"Despite a 10 % YoY growth, the Auto Retail sector has seen an 8 % MoM dip, indicating a short-term deceleration in sales," FADA president Manish Raj Singhania. "In comparison to pre-Covid levels, the overall auto retail marked a marginal decrease of 3 %, with 2W as the sole laggard. Conversely, the CV segment experienced a 1.5 % growth compared to June'19, surpassing the pre-Covid levels for the first time," Singhania said. Further, FADA said June 2023 witnessed the three-wheeler market's robust growth, primarily owing to the previous year's low base effect and positive market sentiment. "The delayed and uneven rains may reduce crop yields, shorten crop cycles and cause a delay in future crop arrivals. Such developments may affect the sales of automobiles, particularly in rural areas where a weak agricultural season could lead to a reduction in disposable income, thus affecting demand for two-wheelers and entry-level cars." However, upcoming rains may potentially boost agricultural prospects, revive rural demand, and positively influence automotive sales. FADA said it remains cautiously optimistic for the near term. Growth across vehicle segments powers 10% rise in India's June auto retail sales, cautiously optimistic for the near term: FADA

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (<keyword id="354719" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="fada" source="Orion">FADA</keyword>), the leading body of automobile retail in India, on Thursday submitted a critical representation to the Goods and Services Tax (<keyword id="6354679" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="gst" source="Orion">GST</keyword>) Council, urging an immediate reduction in the GST rate on two-wheelers from the current 28 per cent to 18 per cent. This timely and decisive intervention is aimed at making two-wheelers more affordable, reviving demand and reinvigorating an industry that has seen a significant slump in sales over the past few years, according to a statement from FADA. FADA President Manish Raj Singhania affirmed, "The two-wheeler industry is at a critical juncture, grappling with unprecedented challenges such as rising inflation, stringent emission norms, and the post-COVID-19 effects in Bharat of India." He said this is the opportune moment for the GST Council to reduce the GST rate on two-wheelers, making them more accessible for the common man, thereby providing the much-needed boost to the industry, generating employment opportunities and fostering India's overall economic growth. FADA's compelling appeal has been forwarded to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, chair of the GST Council, all GST Council members; the Ministry of Heavy Industries, which supervises the automobile sector and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. This action underscores the urgency and significance of the issue, it added. FADA said over the past few years, the prices of various two-wheelers have risen significantly, impacting their affordability for consumers across India. This surge in prices can be attributed to multiple factors, including the rising cost of raw materials, stricter emission norms and higher taxes and levies, FADA said, adding that for instance, the price of the popular -- Honda Activa -- has escalated from Rs 52,000 in 2016 to Rs 88,000 in 2023. Similarly, the Bajaj Pulsar has witnessed a substantial increase from Rs 72,000 in 2016 to Rs 1,50,000 in 2023. The Hero Splendor and <keyword id="1871753" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tvs-jupiter" source="Orion">TVS Jupiter</keyword> have also experienced considerable price hikes over the same period, with their prices soaring from Rs 46,000 to Rs 74,801 and Rs 49,000 to Rs 88,498, respectively. The continuous rise in two-wheeler prices has consequently led to a decline in sales, emphasising the pressing need for intervention and GST rate reduction to restore the industry's growth trajectory, according to the statement. In 2016, two-wheelers accounted for 78 per cent of the total automobile sales in India. However, due to continuous price increases since 2020, this contribution has fallen to 72 per cent in FY23, underlining the impact of the steep price hike. FADA believes that a reduction in the GST rate will address several critical issues facing the industry, including rural distress, the transition from BS-4 to BS-6 emission norms and the sharp increase in two-wheeler prices. Lowering the GST rate will enhance the competitiveness of two-wheelers compared to other transportation modes, thereby increasing sales and revenue for the industry. The association also said two-wheelers play a pivotal role in providing affordable mobility to a large segment of India's population, especially in rural areas where public transportation is sparse. FADA also asserted that two-wheelers, being essential for millions, should not be categorised as sin goods or luxury items for GST taxation purposes. Automobile dealers' association seeks GST cut on 2-wheelers from 28% to 18%

