“The idea for setting up KFC Academy was to ensure that we work on developing the right skills sets that increases employability for specially-abled, not just with KFC, but also across the retail sector,” states Shinde. 
 
KFC’s program for the specially-abled has been running for over 8 years now helping them become self-reliant and find work opportunites. 
 
“We have a detailed orientation program for the specially-abled (hearing and speech impaired )and other employees; and also use various visual training tools and technology to help them learn,” said Shinde, explaining how the Academy works. 
 
Moreover, KFC has also partnered with different organizations in different cities, who train their managers and interpreters at the specially-abled restaurants. 
 
“During the training period, we have translators who explain everything to the employees simultaneously in sign language. Employees of a special KFC are trained by respective store buddy trainers. We have an internal team that monitors and closely manages the entire program and their progress,” he stated. 
 
In the fully sponsored program which is completed in 60 hours or about 5-6 weeks, the hearing and speech impaired individuals are taught English and critical skills, such as Industry Familarisation, Food Safety etc that help them with employment in the retail and hospitality sector. 
 “We not only employ them at the Special KFC restaurants but also impart vocational skills that can be used at every stage of their <keyword id="6354910" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Careers">careers</keyword> in the industry,” claims Shinde. 
 
Infact, all specially-abled employees are paid at par with other employees of the identical position and there are also cases of restaurants being completely run by only specially-abled employees. 
 
Recently, six speech and hearing impaired Shift Managers at<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=kfc&amp;sortorder=effectivedate"> KFC</a> have successfully cleared the internal process to rise through the ranks, giving enough proof of the success of the Academy.

The event which saw over 150 guests in attendance at Crowne Plaza in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=gurgaon&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Gurgaon</a> had a minor technical glitch- but even that wasn’t enough to deter the big-hearted CEOs who ensured that the guests were entertained throughout the evening. 
 Starting off was <keyword id="214321" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vishal-Malik">Vishal Malik</keyword>, the Head of Operations, McKinsey Implementation Practice and McKinsey Capability Center (MCC), India who set the melodious tone for the rest of the evening with his medley of songs. Following him was a tough act but <keyword id="255897" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Banmali-Agrawala">Banmali Agrawala</keyword>, the President and CEO, GE South Asia was not one to say no to a challenge. His beautiful rendition of the ‘<keyword id="2726596" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Moh-Moh-Ke-Dhaage">Moh Moh Ke Dhaage</keyword>’ captivated the audiences. P Balaji, Director, Regulatory &amp; External Affairs &amp; <keyword id="6354502" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="CSR">CSR</keyword>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=vodafone&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Vodafone</a> India’s medley of Hum Kissi Se Kam Nahin also stood out, among others. 
 
Amidst the other performances, the corporate honchos also found time to come together and sing a couple of songs that had the crowd hooting and cheering. Infact, a number of CEOs claim that they have managed to revive their musical side in the past few years thanks to Genesis Foundation’s annual fund-raiser. 
 Genesis Foundation was established by <keyword id="1003912" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Prema-Sagar">Prema Sagar</keyword>, principal and founder, <keyword id="3630801" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="genesis-burston-marsteller">Genesis Burston-Marsteller</keyword>, to provide medical aid to critically ill children in the areas of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=cancer&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">cancer</a>, cardiac disorder, post organ transplant, thalassemia and extreme deformities. Since its inception, the Foundation has supported nearly 1000 children in need of medical aid and support.

In keeping with the Foundation’s goal to build a participatory culture of giving, musically-inclined CEOs come together regularly to perform at these fund-raising concerts.
