<ul><li>From inventory to delivery, the home chef business is fraught with many issues and uncertainties. </li><li>Finding a reliable delivery vendor requires a lot of patience and multiple attempts before honing in on one.</li><li>No longer is it just the biriyani or butter chicken, the sheer variety available often puts the best restaurants to shame.</li></ul> Not so long ago, the only reason people ordered food was to take a break from boring old 'ghar ka khana' (homemade food). However, the pandemic brought with it a rekindling of love for the same items most of us wanted to get away from. That said, the past year has also seen an evolution of sorts of the kind of cuisines home chefs have embraced and have to offer. No longer is it just the biriyani or butter chicken, the sheer variety available often puts the best restaurants to shame. From homemade shepherd's pie to pork belly with tingmo to creatively decorated blueberry-vanilla in American buttercream cake, the offerings are beautifully varied. The business models are diverse — from <keyword id="2067878" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Home-cooks">home cooks</keyword> sharing their daily menus on their residential colony WhatsApp groups to operating entirely out of social media channels like Facebook and Instagram. Then there are those who are happy to get rid of the added burden of marketing, delivery etc., all together and prefer to outsource it to companies like <keyword id="8248012" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Homefoodi">Homefoodi</keyword> or <keyword id="10926000" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Conosh">Conosh</keyword>. "For me, the moment you put numbers into something you love, it takes the fun out of it. I am lucky enough to be able to concentrate on the fun part of cooking while my husband helps to bring some method to this madness by taking care of everything else, for now. But given how painful the business and backend side of it can be, I would definitely be more than happy to outsource that part of the operations," says Tarannum Sehgal, whose full-time role is in a Michelin Kitchen in South of France, but she started her venture T-Pop! In Delhi to bide her time while she waits for her restaurant to open in April. Conosh, a company co-owned by three friends Anshumala, Neha and Vaibhav, is basically a conduit between home chefs and foodies. Before the pandemic hit, the primary way they would do so was by setting up pop-up kitchens in the homes of chefs, but since that was no longer possible in 2020, they tweaked their offerings to include marketing and delivery services to home chefs as well as offering workshops with master chefs like <keyword id="1426431" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gary-Mehigan">Gary Mehigan</keyword>, Sashi Chelia, <keyword id="973254" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ranveer-Brar">Ranveer Brar</keyword>, and <keyword id="4829" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kunal-Kapur">Kunal Kapur</keyword> to home chefs who were keen on sharpening their skills. Conosh now has over 800 chefs and has delivered to over 15,000 customers in Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru. While the idea of starting a home kitchen sounds ideal, the journey is far from easy. From inventory to delivery, the home chef business is fraught with many issues and uncertainties. Some of which were either exasperated or even solved during the pandemic. <div type="image" title="Double cooked pork belly" msid="81494745" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Double cooked pork belly&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The kitchen-to-mouth conundrum Delivery is a key element most home chefs have trouble negotiating. And while there were a plethora of companies who started offering delivery services at competitive prices during the pandemic, finding a reliable vendor requires a lot of patience and multiple attempts before honing in on one. Nicole Juneja and her mum Kusuma Juneja started their venture, Mood, back in 2018. Initially, they operated purely on the takeaway model, but the pandemic forced them to change their stance and start delivering food. "While the lockdown helped us grow our business, in fact, it was our best year ever, a key challenge we faced was trying to figure out the logistics, which is primarily the deliveries. It's hard to find a reliable partner," says Juneja. <div type="image" title="Vanilla fairy cakes" msid="81494875" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Vanilla fairy cakes&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> Can't