Online travel marketplace <keyword id="325017" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="wego" source="Orion">Wego</keyword> on Monday said it is acquiring <keyword id="132652" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cleartrip" source="Orion">Cleartrip</keyword>'s Middle East business from <keyword id="6354742" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="flipkart" source="Orion">Flipkart</keyword> Group for an undisclosed sum. The transaction also includes the sale of Flyin.com and a technology co-operation agreement between Wego and Flipkart. Cleartrip expanded into the Middle East region in 2010 and acquired Riyadh based Flyin.com in 2018, which played a similar role in kick-starting online travel in Saudi Arabia. Wego and Cleartrip both have their regional headquarters located in Dubai. "This acquisition will significantly increase our scale and capabilities and will strengthen our ability to partner and collaborate across our region," said Ross Veitch, CEO and Co-Founder of Wego. The acquisition is expected to close in the second half this year. Flipkart sells Cleartrip's Middle East business to travel marketplace Wego

Walmart-owned e-commerce giant <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> is set to acquire Cleartrip, the online travel aggregator. The company today said in a statement that it will acquire 100% shareholding of Cleartrip and its operations. “The Flipkart Group is committed to transforming customer experiences through digital commerce. Cleartrip is synonymous with travel for many customers, and as we diversify and look at new areas of growth, this investment will help strengthen our wide range of offerings for customers,” Kalyan Krishnamurthy, chief executive office of Flipkart Group said in a statement. Flipkart had indicated its interest in travel when it had first partnered with MakeMyTrip in 2018 and then switched to Ixigo. Cleartrip was founded in 2006 by Hrush Bhatt, Matthew Spacie and Stuart Crighton. After the acquisition, Cleartrip will continue to function as a separate entity and will retain all its employees. However, during the pandemic, Cleartrip had already laid off as many as <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/funding/flipkart-likely-to-bag-cleartrip-for-40-million-in-distress-sale/articleshow/82050918.cms">500</a> employees. “Cleartrip has been a pioneer in capitalising on technology to simplify the travel experience for our customers. Flipkart acquires Cleartrip in an effort to cement its position in the travel booking segment

<ul><li><keyword id="132652" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="cleartrip" source="Orion">Cleartrip</keyword> to increase its workforce to 700 employees, a three-fold increase from October last year.</li><li>Earlier this quarter, the <keyword id="7254678" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="travel-aggregator" source="Orion">travel aggregator</keyword> had increased its workforce by 60%.</li><li>The hiring will be done in technology and product teams and across various destinations in India.</li></ul>Cleartrip, a Bengaluru-based travel aggregator website, is looking forward to ramping up its workforce by 400 employees by December 2022. Hiring of 400 employees will take the workforce to a total of 700 employees, a three-fold increase from 240 employees in October 2021. The hiring will be done in technology and product teams and across various destinations in India — Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Punjab. Earlier this quarter, the travel aggregator had increased its workforce by 60%. Large number of hiring was dedicated towards its plans to scale up its hotel category business. When asked about the reason behind this massive hiring spree, Ayyappan Rajagopal, chief executive officer (CEO) of Cleartrip said, “Cleartrip is actively hiring for their upcoming tech park in Chennai where all the technology-related backhand work will be handled so that we can reach the target of 400 employees by the end of this year.” He further said, “By hiring top talent from the industry across levels, we are infusing fresh energy and ideas into our teams, setting us up for success. As we move forward in 2022, one of our key goals this year is to bring more offerings, scale up our existing verticals to bring more digitally-enabled travel experiences for our customers to boost their confidence while travelling during what has been a difficult time.” The announcement comes after Cleartrip’s acquisition by the Flipkart Group, part of US-based Walmart Group, which has accelerated the brand’s growth strategy to make an end-to-end travel app for the company by the end of 2022. After Flipkart Flights, the ecommerce player ventures into hotel bookings business

In a bid to attract more and more customers, <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> has integrated with companies like <keyword id="6359128" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Redbus">Redbus</keyword>, Zomato and <keyword id="132652" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cleartrip">Cleartrip</keyword> so that customers can directly use the mobile app to book bus tickets, flight tickets, hotel tickets and order food. 
 
