The 26th report of the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team concerning ISIL, al-Qaida and associated individuals and entities said that in April and May, the Afghan special forces conducted a series of countrywide operations and arrested the head of the ISIL-K Aslam <keyword id="238825" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Farooqi">Farooqi</keyword> (also known as Abdullah Orokzai) and his predecessor <keyword id="258473" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zia-ul-Haq">Zia ul-Haq</keyword> (also known as Abu Omar Khorasani) and others. Farooqi, who hails from Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is the mastermind behind the deadly terror attack on a prominent gurudwara in Kabul in March that killed 25 Sikhs. He is not blacklisted by the UN Security Council's 1267 al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee. Similarly, Haq is also a Pakistani national and has not been blacklisted yet. Al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) operates under the Taliban umbrella from Afghanistan's Nimruz, Helmand and Kandahar provinces and its current leader is Pakistan-born Osama Mahmood, who is also "not listed" under the UNSC sanctions. Mahmood succeeded <keyword id="2502994" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Asim-Umar">Asim Umar</keyword>. The report said that the group reportedly has between 150 and 200 members from Bangladesh, India, <keyword id="6356970" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="myanmar">Myanmar</keyword> and Pakistan and "is reportedly planning retaliation operations in the region to avenge the death of its former leader." The Sanctions Monitoring Team report said that the "large terrorist group present in Afghanistan" Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is led by Amir Noor Wali Mehsud. Pakistan-born Mehsud was designated a global terrorist by the UNSC sanctions committee only this month, more than two years after he was named the TTP leader, following the death of former TTP head Maulana Fazlullah. Mehsud is supported by his deputy Qari Amjad and TTP spokesperson Mohammad Khorasani, both not listed under the UNSC sanctions. This demonstrates that the Pakistani nationals operate at leadership levels in the terror organisations and point to the terror groups' Pakistani links. Experts say the billionaire's dream isn't as far-fetched as it may seem."I don't think it is any more implausible than other claims for the potential of neurotechnology," Professor Andrew Jackson, an expert in neural interfaces at Newcastle University, told Insider.Musk made the suggestion in a TED <a href="https://youtu.be/YRvf00NooN8?t=1988">interview</a> on April 14, thereby adding "morbid obesity" to a growing list of ailments he believes Neuralink could help treat.Experts interviewed by Insider said a commercially-available obesity-busting brain chip was a long way off but the concept was promising if backed by the right <keyword id="11896083" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="science" source="Orion">science</keyword>.<h2>A brain implant to lose weight?</h2>Founded by Musk in 2016, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/neuralink-elon-musk-microchips-brains-ai-2021-2?r=US&amp;IR=T">Neuralink</a> is developing a microchip that's implanted into a person's skull. Tiny wires equipped with electrodes fan out from the device into the brain, allowing it to read and potentially stimulate brain activity.Musk has previously named a wide range of neurological disorders he believes Neuralink could treat, including Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases. He's also made far-fetched claims about the chip potentially <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-said-neuralink-could-solve-autism-and-schizophrenia-2019-11?r=US&amp;IR=T">"solving autism"</a> and creating "symbiosis" between humans and artificial intelligence.Beyond Musk's comments in his recent TED interview, there's no further information about how Neuralink could help tackle obesity.Broadly, though, the concept is feasible, Sadaf Farooqi, a professor of metabolism and medicine at the University of Cambridge, said."We and others have shown that in some people with severe obesity, it's the function of a particular brain region, the hypothalamus, that's really driving often an increase in appetite," she said.The hypothalamus is a gland nestled in the center of the brain that has a vital role in the control of hormone production."If you could find a way to target that particular region and even those particular neurons that drive appetite, then in theory, a drug or a technology that did that could improve the lives of patients," Farooqi said.A brain implant would also be arguably less invasive than other treatments for morbid obesity, Newcastle University's Jackson said. Some of these treatments involve changing the shape and function of a patient's digestive system.<h2>Early tests yield mixed results</h2>Some researchers are so confident in brain implant technology that they've moved to early proof-of-concept trials on humans – which have garnered mixed results.