This is rather odd as several tech entrepreneurs dream of getting their startups listed in American stock exchange Nasdaq. It’s not just a matter of pride, but also a strategic move. There are majorly two reasons for Indian tech startups to explore a Nasdaq listing — retail investors have better understanding of tech business in the US and/or majority of their revenue is coming from that market. Besides this, international listing gives Indian companies a larger and more diverse pool of capital. Whether it's the already listed Freshworks or soon-to-be-listed Icertis, <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/startups/inmobi-prepares-for-nasdaq-listing-to-seek-15-billion-valuation/articleshow/81789159.cms">InMobi </a>or <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/pine-labs-reportedly-joins-the-long-list-of-indian-tech-startups-heading/articleshow/81760763.cms">PineLabs</a> — one of these three factors are the driving force of listing abroad. So it is quite amusing why RateGain would choose to get itself listed in India and that too in 2021 — potentially the worst time for any travel tech business due to the ongoing pandemic. Bhanu Chopra, the chairperson and managing director of RateGain told Business Insider that there were three reasons why the company decided not to go for a Nasdaq listing. First, the ability to drive up brand value being a local company is much higher. Second, they wanted to be the torchbearer of the first product SaaS company to list in India. Third, there were several logistical issues that couldn’t have been solved without making some organisational changes and it was quite cumbersome. Therefore, the company decided to stick to its home market and be the first SaaS company to list in India. Rate Gain has over 1,434 customers — across the hotel, hospitality and online travel agency (OTA) segment — spread across 110 countries. In order to serve the customers in these locations, RateGain has set up its subsidiaries in the United Kingdom, United States and Spain. The company decided to take a pause and arm itself with better products to meet the pent-up demand that may come back soon as people indulge in revenge travel and COVID-related restrictions are lifted. The company counts Lemon Tree, OYO and several other hotels and online travel aggregators (OTAs) as its clients. Besides this, the company believes that Indian investors are now ready to invest in tech businesses. Chopra believes that the investors' interest in Indian startups have increased in both private as well as public markets. This can be seen in terms of the number of unicorns -- private firms valued at or more than $1 billion -- that are being created as well as the number of companies hitting the public market. “My sense is that the Indian investor is now ready and they understand the future of any industry is digitisation. Now, RateGain is leading that effort in digitisation of the travel and hospitality industry” Chopra added. not-so-big listing for Vijaya Organics IPO. “The company has fixed the IPO price at [a] price to earning [sic] of 35.5 times of FY2021 earning, we believe that all the short-term positives have been Analysts at Ventura Securities expects the company’s revenue to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16.7% to ₹600 crore by FY24 driven by its deepening footprints in core markets of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, opening additional diagnostic centres and expanding adjacent geographies. Analysts at Kotak Securities highlight the firm’s long track record of delivering consistent profitable growth, with strong cash generation and return metrics. Vijaya Diagnostic IPO ⁠— analysts say ‘subscribe’ but the grey market premium isn’t exciting

According to a business intelligence firm Tracxn, Indian startups have raised $23 billion in 2021 till September 1. This is significantly higher than $13 billion raised by the ecosystem in 2020. The massive interest of the investors has increased India’s unicorn tally to 56. The new estimates show that 150 startups will be valued at over a billion dollars in the next four years, by 2025. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi makes his points on China, Afghanistan and Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly

