Yoga guru Ramdev, whose company <keyword id="6356684" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="patanjali">Patanjali</keyword> has been asked to send several of its consumer products for quality tests, has claimed that global consumer goods conspired against Patanjali by getting fake and adulterated products tested in laboratories for irregular results. 
 
Ramdev said that these companies are afraid of Patanjali winning over the customers and taking a major part of the market share. 
 
"Multinational firms like Hindustan Unilever, Colgate and Nestle are bribing people to get fake and adulterated Patanjali products tested in labs," said Ramdev at a press briefing. "Sometimes they even produce reports from fake laboratories to malign us." 
 
While Nestle, the transnational food and beverage company headquartered in Switzerland and having operations in India, has denied the accusation, Colgate-Palmolive has refused to comment on the charges. 
 
"Patanjali has become the point of discussion in the boardrooms of MNCs," Ramdev further stated. 
 
Patanjali, which paid all its pending debts last year, will be posting sales of Rs 5,000 crore next year, because of growth in the food, cosmetic and ayurvedic product categories. 
 
The brand is rapidly becoming a contender in the consumer goods space, and will soon be increasing its infrastructure by four times. 
 
The aggressive marketing strategy adopted by the company is also responsible for the growth. As per the data of the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), it became one of the top three most-advertised brands on television in November, while hiring yesteryear actress Hema Malini as the brand ambassador for some of its products.

The birds in Nestle's nest (logo) will also fly away." 
 
His confidence has come because of Patanjali achieving the 5000 crore mark, and successfully <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Indias-herbal-market-has-got-a-new-life/articleshow/51104012.cms">bringing Ayurveda back</a> into the daily lives of Indians, just the way he had brought Yoga back to the its country of origin many years ago. 
 
And now, Patanjali is all set to overpower traditional FMCG biggies like <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Patanjali-takes-over-the-entire-Ayurveda-industry/articleshow/51453997.cms">Hindustan Unilever, Nestle, Marico and Dabur</a>, and we say this basis data and records.

"There is a natural feeling that these products are good and the price points are lower compared with the premium products available in the market. There is a great product out there and their distribution and packaging are pretty good," he said. 
 
One might be forced to think that the success of this 10-year old FMCG firm is just because of Baba's charm. Raamdeo Agrawal, Co-Founder &amp; Joint MD of MOFSL, says, "It will definitely <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/BabaRamdevs-Patanjali-is-already-spelling-doom-for-this-global-brand-in-India/articleshow/51303845.cms">take away market shares</a> in some segments. They have a segment where they will thrive. So it is a marketing challenge for the rest of the pack, be it <keyword id="6365619" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hindustan-UniLever">Hindustan Unilever</keyword> or Colgate or <keyword id="40233" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="emami">Emami</keyword>, whosoever is hurt by Patanjali products." However, he also added that, "Patanjali will have some challenges coming in later on product superiority, because one needs to see whether product superiority or just the blind faith in Baba Ramdev's brand equity is driving them" 
 
Some, however, are of the view that the market is big enough for the competitors to survive. "Clearly, Patanjali is making inroads, but that does not mean the Unilevers of the world will fade away. They are astute. They have excellent marketing. They will come out with different products. They will come out with different prices," Pradip P Shah of IndAsia Fund Advisors told ET.