have your cake and eat it too Business Insider spoke to Anshumala, one of the co-founders of Conosh, who tells us that while the pandemic saw a surge in both home chefs and consumers, the one thing the consumers often gripe over is the price. "Diners particularly talk about the prices and they compare it to restaurant food. However, it cannot be directly compared to restaurant food for a variety of reasons. The first and the most obvious ones are obviously because these guys are working on a much smaller scale, and they're making everything fresh so they don't have the economies of scale like restaurant kitchens. Also, as an example, we have a home chef called Sumitra who specialises in Andhra Brahmin food in Bangalore and she travels to Vishakhapatnam to get some of her ingredients in order to maintain the authenticity of the food she offers. So, of course, the cost of her offering will be higher than a restaurant's." Recipe for growth — limit your orders "While the lockdown definitely helped us expand our business, increasing our scale makes you realise the limitations of a home kitchen. And you do have to set an upper limit for orders and things like that, just because there's only that much space and equipment," Juneja tells us. Along with that, there was the issue of little or no additional help in terms of staff, especially during the lockdown that made operations so much harder for home chefs. <div type="image" title="Christmas rum fruit cake" msid="81494895" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Christmas rum fruit cake&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The not-so-palatable cost? Touching upon the point raised by Anshumala, the mere fact that home chefs operate on a smaller scale, their cost of ingredients is also much higher. Plus, what sets them apart is the fact that they use the best and most authentic ingredients that don't come cheap. "While the cost to deliver items may have reduced a notch, the material and packaging costs have also shot up, which, in turn, has led me to charge more. Plus, earlier, I used to go to wholesale markets to get the raw materials that I can no longer do thanks to the pandemic, which has impacted my costs," says Shweta Andrews, founder of Bakes Ahoy, a business specialising in artisanal and premium baked goods. Fill out a few forms before you do the filling In November 2020, the government made it mandatory for all home chefs who have a turnover of ₹12 lakh and above to have a Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (<keyword id="154680" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="FSSAI">FSSAI</keyword>) registration number. Failure to do so could result in a fine of ₹5 lakhs or face jail time. But while most imagined this would be a huge pain, it really isn't. All you have to do is log into the website, submit a few documents, and pay a nominal sum and within 2-4 weeks, the job is done. However, in June 2020, FSSAI launched a new cloud-based food safety compliance online platform called <a target="_blank" href="https://foscos.fssai.gov.in/" class="editor-rtfLink">Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS)</a>, which will eventually replace the current Food Licensing and Registration System (FLRS). "FoSCoS is conceptualised to provide one point stop for all engagement of an FBO [Food Business Operators] with the department for any regulatory compliance transaction," according to the government <a target="_blank" href="https://fssai.gov.in/upload/press_release/2020/06/5ed4be98c59aaPress_Release_FoSCoS_01_06_2020.pdf" class="editor-rtfLink">press release</a>. This system will be launched in a phased manner, and Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Goa, Delhi, Odisha, Manipur, Chandigarh, Puducherry and Ladakh are a part of the first phase. If you live in these states, it will be prudent to register with FoSCoS at a nominal fee of ₹100 per year even if your turnover is not as much under the 'Petty Food Business Operators' section. Feeling the heat With thousands joining the army of home chefs, the competition has multiplied, leading to everyone trying out new methods to woo clients -- from sending personalised notes to offering special Onam Sadya meal boxes with all the fixins' including a banana leaf and directions on how to arrange the food items. "Because the competition is so stiff, I continuously have to come up with new ideas and designs for cakes, which is a good thing because I learn more and improve my skills," however, Andrews adds, "now that there are thousands of home bakers in the market, I now have to put in money on Instagram and Facebook to promote myself."

