Mumbai, <keyword id="3526030" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fino-payments-bank" source="Orion">Fino Payments Bank</keyword> is keen to become a <keyword id="6382595" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="small-finance-bank" source="Orion">small finance bank</keyword> after having completed five years of operations, Managing Director <keyword id="1336488" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rishi-gupta" source="Orion">Rishi Gupta</keyword> said. The Navi Mumbai-based company is a subsidiary of Fino Paytech, which is backed by marquee investors such as Bharat Petroleum, ICICI Group, Blackstone, IFC, Intel and LIC, among others. The company started operations in July 2017 with 410 branches to become the fourth payments bank after <keyword id="6385180" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="airtel-payments-bank" source="Orion">Airtel Payments Bank</keyword>, <keyword id="3388668" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india-post-payments-bank" source="Orion">India Post Payments Bank</keyword> and <keyword id="3236791" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="paytm-payments-bank" source="Orion">Paytm Payments Bank</keyword>. Fino, which was a remittance service provider, has converted most of its Fino Money Mart outlets into bank branches after getting licence from the Reserve Bank. Also, Fino is the only lender in this space being traded on the exchanges. "From regulatory and compliance perspectives we are eligible for an upgrade to a small finance bank, having completed the mandatory five years of operations. Our board also favours such a conversion and soon we'll be moving an application with the RBI in this regard," Gupta told PTI. On why to stop at small finance bank, and not a full service bank, Gupta said, the company is too small to directly convert to a full service commercial bank from capital and capabilities perspectives. He said, till the upgrade happens, the bank will grow the business with a focus on tie-ups with fintechs under the Fino 2.0 initiative on building digital assets and strengthen the digital offerings. Already, it has tied up with the Sequoia Capital-backed Hubble to offer a spending account, offering customers better value on their lifestyle spends. People can park their funds, spend and save up to 10 per cent on all purchases made from the account. "We're looking at more such tie-ups in the fintech space," Gupta said, adding the company is also tying up with NBFCs from retail lending as payments partner and such loan remains on the book of the NBFC. "We've already tied up with two such shadow banks-Kredbee and Myshublaon," he said. In Q4FY23, its revenue rose 13 per cent to Rs 323 crore and net income jumped 25 per cent to Rs 22 crore with net margin rising to 6.8 per cent from 6.2 per cent. Its deposits grew 66 per cent to Rs 1,200 crore in FY23 from Rs 724 crore in FY22 of which 20 per cent are the low-cost Casa deposits. Gupta said the bank has been adding 2.5 lakh customers monthly on an average in FY24, taking the overall customer base to 71 lakh now. Another new service they began is offering recurring deposits, he said, adding the bank is also working on launching a virtual debit card. Also, under the pipeline is gold loans, mutual funds and medical insurance, Gupta said.

The bank may consider a pre-IPO placement aggregating up to ₹60 crore. If such placement is completed, the fresh issue size will be reduced. According to merchant banking sources, the IPO is expected to fetch ₹1,300 crore. Fino Payments Bank or FPBL is a scheduled commercial bank serving the emerging India market with its digital based financial services. About ₹300 crore will be raised through the fresh issue, while the rest ₹1,000 crore will be through the secondary issue, offering partial exit to existing shareholders. The company had filed its draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) in July 2021. Founded in 2007 as Fino Fintech Foundation Limited, the company rebranded itself to Fino Fintech Private Limited in 2015. The company was granted in-principle approval by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to establish a payments bank the same year. Though, it commenced operations in June 2017. Rishi Gupta is the managing director and chief executive officer of Fino Payments Bank, and was one of the founding members of the Fino Paytech. According to a Zee Business <a href="https://twitter.com/zeebusiness/status/1444944671671611397?s=24">report</a> published earlier today, SEBI was likely to give approval to FIno and One97 Communications, the parent company of digital payments giant Paytm. However, the One97 Communications’ request is still being processed by the market regulator. According to sources, Paytm is likely to get the approval for its IPO this week. Fino Payments Bank IPO opens today; here’s what analysts are saying about it