New Delhi, Apr 30 () Market insight firm Nielsen has slashed the growth forecast for FMCG sector by almost half to 5 to 6 per cent for 2020, citing impact of coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdown. Earlier, on January 21 , Nielsen had projected the FMCG industry's growth forecast of around 9 to 10 per cent for 2020, with a "stable" outlook on the back of favourable several macroeconomic factors. Revising its outlook, Nielsen - which follows January to December calendar - said the sector will have to face several macro-economic challenges such as lower GDP growth rate, rise in number of unemployment besides impact of the pandemic."Given the significant headwind built in the start of COVID-19 pandemic in March'20, Nielsen revises the Full Year Industry growth forecast for 2020 to mid single digits (5-6 per cent)," the firm said in a report.FMCG growth for Q1 20 (January-March) stands at 6.3 per cent against the Nielsen forecast of 8-9 per cent, and this quarter is turning out to be the lowest first quarter in the past three years, it added.Going forward, Nielsen said, "We expect FMCG industry growth for the second half (July-December) of 2020 to be in the range of 5-6 per cent, marginally higher than H1 2020".According to Nielsen, the FMCG sector witnessed an average growth of 7.5 per cent in January and February, however, March was impacted due to uncertainties around COVID-19 and subsequent lockdown.In March, volumes grew by a mere 0.5 per cent, while the sector clocked value growth of 4 per cent.While in the first quarter, 6.3 per cent growth of FMCG, traditional channels as kirana and neighbourhood stores had 3.3 per cent growth, while the modern trade and e-commerce had contributed 1.9 per cent and 1.1 per cent growth, respectively.In the corresponding quarter in 2019, FMCG sector has reported 13.8 per cent growth in which 12 per cent growth was from the traditional channels, and modern trade and e-commerce had contributed only 1.2 per cent and 0.6 per cent.More drastic changes were observed in the metro markets, where out of 7.4 per cent growth in January-March, tradition channel contributed only 0.4 per cent. Lockdown: Nielsen slashes FMCG growth forecast by half to 5-6 pc for 2020

New Delhi, Apr 12 () Ahead of extending restrictions on the mobility of goods and persons, the government plans to set up a chain of 20 lakh retail shops called 'Suraksha Stores' across India which will provide daily essentials to citizens while maintaining stringent safety norms. The Suraksha Stores initiative will convert the neighbourhood kirana stores into sanitised retail outlets selling daily essentials while adhering to safety norms such as social distancing and sanitisation to control the spread of the novel coronavirus, sources with direct knowledge of the development said. The government will rope in private firms to implement this plan, which seeks to ensure that proper protocol is followed in the entire supply chain, right from manufacturing units to retail outlets, to combat COVID-19. Consumer Affairs Secretary Pawan Kumar Agarwal has held at least one round of discussions with the top FMCG companies to implement this ambitious plan through public private partnership, the sources said. The government is targeting to earmark 20 lakh retail outlets as 'Suraksha Stores' over the next 45 days. Each FMCG company might be given one or two states to execute this plan in an effective manner and enable every store to fight coronavirus. When contacted, Agarwal said the government is "working" on the 'Suraksha Store' plan but declined to share any detail. To become a 'Suraksha Store', a retail store will have to comply with a health and safety checklist, which includes social distancing of 1.5 metres outside the shop as well as billing counters, use of sanitiser or handwash by consumers before entering shops, provision of masks to all staff and sanitisation of high touch areas twice a day. The 'Suraksha Store' will not only be for groceries but also consumer durables, apparel and salons. A top official at a leading FMCG firm confirmed the development. "The government is planning to create Suraksha Store and Suraksha Circle to ensure hygiene and safety norms across the supply chain. More than 50 top FMCG companies have been approached. We are with the government and we have already given our approval to actively participate in this exercise," said the official, who wished not to be identified. FMCG companies will be asked to provide training and mobilise health kits (masks, gloves and sanitisers) to enable retail outlets to become 'Suraksha Stores', the official said, adding that big industries would similarly help wholesalers and other smaller units. As per the plan, each retail outlet will have to prominently display that it is a 'Suraksha Store' to customers. Educational posters related to hygiene and safety should also be displayed in the store. Similarly, the Consumer Affairs Ministry is working on creating 'Suraksha Circle' where lead manufacturing plants will help their business partners and smaller factories in their vicinity in order to ensure a safe environment across the product supply chain. Each lead manufacturing plant is expected to adopt 10 SMEs (small and medium enterprises) and one village in order to achieve the target to bring 50,000 SMEs and 5,000 communities under Suraksha Circle. According to the plan, an online training certification programme will be created for Suraksha Stores and Suraksha Circle to ensure awareness about COVID-19 protocols for the supply of essential commodities as per the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). COVID-19: 'Suraksha Stores' to meet daily needs on anvil