While Cleartrip, Zomato and RedBus have got access to Snapdeal's huge user base, Snapdeal will be earning a commission for each booking for these companies made through its app. 
 
This can prove to be <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Snapdeal-is-now-valued-over-6-billion-Thanks-to-200-mnfunding/articleshow/50992078.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">financially beneficial for Snapdeal</a> since booking air tickets is a large gross merchandise value (GMV) category and food ordering is category that sees high frequency. 
 
"Horizontals are looking at monetising their user base with a focus on GMV and repeat use cases. As funding environment becomes tougher, growth in these metrics will stand out," a Snapdeal investor told ET on the condition of anonymity. 
 
It was last year that Snapdeal CEO Kunal Bahl had said that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Snapdeal-aims-to-overthrow-Flipkart-says-CEO-Kunal-Bahl/articleshow/48741092.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">they would surpass archrival Flipkart</a> in terms of GMV by March 2016, declaring an open war in the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Swords-are-drawn-Snapdeal-and-Flipkart-are-challenging-each-other-to-become-numero-uno/articleshow/48770391.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Indian e-commerce space</a>. 
 
GMV refers to the overall sales by merchants on an e-commerce platform, without factoring discounts. Out of these, the e-tailer gets 5 to 20% as margin on an average. 
 
It was only two months back that Snapdeal had tied up with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Now-buyProperty-on-Sale-from-Snapdeal/articleshow/50589572.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">real estate developers</a> to launch real estate and financial services on its website, to boost the GMVs.

Walmart International, - which includes the company's operations in markets like India, China, Japan, Africa, Canada, the UK, Mexico, Canada and Chile - had posted an 8.3 per cent decline to USD 27.3 billion. This was "negatively affected by government-mandated restrictions in certain markets," said Walmart in its post earning statement. However, in Q1 Walmart International "retained market growth of 5.1 per cent. This was led by strength in Flipkart and Canada" and <keyword id="436047" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ecommerce">eCommerce</keyword>, which contributed 16 per cent of the total net sales of the division. "In India, for the first quarter, Flipkart and PhonePe continue to experience strong growth," said Walmart President and CEO Doug McMillan in first-quarter earnings result call. At Flipkart monthly active users and consumers are key metrics and were performing well, he said. Last month, Walmart-owned Flipkart had announced to acquire 100 per cent of Cleartrip's shareholding of the online travel technology company. This further enhances its investments to strengthen its digital commerce offerings for customers, he said. "Our recent announcement of our intent to acquire clear trip, a leading online travel company underscores our commitment to transform the customers experience through digital commerce," said McMillan. It had also entered into a commercial partnership with the <keyword id="6367820" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="adani-group">Adani Group</keyword> to strengthen logistics and data centre. "We need to continue to add new capabilities including such areas as logistics and data storage. The recently announced partnership with Adani group would help us to do just that," McMillan said. The Bentonville-based company saw its total revenue rising 2.7 per cent to USD 138.3 billion in the fourth quarter. Walmart's net sales in the US, which is its biggest market, was up 5 per cent to USD 93.2 billion in the reported quarter from USD 88.7 billion in the year-ago period. "This was a strong quarter. Every segment performed well, and we're encouraged by traffic and grocery market share trends. Our optimism is higher than it was at the beginning of the year," said Doug McMillan. Walmart Inc owns a majority share in Flipkart. It had invested USD 16 billion in 2018 in the Bengaluru-based e-commerce platform. Reliance Jio, Amazon, PayTM and MakeMyTrip are the most trusted online brands in India

Acquisition in eCommerce sector is the trend these days. As India’s eCommerce is in its maturation period, there are two things happening- acquisition and funding. Soon after Snapdeal acquiring mobile recharge platform Freecharge, rival <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> has announced the acquisition of <keyword id="2829367" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="appiterate">Appiterate</keyword>, a mobile engagement and marketing automation company based out of Delhi. 
 
Strategically operating Appiterate targets consumers and increases sales of eCommerce by using push notifications and inapp messages. 
Nishant Verman, Senior Director, Corporate Development-Flipkart told The Economic Times, "Their innovative platform and tech team will bring deep mobile capabilities to the table which is a key focus area for Flipkart." 
 As per a news report by the ET, Appiterate, which started out as a testing platform for mobile apps had raised more than $500,000 from SAIF Partners &amp; angel investors, including former <keyword id="6354576" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Facebook">Facebook</keyword> VP of Engineering &amp; Products, Greg Badros and LimeRoad CTO <keyword id="289857" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prashant-Malik">Prashant Malik</keyword> in 2014. 
 