New Delhi, Apr 14 () Automobile dealers' body FADA on Tuesday said over 15,000 of its members across the country will strictly comply with the lockdown extension till May 3. The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) President Ashish Harsharaj Kale said in a statement that the entire auto dealer community stands in complete support of the lockdown extension. "Health and security of our citizens is paramount and being a responsible and law abiding association, FADA will strictly follow the lockdown as it has been doing till now," he added. Auto dealers look forward to the country getting out of the lockdown on May 3 for business to resume, Kale said. Service assistance to all essential goods and services vehicle continues by all dealers round the clock as was during the previous lockdown period, he added. "FADA is hopeful that in the near future the government will surely announce a financial package for support to the business community during and post lockdown period and we have full faith and trust that the dealer community's list of request will be considered," Kale noted. On Monday, FADA had written to the PM Modi seeing immediate financial support in order to save their businesses amid the nationwide lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic. Auto dealers to strictly comply with lockdown extension: FADA

New Delhi, Apr 13 () The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking immediate financial support from the government for the ailing sector amid the nationwide lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic. In its letter to the prime minister, FADA sought complete waiver of interest on all category of loans from banks and NBFCs for the lockdown period. The industry body, which represents around 15,000 auto dealers, also sought extension of 4 per cent interest subvention/subsidy for working capital/loan requirements to companies for a period of nine months post the lockdown. FADA sought that the salary of people employed at the dealerships during the lockdown period should be paid through ESIC. It has also asked for grant of MSME extension to auto retail. The subsidies and incentives received under the MSME division will provide much needed relief to dealerships, which provide direct and indirect employment to lakhs of people, FADA said in the letter which was also marked to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, among others. The industry body has sought measures like GST cut on automobiles, incentive based scrappage policy and priority sector tag for the sector to boost demand post-lockdown period. FADA said the auto industry has already been reeling under a severe slowdown for the last 15 months, with more than 275 dealerships already shut, resulting in huge job losses. "The current situation can lead to an existential situation for many of our members and their employees. Majority of them are small scale family run businesses with no financial sustenance for such a crisis after already having gone through a tough period in past 15 months," FADA President Ashish Harsharaj Kale said in the letter. Over the years, the auto dealership business model has come under severe strain with increasing costs and low operating margins, thereby reducing the sector's strength to face challenges like the current situation and its after effects, he added. "While we are taking it up with SIAM at a complete change of the business model to build up sustenance for the after effects of COVID-19 and for any future disruptions, the immediate situation is extremely bleak if not supported," Kale said. COVID-19: FADA writes to PM, seeks immediate financial support

