Only 27% of the key executive positions in the mission to Mars were held by female scientists while Mission Mangal’s trailer only shows one senior male scientist on a team dominated by women. Some people are <a href="https://www.shethepeople.tv/blog/film-mission-mangal-poster-vidya-balan">calling out</a> Kumar for using feminism as a ploy to sell more tickets to his movies rather than actually tell the story for what it was. Mission Mangal belongs to the ladies When the movie’s poster was launched it faced some criticism for giving Kumar a bigger display and then female actors.

 The teaser in the tweet highlights women being ‘determined’, ‘fearless’ and ‘inspiring’ but speaks of attributes that define Hindu married woman like sindoor and mangalsutra. Twitter users have pointed out that it’s all too common to see Bollywood — even Hollywood for that matter — using feminism as nothing more than a marketing tool to inadvertently serve the patriarchal interests of the film industry. But others states that the problem could lie with the audience that needs to be sold a movie that has a strong male lead because of fears that an entirely female led cast might bomb at the box office. How stars like Neena Gupta, Zeenat Aman & Shefali Shah finally found their place in the sun via OTT

He managed to gross $65 million to take the 33rd spot. Forbes says that Akshay Kumar — one of the top earning stars in Bollywood — makes at least $5 million from a film, which can go as high as $10 million. The 51-year-old actor has beaten many Hollywood biggies like Rihanna, Kevin Hart, Jackie Chan, Bradley Cooper, Scarlett Johansson among others. Interestingly, Iron Man Robert Downey Jr is ahead of him by just $1 million, as he earned $66 million. The highest paid actor is Taylor Swift who made as much as $185 million, followed by Kylie Jenner who grossed $170 million. Kanye West, Lionel Messi and Ed Sheeren have taken up the third, fourth and fifth spots. Equality Problem Taylor Swift and Kylie Jenner dominate the list. Yet, only 16 women who are featured in the list of top 100 celebrities. In fact, no female actor from India is featured in the list, pointing towards a serious pay scale difference in the film industry.

<ul><li>The government has constituted a group of ministers (GoM) to deal efficiently with the <keyword id="16048" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="sexual-harassment">sexual harassment</keyword> cases at the workplace. </li><li>The GoM will evaluate the existing sexual harassment laws within a stipulated time frame of three months. </li><li>Rajnath Singh-led GoM includes three more members - Maneka Gandhi, Nitin Gadkari and Nirmala Sitharaman </li></ul>The <keyword id="5901457" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="MeToo">#Metoo</keyword> movement that provoked a war against sexual harassment cases at the workplace has now led the central government to examine the institutional framework by creating a group of ministers (GoM). Contrary to the earlier buzz of having senior women cabinet ministers as members, it was decided that the group will be headed by Home Minister <keyword id="6355121" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajnath-Singh">Rajnath Singh</keyword>. The other members of GoM include Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi and Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. In the light of the complaints lodged by women through social media, the GoM will be working to implement the existing legal framework effectively. It also aims to assess the laws against sexual harassment at the workplace within three months. The GoM proposal was made following the decision of women and child development ministry to form a panel to scrutinise the after-effects of the #Metoo movement which turned into an open dialogue on social media. The #Metoo movement has gathered much attention from people across India with many women coming forward to reveal sexual predators at workplaces. But the movement also revealed that a lot of cases are still unheard. The government, in order to curb such cases, has launched an electronic complaint system called the ‘<keyword id="4803306" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="She-box">She Box</keyword>’. The complaint box will send the matters to the respective authorities as soon as an accusation is put down by a victim. The #Metoo campaign gained momentum soon after a dozen female journalist supported the movement incepted by Bollywood actor, Tanushree Dutta who accused actor Nana Patekar of harassing her during a shoot in 2008. Besides pushing a number of people to step down from their posts, the campaign has also forced the Minister of State for External Affairs MJ Akbar to put down his papers days after several of his former female colleagues accused him of sexual harassment. This is not the first panel that the government has formed to firefight a situation, and much like all its predecessors, the odds are that this too might fall flat.

