An ExamSoft representative said issues with password pages were resolved by 1 p.m. Eastern time.Bar-takers used Examplify, ExamSoft's testing software, and needed to connect to the internet to upload their answers, and they were remotely monitored using screen-recording software and the cameras and microphones on their laptops. Many had downloaded the exam files ahead of time, but they were not able to access them until today.Several examinees complained of issues like small or blurry text. Tanisha Henson, a Widener University Commonwealth Law School graduate who is taking the bar exam in Arizona, told Business Insider that she was unable to delete text that she'd written in an answer box, and had to spend several minutes manually copying and pasting the text elsewhere.On top of that, Henson's ExamSoft timer ended early — when her MacBook's clock showed that she still had a couple minutes left — and prevented her from completing part of the exam, automatically shutting down the software. It's not clear how many test-takers ultimately finished the day's portion of the exam without incident."For the 1.6% of candidates who have not yet started their exam, there could be various reasons why those candidates have not yet entered the exam," Diehl added in an email on Monday afternoon. "But at this time, ExamSoft is not experiencing any technical difficulties that would prohibit candidates from doing so. Of those who have yet to begin, some can be attributed to candidates who simply no-showed, as occurs during every exam cycle."Test-takers with disabilities also raised concerns about the accommodations, or lack thereof, that states made for test-takers who needed extra time, opportunities to take medication, or other changes. Jeremy Wertz, a recent Harvard Law School graduate who is co-president of the National Disabled Law Students Association, said he heard widespread frustration on Monday."How much of that 2% is comprised of people with disabilities?" he said, referring to the 98% statistic. Bengaluru, Bowing to the vociferous demand from anxious students, the Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) has postponed its final semester exams from September 21 owing to the grim Covid situation in the state, an official said on Thursday. "The semester exams for law courses have been postponed from September 21 and intermediate exams from October 5 as sought by the students in view of the pandemic still persisting across the state, a KSLU official from Hubballi in the state's northwest region told IANS. The decision to postpone the exams was taken after consultations with State Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J.C. Madhuswsamy here on Wednesday. "Final year exams, however, will be conducted online in October, as directed by the Bar Council of India," said the official. The university will commence regular classes online from September 1 to make up for the time lost as colleges remained shut since April under the Covid-induced lockdown restrictions. The semester and intermediate exams will be held only after classes resume regularly for 45 days to two months. "Though the students will be temporarily promoted to the next semester based on their performance in the internal exams held till March, but they have to take the exams when they are held in the near future," asserted the official. The state higher education department had earlier decided to promote the under-graduate and post-graduate students to the next semester, as classes could not be resumed due to the extended lockdown and Covid crisis. Hundreds of students of the law colleges across the state expressed relief over the university postponing the exams, as many of them from outside the state and rural areas had been staying back at home as educational institutes continued to remain shut in this academic year. Karnataka State Law University exams postponed — will now be conducted online in October

The court also asked Mehta to explore the possibility that aspirants based out of the Middle East countries were permitted to board such flights. The bench also noted that the incoming students are permitted to approach the state governments concerned for relaxations in quarantine periods. The Supreme Court orally directed Mehta to inform the ministries concerned that these students may be allowed to come back to take the exam. Mehta contended before the bench that the issue could be taken care of, subject to quarantine requirements and that they establish that they were coming for the exam. The counsel argued that many students abroad intended to sit in both the NEET and Joint Entrance Exams (JEE). The petitioners said that only 6-day gap between JEE (September 1-6) and NEET exam (September 13) was also an issue. The petitioners had moved the apex court to challenge a Kerala High Court order to dismiss their plea to set up examination centres abroad, or postpone the exams due to the pandemic. The Centre has already decided not to postpone the NEET and JEE exams. Supreme Court declines plea to set up NEET exam centre abroad

The board has sought details of students who failed to appear for exams due to the prevailing situation in the city. "The board has asked school principals to send the details to regional offices concerned of the CBSE of all such students of class 10, 12 who have missed out on the exams so far in Delhi, due to these difficult conditions," CBSE Secretary Anurag Tripathi said. "To reduce the stress on students, the board will conduct fresh exams for these students. The next date of exam for affected students will be notified shortly," he added. ACT exams were canceled with little warning this weekend, and some teens say they weren't notified until they arrived at testing sites