<ul><li>Globally, a third of FMCG businesses said their most successful influencer campaign increased sales by $250,000-$500,000.</li><li>Nearly half of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies will spend up to 50% of their marketing budget on <keyword id="3361533" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Social-Media-Influencers">social media influencers</keyword> post-COVID-19.</li><li>Less than a third of FMCG firms (27%) use third-party influencer verification services.</li></ul>According to a report released today by Duff &amp; Phelps and Kroll, 25% of companies have suffered a $100,000-$250,000 loss from a negative influencer experience. The Face Value Report highlights results of a survey of over 900 marketing and brand managers within the FMCG sector and provides insights into the value of <keyword id="2540701" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Influencer-marketing">influencer marketing</keyword>, as well as the financial and reputational impact of negative influencer experiences. Consumer devotion to digital devices during the pandemic has supercharged the influencer industry. During lockdown, two-thirds of <keyword id="84065" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="FMCG-companies">FMCG companies</keyword> have either maintained their influencer spending at pre-COVID-19 levels or increased it slightly, while nearly a fifth (19%) upped it significantly. By 2021, nearly half of FMCG companies (46%) expect to spend 31-50% of their total marketing budget on influencers—up one-fifth compared to the average spent between 2018-2020—while nearly one in 10 (8%)will spend more than 70%. Clear winners across countries emerge when comparing how much companies make from their influencer campaigns against what they spend running them. The average amount spent per influencer among FMCG companies globally is $22,151 per year. However, the UK spends on average $18,602 and boasts a high sales increase to expense ratio at 73%--comfortably above the ‘all countries’ average of 46%. FMCG companies will typically spread their spending across dozens of influencers; 45% of companies stated they usually work with 51-100 at a time, and this could rise as the influencer method of marketing becomes more entrenched. UK companies appear to use the fewest number of influencers than other countries at around 66, compared to the global average of 81. Michael Weaver, Managing Director Valuation Advisory Services at Duff &amp; Phelps, said, “Marketing teams once relied on securing the most expensive celebrity they could afford for a television campaign or billboard, but this strategy is increasingly obsolete in the digital age. FMCG companies are satisfied with the return on investment from influencers and are diverting marketing spend away from other traditional advertising and marketing tactics to keep the momentum going. We can’t deny that the lockdown and subsequent restriction measures have also played a part in boosting the industry. But regardless, we don’t expect influencer marketing to slow down post-COVID-19 either.” Influencer marketing also comes with certain risks—85% of FMCG companies have had their brand negatively impacted due to an association with an influencer, with almost a quarter (24%) of these companies claiming to have been adversely affected multiple times. Shockingly, 25% of FMCG companies report losses between $100,00-$250,000 from a negative influencer experience. The survey found that over two-thirds of FMCG companies (69%) had doubted an influencer’s follower count on one or multiple occasions compared to just a quarter (26%) who had never had any concerns. It is noteworthy that in the UK, where just over half of businesses (51%) had never had such doubts about followers, the use of third-party influencer verification specialists was among the highest at 32%, compared to the global average of 27%. Benedict Hamilton, Managing Director in Kroll’s Business Intelligence and Investigations practice, said, “Companies spend years creating brands built on trust and loyalty, characteristics which are hard-won but can be quickly lost, and are difficult to regain. When a negative incident with an influencer occurs, the reputational damage that follows can have long-term commercial impacts. Companies need to do their due diligence and not just take an influencer at “face value.” We are seeing increasing demand from brands to investigate influencers’ online activity and identify potentially sensitive issues, including those posted many years ago, to allow brands to establish whether or not an influencer’s values match their own, and ensure they are making informed decisions about their influencer programmes.”