A New York court has paused <keyword id="64469" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="cairn" source="Orion">Cairn</keyword> Energy's pursuit of US assets of Air <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> for the recovery of USD 1.2 billion arbitral award, so as to allow the British firm to reach a settlement with the Indian government on the long drawn dispute. The New York district court delayed the tax suit to November 18, according to court documents reviewed by PTI. This follows Cairn Energy and Air India jointly asking the court to stay further proceedings in view of the fresh government enacting a fresh law to scrap retrospective taxation in the country. The new law will result in withdrawal of the Rs 10,247 crore tax demand that the government had sought from Cairn. Sources with direct knowledge of the matter said the finance ministry is framing rules that will lead to withdrawal of the retrospective tax demand on Cairn and 16 other companies, including Vodafone Group of UK. These rules require the companies to withdraw all litigations against the government in return for being refunded any money that was collected to force the retrospective tax demand. A format for the undertaking that the companies will have to furnish committing to withdraw litigations is under finalisation and should be released in coming days, they said. Companies will have to use that format to give an undertaking, post which the money will be refunded. In all the government has to return about Rs 8,100 crore, of which Rs 7,900 crore is due only to Cairn. The British company had won an international arbitration award against levy of such taxes and sought to take over Air India assets when the government refused to honour the award and refund USD 1.2 billion-plus interest and penalty. Cairn has indicated that the refund, without interest and penalty, was acceptable to it opening an avenue to settle the seven-year-old dispute. Cairn and Air India in a joint request to US District Judge <keyword id="2595048" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="paul-gardephe" source="Orion">Paul Gardephe</keyword> on September 13 stated that a stay on proceedings would give them "additional time to evaluate the effects and implications" of legislation that repealed the retroactive tax. In return for the Rs 7,900 crore, Cairn would drop lawsuits threatening court-ordered seizures of Indian government property abroad. One of those suits was filed in May against state-owned Air India Ltd, which Cairn has said should be considered the alter ego of the Indian government. "The implementing regulations are in the rulemaking process and will take some time," the two had said in the petition seeking extension of the October 21 deadline for the presentation of case papers and initial pretrial conference on October 28. They had requested the court to "stay any further proceedings in this matter through October 31, 2021, and reschedule the initial pretrial conference and, respectively, the deadline for the parties to submit their Joint Pretrial Letter and Proposed Case Management Plan, for new dates in November 2021." "The Parties have conferred and agreed that the stay will facilitate the efficient resolution of the dispute, conserve the Court's and Parties' resources, and is not intended to obstruct or delay," they added. Cairn had on May 14 brought a lawsuit in the New York district court to hold Air India liable as the alter ego of the Republic of India for the obligations the government owes under a foreign arbitral award. The firm separately filed a petition before the District Court for the District of Columbia to recognise and enforce the arbitration award against India on February 12, 2021. Seeking to repair India's damaged reputation as an investment destination, the government last month enacted new legislation to drop Rs 1.1 lakh crore in outstanding claims against multinationals such as telecom group Vodafone, pharmaceuticals company Sanofi and brewer SABMiller, now owned by AB InBev, and Cairn. About Rs 8,100 crore collected from companies under the scrapped tax provision are to be refunded if the firms agreed to drop outstanding litigation, including claims for interest and penalties. An international arbitration tribunal in December overturned the levy of Rs 10,247 crore in taxes on a 2006 reorganisation of Cairn's India business prior to its listing. It also asked the Indian government to return the value of shares seized and sold, dividend confiscated and tax refund withheld. This totalled USD 1.2 billion-plus interest and penalty. The government initially refused to honour the award, forcing Cairn to identify USD 70 billion of Indian assets from the US to Singapore to enforce the ruling, including taking flag carrier Air India Ltd to a US court in May. A French court in July paved the way for Cairn to seize real estate belonging to the Indian government in Paris. <ul><li>In 2021, <keyword id="8990323" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-VCs">Indian VCs</keyword> (venture capitalists) believe that the investment deal flow will continue as global funds too jump in for a pie of the Indian startup ecosystem.</li><li>Indian investors say they will continue to bet on sectors like e-commerce, edtech, fintech and SaaS, while there’s room for sectors like SpaceTech and Agritech to grow.