It found that 63% of India’s leading Instagram influencers operate in the entertainment category, while its subsets – sports, lifestyle, cinema, and actors – gained the maximum traction in 2020. According to the data mapped, power couple Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma are currently enjoying royalty status as influencers. While cricketing sensation Kohli has the highest number of followers at 83.7 million, Bollywood queen Anushka boasts of the greatest engagement rate in the country, surpassing even PM Narendra Modi. Others on the list of top 10 Instagram influencers are Shraddha Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Neha Kakkar, Jaqueline Fernandez, Akshay Kumar, and Katrina Kaif. Amongst numerous noteworthy findings, the platform also found that a majority of the top 1000 influencers in India were women. In fact, women rule the top 1K Instagram influencers and beat men by almost 50% more in numbers. Further, the total unduplicated reach of all women Instagram influencers was found to be a whopping 1700 million, while that of men was 1200 million. While both men and women drive 82% quality engagement, men drive a slightly better engagement rate at 5% as compared to 4% for women. As women rule the roost as Instagram influencers in India, ClanConnect.ai delved deeper to find the top 10 female Instagram-stars of 2020. While Shraddha Kapoor bagged the title of most popular female Instagram Influencer with 57.2 million followers, Deepika Padukone followed close with 52.4 million. Neha Kakkar, betting big on her brilliant wedding Reels, posts and anthem, emerged as the fourth largest female Instagram Influencer in India. Again, Anushka Sharma drives the highest engagement at 6.7% with 3% being the average for the top 10 female Influencers. Cumulative reach for top 10 female influencers was clocked at 452 million, with the quality audience being 388 million at 84% average. In the male influencer category, Virat Kohli is much ahead of his counterparts on the top 10 list with a whopping 83.7 million followers. Surprisingly, however, he was thwarted in terms of engagement by MS Dhoni who boasts an engagement rate of 10.98% as opposed to Kohli’s 1.84%. With 50 million followers, PM Narendra Modi is the second most popular Instagram influencer in India, with Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Ranveer Singh, Varun Dhawan, Hrithik Roshan, MS Dhoni, Shahid Kapoor, and Kapil Sharma also topping the charts. It is worth noting that the top two male influencers do not hail from Bollywood. The platform also found that food influencers enjoy the highest quality engagement at 88% while education, finance, and career influencers cumulatively receive 85%. As far as the most engaging influencers are concerned, the list was topped by Ronit Ashra (32.92%), Dhanashree (24.69%), and Ratan Tata (22.83%). The first allegation was leveled against <keyword id="1351295" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Utsav-Chakraborty">Utsav Chakraborty</keyword>, a member of a popular comedy group called <keyword id="6468924" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="all-india-bakchod">All India Bakchod</keyword> (<keyword id="1875393" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="AIB">AIB</keyword>). A female comedian accused him of sending her pictures of his genitalia without consent. Soon enough, other women stepped up to corroborate her account with their own incidences where the comedian has either asked them for naked photos or sent them inappropriate pictures of himself. It’s been three days and #MeToo movement has hit comedians, reporters, authors, actors and filmmakers. More importantly, and finally, it seems to have spurred some actual action and change. Impact so far While India’s #MeToo movement has been pushing a lot of important men from their positions in their respective industries, it is also witnessing people retaliating by filing defamation lawsuits against women. Some tweets have already started to disappear from the social messaging platform. In Bollywood, Vikas Bahl, one of the founders of Phantom Films, was accused of forcing himself upon one of the members of the crew and subsequently masturbating in front of her.  While these allegations are being addressed, there’s a parallel conversation about as to what counts as ‘consent’. Encounters range from ones that are downright creepy to those that included suggestive text messages, unwanted sexual advances and assault. All this has thrown the debate open wider - while some caution against judging anyone’s experience, others have been propagating that there should be a stricter definition of consent. But India’s #MeToo movement is far from over, there are new names and allegations surfacing every day. And honestly, if you ask us, this was a long time coming.