<ul class="summary-list"><li>We tried everything on the UK and US <keyword id="58553" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Pizza-Hut">Pizza Hut</keyword> menus to find out the big differences between the two.</li><li>While the two <keyword id="41941" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="fast-food">fast food</keyword> chains look similar on the surface there were differences between the sizes, calories, and ingredients.</li></ul>Following is a transcript of the <keyword id="21654" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="video">video</keyword>.Harry Kersh: From calorie count to portion sizes, we wanted to find out all the differences between <keyword id="6358351" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="pizza">Pizza</keyword> Hut in the UK and the US. This is "<keyword id="6181" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Food">Food</keyword> Wars."Joe Avella: At a Pizza Hut in the US, the pizza size that you want to get is often dictated by the type of crust you want to get. For instance, this right here is the smallest you can get, 6 inches, but you can only get it with the pan crust.Harry: In the UK, our pizzas come in three sizes. Firstly, we have the small. [crickets chirping] OK, so they didn't actually have a small pizza when we went, because they said that no one orders them and if they do they normally just give them mediums. However, a small is supposed to be 9 inches across.Joe: In the US, at a Pizza Hut, the only small pizza you can get is one with gluten-free crust. This one here is 10 inches.Harry: The next size we have in the UK is the medium pizza. This one is 11 inches across.Joe: The large you also get in the hand-tossed, the pan, or the thin and crispy crust. This one: 14 inches.Harry: Pizza Hut in the UK also offers an all-in-one pan box meal, where you can get a large pizza of your choice as well as two sides and two sauces.Joe: Here in the US, you can get two box meal options. This first one is a medium pizza, five breadsticks, and some dipping sauce, and then 10 cinnamon sticks with dipping icing. And it comes in one box? That really helps when you're eating this in your car by yourself. [laughing] Not big enough, you say? Don't worry. Pizza Hut has got you and the family covered. This is the big dinner box. Ooh, man! [laughing] Look at this, dude! It's like opening the suitcase in "Pulp Fiction."[angelic music]This looks awesome! You got two pizzas. I got pepperoni, and I got sausage. 10 cheese sticks, and you get an option of either pasta or chicken wings. Get real. Get wings.Joe: In the UK, we got these ones from a restaurant, and they gave us a portion of six barbecue wings.Joe: Not to be outdone, we went ahead and proved a point to no one by going just a little bit further with our wing size options. You can get six, you can get 12, you can get 18, or 36. [upbeat tuba music] Lemon pepper? Nope, I don't like that.Harry: Who's getting the better deal for their money? Well, in the UK, a large cheese pizza will cost you 15 pounds 99. That's a price of 15 cents per square inch.Joe: The US large hand-tossed cheese pizza is about $13.99, which is about 9 cents per square inch, making it about 40% cheaper than the same pizza in the UK.Harry: So, here we have a large classic-crust cheese pizza and a large pan-crust cheese pizza. Now, these are the same price and the same diameter. We wanted to find out which one gives you more pizza for your money, so what we're going to do is try and weigh equivalent slices and see which one comes out on top. Joe: All right. We will weigh a large slice ourselves.Harry: So, Pizza Hut large pizzas in the UK are supposed to be cut into 10 slices, but they've actually cut this into eight, so what we're going to do is try and find the slices that are the same size, for scientific accuracy. Let's weigh a slice of classic crust cheese and see what it comes to. Now let's weigh the pan crust. So, our equivalent-size slice of pan pizza is about 103 grams.Joe: Similarly here in the US, this is the hand-tossed, this is the pan, both large cheese. Pan. So, one slice of pan is about 125 grams. Hm. Do the next one. Slice is almost the exact same size. 80 grams. That's, like, significantly less pizza. Same price. Ah, yeah. Stick with the pan. Look how thick that is versus this.Harry: In the UK, a large pan pizza should be cut into 10 slices, but ours is eight. Assuming it was 10 slices, each slice would be 226 calories, and that brings the total for a large pan to 2,260 calories.Joe: In the US, our pizzas apparently are all eight slices regardless of size, so one slice of a large pan Pizza Hut pizza is 360 calories, making the entire pie 2,880 calories.Harry: One of these also contains 