Retail sales of overall vehicles in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> grew by 15.28 per cent to 2,11,20,441 units in 2022 led by record sales of passenger vehicles and tractors, <keyword id="1692051" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="federation-of-automobile-dealers-associations" source="Orion">Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations</keyword> (<keyword id="354719" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="fada" source="Orion">FADA</keyword>) said on Thursday. In 2021, total retail sales of vehicles in India were at 1,83,21,760 units, FADA said in a statement. Two-wheelers retail sales stood at 1,53,88,062 units last year, a growth of 13.37 per cent from 2021 when sales stood at 1,35,73,682 units. Passenger vehicles (PV) retail sales were at 34,31,497 units in 2022, as against 29,49,182 units in 2021, up 16.35 per cent, it added. FADA President Manish Raj <keyword id="1114" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="singhania" source="Orion">Singhania</keyword> said, "For CY2022, while total vehicle retails grew by 15 per cent year-on-year and 17 per cent compared to CY20 it failed to surpass CY19 retails, (a pre-Covid year) and registered a fall of 10 per cent." He further said, "The PV category during this period continued to gain new grounds by clocking 34.31 lakh retails during the full year. This is by far, the highest retails which PV has done till date." Singhania, however, lamented that the two-wheeler segment once again failed to impress as retail sales during December 2022 continued to fall after two good months. "Reasons like rise in inflation, increased cost of ownership, rural market yet to pick up fully and increased EV sales, the ICE (internal combustion engine) two-wheeler segment is yet to see any green shoots," he added. In 2022, commercial vehicles retail sales stood at 8,65,344 units, as against 6,55,696 units in 2021, a growth of 31.97 per cent. "The CV segment has continued to grow during entire CY2022 and is now almost at par with CY2019 retails. With an uptick in demand in LCV (light commercial vehicles), HCV (heavy commercial vehicles), buses and construction equipment, the government's continued push for infrastructure development has kept this segment going," Singhania said. He also said the three-wheeler segment which was completely down during <keyword id="8764262" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="covid" source="Orion">Covid</keyword> has recovered well and has narrowed its gap when compared to CY2019. "Within the segment it's the electric rickshaw sub-segment which is showing triple-digit growth thus pushing the EV market share above 50 per cent mark," he added. Three-wheeler retail in 2022 stood at 6,40,559 units, as compared to 3,73,562 units in 2021, up 71.47 per cent. Singhania said the tractor segment was the only other segment apart from PV which has grown well above calendar years 2021,2020 and pre-Covid year of 2019. "It has also registered a new lifetime high sales of 7.94 lakh units. This feat was possible due to consistently good monsoon, improved cash flow with farmers, better MSP of crops and government's focus on better procurements," he added. Tractor retail sales in 2021 were at 7,69,638 units. Apart from this, timely sowing of rabi crops also helped to continue this momentum. Festive season sales which were normal after 3 years also played its part in this strong momentum, Singhania said. In December 2022, FADA said the total vehicle retail sales were down 5.4 per cent at 16,22,317 units as against 17,14,942 units in the year-ago month. Two-wheelers retail sales stood at 11,33,138 units last month, as against 12,75,894 units in December 2021, a decline of 11.19 per cent, FADA said. Passenger vehicle retail sales were at 2,80,016 units as compared to 2,58,921 units in December 2021, up 8.15 per cent, while commercial vehicles segment witnessed retail sales of 66,945 units as compared to 60,491 units in December 2021, a growth of 10.67 per cent. On the outlook, FADA said global geopolitical headwinds, tightening monetary policy and the lingering effect of the pandemic have combined to create a gloomy global outlook. "Auto OEMs have done routine price hikes in December and have announced the same at the beginning of this year. Apart from this, BS-VI phase II norms coming in, there will be further price hikes across all categories," it said, adding to counter this, Auto OEMs should announce special schemes so that retail sales momentum continues. Due to inflation pressure, upcoming change in vehicle norms resulting in price hikes, FADA said it remains cautious during the last quarter of FY23. Total vehicle retail sales jump 15 pc to 2.11 crore units in 2022: FADA

<keyword id="21999883" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Passenger-vehicle-retail-sales" source="keywords">Passenger vehicle retail sales</keyword> in India witnessed a 5 per cent on-year decline in August on account of delayed customer purchases, poor consumer sentiment and persistent heavy rains, industry body <keyword id="20108734" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FADA" source="keywords">FADA</keyword> said on Thursday. The overall <keyword id="762866" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Passenger-vehicle" source="Orion">passenger vehicle</keyword> (PV) registrations last month stood at 3,09,053 units, as compared to 3,23,720 units in August 2023. "Even with the arrival of the <keyword id="19894908" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Festive-season" source="keywords">festive season</keyword>, the market remains under significant strain... Inventory levels have reached alarming levels, with stock days now stretching to 70-75 days and inventory totalling 7.8 lakh vehicles, valued at an alarming Rs 77,800 crore," Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) President Manish Raj Singhania said in a statement. Rather than responding to the situation, PV Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) continue to increase dispatches to dealers on a month-on-month basis, further exacerbating the issue, he added. "FADA urgently calls upon all banks and NBFCs to intervene and immediately control funding to dealers with excessive inventory," Singhania said, adding that dealers must also act swiftly to stop taking on additional stock to protect their financial health. The OEMs, too, must recalibrate their supply strategies without delay, or the industry faces a potential crisis from this inventory overload, he said. "If this aggressive push of excess stock continues unchecked, the <keyword id="23047448" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="auto-retail-ecosystem" source="keywords">auto retail ecosystem</keyword> could face severe disruption," Singhania said. Commercial vehicle registrations saw a 6 per cent year-on-year dip in August, while tractor retail sales also witnessed a drop of 11 per cent as compared to the year-ago period. Two-wheeler sales, however, increased 6 per cent year-on-year to 13,38,237 units in August, as compared to 12,59,140 units in the same month last year, on the back of improved stock availability and the onset of the festive season, Singhania said. Three-wheeler retail sales also increased by 2 per cent to 1,05,478 units last month, as compared to 1,03,782 units in the year-ago period. Overall registrations last month saw an increase of 3 per cent year-on-year at 18,91,499 units, as against 18,38,501 units in August last year. On business outlook in the near term, FADA said it remains cautiously optimistic. While the festive season and improved rural demand present promising opportunities for growth, ongoing weather uncertainties and high inventory levels may temper the overall recovery, it stated. To navigate these challenges, strategic inventory management and targeted marketing initiatives will be crucial in maximising festive sales and mitigating risks from adverse weather conditions, it added.

