The latest circular from the agency warned that the Principal Director should be informed if any officer is seen interacting with the media. It also added that "any deviation from the order would amount to ‘dereliction of duty’ and would be liable for punitive action." The ED is a central probe agency that probes for large-scale financial crimes like money laundering. The senior officials contend that sensitive information related to ongoing probes have been leaked to the press, and that led to the latest gag order.

Deloitte India partners with News Broadcasters Federation to build an integrated performance and rewards forum for the news media industry

As per the report ‘<keyword id="3591500" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="VCCEdge-Start-up-Funding-Insights">VCCEdge Start-up Funding Insights</keyword>’ from <keyword id="3591499" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="News-Corp-VCCircle">News Corp VCCircle</keyword>, which focuses on the funding activity in the National Capital Region (NCR), NCR has witnessed 873 funding deals to the tune of $1,571 million of the total $6,721 million across 3,682 deals ever since 2011. This represents 24% of the total number of deals and 23% of the total deal value. 
 
Last year, however, was a landmark year registering a deal value of $608 million as compared to the $289 million in 2014, but at the going rate, looks like 2016 won’t be able to match this amount, let alone match last year’s performance. The number of deals also swelled 110%, going from 143 in 2014 to 300 in 2015. 
 
Talking of this year, 2016 has until now seen 155 deals worth $170 million, out of which the investment of $17.19 million made by Sequoia Capital India, Omidyar Network India, Maverick Capital, and HBM Partners in the Gurgaon based Healthcare Start-up, 1MG Technologies grabbed the top rank. 
 
On the other hand, online gaming company Gamooz Interactive Solutions’ funding to the tune of $15 million made by angel investors such as Taha Nabee, Anupam Gopal Mittal, Anand Kumar Ladsariya, Devesh Ghanshyam Chawla, Suneel Bandhu and Miten Mehta can be counted as the top Angel/Seed funding deal. 
 
Here are the segment-wise highlights since 2011: 
 
• Food-Tech got the maximum number of deals, having 50 investments worth $28 million 
 
• Travel-techn saw maximum fund flows, bringing in $80 million across 46 deals 
 
• Fin-Tech came second in terms of value and fourth in terms of number of deals, closing 34 investments amounting to $70 million 
 
• Edu-tech space attracted $36 million from 39 deals 
 
• Tech-enabled platforms across other segments such as advertising, real estate, health, and entertainment saw $55 million of funding from 73 deals 
 
However, there has been a fall in the pace of Series A rounds of investment and beyond, which is bound to affect start-ups in the “High-Growth-High-Burn” mode. 
 
“The question we need to ask is whether or not the current startup ecosystem in the region lacks enough high quality startups eligible for Series A &amp; beyond round of investments. The slowdown is attributed to investor pragmatism and selectiveness in funding enterprises that have business models that best optimize the funding they receive. Start-ups have to, perforce, ‘Conserve and Grow, or Perish’. NCR start-ups are facing funding crunch; attract $170 million in 2016

A day earlier, the IMF in its World Economic Outlook had forecast India's growth rate to be 1.9 per cent in 2020. "India entered the pandemic turmoil in the midst of a credit crunch-induced slowdown and its recovery prospect becomes more uncertain," Chang Yong Rhee, the Director of the IMF's Asia and <keyword id="313465" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pacific-Department">Pacific Department</keyword>, told reporters during a news conference here. "Despite the economic slowdown, the government implemented a nationwide lockdown and we support India's proactive decision," Rhee said. On March 25, India entered a three-week lockdown, which was slated to end on April 14. The lockdown was extended till May 3. The impact of the coronavirus on the Asia-Pacific region will be severe, across the board, and unprecedented, he said, adding that Asia's growth in 2020 will come to a standstill. This is worse than the annual average growth rates throughout the Global Financial Crisis (4.7 percent) or the Asian Financial Crisis (1.3 percent). Actually, Asia has not experienced zero growth in the last 60 years, he said. "That said, Asia's growth still fares better than other regions." For 2021, he said, there is hope. If containment policies succeed there could be a rebound in growth, he said. However, it is highly uncertain how this year will progress, he added. Noting that this is not a time for business as usual, Rhee said that Asian countries need to use all policy instruments in their toolkits. In doing so, policy tradeoffs will be inevitable and will depend on policy space, he added. China is expected to grow by 1.2 percent in 2020. The revisions to growth reflect both losses of domestic activity due to the social distancing measures, as well as loss of external demand. "We expect a rebound in economic activity later this year. This is because China is emerging from the outbreak first. Nonetheless, there are clear risks: the virus could come back and normalization could take longer," Rhee said. <keyword id="6355311" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="japan">Japan</keyword>'s economic outlook for 2020 has deteriorated significantly, he said. Real GDP in Japan is expected to decline by 5.2 percent, caused by the coronavirus impact, and a sharp deterioration of external demand, he said, adding <keyword id="5565" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="South-Korea">South Korea</keyword>'s growth in 2020 is anticipate to be at -1.2 percent, he said. Spelling out a set of recommendations for the countries in the Asia-Pacific region, Rhee said the first priority is to support and protect the health sector to contain the virus and introduce measures that slow contagion. "If there is not enough fiscal space, countries will need to re-prioritize from other expenditures," he said. Noting that containment measures are severely affecting economies, he said targeted support to hardest-hit households and firms is needed. This is a real economic shock unlike the Global Financial Crisis. Protect people, jobs and industries directly, not just through financial institutions, he said. Observing that the pandemic is also affecting the financial market functioning, he urged countries to use monetary and macroprudential regulations flexibly to provide ample liquidity, ease financial stress of industries and SMEs. "For emerging markets with limited fiscal space, they might need to consider how to use central bank balance sheets flexibly to help SMEs through risk sharing with the government," he said. Asserting that external pressures need to be contained, he said that countries should seek and utilize bilateral and multilateral swap lines and financial support from the multilateral institutions. "There can be a role for capital flow measures to secure external sector stability as a prerequisite to use more aggressive domestic policies to prevent lasting social and economic distress," he said. "Targeted support combined with domestic demand stimulus in a recovery will help to reduce scarring, but it needs to reach people and smaller firms." IMF backs India's 'proactive' lockdown decision despite economic cost

