van Gogh</keyword>, <keyword id="159935" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Michelangelo">Michelangelo</keyword>, <keyword id="103034" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Gabriel-Garcia-Marquez">Gabriel Garcia Marquez</keyword>, Albert Einstein, Steve Jobs or Amir Khan – they all practise both <keyword id="1105" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="art">art</keyword> and a <keyword id="6376807" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Craft">craft</keyword> in their chosen areas and they perform it better than most. 
 
The art is in the muscle of the mind – an idea that sits at a unique intersection of novelty, timeliness and universality, and comes from the mind of the creative persona. How he gets it (how does the electrical machinery of the brain, all those neurons, conspire to trap that new combination) is considered a black art. The creative persons themselves sometimes don’t know how it happens. But they do know that they let themselves be open to its coming. They can train the muscle of the mind to focus and defocus, open the door for the mind to slip into something and then shut it to trap the idea. They say most often that the most creative moment is when they are not blinded by the thinking and the doing mind. 
 
So there is this act of sitting down, focusing on your subject and putting aside your body of knowledge of the subject and letting go of the thinking mind. Some people go to sleep and wake up with that new idea. Some walk away and come back with it. Some catch it in their bath. Whatever helps, helps! Catch it! Let the coconut of ours wallow in the innumerable connections that may or may not fire, but let it be alert for that something magical, something that shifts, something ‘aha’ – which we hold and scramble to express. 
 
And that’s where the craft steps in. The craft is more in the muscle of the body. The idea captures the form of an emotion and the emotion moves the body and then the body takes the specific actions needed to express the captured idea. 
 
For the writer, it may be the expression of that idea in a document written by hand or on the PC, early in the morning when the world is still slumbering. For the designer, it may be the creation of a schematic on a sheet of paper. For the scientist, it may be a scramble to jot down the notation for the idea. As they express, their styles step in. For every expression of the idea bears the hallmark of the personal style of a person. That is why poems on the same topic or paintings based on the same theme or products that do the same thing would all look different. They bear the bias and the expertise that is so personal to the creator – his years of knowledge, experience and muscle memory combined in a new and exciting way that is his own. 
 
The craft looks easier to pick up, but that can be deceiving. The craft needs tools and the craft needs practice with those tools. It requires countless hours of working to develop one’s own style – be it in writing, painting, designing, acting, experimenting or analysing data. It is a long walk to express something as intangible as an idea into something tangible for the world to know. The tools need mastery; the expression needs honing and the knowledge needs to be up to date. And then you need luck to make a success out of it. 
 
But hopefully, at the end, it is worth it all – the fusion of the art and the craft giving you the personal and exquisite joy of creating something new. A new push to the universe.

Time was when a first date, or even second and third, meant tentative glances over coffee or something stronger, holding hands maybe and promises to meet again soon, but COVID-19 has changed the rules of the game and it's now all online, and all about conversation. The prolonged lockdown could well have pushed the rewind button on the idea of romance, taking it back perhaps to what it was meant to be in a forgotten era of no net connectivity. "Actually I feel it's a good thing… because you spend more time chatting, then slowly move to phone calls and then, if it really clicks, to a video call," said 25-year-old Avantika Singh. "Prior to the lockdown, it was a day or two of chatting and perhaps meeting. Or at least the request for a meeting would come up. Now, there is no other option and it's good," the Delhi-based communications specialist told . The unprecedented lockdown situation, she said, has come with the opportunity to find love. <keyword id="28618" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="online-dating">Online dating</keyword> was in vogue before India shut down on March 25 and the fear of the spread of the disease kept everybody indoors. But the initial conversation was followed by incessant requests to meet, and this take-it-slow, one-conversation-at-a-time, approach to a relationship is great, she said. Many young Indians clearly agree with Singh. In early April, dating.com, an online dating website, released a list of top countries going online in search of love since the beginning of March, when the coronavirus pandemic made countries rush indoors. It found the US was the most active country for online dating. India was a close second followed by Ireland and the United Kingdom. There are no exact numbers. Over the last few years, the online space has been flooded with dating apps such as Tinder, OkCupid, Bumble and Hinge. Most dating websites have started noticing a shift in the way their users are interacting with each other during the lockdown period. OkCupid clocked over "50 million intro messages" across the world shared among first time users in the last month as people are looking for "human connection" more than ever before, said CEO Ariel Charytan. "With restaurants, bars, gyms, offices, and entertainment establishments around the world all temporarily closed, people are looking for human connection now more than ever before," Charytan told . The dating company reported a 26 per cent increase in conversation and a 12 per cent increase in matches in India since the lockdown began. The numbers also suggested that more people believed in developing an emotional connection before a physical one. "This form of virtual dating is ushering in a new era of 'slow dating' that's been welcomed by singles. An estimated 85 per cent of users on OkCupid believe it's important to develop an emotional connection before a physical one, so the switch to virtual dates has allowed these emotional connections to thrive," the New York-based Charytan told over email. Tinder has also reported "more conversations lasting longer than earlier" on its platform. And India has clocked in more conversations and also longer conversations than the global average. "Globally, more members are swiping right on someone new, having more conversations overall, and those conversations are lasting longer. Daily conversations have been up an average of 20 per cent around the world, and the average length of the conversations is 25 per cent longer. "In India, conversations have been up an average of 39 per cent and the average length of conversations is 28 per cent longer," a Tinder spokesperson said. Dating services have adapted to the scenario of "virtual dating" by introducing new features in their apps. While Hinge introduced the "Date from Home" feature, which was supported by 70 per cent of its users, OkCupid reported that 91 per cent of Indian users "will continue dating, albeit virtually". The virtual dates involve having dinner and drinks over video calls, watching a movie together, or playing an online game. A Delhi-based finance sector professional, who did not want to be named, is among the new users. She said she had never used a dating app before the lockdown was imposed across the country but installed one because she's been working from home since the pan India lockdown came into effect, and had nothing else interesting to do. The lockdown has been extended till at least May 3. "I usually don't meet people using dating apps. But this time I am planning to meet my match once this lockdown is over. That, too, only if our opinions on demographics, interests, and purpose of using the platform match," she said. Not everyone is lucky, of course. B Sundaresan, 28, who uses Tinder, OkCupid, Bumble and Hinge, to hopefully find a kindred spirit, said the aim is to find somebody to talk about shared interests. "My friend suggested that right now would be a better time to find matches as everyone is at home with not a lot to do. I was matched a few times, but that was mostly about it. The conversations led to nothing significant," said Sundaresan, the founder of a Delhi-based tech startup. Here's What Each State Googled More Than Any Other State This Year