99 grams of fat as well as 3,400 milligrams of sodium.Joe: This entire pizza also has about 135 grams of fat. 54 of those are saturated fat, which I'm certain is the bad fat. And it also has 5.31 grams of sodium. That, in case you didn't know, punch in, is 221% of your daily sodium intake. Don't eat this all in one day.Harry: It's got 100% of your daily flavor in it. What about the most calorific thing on the menu? Well, in the UK, that's a large stuffed crust pepperoni feast. If it is 10 slices, each slice is 292 calories, bringing the total to 2,920. One of these pizzas contains more than double your daily sodium allowance and more than triple your saturated fat allowance.Joe: If you want to have even more calories in your pizza, then you've got to go with the most calorific pizza on the Pizza Hut menu, and, thank you, Conner, that is, of course, the meat lovers. This entire thing is 3,760 calories. 400% of your daily saturated fat. 400! And it also is three times your daily sodium. If I've not put a fine enough point on it, don't eat this.Harry: Here's everything in a pan-pizza base from a UK Pizza Hut. Wheat flour, water, yeast , vegetable rapeseed oil, salt, premix (salt, calcium sulphate, emulsifiers E481, E472e, E471, flour-treatment agent E300, enzyme (alpha amylase, xylanase, glucose oxidase, protease, cullulase)), sugar, flour-treatment agent, ascorbic acid E300.Joe: In the US, our pan dough has enriched flour, which is bleached wheat flour, malted barley flour, niacin, furious sulfate? Don't mess with that sulfate. He's pissed. Thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid; water, yeast. It contains 2% or less of salt, soybean oil, vital wheat gluten, sugar, enzymes, ascorbic acid, sodium stearoyl lass-ih-tight. Lac-the-lite. I think it's lac-the-lite.Harry: Now, the UK list might actually look worse, but you shouldn't be too scared of the E numbers. For the most part, the chemicals actually exist in the US dough as well but are referred to by different names. For example, E481 is just another way of referring to the sodium stearoyl lactylate. Also, the E472e that's found in the UK dough is otherwise known as datem, and that appears in the US hand-tossed crust. What about the marinara sauce? Well, in the UK it contains tomatoes, citric acid, sugar, oregano, basil, marjoram, thyme, salt, onion powder, maltodextrin, yeast extract, rapeseed oil, guar gum, garlic powder, and silicone dioxide.Joe: Whereas our sauce contains tomato puree, which is water and tomato paste, maltodextrin, salt, spices, garlic powder, tomato fibers, olive oil, canola oil, citric acid, and natural flavors, so it sounds like it's pretty much the same thing.Harry: How about the cheese? In the UK, we refer to our cheese as mozzarella, and it contains the following: mozzarella cheese, salt, lactic cultures, and potato starch. It's actually pretty short, compared to the first two.Joe: In the US, the Pizza Hut refers to its cheese as cheese, which contains mozzarella cheese, pasteurized milk, cheese cultures, salt, enzymes, modified food starch, sugarcane fiber, potassium chloride -- [burps] Excuse me. Ugh! Natural flavors, ascorbic acid. Bleh!Harry: There is one thing to look out for on the menu. If you're in the US and you get a salad, the croutons contain azodicarbonamide, or ADA. This is a substance that's usually used to make vinyl foam plastics, which form things like yoga mats. It's actually been banned from use in food in the UK since the 1990s.Joe: So, this is my comment on the yoga-mat thing. It's always something. Even when we're trying to be healthy, our salad has yoga-mat plastic in it. It's ridiculous. Like, why do our croutons have plastic in them? Just get regular croutons without plastic! It doesn't make any sense. This pizza is the bomb, dude. It's really good.Harry: Here is everything you can only find on the menu at a UK Pizza Hut. And we've got quite a few exclusives!Joe: And these are all the exclusives you can only get at a US Pizza Hut.Harry: So, I'm not sure if it's like this in the US, but in the UK, Pizza Hut's operations are kind of split into two halves. You have a bunch of restaurants, where you will go and have a sit-down meal, and then you also have a bunch of carryout locations, which just do delivery orders. The menus are actually slightly different, depending on where you get your food from. The brown ones are actually from a sit-down restaurant, and the red ones are from a takeaway restaurant. We wanted to get a selection of both to see all of the foods you can get from the UK Pizza Hut.Joe: Per what Harry was talking about before, places for carryout versus delivery only, I have no idea. I just went on the website and ordered it, and this showed up, so.Harry: Let's