The shares of Bajaj Finserv reached its one year high of ₹16,584. The company had filed the application on September 28, 2020 to market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). Bajaj Finance is the subsidiary of Bajaj Finserv. “The Company would be setting up an asset management company and the trustee company, directly or indirectly i.e., itself or through its subsidiary in accordance with applicable SEBI Regulations and other applicable laws,” said Bajaj Finserv in an exchange filing. Another financial services company Zerodha is also waiting for the regulator’s nod to launch a mutual fund business. Frontline Capital Services, Wizemarkets Analytics, Unifi Capital, Alchemy Capital Management and Helios Capital Management are some other companies in line waiting for SEBI’s approval. However, the SEC will be relatively lenient when it comes to timing. If an advisor posts "something misleading" and it's not deleted "30 seconds after," it's not a huge issue. The bigger problem, according to Gordon, is when advisors keep up intentionally misleading posts up for weeks.

New Delhi, May 28 (IANS) India's East Mojo and Minnambalam are among 5,300 small and medium local newsrooms around the world that will receive emergency funding from Google ranging from $5,000-$30,000 (approximately Rs 3.7 lakh-Rs 22.7 lakh), the search engine giant said on Thursday. East Mojo, a digital-only news organisation, said it plans to use the fund to allow journalists to go to remote parts of Northern India to shed light on the impact of Covid-19 once the country's lockdown is lifted. Minnambalam (India), a Tamil language publication from Chennai, said the funding gave them the confidence and financial support needed to carry on with their work. Covid-19 has upended the news industry, hitting local news particularly hard with job losses, furloughs, cutbacks and even closure. To provide some help, the Google News Initiative last month launched the Journalism Emergency Relief Fund. "Applications covering a number of publications under one organization will be capped at $85,000," Ludovic Blecher, Head of Google News Initiative Innovation, wrote in a blog post. "As we await a final funding tally, we expect to spend tens of millions of dollars through the Journalism Emergency Relief Fund," Blecher said. Google said in just two weeks it received more than 12,000 applications from 140 eligible countries, with 90 per cent of those applications from newsrooms of less than 26 journalists. "We reviewed each application against a set of criteria: publications operating locally, serving a specific geographic community and using the money to continue doing so," Blecher said. --IANS gb/na

Apart from the injection from LIC, IL&amp;FS plans to raise an additional ₹45-₹50 billion by divesting and liquidating assets. IL&amp;FS is offloading a majority stake in its financial services subsidiary, IL&amp;FS Financial Services, which earned nearly ₹1 billion in profits in the previous financial year. It has hired SBI’s investment banking division to broker the sale. However, demand for a majority stake in IL&amp;FS Financial Services is expected to be muted since the unit has defaulted on a number of loans and has significant cash flow problems owing to cost overruns, delayed project approvals and contract disputes. Earlier this month, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) placed a ban on the financial service unit’s <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/companies/curbs-on-il-fs-financial-s-access-to-commercial-paper-till-feb-2019-118090600687_1.html">access to commercial paper</a>, or additional unsecured, short-term debt, until February 2019 after it failed to meet its commercial paper obligations at the end of August. In addition, the RBI gave IL&amp;FS Financial Services to reduce its debt exposure to all IL&amp;FS subsidiaries by March 2019. <keyword id="43550" type="EVENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bankruptcy">Bankruptcy</keyword> risk IL&amp;FS, which had around ₹910 billion in outstanding debt at the end of March 2018, is in a race against time to avoid bankruptcy as a number of debt obligations are about to mature. It is currently seeking ₹160 billion in outstanding dues from the Indian government for work it has completed. Given IL&amp;FS’s status as “systemically important”, it is in the government’s best interest to prevent the infrastructure lender’s bankruptcy. If IL&amp;FS fails, a lot of creditors will not be able to recover their loans, which will exacerbate the bad loan crisis. Furthermore, the bankruptcy of IL&amp;FS will slow down the central government’s infrastructure push. The shareholders of the company, which include LIC, HDFC and SBI, will only be confident about investing more money into it once it demonstrates an ability to turn its operations around. IL&amp;FS’s shareholders are expected to vote on LIC’s proposed bailout plan at the end of the month.