 Patanjali wants to double its revenues to Rs 10,000 crore by the end of March 2017. The Ayurveda brand is also working on enhancing its distribution network as it prepares for the roll out of the Goods and Services Tax (<keyword id="6354679" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="GST">GST</keyword>). 
 
“In the last three months, the Baba Ramdev-backed FMCG firm has leased 1.2 million sq ft of modern warehousing space across 20 top cities and will ramp this up to over 2 million sq ft by end of fiscal. We reached turnover of around Rs 5,000 crore at March-end and should reach Rs 10,000 crore by fiscal-end,” Acharya Balkrishna, who is Ramdev's partner in the venture, told ET. 
 
As <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=gst&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">GST</a> is also expected to get passed in Rajya Sabha, Patanjali is also planning for the new tax regime. 
 
“The entire supply chain planning is being done in-house, unlike FMCG firms that hire international consultants to draw up a plan. The company has hired a qualified team,” Balkrishna told ET, adding “the new manufacturing plants are likely to be in Vidharbha, Bundelkhand regions and Assam to tap markets in the Northeast.” 
 
Patanjali is also looking to set up a plant on the Yamuna Expressway near Noida. 
 
Patanjali started with a turnover of around Rs 450 crore in 2011-12 to Rs 2,000 crore in 2014-15 and more than doubling to Rs 5,000 crore at end of March 2016.

Amul, marketed by the <keyword id="110794" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat-Co-operative-Milk-Marketing-Federation">Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation</keyword>, plans to zoom ahead Hindustan <keyword id="45009" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Unilever">Unilever</keyword> as the country’s largest FMCG firm over next two years. As GCMMF is growing at a CAGR of 19% for last seven years and confident to continue such high pace of growth Amul’s managing director RS Sodhi expressed the positivity, while talking to The Economic Times. GCMMF touched Rs 27,000 crore sales in 2016-17, while Hindustan Unilever had touched Rs 31,987 crore revenue in 2015-16. Hindustan Unilever is yet to declare its result for last fiscal, according to the ET. "Around 13-14% of our growth will come from milk procurement expansion and 6-7% from the average price hike. We are expanding milk procurement outside <keyword id="6354766" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat">Gujarat</keyword> in states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, West Bengal and Maharashtra," Sodhi told the financial daily.

As fewer villagers are spending, the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector is facing its worst ever growth in the last 15 years. But, unlike the story of<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/discounts-on-cars-and-two-wheelers-have-not-helped-sales/articleshow/71177071.cms"> automobile slowdown</a>, it did not start 11 months back. <keyword id="8119854" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="fmcg-sector-slowdown">FMCG sector slowdown</keyword> started three years back. “In our assessment, the slowdown started in 2016, however, was camouflaged first by trade disruptions in 2017 caused by demonetisation and GST, and then by the low base effect leading to high growth in FY19. The CAGR of FMCG revenue growth over FY16-19 was very low at around 7%,” said a report by Credit Suisse. A large number of micro and macro factors led this slowdown which will not be easy to fix either, the report warns. The GDP in the agricultural sector hit a 15-year low in 2018. “Liquidity worsened post Oct-2018 as non-banking financial companies faced pressures. Employment challenges for small businesses started with demonetisation and implementation of goods and services tax (GST), and was aggravated due to liquidity,” the report said. Weak sentiment and ad spend cuts As all these factors took effect, something worse has derailed it—weak sentiment. FMCG companies themselves have been cutting advertising spends to save their margins, as a few have resorted to price cuts, especially with soaps. “We see most companies doing this as it does not impact immediate growth. There is also a rationalisation that in an environment of weak consumer sentiment, one could cut down the pace of innovation,” Credit Suisse said. All eyes are now on the government to aid rural growth. And one of such was already kickstarted in February 2019, a scheme called PMKSN which provides an income of ₹ 6,000 per annum to 140 million rural homes. The scheme has reached only half of the intended beneficiaries. If the scheme picks up, it will add 2-3% growth in the FMCG sector. It will also help Indian villagers spend on little comforts like biscuits, the sales of which have taken a drastic hit in the last few months. India's FMCG sector has been slowing down since 2016 under cloak and dagger

The final placement season of the institute saw the participation of 411 students, who received over 450 offers across job profiles from the top recruiters. A total of 162 pre-placement offers were given to the students before the beginning of the final placements based on their performances during the summer internship out of which 133 offers were accepted by the students. 
 