</li><li>The year ahead could see consolidation in India’s tech ecosystem as well. Investors believe more mergers and acquisitions are on the cards in 2021.</li></ul>India’s tech ecosystem is riding into the new year with a lot of enthusiasm. There are multiple <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/2021-could-finally-be-the-year-of-indias-tech-ipos-as-startups-like-zomato-delhivery-policybazaar-head-for-the-public-markets/slidelist/80019978.cms">startup IPOs</a> on the cards, investments are flowing in, and the spirit of recovering in a post-pandemic era is high. In 2020, despite the coronavirus pandemic PE-VC (private equity and venture capital) deals hit $39 billion across 814 deals led by the onslaught of deals by Mukesh Ambani’s Jio Platforms and Reliance Retail. And in 2021, Indian VCs (venture capitalists) believe that the investment deal flow will continue as global funds are eyeing a slice of the Indian startup ecosystem. “2021 will be a watershed year for the tech economy in India. While foreign investors have been extremely bullish about it, domestic investors and even large corporates have been largely bystanders past 10 years waiting for the change to reach a certain critical mass. They will now jump in or be left out of the handsome gains that will be accrued in the next 10 years, by participating in the tech economy,” said Anup Jain, Managing Partner at Orios Venture Partners. Edtech will continue to shine 2020 was the year of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/india-edtech-in-charts-how-the-shift-to-online-learning-meant-money-valuation-and-users-for-the-likes-of-byjus-unacademy-and-others/articleshow/80040270.cms">edtech</a> in India. With schools and colleges shut due to the COVID-19 pandemic, India’s educational technology <keyword id="6362513" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="startups">startups</keyword> stood at the forefront of online transition of schools. In 2020, edtech startups raised a total of $2.2 billion, and VCs believe that the money will continue flowing into the sector. Fintech is the next big bet As the internet penetrates India's hinterlands, the adoption of digital payments, financial tech instruments will increase across the country. And VCs believe that fintech cos will drive the growth. "If 2020, the year of the pandemic, was all about edtech and health tech, 2021 will be the year of Fintech in India. Consumers and businesses alike have made substantial changes to the way they lead their lives and businesses and set new goals and practices for saving, investing and spending," said Jain. Jain lists that financial services or neo-banking ecosystem, wealth creation and management will reign big in fintech along with "the use of tech by consumers, just like in e-commerce, will be reflected in discovery and purchase of financial products and services." E-commerce boom to linger With the coronavirus pandemic, offline retail was hit in a big way, which also led to India's e-commerce firms' boom along with grocery retail, which saw their numbers multiply. From Amazon and Flipkart seeing the number of sellers grow on their platform to JioMart, BigBasket, Grofers, saw their average order volumes and app downloads grow during the pandemic. This e-commerce boom will continue to linger in the new year, believe VCs. The durable shift to online has gone well beyond just the top 50 million users, and all incumbents brands have embraced it and are providing a good experience. The sector will keep expanding, and new retail (formats+omnichannel), Social commerce, warehousing, etc should see innovation," said Deepak Gupta, Founding Partner, WEH Ventures. Within e-commerce, Direct to Consumer or DTC brands that sell directly from their websites saw massive growth in 2020. And that has seen investor appetite also grow, with brands like boAt raising over $100 million in funding already in 2021. SaaS to ride on the benefit of digitization One of India’s best performing bets has been in the SaaS (Software as a Service) sector with unicorns like Freshworks, Zoho, Druva, Zenoti, Icertis. And experts believe that the offerings in SaaS are far from over. “We expect adoption of SaaS (software-as-a-service) products to become more widespread as people realized the benefits of digitization during the COVID 19 pandemic. Cyber Security companies would have tailwinds as data leaks / data thefts have made sure people take this aspect into cognizance,” said Jatin Desai, Managing Partner at Inflexor Ventures. Space, agri and electric vehicle infra are among other sectors to watch out for Here are the other sectors that VCs are betting on <ul><li>SpaceTech</li><li>AgriTech</li><li>InsurTech</li><li>Electric Vehicles Infrastructure</li></ul>Pankaj Makkar, MD of Bertelsmann India Investments, sums it up that sectors like e-commerce, e-commerce logistics, direct-to-consumer, Edtech, HealthTech, and some portions of FinTech will do well in the new year. But he also sees consolidation in India’s tech ecosystem. “We will also see Mergers and Acquisitions happening as competitors may join hands because there is less space to grow,” he said. ‘2021 will be a watershed moment for India’s tech ecosystem’ — here are the startup sectors that VCs are betting on