<a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29538761/">One trial involving six people</a> with morbid obesity – defined in the study as a body-mass index above 40 – involved a brain implant that transmitted frequent electric pulses to the hypothalamus. <a href="https://elemental.medium.com/shocking-the-brain-to-treat-the-stomach-ec0b83f4b9b9">According to Elemental</a>, one participant lost more than 100 pounds, three lost a little weight but not a substantial amount, and the other two lost no weight at all. <a href="https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01933113?term=deep+brain+stimulation&amp;cond=Obesity&amp;cntry=US">In a separate but similar trial</a>, <a href="https://elemental.medium.com/shocking-the-brain-to-treat-the-stomach-ec0b83f4b9b9">according to Elemental</a>, only one of three participants lost weight. Another small trial <a href="https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03868670?term=Casey+Halpern&amp;cond=Obesity%2C+Morbid&amp;draw=2&amp;rank=1">is ongoing</a>."I would say that these trials are very much at the kind of leading-edge," Farooqi said. "As a result, they probably have not been that informative." "But the fact that they have gone ahead and that there has been a bit of benefit for some people I think is encouraging."<h2>Treating the symptoms or the cause</h2>Francesco Rubino, chair of metabolic surgery at King's College London, said brain implant technology was promising but a chip focussing solely on appetite reduction would likely be "set to fail.""Anything we have tried until now that was based on that assumption has not been working," he said.New research suggests it's not only the way people eat that makes them overweight. It could also be that the body doesn't regulate weight properly by burning available fat for energy, Rubino said. "It's like having a tank full of fuel, but having some sort of dysfunction so the fuel cannot be utilized efficiently."If you could find the trigger of the disease and target that with an implant, you could cut the problem at the source, Rubino said.A brain chip that can effectively fight obesity is likely a long way off. Neuralink, for one, has <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-neuralink-hopes-to-start-human-testing-2022-2021-12?r=US&amp;IR=T">yet to receive approval for human testing</a> and Musk said in his TED interview that once the company can begin implanting chips in brains, it will focus on brain and spinal injuries for "probably a decade."Newcastle's Jackson said that as with many of Neuralink's claims, "there is still quite a lot of science that would be needed, alongside the technology development, to deliver this as a therapy."

The Sunni Central <keyword id="6410560" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="waqf">Waqf</keyword> Board on Tuesday decided that it will not file a review petition against the Supreme Court's verdict on the <keyword id="186591" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ayodhya-dispute">Ayodhya dispute</keyword>, its chairman Zufar Farooqi said. The important meeting of the board, attended by seven of the eight members, decided not to file a review petition against the apex court's decision, he said. Six members present were of the view that review petition should not be filed, Farooqi said. He said the board was yet to decide whether to accept a five-acre land given by the apex court for building a mosque in <keyword id="6354931" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ayodhya">Ayodhya</keyword>. The members feel that they need more time to decide on the matter and also ensure that it is appropriate as per the Shariat, Farooqi said. The Supreme Court, in its verdict in the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi title case on November 9, said the entire 2.77 acres of disputed land should be handed over to the deity Ram Lalla, who was one of the three litigants in the case.

<h2>BI Answers: Why do people gain weight, and how can it be avoided?</h2>
Being overweight is <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24165305">a known predictor of diabetes</a>, and keeping excess pounds off seems like it should be straightforward: Eat less. Exercise more. Enjoy your svelte physique.
But if it's really so easy, why are <a href="http://win.niddk.nih.gov/statistics/">more than two-thirds of American adults overweight</a>? The answer is that such advice, while technically correct, glosses over many layers of nuance. People have different physiologies and <a href="http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2014/08/rich-people-exercise-poor-people-take-diet-pills/378852/">different resources</a> and respond to food and exercise in different ways.
For some, weight gain is <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24251706">a direct result of certain medications or illnesses</a>. For most everyone else, it's many things.
<h3>More complex than we are told</h3>
"On a very simple level, your weight depends on the number of calories you consume, how many of those calories you store, and how many you burn up," explains <a href="http://www.health.harvard.edu/newsweek/Why-people-become-overweight.htm">a publication from Harvard Medical School</a>. "But each of these factors is influenced by a combination of genes and environment."
