Flexibility overpowers pay hike An average Indian office-goer spends over two hours commuting everyday — accounting for 7% of their day. For them, remote working can be a panacea. “If this itself is brought down by a day, the levels of motivation will increase. Employees may even be willing to put in additional hours in 4 days rather than travel the additional day,” Neeti Sharma, senior VP at TeamLease Services told Business Insider. According to a recent survey by recruitment platform Indeed, employees say that if given an option - they would want to work from home at least two days a week. In fact, over half of the surveyed employees said that they would consider changing their job or even take a pay cut in if offered remote working. Increased productivity “The employees get the advantage of working at their convenient times and when their productivity is higher. At the same time, they are also provided with an environment of trust and autonomy. With happier employees and a more trusting environment, productivity naturally increases,” said Ajay Shah, VP and head of recruitment at TeamLease Services. It can also ease the stress that most Indians face. India is the most vacation deprived country in the world, as per a report by Expedia. A lot of employees who wish to go on a vacation are held back at offices because of workload. “If implemented properly, remote working can be a powerful means of engaging the workforce and attracting a wider pool of talent. Employees can channel their creativity more productively if allowed to work at their convenience,” said Sashi Kumar, managing director, Indeed India. The company offers its employees the option of paid time-off — which allows them to manage their time and meet productivity goals on their own schedule. As a cost-cutting measure Remote working can also save costs for the company who do not have to rent out large spaces. “Companies focusing on customer experience also hire people who work from home in dedicated slots for inbound and outbound calls, which saves the overall cost of company. Accenture, Erricsson, Capgemini and IBM are a few examples of flexible work environments,” said Guruprasad Srinivasan, chief operating officer at Quess Corp. Employees too save by working remotely. As per a recent study, an employee working from home saves nearly $6000 annually, while the organisation saves almost twice the amount. In that case, for each employee who opts to work remotely the organization saves around $12,000. These savings are the eliminated overheads like office space, utilities, and other expenses associated with having employees report to the office. According to a survey by DigitalOcean, non-flexible working environments motivated 24% of them to quit last year. The top reason however remains compensation - which motivated 28%. Yet, flexibility comes a close second as 21% who are planning on quitting this year for the same reason. Better benefits also motivated 17% of the respondents to resign last year, while 15% of them may quit this year. "Attracting and retaining developer talent is evolving rapidly and companies need to adapt to the new landscape. India’s 1.4 million strong gig economy added 40,000 women this year, according to an <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/jobs/women-bag-frontline-roles-in-gig-economy-but-lag-behind-in-wages/articleshow/70442660.cms?from=mdr">ET report.</a> But, they are making 10% less than men. On an average, women make an average of ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 per month in the newly emerging gig economy. According to Employment Outlook Report by TeamLease Services, the total number of women gig workers in India stands at 67,900 — including employees at delivery hubs and fulfillment centres. In 2017, the percentage of women in salaried jobs stood at nearly 52%, as per the data by <a href="http://www.mospi.gov.in/sites/default/files/publication_reports/Annual%20Report%2C%20PLFS%202017-18_31052019.pdf"> Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) 2017-18</a>. Startup Hiring Food-tech and <keyword id="35621" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="e-commerce">e-commerce</keyword> players such as Uber, Ola, <keyword id="830092" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zomato">Zomato</keyword> and Swiggy, account for nearly 90% of the total gig workers in India. It includes workforce that is remotely managed by online platforms. Walmart owned e-commerce platform Flipkart has around 300 women working at sorting centres, packaging and in charge of hubs. Flipkart offers the best wages and provides for safety and health at workplace for gig workers in India, as per <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/in-india-flipkart-tops-the-fairness-quotient-for-gig-economy-workers-report/articleshow/68593359.cms">Oxford Internet Institute</a>. It is followed by food delivery platform Foodpanda, cab services platform Ola and Uber. Food aggregators like Swiggy and Zomato too have female delivery partners, thanks to flexible working hours. Swiggy has over 700 women employees at its delivery hubs while Zomato has 500 all across. E-commerce platform Amazon has nearly 1,200 women employees in operational and managerial roles. India is the fifth largest country in terms of growth in flexi staff — which includes leased employees, contractual workers and temps hired from agencies. The organisations had to move to a remote setup in a matter of days, thanks to the lockdown. However, this gave the companies a chance to explore new employment models. Many companies are now evaluating an ‘alternative workforce model’ with gig workers and freelancers. According to Deloitte’s ‘Future of Work Accelerated’ report, three in five organisations (60%) are gauging increasing share of gig workers to reduce the dependence on full time workforce. A large chunk of such workers also lost their jobs ‘on paper’ leaving them with a bleak future even after the lockdown ends. “The slowdown started around mid-March and only around 20-30 million people now have their employment intact,” Pravin Agarwala, cofounder of Betterplace, a blue-collar employee management firm, <a href="https://m.economictimes.com/jobs/virus-takes-a-toll-on-blue-collar-staff-no-pay-for-12-crore/amp_articleshow/75415272.cms">told</a> ET. As many as 120 million gig workers are now unpaid. India’s gig economy is projected at a market size of $455 billion over the next three years — which might increase even further with the new-found interest. “A large majority of this is expected to be contributed by the unorganised sector of the economy, as India Inc's adoption of gig workers remains nascent at best,” the report said. Automotive companies, media houses and business process management companies are exploring areas that can be equipped with remote working models using gig workers on a sustained basis. A shared employment model For instance, the report referred to a global business process management company that is considering an alternative workforce for their blue-collar workers to recover in a post lockdown world. In fact, it might also venture into a shared employment model with other organisations. On the other hand, the companies heavily dependent on permanent workforce will continue doing so. To facilitate employee engagement, organisations are heavily investing in future-ready skills. These corporates have reported a three times increase in training and virtual learning programmes for skills like managing ambiguity, creating virtual presence, and negotiating remotely. Moreover the pandemic has led to the adoption of virtual collaboration tools. Three-fourths of CXOs said that there was a surge in ‘forced adoption’ of tech platforms. However, this has made the decision making process more efficient — largely due to efficiency coming from virtual meetings. In a post-Covid world, more companies will engage freelancers, says Deloitte