<div class="image-container float_right" style="width:400px"><div class="image"></div>AP</div>One day after RNC Chair Reince Priebus called on <keyword id="66537" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Republicans">Republicans</keyword> to expand their outreach to minority voters, Sen. <keyword id="161182" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Rand-Paul">Rand Paul</keyword> put the committee's proposals into action with a speech to the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce that lays out a conservative case for comprehensive <keyword id="124780" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="immigration-reform">immigration reform</keyword>.
"Republicans need to become parents of a new future with <keyword id="268421" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Latino">Latino</keyword> voters or we will need to resign ourselves to permanent minority status," Paul said in the speech Tuesday morning. "Hispanics should be a natural and sizable part of the Republican base. That they have steadily drifted away from the <keyword id="107893" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="GOP">GOP</keyword> in each election says more about Republicans than it does about Hispanics. "
The speech calls on conservative Republicans to abandon their resistance to finding a pathway for citizenship, and offers a series of specific proposals for comprehensive reform.
"Immigration reform will not occur until conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation," Paul said. "Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants."
Like other Republican Senators, Paul proposes a long and difficult path to citizenship.
His proposals include: 
<ul>
<li>Border Security: Paul's plan Securing the border before providing illegal immigrants with a pathway to citizenship. Paul does not specify how the border would be secured, but states that the Border Patrol and Investigator General would have to sign off on it. <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> would have to vote annually for five years to agree that border security was adequately progressing.</li>
<li>Visas: In year two, Congress would begin extending "probationary work visas" to undocumented workers. The number of visas would be determined by a bipartisan panel, and the number of high-tech visas would be expanded and get priority. </li>
<li>Path To Citizenship: After obtaining a probationary work visas, immigrants would then have to hold a green card for five years before they could be granted citizenship. </li>
<li>E-Verify: Interestingly, Paul's plan would not implement an E-Verify system to crack down on employers of illegal immigrants, a proposal that he sees as an undue burden on business owners.</li>
</ul>
"<keyword id="141830" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Conservatives">Conservatives</keyword>, myself included, are wary of amnesty. My plan will not grant amnesty or move anyone to the front of the line," Paul will say. "But what we have now is de facto amnesty."
Although Paul has previously stated his support for comprehensive immigration reform, his speech Tuesday represents his most detailed remarks on the topic, and comes as the Kentucky Republican moves to capitalize on his national momentum in the wake of this month's filibuster.
The speech is also part of a concerted push by the Kentucky Republican to reach out to minority groups, putting into action the recommendations of the RNC's Growth and Opportunity Project. In April, Paul plans to meet with a group of black pastors in Louisville, Ky., to discuss education reform.
"Republicans have to do a better job of outreach," Paul's chief of staff Doug Stafford told Business Insider. "We have to show up for the discussion, bring our ideas, and listen. We have to show how our ideas, like job creation and school choice, are the path to a better future. We have to show we mean it too, not just with a speech a few weeks before an election."

