It's not just plastic either, since even paper or cardboard can contain substances like ink that can be problematic when it comes into contact with food.<h2 id="27fa7f62-8a96-4c1c-a5a6-1d66b9506469">Trying to understand the health risks</h2>Scientists are digging for clues to understand the impact of these chemicals on long-term health.Some of these chemicals are known to be dangerous, including <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-causes-cancer-food-products-that-increase-your-cancer-risk-2018-3">carcinogens (cancer-causing) substances</a> and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-avoid-toxic-chemical-phthalates-in-food-makeup-toiletries-2021-10">toxins</a> linked to hormone and reproductive problems.One such category is called PFAs (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), known as "<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chart-how-long-hazardous-forever-chemicals-pfas-stay-in-blood-2023-3">forever chemicals</a>" because they linger and accumulate in our bodies and in the water and soil. PFAs exposure is linked to some cancers, liver damage, and more, as well as possible developmental defects in children.Other hazardous chemicals the study found in food and our bodies include <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/health/diet-nutrition/what-is-bpa">BPA</a> (a toxic ingredient in packaging linked to hormone problems) and heavy metals that can cause harm to our DNA.And there's a lot we don't know about many of the other chemicals found in human samples, including whether they might be harmful or what, if any, amount is safe.The actual number of chemicals we're exposed to through food and drinks could also be much higher than the 3,601 estimated in the study, according to the researchers.<h2 id="5746f6cb-2471-495d-9d89-a8d0cff3dc10">Putting limits on chemical exposure</h2>This same team of researchers previously published a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28893723/">study</a> that found government regulations aren't doing much to prevent chemical exposure.While there are some existing rules — such as <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/epa-hazardous-forever-chemicals-drinking-water-limits-2024-4">limits on PFAs in drinking water</a> — legislation is slow to keep up with the latest science, and sometimes too vague to enforce. Plus, there's so much we don't know about potential risks of chemicals that haven't been studied as closely.The new study is one crucial step in understanding how chemicals in our environment (and in our food) could affect our health long-term, and how we might be able to reduce the risks in the future."This work highlights the fact that food contact materials are not fully safe, even though they may comply with regulations, because they transfer known hazardous chemicals into people," Jane Muncke, senior author of the study, environmental toxicology expert, and managing director at the Food Packaging Forum, said in a press release."We would like this new evidence base to be used for improving the safety of food contact materials — both in terms of regulations but also in the development of safer alternatives," Muncke said.

The company has more than 8,500 employees at 26 airports around the US and has contracts with airlines to provide passenger services, baggage handlers, and gate agents."The ordinance took effect in April, and we're in August now, still fighting for our basic human rights to a break and water," Ortiz said.She and other airport contract workers tried to deliver a copy of the Phoenix ordinance to their supervisor on Tuesday, but he wouldn't leave his office, Ortiz said. Andhra Pradesh has witnessed major devastation with heavy rainfall for the past three days recorded at 29 cm to 34 cm on a single resembling like cloud burst hitting normal life. Traffic flow on national highways came to a halt with overflowing of flood water and large number of train services were cancelled. As a result of Budameru floods several areas including Singhnagar, Nandamuri Nagar and other low lying areas were submerged within hours forcing nearly two lakh people to take shelter on the terraces of their buildings. The Chief Minister directed the officials to supply food and water to flood victims at first. With the personal intervention of the Chief Minister, officials swung into action and made arrangements to distribute food packets till late last night by venturing into flood affected regions through boats. Chief Minister Naidu also contacted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and apprised them of the present flood crisis and requested them to treat this flood devastation as natural calamity. As per the request of the CM, the central government responded immediately and started deploying 10 NDRF teams, 40 power boats and six helicopters to rescue people from flood affected regions. In a post on social media platform X the CM said "I visited the flood affected areas in Vijayawada on the second day. I have personally supervised the assistance provided to the affected people. I assured them. The power boats sent by the Center and the arrangements made by the state government have increased the speed of relief operations. Public safety is our responsibility. All efforts are being made to bring people out of this unexpected calamity as soon as possible. I wish the affected people to be brave". He repeatedly appealed to people that the state government will come to their rescue. Pained by the plight of people, Chandrababu Naidu appealed to officials to coordinate with people by adopting humanitarian approach to increase confidence levels of people at the hour of crisis.

Vijayawada floods: NDRF and Central forces provides food, water to affected areas using helicopters

The agreement was signed in the presence of <keyword id="11579676" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="shri-arun-singhal">Shri Arun Singhal</keyword>, CEO, FSSAI, and Professor Bejon Misra, Adviser, Public Affairs, ASCI, on July 1st. As per the agreement, ASCI will identify advertisements which prima facie violate provisions of Food Safety And Standards (Advertising And Claims) Regulations, 2018, and FSSAI would further investigate these. Under the agreement, ASCI will set up a three-member expert panel to evaluate F&amp;B advertising identified by the ASCI monitoring team. There has been a marked increase in the number of complaints against F&amp;B ads during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the last financial year (FY) ASCI has processed a total number of 285 complaints compared to 175 in FY 2019-20. So, claims by F&amp;B brands, particularly those related to health and nutrition, are under greater scrutiny. Food and health continue to be important focus areas for ASCI. With this association, ASCI further strengthens its 360-degree approach of protecting consumers as well as guiding brands, agencies, and influencers towards greater responsibility. Manisha Kapoor, Secretary-General, ASCI, said: “With this agreement, ASCI will intensify its scrutiny of the F&amp;B sector. We will tap our National Advertising Monitoring Service, which monitors over 900 TV channels and publications, and over 3,000 websites. Besides national brands, we will examine regional and local ones. The lawsuit claims the candy is "unfit for human consumption" because it includes titanium dioxide, a chemical used as a coloring agent. The plaintiff, Jenile Thames, said he would not have purchased the Skittles if he knew they contained titanium dioxide, according to the lawsuit. The complaint also alleges that titanium dioxide isn't necessary to produce brightly-colored candy, since comparable products like Swedish Fish, Sour Patch Kids, and Black Forest Gummy Bears don't include the chemical. Mars, Inc. did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment. Seoul, South Korea has signed deals with Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson's Janssen to purchase Covid-19 vaccines, with the goal of starting vaccinations in the second quarter of 2021, <keyword id="385499" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="health-authorities">health authorities</keyword> said on Thursday. According to <keyword id="10053518" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-korea-disease-control-and-prevention-agency">the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency</keyword> (KDCA), the government will buy vaccines for 10 million people from Pfizer and six million from Janssen, which was up from its initial plan for four million people, Yonhap news agency reported. It formally struck a purchase deal with AstraZeneca in late November and made an advance payment of $77.6 million in October to <keyword id="3169687" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-World-Health-Organization">the World Health Organization</keyword>'s global vaccine project, known as <keyword id="9549281" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="covax">COVAX</keyword>. The government plans to sign contracts next month with Moderna and COVAX to secure vaccines for 10 million people from each, the KDCA said. The government has set a goal of securing vaccines for 44 million people, enough to cover 88% of the nation's population, but the purchase deals are expected to cover 46 million with increased supplies from Janssen.