<keyword id="6354731" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="State-Bank-Of-India">State Bank of India</keyword> has introduced a new home loan option, called the <keyword id="13222" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SBI">SBI</keyword> <keyword id="3231248" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="flexipay">FlexiPay</keyword> Home Loan. The specialty of this home loan is that the repayment terms come in the form of lower EMIs in initial years, followed by higher EMIs. 
 
The public sector lender has refused to term it as a ‘teaser loan’, a term introduced by the bank in February 2009. SBI officials stated that it is not offering any discount in the interest rates or offering more loan to value. 
 
The statement released by the bank said that the new offering will enable young working professionals to get hold of higher loan amounts as compared to their loan eligibility under the standard home loan schemes. 
 
“This product cannot be called teaser loan as we have taken adequate safeguards like making it available only for salaried professionals and not for all categories of customers,” said Rajnish Kumar, managing director, SBI.

The policy extends a no-questions-asked leave to all employees once a month. These wellness leaves can be availed by the workforce to support their physical, mental, or emotional well-being by taking time off to unwind and rejuvenate themselves, the platform said in a statement. The employees can also utilise their wellness leaves to opt for leisurely activities. New Delhi, Jan 28 () In India, work-life balance plays a key role in employees' performance at work and organisations have acknowledged this as an important factor in reducing the attrition rate, says a survey.
 According to the India@Work report from global recruitment specialist - Michael Page India, achieving the perfect equilibrium among personal, professional and family life has become a day-to-day task for the modern Indian workforce.
 The survey which was conducted among 585 Gen-Y individuals (millennials) from varied sectors and senior levels across India noted that apart from the scope of responsibilities and tasks in the workplace, other factors such as commuting, employee-employer relationship and flexi-environment also affect the productivity of the employees.
 "Performance pressure and fear of losing jobs are the major reasons for extensive stress beyond work hours. Identifying multiple ways to address such problems has become critical for employees as well as organisations," said Mohit Bharti, Regional Director at Michael Page India.
 As per the survey, an average 92 per cent spend less than an hour on personal matters at work, 65 per cent employees say they chat with family and friends on messaging apps and 27 per cent send personal e-mails at the workplace.
 Nine out of 10 respondents feel a flexible work environment is very important. 60 per cent indicated it gives them better work-life balance, while 34 per cent claim it increases professional productivity.
 "Several companies in India have started modifying their employee policies for a healthy work-life balance and controlled attrition rate. More than balancing, an integration is required between work and personal life in order to achieve higher productivity leading to a better outcome," Bharti added. DRR DRR ANU

It claims that 20% of its hiring or 160 employees would be freshers and college graduates. In the coming months, it will also be recruiting a CXO, vice president, and a senior vice president both for India and the US. In the US, it aims to appoint various C-suite level executives who will assist in strengthening and structuring the team present in the country. Kumar believes that the demand for upskilling and reskilling will prevail in the industry. “Over the past couple of years, the shift to online training and education led to a growth spurt in the number of providers in the industry. The industry is currently witnessing a transition phase with hybrid models of work and study,” he added. Founded in 2010, the company claims to conduct more than 3,000 live classes, with an average of 70,000 learners who collectively spend more than 500,000 hours each month on the platform. Its peers like Unacademy, Vedantu are laying off its workforce due to lower funding. Overall, the edtech industry has reportedly laid off 8,000 people due to economic slowdown.