Mumbai, May 14 () Notwithstanding the sluggish economic activity, Fino Payments Bank is witnessing a surge in applications from those wanting to act as banking correspondents in rural India since the lockdown began, a top official has said. This can be due to renewed attempts at spotting income supplementing opportunities by rural households or also due to the high incidence of migration back to the villages, where the returnees are looking for income generation opportunities."This is the start of entrepreneurial journeys for many. The enquiries and applications which we are getting for 'BC Point' is increasing," chief executive and managing director Rishi Gupta told .He said as against about 600 such enquiries earlier, the company is now getting 1,000 enquiries. A Business Correspondent (BC) Point is typically equipped with a handheld device like a smartphone or a tablet, along with peripheral finger print reading machine. Through the hardware and connectivity, it delivers a host of banking and financial services to the local people against a commission for every transaction like remittances and also cash withdrawals. Typically, a person has to invest over Rs 7,000 for the hardware and connectivity and is helped by the company to render the services after being trained and some necessary marketing material given, Gupta said, adding that it has 2 lakh such BC Points manned by external partners as of now. "We do a background search on the applicant, check the potential of the area he would be operating in before onboarding," Gupta said, adding the work of adding the new partners is on.The BC point has business earning potential of about Rs 6,000 per month, assuming for doing about 200 transactions a day, Gupta said, adding that typically, the business operator also has other interests like photocopying or phone recharges. Meanwhile, Gupta said the cash transfers by the government under various schemes like PM-Kisan have ensured that activities like remittances, which had been impacted in the initial days of the lockdown, have re-started now.The bank is now witnessing remittances of Rs 1,500 crore per month as against a low of about Rs 400 crore, he said. Similarly, deposit withdrawals have also increased with the accounts witnessing some deposits from the government, Gupta said, adding the rate of new account opening is also up. Gupta said the bank, which turned in the black in the March quarter, will close FY21 with profits and is also sticking to its aim of turning itself into a small finance bank in two years.In the current times, the payments bank is the best business model because it is a risk-free business, Gupta said. Paytm, which expects to touch Rs 10,000 crore in deposits in the next three years, wants to launch India’s first payments bank by the end of this financial year.

Paytm has over 104 million mobile wallets and expects that to touch 150 million by March 2016. "We have an edge on timeline. The next year or a year and half, when these companies get started, we will still be playing the business," Sharma added. 
 
The above mentioned entities will take deposits, convey remittances and dispense payments to recipients, making them ideal for migrant workers who need to send money home. They can't lend to their customers, though. The business potential from serving millions of unbanked Indians to further the financial inclusion initiative of the government and the Reserve Bank had attracted most of the top business houses. Sharma said telcos such as <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vodafone" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Vodafone</a>, Airtel and Idea, which have experience in mobile remittances businesses, will start on a near-equal footing. 
 
"We don't do remittances, but our capability is in merchant transactions and personto- person payments," he said. He was confident that Paytm will be the first off the lock with its payments bank. "We want to be the first payments bank in the country. We have technology on our side, simple organisational structure to create, we have people recruitment on, which is critical, as we speak." Paytm, which officially got the licence last Monday, is scouting for a CEO with financial services and consulting background. Sharma is ooking for someone with a fresh outlook rather than someone with a banking background who is likely to bring in a traditional approach. The company is hiring 100 staff a month to kick-start its new business. <keyword id="3053539" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="Paytm-Payment-Bank-Ltd">Paytm Payment Bank Ltd</keyword>, the new company formed to house the payments bank, will also house the mobile wallets business. The wallet license will be surrendered shortly to the RBI and will operate under the payments bank licence. The escrow account, which today is on a third party nationalized bank, will move to the <keyword id="3053537" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Paytm-Payment-Bank">Paytm Payment Bank</keyword>. 
 