I lived, worked, played and grew up alongside Latinos. As a teenager I worked alongside immigrants mowing lawns and putting in landscaping around businesses.
I remember once asking one of the immigrant workers how much he was being paid. “Cuanto le PAgan por el trabajo? ”
He responded “tres dolars.” I responded, “Yo tambien. Tres Dolars, por hora . . . ?”
He shook shook his head, “No tres Dolars, por dia!”
At a young age, I came to understand that it makes a difference whether you are a documented immigrant or an undocumented immigrant, that the existence was not easy for the undocumented but that opportunity in America somehow trumped even the poor living conditions and low pay.
I wondered what circumstances must have been like in his country to choose an admittedly tough life in the shadows.
Growing up in Texas I never met a Latino who wasn't working.
In school, everyone took Spanish. I sometimes wish I had paid more attention in class. As a teenager, I was not always the model citizen that I am today…
In my middle school Spanish class, my exuberance sometimes overcame my restraint and I would be asked to go to the principal's office. My Spanish teacher would scold me,
“En boca cerrada no entran moscas!”
Cuando no lo escuchaba, I would often be sent to the Principal's office.
In those days we had corporal punishment. After a few such trips to the principal's office, I discovered that my Spanish teacher was married to the Assistant Principal and they were getting a divorce.
So when I was sent to the principal's office, I would make the decision to go instead to the Assistant Principal's office. He and I would commiserate: Oh man she's crazy! You're right kid, just sit here today and go back tomorrow.
As a consequence, I never became as proficient with my Spanish as I would have liked because I spent a great deal of time in detention.
I read Miguel de Unamuno in college. I think he gives Republicans some good advice,
He wrote,