start with the exclusive pizzas. So, across these few pizzas, we have pretty much all of the exclusive customizations available in the UK. We'll start with some of the doughs. On the left we have our gluten-free option. I think there actually is one of these in the US, but could be fun to compare. It looks pretty standard from the top. Then my personal favorite is here, which is the cheesy-bites crust. So, instead of just a standard crust, they get twists of dough and fill them with cheese and then layer those around the outside. Here we have a sprinkled, kind of, like, herby, cheesy situation on the crust. I've never had this one before. I think it's quite new. But it looks and smells pretty good. And then finally we have a vegan stuffed-crust option, which is great because you shouldn't be robbed of extra cheese just for being vegan.Joe: Right in the center here is the US exclusive Pizza Hut pizza. It's shaped like a heart, and it has all the ingredients you only get in the US. Went with the creamy garlic Parmesan base, as a sauce. The crust is a flavored crust, and I went with the Hut Favorite. I have no idea what that is. And exclusive meats I had put on here was Italian sausage, meatballs, and pork. Also has banana peppers. Shaped like a heart. Why it's all year round and not just on Valentine's Day is beyond me, but apparently you can do this.Harry: Nothing says romance like a heart-shaped pizza. How do you cut that thing, though? It seems like getting even slices out of that would be an absolute nightmare.Joe: Look what I brought. All right, so I guess I will just do...[slicing][jazzy music]Right? Yeah, no, I hate that.Harry: Now, as is becoming traditional on "Food Wars," what we have here is a UK Only pizza. This is a pizza with the cheesy bites crust, with vegan pepperphoni, caramelized onions, and rocket on it. It's actually not bad. I'm going to try a cheesy bite as well, because I feel that's part of the experience. I think this is the first UK Only creation we've made that I can actually endorse. This is actually pretty good. The vegan pepperoni, I've got to say, is actually good. The texture is pretty much there. It's quite salty, a little bit of spice to it, and the cheesy bites, it does make it a little bit harder to hold, 'cause it's like, what are you supposed to hold on to? But they themselves are actually really tasty. So, yeah. Thumbs-up for the UK Only.Joe: Pizza Hut's most infamous menu item is their take on the calzone, aka the P'Zone. P, apostrophe, Z, O, N, E. I have had a P'Zone before. They're actually really good. I was really bummed to find out that where we are filming it, in this part of the United States, the Los Angeles, California, area -- went on the internet, and sure enough the P'Zone is available, at least in Saint Louis and at least in Cincinnati, so if anyone watching in the United States would like to ship me a P'Zone from their P'Zone-plentiful part of the United States, please do. Um, I don't know how I'd get you my address. [laughs]Harry: Now, as you can see, we have a bunch of exclusive sides in the UK. I'm not entirely sure what all of these are, because some of them look very similar, so we'll have a run-through and I'll try and point out the ones I can identify. So, at the back here, we've got some potato wedges. I'm never really sure why restaurants offer potato wedges, because to me they're just worse than fries in pretty much every metric. Then we've got a bunch of different chicken options. We've got these chicken-strip things here, we've got these spicy-looking nugget things, we've got these herby-looking nugget things, and then we've got some plain-looking nugget things, as well as these, I think, Southern fried bites. Apologies to actual Southern Americans, because I'm sure they are an abomination.Joe: Here in America, we have something called WingStreet. From what I understand, WingStreet was a separate business, or a separate restaurant chain, that is owned by the same brand, and therefore you can get WingStreet wings when you order from Pizza Hut. Anyway, we have a bunch of different sauce options, like we have a honey barbecue, Buffalo, which can be mild or medium or burning hot, garlic Parmesan, and, of course... what was this one that I hate?Conner: Lemon pepper.Joe: Lemon pepper, which I don't like. You can also get a Hawaiian teriyaki, a spicy garlic, a Cajun-style dry rub, or you can just get these bad boys naked. Oof! Worst time to burp there.Harry: Why do all the WingStreet containers look like Death Stars? That seems like a suboptimal way to transport your food. I don't mind going to my local gym when I'm at home, but getting me into a hotel gym is a challenge and I'm always more apt to eat unhealthy food while traveling.