By the end of March, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Alibaba+" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Alibaba</a> Group-backed One97 Communications, he holding company of Paytm's businesses, will have streamlined its operations into payments bank and wallets, commerce and marketing, Sharma said. For its mobile commerce business, which is an online marketplace, Paytm expects to touch a gross merchandising value (GMV) of 1 lakh crore by 2020 from 12,000 crore currently. GMV is a measure of the maximum price of goods and services sold on a company’s platform and are higher than actual revenue. 
 Sharma is now focused on the payments bank. He holds 51% in Paytm Payment Bank, One97 Communications owns 39% and 10% is held by a subsidiary of One97 and Sharma. After another round of expected fund infusion of about $400 million by <keyword id="163405" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Alibaba-Group">Alibaba Group</keyword>, which is slated to increase its stake in One97 to 40% from 25% now, the Chinese giant will own roughly 20% indirectly in Paytm Payment Bank. 
 
Sharma said the payments bank doesn't need an equity relationship with a financial services firm. Rather, it needs banks as partners because customers would like to feed into a main bank due to restrictions on what payments banks can offer.

The country came together to congratulate her on her historic achievement and brands joined in, as much to congratulate her as to ride on the trend that Sindhu had created with her win. However, Sindhu is now said to be exploring legal options to take a lot of these brands to court, for using her name and image for their marketing purposes without proper authorization. In the past few years, we have seen many brands build their social presence with the help of moment marketing. We have seen brands jump in on topical conversations with their own take on something that is trending. In doing so, they have many-a-times, used individuals and their names to make the most of the trending moment. The benefits are obvious, while coming up with content that many relate with, they are also able to become a part of the conversation, making it easier for them to grab eyeballs and become a part of the conversation. However, with Sindhu taking an objection to the way her name has been used by brand, there is a chance that brands will become more careful about how they use a public personality's image or name in their content. Sindhu, who is managed by sports marketing agency Baseline Ventures, is reportedly seeking damages worth Rs 5 crore from brands that have used her name and images without her consent. Speaking on what is wrong with the way these brands have handled things, Yashwanth Biyyala, Director - Talent and Partnerships, Baseline Ventures said, “The fact that these brands used PV Sindhu’s images and name on their posts is a clear infringement on the player’s privacy. Moreover, they are also clearly flouting the norms of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), that has put together clear guidelines around advertising during the tournament. In fact there was a blackout period between July 13 (when the Olympic Village opens) and August 10 (two days after the Closing Ceremony) when even brands that sponsor the player are not allowed to post about them. Only IOC and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) partners are allowed to post about the players.” In total, Baseline Ventures is taking close to 20 brands to court for flouting the rules, out of which legal notices have already been sent to 15. The brands that have already been sent notices include Happydent (Perfetti Van Melle), Pan Bahar, Eureka Forbes, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Vodafone Idea, MG Motor, UCO Bank, Punjab National Bank, <keyword id="6354731" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="state-bank-of-india">State Bank of India</keyword>, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Fino Payments Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Indian Bank and <keyword id="5998660" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro-Lighting">Wipro Lighting</keyword>. Over the years, we have seen many brands build a huge social media following on the back of moment marketing. In fact, Amul is one brand that has garnered immense love for their take on almost everything topical. Amongst new-age brands, we have seen the likes of Dunzo and Zomato churn out relatable, topical content time and again. So following this incident, will agencies need to be doubly careful about how they go about communicating on topical issues, when using the names and images of individuals? Sharing his view on the development, <keyword id="244384" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lloyd-Mathias">Lloyd Mathias</keyword>, Business Strategist and former Marketing Head of HP Asia, Motorola and PepsiCo India said, “Moment marketing is fantastic in itself and brands that have their own take on topical issues do get consumers attention. However, when a brand uses a specific individual and his/her achievements to gain commercial mileage without prior permission or getting into a contract with that individual, then it