<ul><li>LinkedIn ranked companies that are chased by Indians to work with and stay for longer once onboard — and Flipkart tops the list. </li><li>The report assessed members on four parameters — interest in the company, engagement with the company’s employees, job demand and employee retention. </li><li>Internet companies including Amazon, Zomato, Ola and Alphabet have been dominating the top spots.</li></ul>Technology and Internet companies continue to dominate the top places to work in India, according to the latest annual Linkedin survey ranking Indian companies. While e-commerce giant Flipkart jumped to the first position from second last year, several other homegrown giants — Zomato, Swiggy and Freshworks — featured prominently among the top 25 companies preferred by Indian professionals.. Given that more millennials and even GenZ are now joining the workforce, Indian companies appear to be paying increasing attention to work culture in addition to offering better wages and exposure to the most sought-after skills. The report analysed over 610 million LinkedIn members, gauging job seekers’ interest in the company, employee engagement, job demands, and employee retention. Here are the top 25 companies <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/top-companies-2019-where-india-wants-work-now-editors-india-/?published=t">ranked</a> by the company. 1. Flipkart (Walmart) Walmart-owned e-commerce company Flipkart gave rise to many millionaires after its acquisition. The e-commerce giant, which has a headcount of over 13,000 employees in India, has been ranked first by job seekers. In fact, according to a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/in-india-flipkart-tops-the-fairness-quotient-for-gig-economy-workers-report/articleshow/68593359.cms">recent report on gig economy platforms</a>, in terms of working conditions, Flipkart topped the charts. 2. Amazon Even as the new e-commerce norms come into effect in India, global retail giant Amazon, has still been on a hiring spree in India with nearly 1,950 job postings, as on April 2. Presently, the company has 50,000 employees in India. It competes neck and neck with rival Flipkart, and has recently made a foray into offline segment as well, setting up <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/amazon-plans-to-open-over-100-kiosks-across-malls-in-india-report/articleshow/68579967.cms">kiosks in malls</a>. 3. OYO Hotel chain Oyo has been diversifying beyond its flagship hospitality business. Its latest acquisition of Innov8 mark its entry into the food market and co-working space. The company is also in talks to acquire FreshMenu. As a long term goal, the hotel chain is aiming to overtake Marriott, five years down the line. It has 7,000 employees in India, according to LinkedIn. 4. One97 Communications (Paytm) One97 Communications, the parent company of Paytm, ranks fourth on the list. It boasts of flexible and informal work culture, and has apparently removed restrictions on blocking calendars, encouraging impromptu meetings. 5. Uber With a more sustainable approach, Uber aims to put 1 million green cars on Indian roads by 2022.The ride-hailing firm Uber has a headcount of 1,700 employees. The company is reportedly planning to double the new hires in the products and engineering domain. 6. Swiggy Food aggregator Swiggy, a recent entrant to India’s unicorn club, has been hiring in the areas of sales, operations and business development. The company, which has 6,000 people onboard in India presently, is also reportedly planning to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/swiggy-in-talks-to-acquire-ubereats-india-operations/articleshow/68110377.cms">diversify</a>. 7. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) India’s largest IT services company, TCS, has grown four-fold since 2007. The company has been increasingly hiring fresh graduates via <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/wipro-campus-placements-to-double/articleshow/67719782.cms">campus placements</a>, and added nearly 27,000 employees last year. 8. Zomato The food-tech unicorn, which claims to cater nearly 21 million monthly orders, is also a top employer. Its hiring has focused primarily on skills including AutoCAD, employee engagement and web content writing. 