The camaraderie between the two leaders, who met previously at the G20 Summit in Delhi last year and then at the COP28 in Dubai, has spawned several online memes. "The two sides discussed bilateral defence and security cooperation and hoped for further enhancing the defence industrial collaboration. They welcomed the forthcoming visit of the Italian aircraft carrier ITS Cavour and training ship ITS Vespucci to India later this year," the Ministry of External Affairs said in an official release. Moreover, PM Modi also thanked the Italian Government for recognising the Indian Army's contribution to the Italian Campaign during World War II and informed that "India will be upgrading the Yashwant Ghadge Memorial at Montone in Italy." PM Modi and his Italian counterpart noted with satisfaction the regular higher political dialogue and reviewed the progress of the India-Italy Strategic Partnership. Meloni also congratulated PM Modi for his third consecutive term as Prime Minister. During the meeting, the two leaders welcomed the signing of the Letter of Intent for Cooperation in Energy Transition, which will boost bilateral cooperation in clean and green energy. It was taken note of under the 'Global Biofuels Alliance'. "They expressed happiness at the new Executive Programme of Cooperation for 2025-27 to promote joint research and development in Science and Technology," the MEA said. Sharing details regarding her meeting with Meloni, PM Modi stated, "Had a very good meeting with PM @GiorgiaMeloni. Thanked her for inviting India to be a part of the G7 Summit and for the wonderful arrangements. We discussed ways to further cement India-Italy relations in areas like commerce, energy, defence, telecom and more. As PM Modi touched down at Brindisi Airport in Apulia on late Thursday night (local time), he was received by India's Ambassador to Italy, VRao, and other officials. This marks PM Modi's first trip abroad after assuming office for the third consecutive term. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi, in his departure statement, said that he is glad that his first state visit in the third consecutive term is to Italy for the G7 Summit. "Have just got the good news that due to the hard work of our teams and your cooperation, a consensus has been reached on New Delhi G20 Leaders Summit Declaration," Modi told the leaders while addressing the second session of the Summit at the Bharat Mandapam here. "It is my proposal that this G20 Declaration be adopted," the prime minister said. After the approval of the members, Modi said, "I announce the adoption of this Declaration". "On this occasion I would like to thank our ministers, sherpas and all officials who made this possible with their hard work," he said. With consensus eluding on the paragraph relating to the Ukraine conflict, India had on Friday circulated a draft Summit Declaration among the member countries without the paragraph on the geopolitical issue in an attempt to hammer out a positive outcome, according to diplomatic sources. "The New Delhi Leaders Declaration has been officially adopted at the G20 India Leaders' Summit! Today's era must be marked as the golden age of human-centric globalisation and India's G20 Presidency under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi has worked tirelessly towards this goal," India's G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant said on X. "Historical and Path breaking G20 Declaration with 100% consensus on all developmental and geo-political issues. The new geopolitical paras are a powerful call for Planet, People, Peace and Prosperity in today's world. Demonstrates PM Narendra Modi leadership in today's world," he said.

G20 Leaders Summit adopts New Delhi Declaration

As per sources, "<keyword id="165221" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="g20-nations" source="Orion">G20 nations</keyword> agree on global framework for regulation of crypto asset. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Financial Stability Board (FSB) have laid down synthesis paper and a comprehensive framework has been developed and further discussion will take place during leaders' summit." "Indian G20 Presidency recommended to have common framework for resolution of debt vulnerability where it also addressed debt vulnerability of countries like Zambia, Ghana and Ethiopia along with support for Sri Lanka from outside the framework," the sources added. As per sources, several working groups have made recommendations on <keyword id="980749" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="multilateral-development-banks" source="Orion">Multilateral Development Banks</keyword> (MDBs). "Working groups have made recommendations to address future financing challenges and MDBs are also keen to implement stated recommendations. There has been a consensus to have USD 200 billion fund to meet financing need during course of next 10 years," the sources said. Highlighting further, the sources stated that G20 nations have assessed high volatility in food and energy security. "G20 under India's presidency has emphasised on greater cooperation stability in food and energy security which is essential for sustainable growth and it will be discussed during leaders' summit scheduled to be held later this week in the national capital," sources mentioned. On international taxation, the sources state that India under the G20 Presidency has recommended a pillar taxation system on international taxation and "significant progress" has been made so far with regard to that aspect. India is all set to host the <keyword id="42982" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="g20-summit" source="Orion">G20 Summit</keyword> scheduled to be held in New Delhi from September 9-10. Notably, India assumed the G20 presidency on December 1 last year and about 200 meetings related to G20 were organized in 60 cities across the country. The 18th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit in New Delhi will be a culmination of all the G20 processes and meetings held throughout the year among ministers, senior officials, and civil societies. A G20 Leaders' Declaration will be adopted at the conclusion of the <keyword id="1497802" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="new-delhi-summit" source="Orion">New Delhi Summit</keyword>, stating Leaders' commitment towards the priorities discussed and agreed upon during the respective ministerial and working group meetings.