is unfair. Brands should display more maturity and seek permission from athletes or their agents before using them overtly or covertly.Most Indian sportspersons outside cricket could benefit from a brand association that may provide them support – that could be monetary, or in terms of exposure or facilities.” To ensure brands do not infringe upon the privacy of celebrities, the <keyword id="120108" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Advertising-Standards-Council-of-India">Advertising Standards Council of India</keyword> (ASCI) already has a code in place. The code says "Advertisements shall not, without permission from the person, firm or institution under reference, contain any reference to such person, which confers and unjustified advantage on the product advertised or tends to bring the person, firm or institute into ridicule or disrepute. If and when required to do so by ASCI, the advertiser and the advertising agency shall produce explicit permission from the person, firm or institution to which reference is made in the advertisement," and ads that do not comply with this requirement may be in violation of the ASCI Code. On how brands need to tread in situations like the current one, Manisha Kapoor, Secretary-General, ASCI said, “Brands need to be careful and calibrated about everything that goes into an ad, right from the visuals, the words, and the implication of their messaging. Advertisements are made with high involvement of strategic and creative resources, and it goes without saying that they must pay keen attention to aspects that can be challenged.” Moment marketing is all about coming up with relatable posts when something is making news and reaping the benefits of joining the trend. Agencies usually have very less time in which to churn out content that is relatable and shareable, which is possibly why a few miss out on checking on the legal aspects of putting up such posts. However, in the wake of this incident, agencies will need to be doubly careful, said <keyword id="11806503" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajni-Daswani">Rajni Daswani</keyword>, Director – Brand Experience, So Cheers. On how agencies can avoid getting into trouble, Daswani said, “Agencies should definitely educated themselves on what they are and aren’t allowed to do because if they are providing that service to their clients, it is their responsibility to cross checking at their end. Secondly, brands can simply be creative without using individual names, image .You want to be a part of the moment, but you also don't want to get stuck into the legal implications. There are a lot of creative, indirect ways to do it and the internet is full of people who understand such indirect references.” Sharing a similar thought, Manesh Swamy, Sr VP - Creative, Social, PR, Marcom, <keyword id="3900173" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Logicserve-Digital">Logicserve Digital</keyword> said, “The IPLs and the World Cups have stricter copyright laws and hence you don't see pictures of cricketers but victory silhouette poses in branded posts. The Golds and Silvers are still rare for us, so people and brands go a little overboard genuinely to celebrate the Olympic feat. If the brand is just celebrating these small moments of joy without selling anything, I guess it shouldn't be harmful. To ace moment marketing considering the current situation, the best move would be to do surrogate advertising and play with the essence of the moment.” On what could be a simpler way of getting around issues like this while also being a part of the moment, Sushant Vithaldas - Head of Business, Schbang Bengaluru said, "For the larger audience of viewers and consumers, it’s very difficult to distinguish between a direct association and a congratulatory post or show of support by a brand. Significant progress is being made in the way influencers endorse a product with callouts for “#PaidPartnerships” or #Ad. A simple fix like this that carries the words “#MomentMarketing” on such posts is a far more easier way to address the issue and let brands and marketeers celebrate the moment in its true spirit." So can this incident lead to the way moment marketing is done in the future? Sanjay Mehta, Joint CEO of Mirum India said, “For the time being, since ASCI has come down heavily on brands that used these stars without permission, other brands will be sensitive to this idea, and won't use any names if they don't have the rights. Just like brands have got tuned to not abuse the IPL property and the cricketers' rights and privileges. Considering that these non-cricket sports and the sportspeople do not get much visibility ordinarily, these controls will unfortunately, make them even less visible, and brands will not err to the side of caution. They may not even mention a wrestling hero or a woman golfer, for not knowing if they have any other brand engagements and could create conflicts! Moment marketing around events of this kind, will get constrained and may be limited to acknowledging the sport and not the star. These are challenging new areas to tread on, in the digital age, and reforms to these rules, so that guidelines have a reasonable balance, will emerge, ultimately.”