 Global banks 
 IIM Bangalore played host to most leading global banks on the first-day of the Final Placements. Goldman Sachs made 14 offers, including PPOs. Citi Bank, <keyword id="6358584" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="HSBC">HSBC</keyword>, Morgan Stanley and Standard Chartered were the other key participants. Among banks and financial firms, <keyword id="91294" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="American-Express">American Express</keyword> made eight offers followed by YES Bank, ICICI Bank, Visa, and so on. 
 
Consulting companies 
 In the strategy consulting domain, the <keyword id="136162" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Boston-Consulting-Group">Boston Consulting Group</keyword> led with 20 offers (including PPOs) followed by Accenture Strategy, McKinsey &amp; Co, Bain &amp; Company, Deloitte and AT Kearney. 
 
Indian conglomerates 
 Indian groups were led by the <keyword id="6359480" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aditya-Birla">Aditya Birla</keyword> Group, followed by Wipro Global, Bharti Airtel, Mahindra Group, Tata Administrative Services and <keyword id="6355199" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance-Industries">Reliance Industries</keyword>.

Technology 
 Prominent recruiters in the technology space included Samsung, Tech Mahindra, Microsoft, WNS, Directi, Sterlite Technologies, Microland, Sasken, UnitedHealth Group, Schneider Electric, Phillips, <keyword id="369118" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Robert-Bosch">Robert Bosch</keyword>, Honeywell and Sutherland Global. Capgemini, IBM Consulting and Cognizant Business were the top recruiters in IT consulting. 
 
E-commerce 
 
E-commerce players showed reduced interest compared to last year, with Amazon leading with 12 offers. Other key recruiters included Ola Cabs, Paytm, Myntra and Uber (1). Analytics recruiters included Mu Sigma (1) and Bridgei2i (1). 
 
The healthcare sector saw offers from Dr Reddy’s, and from the real-estate sector offers were made by Nitesh Estates and Altisource Ocwen.