I'm sure I'm not alone, so for today's Maximize Monday I wanted to take a look at the hotel programs that help both travelers stay healthy while away from home. Feel free to share your tips/tricks for not falling off the wagon when you're on the road!
Many hotel chains offer perks that go straight to your waistline, such as all-you-can-eat breakfast buffets or complimentary cookies, but thankfully some do have health-conscious guests in mind.
Days Inn: Days Inn announced earlier this month the launch of their <a href="http://www.wyndhamworldwide.com/media/press-releases/press-release?wwprdid=1508">Dayfit program</a> targeting health-conscious travelers by upgrading properties with better fitness facilities and a more nutritious start to the day with new breakfast options. Adding to the current Daybreak Breakfast, there will be choices such as Dannon Light &amp; Fit yogurts, Quaker Oats Oatmeal Hearty Kettle and a low-calorie cheese omelet. The new Dayfit fitness centers will be custom-designed by Precor and standard equipment will include a treadmill, elliptical, stretching mat, stability ball and medicine balls.

Fairmont: Fairmont <keyword id="6368036" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Hotels">Hotels</keyword> &amp; Resorts properties have incorporated healthy eating into their menus with the <a href="http://thepointsguy.com/2013/09/maximize-monday-which-hotels-are-healthiest/www.fairmont.com/promotions/lifestyle-cuisine-plus/" target="_blank">Lifestyle Cuisine program</a>, developing tasty offerings for guests with an eye toward nutritional meals, including low-carb, low-fat, and vegetarian diets. In the Lifestyle Cuisine Plus program, they go a step further with macrobiotic, vegan and vegetarian options too. Guests can then wind down with herbal Fairmont Wellness Teas.
The <a href="http://www.fairmont.com/fpc/fairmont-fit/" target="_blank" class="external">Fairmont Fit program</a> is open to all Fairmont President Club members and is complimentary for Premier and Platinum-level members. Lightening the load in more ways than one, the hotel perk provides Reebok workout clothes and shoes so you don't have to bring your own, an MP3 player and a yoga mat with stretch band so you can either workout in your room or hit the gym even if you didn't pack the right gear.
Hilton: Having just debuted its <a href="http://www3.hilton.com/en/hotels/new-york/new-york-hilton-midtown-NYCNHHH/dining/index.html" target="_blank" class="external">Herb N' Kitchen</a> take-out restaurant at the Hilton New York Midtown, the chain is taking one more step into the realm of wholesome eating. The latest venture aims to incorporate local gourmet food into an upscale restaurant and accompanying take-out market. Guests can buy healthy food to take away, and order diet-friendly meals in the restaurant or for in-room delivery. With plenty of salads, sandwiches and flatbreads, the focus is that food-on-the-go shouldn't mean that you are piling on the calories in an effort to save time. Separated into four sections - Arrival, Barista, Oven and Buffet - the Herb N' Kitchen aims to have every meal covered whether you want a quick to-go salad, or a more substantial hot entree.
The new concept is the latest health-conscious move by Hilton, which in 2006 partnered up with Precor to launch <a href="http://hhonors1.hilton.com/en_US/hh/landing/precor/index.do" target="_blank" class="external">Fitness by Precor</a> facilities at Hilton, Doubletree and Embassy Suites Hotels across the US. The specially designed fitness centers include Precor cardio machines with personal TV screens so you can while away the hours watching your favorite show while working up a sweat.

Carefully Served.</a>" was adopted by Hyatt in 2012 to introduce health-conscious food options to their guests that focus on portion control and calorie counts - as well as fat, sodium and additive amounts. They have since paired up with <a href="http://ahealthieramerica.org/http://" target="_blank" class="external">Partnership for a Healthier America</a> to encourage kids to eat more fruits and vegetables and offer them non-fat or low-fat milk.