In other words, the most basic equation to understand weight gain is that people gain weight when they consume more calories than they burn - those extra calories get stored as fat. But scientists have found many connections between someone's risk of weight gain and a wide variety of other factors, including his or her genetic makeup, diet in infancy and childhood, sleep habits, stress levels, and gut bacteria.
In the past decade, there have been a slew of studies suggesting that the calories-in/calories-out theory of weight gain is an oversimplification.
<h3>Many risk factors</h3>
Research has found, for example, that <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21784678">when children don't sleep enough, they consistently gain weight</a>. (The connection is strongly suspected but less clear in adults.)
A hypothesis picking up steam, as researcher James Hollis <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16188173">wrote in 2005</a>, is that "although in theoretical terms a calorie is a calorie, in practice this is not the case," and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/r-low-carb-diets-may-beat-low-fat-options-for-weight-loss-heart-health-2014-9">low-carb diets seem to be more effective than others</a>.
We haven't yet figured out the exact <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22191449">relationship between obesity risk and gut bacteria</a>, but animal studies suggest that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/probiotics-can-make-you-skinny-and-happy-2014-6">a healthier microbiome</a> might be a factor outside of diet and exercise that keeps body weight in check (or not).
Some researchers have also suggested the idea of a "set point," a default weight that makes <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23126426">lasting weight loss difficult</a> in adults, but <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2990627/?report=classic">that may be more of a range than previously believed</a> - and potentially thrown off by the Western diet.
Still, the genetic component of obesity <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24240285">seems to be strong</a>, though researchers have had some false starts as they <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22584455">work out the details</a>. "If both of your parents have obesity, your likelihood of developing obesity is as high as 80%," Harvard Health <a href="http://www.health.harvard.edu/newsweek/Why-people-become-overweight.htm">notes</a>. That's just one indication that some people may be born with the odds stacked against them. As with most genetic risk factors, there's nothing suggesting that someone is destined to be overweight, except in the rarest of circumstances. But for some, the risk is much higher than others.
"Although environmental factors have driven the recent rise in the prevalence of obesity, the heritability of body weight is high," wrote University of Cambridge scientist Sadaf Farooqi, in <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21391993">a 2011 review of the research</a>. "There is evidence that genetic variation plays a major role in determining the susceptibility to weight gain."
Still, as Farooqi noted, "environmental factors" are still seen as the primary culprit. People <a href="http://www.health.harvard.edu/newsweek/Why-people-become-overweight.htm">buy more food than they used to</a> and rates of physical activity have gone down. "Searching for the genetic background of excess weight gain in a world of abundance is misleading since the possible biological control is widely overshadowed by the effect of the environment," <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2990627/?report=classic">argued researchers in a 2010 paper</a>.
<h3>What can be done</h3>
One thing is certain: For most people, losing weight and keeping it off is hard. <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24237928">One 2013 review</a> of 22 weight-loss studies involving 480,142 people pointed to some interventions that might work but ultimately concluded that "the strength of evidence is low for all strategies."
All that said, if you are trying to lose weight, don't despair. A good first step? Talk to your doctor. A primary care physician can help you figure out if there is a medical condition that makes you more susceptible to weight gain. Your doctor can also review the strategies that make the most sense for your lifestyle and health profile, which may involve <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-lose-weight-2014-6">eating less processed food</a>, consuming smaller portions, trying <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/r-low-carb-diets-may-beat-low-fat-options-for-weight-loss-heart-health-2014-9">a low-carb diet</a>, using cognitive behavioral therapy, or working more physical activity into your life. Dietitian-provided weight-loss counseling has also been <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23101456">shown to be effective</a>, so ask your doctor for a referral.
To treat obesity, not just excess weight, <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24438739">some doctors may recommend</a> prescription weight loss drugs or bariatric surgery, though neither work perfectly and both come with risks. Earlier this year, <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24172297">a review of 20 weight-loss studies</a> found that after an initial very-low-calorie diet, prescription drugs, meal replacements, and high-protein diets were the most effective way to keep the weight off.
The simplest advice - eat less, exercise more - isn't wrong, but for many people, it's just not that simple.
Not everyone needs to or wants to lose weight. But if excess weight is affecting your health and the simple strategies have not worked, don't turn to fads or extremes. Instead, bring a doctor or a dietitian into the conversation, and go from there.