New Delhi, Apr 9 () Two leading FMCG companies Godrej Consumer Products and Marico have reported disruptions in their domestic and global businesses and expect a decline in their Q1 (January-March) revenue due to the Covid-19 crisis.Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL) said it would report "high teens revenue decline" in the January-March quarter.While Marico said its Q1 EBITDA may see "modest decline" following disruptions in trade impacted by dip in the revenue of the company on account of pandemic of Covid-19 and lockdown, which has disrupted the market.Marico has started an "aggressive cost management exercise" to mitigate the impact of reduced sales in such "unprecedented times" . "Revenue decline (both in India and International business), coupled with an unfavourable mix in the India business, will translate into a modest decline in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) in this quarter vs the corresponding quarter last year, Marico said in an quarterly update.Marico's international business was also impacted due to the pandemic of Covid-19. "With many of the territories experiencing partial or complete lockdown in March, the international business recorded a mid-single digit decline on a constant currency basis," it said.GCPL witnessed steady demand till mid-March, the lockdown in many geographies resulted in "virtually no sales" in the latter part of the month, thus significantly impacting sales performance for the quarter.In the domestic market, it has witnessed a double-digit decline in the performance of its distributors and is awaiting data on the stock levels on general trade shelves, GCPL said in a Quarterly Update 4Q FY20''."In India, demand was steady till the outbreak of Coronavirus and slumped due to disruption of both back end and front end supply chain in the last twelve days of March. March also happens to be the start of the season for a few of our categories like soaps and household insecticides."Consequently, we will report around high teens revenue decline in the quarter," said GCPL.In the international segment, the Godrej Group firm expects to record "around mid single digit sales decline" in rupee terms, resulting in "consolidated sales declining around low double digit in INR terms for the quarter".GCPL gets around half of its revenue from the foreign markets."We believe there should be a gradual bounce back in the near term driven by restoration of the supply chain, higher consumption for Personal Wash and an ongoing favourable season for Household Insecticides," it said. GCPL further said it has "continued to gain market shares across key categories of operations".While Marico said it is "focusing on movement of essential food and grocery items to the consumers subject to necessary approvals from local government authorities and taking all possible efforts to ensure uninterrupted supplies of essential products to our customers across channels (general trade, modern trade and e-commerce) within the existing constraints". New Delhi, Mar 4 () Fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies are ramping up their production and optimising distribution channels to meet the rising demand for hand sanitizers amid the coronavirus outbreak. Some FMCG firms are also educating consumers by engaging their brands to communicate with the consumers, through special campaigns on digital and mainstream media, to make them aware about the benefits of regular hands wash as prevention for coronavirus. The companies have assured that they have enough stocks to tackle the situation. "We have ramped up our production capacity. We are also trying to ramp up through our vendors also," Godrej Consumer Products Ltd CEO (India and SAARC) Sunil Kataria told . However, he also added that hand santizers are premium products in India. "The way we have to address this problem is through that we all need to communicate the right education to the people and send messages to the consumers that best precaution and prevention from coronavirus is regularly washing hands," he added. GCPL, which had Godrej Protekt brand in the segment, has started a digital campaign to create awareness about it. ITC, which is present in the segment through its brand Savlon, said it is ensuring that there is an adequate supply of hygiene products in the market. "ITC is ensuring adequate supply of Savlon hygiene products in the market. Savlon continues to focus on enhancing awareness about hand hygiene and urges consumers to maintain good hygiene practices," according to an ITC spokesperson. FMCG major HUL, which is present in the segment with Lifebuoy hand sanitizers, is also ensuring its products' availability to the consumers. "Given the surge in demand for hygiene products, we have redoubled our efforts to ensure that consumers have access to products that keep them safe such as Lifebuoy hand sanitizers and hand wash," said an HUL spokesperson. While Dabur is running a series of awareness campaigns across digital platforms and social and mainstream media to educate the public about how to keep themselves safe from coronavirus. "Our key healthcare brands such as Dabur Chyawanprash, ImmunoDab and Giloy Ghanvati are running informative campaigns to drive awareness about staying protected from such illnesses," said Dabur India Marketing Head (Healthcare) Mukesh Mishra. Mishra also said the company is also organising a question-and-answer session, particularly for mothers, with ayurvedic doctors on digital media platforms to address their queries regarding coronavirus and how to keep their families protected from it. However, FMCG major RB India (erstwhile Reckitt Benckiser), which is one of the leading player in the segment with its brand Dettol, has declined to comment on the issue. India’s Goods and Services Tax Council announced a rebate in taxes from 28% to 18% last year on various consumer products including shampoo, cosmetics, hair oil, and groceries. Further, this year it decided to reduce the tax rate levied on refrigerators, washing machines, small televisions, and vacuum cleaners from 28% to 18%. The extensive supply chains of FMCG companies may make it difficult for them to implement price changes and is not necessarily a move to inappropriately profit, according to the Mint report. Most of the complaints lodged by consumers were related to products including khadi products, baby wash, disinfectant gels, and hair care products, said the report. The National Anti-Profiteering Authority, which is responsible for monitoring if GST is implemented appropriately by companies, is expected to take action over the next few months. A recent survey by Local Circles shows that nearly half of more than 7,800 survey respondents believe that the companies did not pass them GST rate cut benefits in the month of November.