IHG: Why dedicate one room to <keyword id="6354750" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="health">health</keyword> and fitness when you can gear a whole hotel to it? That is the thought behind IHG's upcoming <a href="http://evenhotels.com/" target="_blank" class="external">EVEN Hotel</a> chain. The new collection of properties are putting the emphasis on healthy travel with in-room workout spaces with <keyword id="6358589" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="exercise">exercise</keyword> equipment available for checkout, better food options, and free filtered water throughout the hotel. Currently, their interactive website is already taking suggestions and feedback from future guests to enhance the experience, including comments about there being too much greasy food and not enough gym equipment in most hotel chains. 
The sleek and modern rooms have been designed by Amsterdam-based branding specialists Uxus and are a sharp contrast to IHG's other brands such as Holiday Inn and InterContinental. Rooms will include yoga mats for floor exercises, and innovative space savers such as a coat rack that doubles as a pull-up bar, and a luggage bench that turns into a weight bench. The first two EVEN hotels are set to open early next year in Rockville, MD, and Norwalk, CT.
J.W. Marriott: Having brought in nutritional expert Keri Glassman and chef Ryan Littman, J.W. Marriott created its own <a href="http://www.jwexperts.marriott.com/jwexperts/keri-glassman/http://" target="_blank" class="external">healthy eating blog</a> to inspire people whether they were staying at the hotel chain or not. However, it doesn't seem to have been updated in a couple of years! Marriott needs to kick up their focus on healthy living if they want to keep up with the competition.

Kimpton: Boutique chain Kimpton likes to think outside of the box - and onto the yoga mat. Among their <a href="http://thepointsguy.com/2013/03/kimpton-hotels-intouch-loyalty-program-the-basics/" target="_blank">many unique perks</a> is <a href="http://www.kimptonhotels.com/promotions/yoga.aspx" target="_blank" class="external">providing a yoga mat to every room</a> and free on-demand fitness TV perks. If pedal power is more your style than Downward Dog, they offer stylish 3-speed bike loans from San Francisco company <a href="http://www.kimptonhotels.com/promotions/bike.aspx" target="_blank" class="external">PUBLIC</a>. Most Kimpton hotels have fitness centers and pools, and if not, the concierge are dedicated to directing you to the nearest exercise hot spot. Kimpton also joined up with an expert to dish on healthy options, and Joy Bauer created a full <a href="http://www.kimptonhotels.com/epk/menu.aspx" target="_blank" class="external">Travel Healthy In-Room Dining Menu</a>. Each item include calories, fat, carb and protein content from Slim Style Oatmeal or Smokey Turkey Burger Melt. 
Omni: Guests at Omni hotels don't even have to leave their rooms to workout thanks to the <a href="http://www.omnihotels.com/RatesAndReservations/GetFitKitsAndRooms.aspx" target="_blank" class="external">Get Fit Kit</a>. The hotel provides a handy bag with a set of dumbbells, an elastic exercise band, a floor mat and a mini AM/FM headset so you can create your own routine, and they bring even water and a chilled towel to wind down with afterwards. If you literally want to go the extra mile, why not book into the Get Fit Room, which features a personal treadmill as an added amenity.
Sheraton: <a href="http://www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/about/news/news_release_detail.html?Id=COLOR_YOUR_PLATE" target="_blank" class="external">Color Your Plate</a> by Sheraton Fitness is a dining program aimed to brighten up your diet by adding three colors from fruits and vegetables to your plate, all adding up to 500 calories or less. The rainbow bright initiative is part of Core Performance's "Nutrition Color Code" that offers guest an easy-to-follow way to eat better on the road. The color table includes:

You can even encourage your business colleagues to jump on the healthy with bandwagon with SuperFoodsRX Meeting Breaks that serve smoothies and protein shakes. Westin also has a <a href="http://www.westinessence.com/#/move-well/gear-lending" target="_blank" class="external">Gear Lending program</a> that loans guests workout clothes and New Balance trainers for a $5 fee. Once you've worked up a sweat, simply leave them in your room in a mesh bag.