The Appiterate team will join Flipkart, Tanuj Mendiratta, co-founder and CEO, Appiterate has confirmed. Appiterate's mobile marketing automation platform will be integrated into Flipkart's mobile app for better targeting. 
 Flipkart has also said in the near future, it will become a mobile only company. eCommerce firms in India have been increasingly focussing on pushing their mobile app. Online travel company Cleartrip, for instance, said on Wednesday that over 53% of its traffic now comes from the mobile. A majority of customers for <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword>, Snapdeal and Paytm are also mobile.

Flipkart acquires Appiterate. Is it readying for ‘mobile only’ operation?

You can now download a <keyword id="604216" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="mobile-phone-application">mobile phone application</keyword>, <keyword id="4919152" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Payzapp">PayZapp</keyword> to make your online <keyword id="6515675" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="money-transfer">money transfer</keyword> much easier. The private lender, <keyword id="6357149" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="HDFC-bank">HDFC Bank</keyword> today launched the app that will revolutionize the way payments and purchases are done using mobile devices. 

	"Download this app (PayZapp, a payment solution) and pay with one click for all your spends, from mobile phone top-ups to instant money transfers, bill payments, groceries, movie tickets to even big-ticket purchases such as foreign holidays," PTI reported, quoting a statement by HDFC Bank. 
 <keyword id="2845432" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="SmartBuy">SmartBuy</keyword> will help drive the payment process through the PayZapp. The bank has tied up with <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>, Cleartrip, Goibibo and Expedia for SmartBuy. Further, customers would be able to make money transfers, pay utility bills and recharge their mobile and Direct To Home (<keyword id="6411255" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="DTH">DTH</keyword>) connections with just one click and a single PIN entry. 

	PayZapp does not require credit or debit card numbers and security codes to be entered for every purchase. There is no pre-paid card restriction on daily or monthly limits and no need to load money to pay, the bank said. 
 

	PayZapp is part of the bank's digital banking offering called 'GoDigital', which centres around the theme of "Bank aapki muthi mein". 
 

	"PayZapp is path-breaking. The customer will find that it is not only the #Powerofbanking which is in his muthi, but effectively the whole world," said Parag Rao, Business Head, Cards, Payment Products and Merchant Acquiring Services, in the statement.
 

	In 2014-15, 63% of all transactions at HDFC Bank are conducted through digital channels, it added.

Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal account for a huge chunk of these offers. 
 
Siddharth Raisurana, Director at ABC Consultants told Economic Times the company conducted more than 100 senior-level searches for e-Commerce companies in the past six months. 
 
The executive search division of CareerNet, Longhouse Consulting, is looking at a dozen plus mandates a month. 
 
"We have 70-80% of our business coming from e-Commerce and expect to handle 180-200 mandates this year, up from 75-85 last year," Anshuman Das, managing partner, Longhouse Consulting, told ET. 
 
"We are filling in at least one position a day at the leadership level," GC Jayaprakash, executive director at RGF Executive Search, told the financial daily. 
He added that the companies were willing to pay a premium to attract top talent that would lead to wealth creation and high valuation if they go ahead with an IPO. 
 
Meanwhile, human resource heads of e-Commerce companies also agreed on the estimates. 
 "Investors are bringing hundreds of millions of dollars. We can spend it either on infrastructure or people. And that's what they are doing - investing in people," the <keyword id="231518" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Human-Resource-Head">human resource head</keyword> of one of the leading online retailers, on conditions of anonymity, told ET. 
 
The financial daily also reported that the HR head of another online retailer was currently scouting for such senior level talent for several of its revenue generating core functions. 
 "This year also we are looking at 30-40% increase in hiring across the board and a corresponding increase in leadership levels," said Raj Raghavan, head-HR, <keyword id="6354743" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Amazon-India">Amazon India</keyword>. He declined to comment on salaries. 
 
Even Snapdeal is looking to beef up leadership hiring.