Passenger vehicle retail sales dip 5% in August 2024; FADA raises alarm over rising inventory level

New Delhi, Jan 21 () Automobile dealers' body FADA on Tuesday said retail sales of passenger vehicles in December 2019 declined 9 per cent to 2,15,716 units year-on-year, as even the best offers failed to lift weak consumer sentiments. 
According to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), passenger vehicles (PV) sales stood at 2,36,586 units in December 2018.
Two-wheeler sales declined 16 per cent to 12,64,169 units last month as compared with 15,00,545 units in December 2018.
Commercial vehicle sales declined 21 per cent to 67,793 units as compared to 85,833 units in December 2018.
Three-wheeler sales, however, rose one per cent to 58,324 units last month.
Total sales across categories declined 15 per cent to 16,06,002 units in December 2019 as against 18,80,995 units in the year-ago month.
FADA President Ashish Harsharaj Kale said December sales de-growth was not on expected lines as the inquiry levels all through the month were quite robust. 
Consumer sentiment continues to be very weak as customers did not conclude on the purchase even after taking the efforts of inquiring and despite the best offers being available, he added.
 "The sharp decline in growth has denied the dealer community an opportunity to reduce its BS-IV inventory making the transition to BS-VI trickier," Kale said.
 With such weak consumer sentiment, FADA recommends a very cautious approach to its members with serious focus on BS-IV inventory liquidation, he added.
 "FADA will work towards seeking relief from the Honourable Supreme Court for the BS-IV inventory of its members as with such weak consumer demand the near term retail sales are unpredictable, making it extremely difficult for our members to continue the current business and also ensure a nil BS-IV inventory on March 31," Kale noted.
 The commercial vehicle and two-wheeler inventory still remains a concern, he added.
Besides, liquidity still remains a concern for the dealers' community as well as for the retail customer as banking industry continues to be in cautious mode, Kale said highlighting the challenges.
 "Equal importance needs to be given to availability of reasonably liberal credit, especially in a developing country like ours where the growth is driven by first time buyers or individuals and businesses looking to expand beyond their current capacity," he added. MSS RUJ

Passenger vehicle retail sales dip 9 pc in December: FADA

New Delhi, Dec 18 () Automobile dealers' body FADA on Wednesday said it has moved the Supreme Court seeking sale and registry of unsold BS-IV vehicles beyond April 1, 2020.
 The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) said it should be allowed to offload inventory purchased before March 1, 2020 which remain unsold by the month-end.
 Last year, the Supreme Court had ordered that no Bharat Stage IV vehicle shall be sold in the country with effect from April 1, 2020. The Bharat Stage VI (BS-VI) emission norms would come into force from April 1 next year.
 The FADA said that it on behalf of its members has filed an impleadment application in the Supreme Court along with an application seeking modification of the court's order of last year.
 "We have appealed to the Honourable Apex Court to protect the inventory and in turn the dealership survival of our members and allow us to sell and register inventory purchased before March 1, 2020, which remains unsold by March 31, beyond the current deadline of April 1,2020," FADA President Ashish Harsharaj Kale said in a statement.
 With the current timeline of pan-India BS-VI fuel availability of April 1, most manufacturers will shift to 100 per cent BS-VI vehicle production only by February-end or first week of March 2020, he said.
 "Looking at this timeline and the current fluctuating demand situation, despite putting in the best of efforts, there is a possibility that many of our members will not be able to ensure 100 per cent liquidation of BS-IV inventory," Kale said.
 He added that FADA members range from large dealership groups to family-run small scale entities operating in the remotest corners of the country operating at 3-5 per cent gross margins.
 "Despite their best efforts to sell, if dealers are left with any inventory of BS-IV on April 1, 2020, many of them will face financial hardships which could even threaten the existence of their business," Kale said.
 Last year, a three-judge bench headed by Justice Madan B Lokur made it clear that only BS-VI compliant vehicles shall be sold in the country from April 1, 2020.