9. Alphabet (Google) Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has gravitated back to elite campus hires after two consecutive non-hiring years. The company is reportedly actively looking for engineering, machine learning, algorithms and media &amp; communication candidates. 10. Reliance Industries With Jio sweeping the Internet market and disrupting the telecom space in India, Reliance Industries has claimed the 10th position. Among its employee perks is a 24*7 assistance to an employee’s family in case of emergencies like road accidents and fire. 11. EY The company has a strength of 42,000 in India. Focussing on digital transformation, the company plans to hire 2,000 new professionals across AI, blockchain and analytics domain. 12. Adobe To keep its employees happy, the company lets its employees set aside 25% of their earned salary for stock purchase at discounted rates twice in a year. 13. <keyword id="136162" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Boston-Consulting-Group">Boston Consulting Group</keyword> (BCG) With more people interested in offshore placements, this comes as a benefit to its employees, the company offers over 25% to work outside their native country at least once a year. Recently, the company hired fresh <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/accenture-bcg-dominate-campus-placements-at-business-schools-in-india/articleshow/68045145.cms">MBA graduates</a> from India’s elite colleges — including IIMs. 14. YES Bank As it plans to expand its footprint in India over the next two years, the company is aggressively looking to hire PDS beneficiaries, along with automating the loan approvals to ease the process. 15. IBM The company has a headcount of over 100,000 in India with maximum hires taking place in the engineering, Information Technology and Consulting domain. The company is also considering cascading style sheets (CSS), HTML, jQuery skills. 16. Daimler AG Breaking the monotony, the automotive company plans to come up with 52 new products in 2019. The fastest-growing skills in the company are MySQL, Javascript and Python. 17. Freshworks Here’s a company that has an eye for alternate talent at work. The company, for instance, is open for engineering hires who are social or full time musicians. Most of the new hires in the company have been from sales, engineering and product management. 18. Accenture Accenture has been one of the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/accenture-bcg-dominate-campus-placements-at-business-schools-in-india/articleshow/68045145.cms">top employers</a> in the engineering domain. To retain talent, the company allows sabbaticals providing them with the opportunity for higher education. Ola The cab aggregator is focussing on bringing green cars to the Indian market. Most of the new hires in the company are for engineering, operations and business development skills. However, being a cab service provider, the company has seen demand for skills including automotive design. 20. ICICI Bank Breaking the stereotypes, India’s second largest private bank looks to cut hierarchy system to boost accountability and efficiency in the bank. Digital marketing and engineering have emerged as top skills. 21. PwC India Management consulting firm, PwC India, the company welcomes employees from not just accounts and taxation background but diverse fields such as journalists, environmentalists and design thinkers among others. 22. KPMG India One of the largest accounting firms in India, KPMG has been offering overseas assignments to nearly 3,000 employees across 100 countries in order to keep the attrition rate minimum. Accounting and consulting have been the most in-demand skills for the company while looking to hire new talent. 23. Larsen &amp; Toubro Keeping the right gender balance, the engineering conglomerate claims to have male female remuneration ratio at 1:1. The construction company has also been hiring skills such as Python coding and financial services. 24. Oracle India is Oracle’s sixth largest market in data management space. The company is looking to hire IT and engineering skills, as it plans to open its first data centre in India. 25. Qualcomm As the company eyes Indian markets, it will create 10,000 jobs in the country by establishing its largest facility outside the US, according to the <keyword id="4894774" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="linkedin-report">LinkedIn report</keyword>.

Yang is preaching a tech-savvy and industry-active brand of regulation - "you can't take a sledgehammer to these problems," he says - that plays well with the Valley's we-know-best mentality. He even suggested "knighting" the techies at the event, so that they could make the government operate more efficiently.That's earned him trust, and money, from a lot of the tech industry elite.