Republicans need to become parents of a new future with Latino voters or we will need to resign ourselves to permanent minority status.
The Republican Party has insisted for years that we stand for freedom and family values. I am most proud of my party when it stands for both.
The vast majority of Latino voters agree with us on these issues but Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration.
Immigration is a contentious issue in American <keyword id="6358883" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Politics">politics</keyword>. In our zeal for border control, we have sometimes obscured our respect and admiration for immigrants and their contribution to America.
Republicans have been losing both the respect and votes of a group of people who already identify with our belief in family, faith, and conservative values. Hispanics should be a natural and sizable part of the Republican base.
That they have steadily drifted away from the GOP in each election says more about Republicans than it does about Hispanics.
Whether we are discussing hard work, respect for life or the quest for freedom, immigrants bring with them the same values that previous generations of immigrants did.
Defense of the unborn and defense of traditional marriage are Republican issues that should resonate with Latinos but have been obscured by the misperception that Republicans are hostile to immigrants.
Somewhere along the line Republicans have failed to understand and articulate that immigrants are an asset to America, not a liability.
My German great-grandparents didn't speak much English when they came to America. They didn't have much, but they also didn't ask for much-all they wanted was an opportunity.
They began in America peddling vegetables. They finally got that opportunity when they started a dairy business in their garage, scraping together a living, raising a family, and constantly working to give their children a better life than they had.
My great-grandfather came to America in the 1880's. His father died after only six months in America. At 14, my great-grandfather was alone in America.
He survived and ultimately thrived in his new country with a new language. In their home and their church they spoke German.
Republicans who criticize the use of two languages make a great mistake.
 As the son of immigrants, my grandfather, who only had an 8th grade education, would live to see his own children all go to college. They became ministers, professors, doctors and accountants and one of them became a Congressman.
My family's story is like that of millions of others who came to this country. Every generation of immigrants wants these opportunities.
Many have faced intolerance and bigotry. It was not always easy to be German American in the face of two world wars started by Germans. Intolerance is not new, and it is not limited to one language or skin color.
But through our rich history, and for many millions of immigrants who came to America, such sacrifice and hardship was worth it. They wanted what all Americans want-better lives for themselves, their children and grandchildren.
For the American Dream to be achievable for all, we have to have an educational system that believes that all students have the capability to succeed.
Unfortunately, the education establishment seems to casually discard Latinos, blacks, and others into crummy schools with no hope.
I argue that the struggle for a good education is the civil rights issue of our day.
I love the story of Jaime Escalante.
In the area of East Los Angeles, in 1982, in an environment that values a quick fix over education and learning, Escalante was a new math teacher at Garfield High School determined to change the system and challenge the students to a higher level of achievement.
Escalante was at first not well liked by students, receiving numerous taunts and threats.
As the year progressed, he was able to win over the attention of the students by implementing innovative teaching techniques.
He transformed even the most troublesome teens into dedicated students. While Escalante was teaching basic arithmetic and algebra, he realized that his students have far more potential.
He decides to teach them calculus. To do so, he holds a summer course in pre-calculus.
Despite concerns and skepticism of other teachers, who feel that "you can't teach logarithms to illiterates," Escalante nonetheless develops a program in which his students can eventually take AP Calculus by their senior year.
Taking the AP Calculus exam in the spring of their senior year, his students are relieved and overjoyed to find that they have all passed, a feat done by few in the state.
My dream is that we transform the education monopoly into a thriving, competitive environment where Hispanic students get to choose what school they attend and that no student is forgotten or ignored.
America's strength has always been that we are a melting pot with room for those who dare to dream. I've seen firsthand what it is like for new immigrants in Texas.
I've never met a new immigrant looking for a free lunch.
The question is: How do we now reflect this in our 21st century immigration policy?
It is absolutely vital for both the success of our immigration policy and for the purposes of national security that we finally secure our borders.
Not to stop most immigrants from coming-we welcome them and in fact should seek to increase legal immigration.
The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.
Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.
Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.
Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.
If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you.
In order to bring conservatives to this cause however, those who work for reform must understand that a real solution must ensure that our borders are secure.
But we also must treat those who are already here with understanding and compassion-without also unduly rewarding them for coming illegally.
The first part of my plan - border security - must be certified by Border Patrol and an Investigator General and then voted on by Congress to ensure it has been accomplished.
This is what I call, Trust but Verify.
With this in place, I believe conservatives will accept what needs to come next, an issue that must be addressed: what becomes of the 12 million undocumented workers in the United States?
My plan is very simple and will include work visas for those who are here, who are willing to come forward and work.
A bipartisan panel would determine number of visas per year. High tech visas would also be expanded and have a priority. Specials entrepreneurial visas would also be issued.
Fairness is key in any meaningful immigration reform, but this fairness would cut both ways:
The modernization of our visa system and border security would allow us to accurately track traffic.
It would also enable us to let more people in and allow us to admit we are not going to deport the millions of people who are currently here illegally.
This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.
Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.
Conservatives, myself included, are wary of amnesty. My plan will not grant amnesty or move anyone to the front of the line.
But what we have now is de facto amnesty.
The solution doesn't have to be amnesty or deportation-a middle ground might be called probation where those who came illegally become legal through a probationary period, and then enter another 5 year period of holding a full green card.
My plan will not impose a national ID card or mandatory E-Verify, forcing businesses to become policemen.
We should not be unfair to those who came to our country legally. Nor should we force business owners to become immigration inspectors-making them do the job the federal government has failed to do.
After an Inspector General have verified that the border is secure after year one, the report that must come back and be approved by Congress.
In year two, we could begin expanding probationary work visas to immigrants who are willing to work. I would have Congress vote each year for five years whether to approve or not approve a report on whether or not we are securing the border.
 We should be proud that so many want to come to America, that it is still seen as the land of opportunity.
Let's make it a land of legal work, not black market jobs. Let's make it a land of work not welfare. Our land should be one of assimilation, not hiding in the shadows.
On immigration, common sense and decency have been neglected for far too long. Let's secure our borders, welcome our new neighbors, and practice the values of freedom and family for all to see.
Some say to generalize about any ethnic group is be a racist. There is a hilarious Seinfeld episode where Jerry admits that he loves Asian women but he frets and worries, “Is it racist to like a certain race?”
So it is with trepidation that I express my admiration for the romance of the latin culture. I am a fan of Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
In Love in the Time of Cholera, Marquez gives some advice that Republicans might consider,
“. . . human beings are not born once and for all on the day their mothers give birth to them, . . . life obliges them over and over again to give birth to themselves.”
Likewise, Republicans need to give birth to a new attitude toward immigrants, an attitude that sees immigrants as assets not liabilities.
No one captures the romance of the Latin culture more than Pablo Neruda.
I love how Neruda in “Si tu me Olvidas” issues a passionate threat to his lover but ends by saying,
"Pero si cada día, cada hora, sientes que a mí estás destinada con dulzura implacable, si cada día sube una flor a tus labios a buscarme, ay amor mío, ay mía, en mí todo ese fuego se repite, en mí nada se apaga ni se olvida"
How can we not embrace such passion. How can we not want that culture to merge with and infuse the American spirit. They are not called the romance languages for no reason.
As we move forward on immigration reform, I for one will work to find a solution that both adheres to the rule of law and makes room for compassion.
My hope is that today we begin a dialogue between the GOP and Latinos.
A dialogue that shows that the GOP sees all immigrants as assets and that Latinos can come to see the GOP as the party of opportunity, the party of the American Dream, -- El partido del sueno Americano