FADA moves SC seeking relief in sale of BS-IV vehicles after April 1 deadline

New Delhi, Mar 12 () Automobile dealers' body FADA on Thursday said retail sales of passenger vehicles, measured by registration, declined 1.17 per cent to 2,26,271 units in February. Passenger vehicle retail sales in February last year stood at 2,28,959 units, the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) said in a statement. Two-wheeler retail sales stood at 12,85,398 units last month as against 12,66,163 units in February 2019, a growth of 1.52 per cent, it added. Commercial vehicle retail sales also grew by 13 per cent to 92,805 units last month as compared with 82,129 units in the year-ago period. FADA said three-wheeler sales were up 20.7 per cent at 65,752 units as compared with 54,474 units in February 2019. Tractor retail sales stood at 41,485 units as compared with 36,543 units in February last year, a growth of 13.52 per cent. Retail sales of total vehicles across categories stood at 17,11,711 units in February 2020 as compared with 16,68,268 units in the same month a year ago, it said. Commenting on vehicle retail sales, FADA President Ashish Harsharaj Kale said February turned positive for most of the segments as the entire auto ecosystem, especially auto dealers, focused on liquidation of their BS-IV Stocks. "Rural sales contributed for retail sales turning green with tractors also being in double digit growth for second month in a row," he added. Despite the growth, the overall retail sales were much below expectations as the expected pre-buying for the BS-IV stock was not seen, he said. "Many customers held onto their purchase decision expecting sweeter deals towards the end of March," he added. Commenting on inventory levels, Kale said it remains a very serious concern for BS-IV two-wheelers, and asked manufacturers to handhold dealers for 100 per cent liquidation of stocks before March 31 deadline. "FADA survey reveals a very high number of two-wheeler dealers will not be able to fully liquidate their BS-IV inventory and expressed inadequate support from their OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) for 100 per cent liquidation of this stock," Kale said. With regards to passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles, he said overall inventory is at a reasonable level, but the challenge remains in slow moving, non-popular models as dealers look for adequate OEM support for liquidation of the same in March. "FADA has already advocated for return of unsold BS-IV stocks and will be pursuing this for its members, if the need arises, as many dealers will be unable to sustain such losses," Kale said. On the outlook for March, he said with banks and NBFCs getting into a cautious mode with regards to financing BS-IV stocks and many RTOs (Regional Transport Offices) across the country prescribing their own cut-off dates for permanent registration, liquidation of BS-IV inventory continues to be a challenge. Passenger vehicle retail sales down 1.17 pc in February: FADA

New Delhi, Nov 19 () Automobile dealers' body FADA on Tuesday said retail sales of passenger vehicles in October increased 11 per cent to 2,48,036 units against the same period last year, driven by festive demand during the month.
 According to Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), passenger vehicles (PV) sales stood at 2,23,498 units in October 2018.
 Two-wheeler sales increased 5 per cent to 13,34,941 units last month as compared with 12,70,261 units in the year-ago period.
 Commercial vehicle sales, however, declined 23 per cent to 67,060 units as compared to 87,618 units in October last year.
 Three-wheeler sales saw an increase of 4 per cent to 59,573 units last month.
 Total sales across categories rose 4 per cent to 17,09,610 units in October, as against 16,38,832 units in the same month last year.
 "October retails were in the positive, giving a much-needed respite to the auto industry - especially to our dealer community - after months of de-growth," FADA President Ashish Harsharaj Kale said.
 The festival season saw very good footfalls at dealerships across most of the geographies, the consumer sentiment was positive, and purchase decisions were concluded as used to be during the growth years, he added.
 Kale said two-wheeler inventory has reduced from an alarming level while PV inventory is also at reasonable levels.
 "CV inventory has also reduced, although with retail continuing to be weak further wholesale regulation is required to reach FADA's 21 days recommended levels," he added.
 With the auto industry heading into the unknown territory of BSVI transition, more needs to be done towards inventory reduction to avoid dealer losses, Kale noted. MSS ANS