With the states divided on political lines over holding the NEET-JEE exams, BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh is ready with a plan to go all out to conduct the exams on schedule in September. As a first step the government has offered to double the number of centres for the NEET test and has banned frisking of candidates. They will be expected to go through a metal detector. This year the expected number of NEET candidates is going to be 58,860 and the state plans to have 144 centres as compared to last year's 84 centres for 54,445 candidates. Sources said Bhopal will have 35 centres for about 18,000 candidates. There were 15 centres last year for 12,000 candidates. Among the steps taken for the candidates' safety, alternate seats have been arranged for the JEE (Main) and NEET examinees. There will be 12 NEET candidates in each room. Students will go through thermal scanning. There will be separate entry and exit gates. Document verification will be done in two rooms in batches of 15 candidates each. Face masks will be mandatory. Sanitisation of the centres will be carried out before each test. Isolation wards will be prepared for students with high fever. Facility for disposal of gloves and masks for both the candidates and invigilators will be arranged. Only masks, gloves, hand sanitisers, water in transparent bottles, admit cards and ID cards will be allowed in the centres. The Congress-led opposition is opposing the holding of the exams. Former state Education Minister Jitu Patwari on Wednesday wrote to the Chief Minister to cancel the exams in view of the pandemic. "Like the rest of the world our country is also facing the pandemic. Covid had started infecting the state when you took charge in March. You failed to control it," wrote Patwari. "Under these circumstances, I request you not to permit conducting of the JEE/NEET examination," he said. He asked the state government to write to the Centre to cancel the exams. A senior official in the Education Department said the postponement of the examinations would hamper the academic calendar and cost thousands of students a precious year. "Shifting of the examination would call for a massive logistical exercise. Thousands of centres are to be contacted again for their availability. Also availability of supervisors and invigilators, movement of tonnes of materials and equipment like jammers and CCTV cameras are involved. "It takes almost three months to prepare for the examination for the administration. For the students, it takes even longer to prepare for the tests. If it is postponed again, it will ruin an academic year," he said. Madhya Pradesh is ready to push ahead with NEET-JEE exams

The board exams were held between February 22 and March 9 at 8,265 centres. The answer papers were checked between March 16 and 30, board officials said. "Prachi Nigam of Sitapur district was the <keyword id="19951608" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Class-10" source="keywords">Class 10</keyword> topper with 98.50 per cent marks. Shubham Verma, also from Sitapur, stood first in the <keyword id="19981413" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Class-12" source="keywords">Class 12</keyword> exam with 97.80 per cent," Education (Secondary) Director Mahendra Dev told PTI. The board conducted the examination in a "record-breaking" number of days, Dev said. "For the first time, the exam was conducted in a record 12 working days. The evaluation of answer sheets was completed in the same number of working days," he added. The officer said 27,49,364 (27.49 lakh) candidates -- 14,39,243 (14.39 lakh) boys and 13,10,121 (13.10 lakh) girls -- appeared for the Class 10 exam. Of the total, 86.05 per cent boys and 93.40 per cent girls cleared the exam. For Class 12, the number of candidates was 24,52,830 (24.52 lakh) -- 13,41,356 (13.41 lakh) boys and 11,11,474 (11.11 lakh) girls, Dev said. The pass percentage was 77.78 for boys and 88.42 for girls.

An unpleasant scene unfolded outside Mysuru's Sadvidya College - the exam centre for JEE exams when students wearing full sleeves were stopped from entering the examination hall for not abiding by the dress code. 
 
While a few students returned home to change, several others either resorted to cutting off their sleeves, or unclothing themselves right there to exchange clothes with their parents. 
 

	Local media reported that students were allowed inside only after they changed to half-sleeves. The rule was enforced after a cheating racket was exposed in All India Pre-Medical Test conducted by CBSE in 2015. At that time, wristwatches, full-sleeved shirts and earrings were banned. The rule was extended to other exams like IIT-JEE too.
 

	On Sunday, officials were busy frisking the students wearing full-sleeves thoroughly even as parents were seen requesting them to allow their children inside. While a few students were sent back minutes before the exam to change, others sought quick solutions like cutting off their sleeves at the exam centre itself. 
	 
	Some students reportedly even swapped clothes with their parents.There were also reports that a girl who had come in a full-sleeved kurta was sent back but she never returned. For some who couldn't go all the way back home, they decided to buy new shirts from nearby shops.
 

	On being questioned, Central Board of Secondary Education officials claimed that the invigilators were only doing their duty.

The top court asked CBSE and UGC to work in tandem to ensure that the careers of two lakh students giving the compartment exams, from September 22 to 29, are not jeopardized. During the hearing, the top court earlier asked the University Grants Commission (UGC) not to declare the academic calendar till September 24 but was later told that the calendar has been released. Taking a serious view of the release of academic calendar, the top court sought explanation from the UGC, to be given on Thursday, and directed that it be placed on record. "At what time and which date it was released, you will have to show this," the bench comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and Sanjiv Khanna said. "Don't give us vague dates. Give us the date and time when it was released. Whether it was after the order, before the order or when the matter was being heard. We will examine that," it added. The bench posted the matter on September 24 and asked both CBSE and UGC to coordinate to accommodate around two lakh students giving the compartment examinations. At the outset, <keyword id="9913577" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="senior-advocate-vivek-tankha">senior advocate Vivek Tankha</keyword>, appearing for one of the petitioners, said that CBSE compartment exams have commenced today and will continue up to September 29 and nearly two lakh students will appear in the compartment exams. Tankha said that UGC is also here and the CBSE should come out with the results at the earliest. "The UGC has to give us (students appearing in compartment exams) a chance to take admissions in universities," he said. Tankha argued that CBSE has to declare results early and UGC has to give us a chance of taking admission in colleges otherwise our one year will be lost. The bench asked Tankha that without CBSE declaring the results how can UGC accommodate the students. The senior lawyer contended that after the results are declared, UGC can give the students a chance to take admissions in colleges as the students are appearing in the exams during the <keyword id="43587" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="pandemic">pandemic</keyword> times. The bench asked UGC that because of peculiar situation is it possible for the commission to have some route open for accommodating these students who are appearing in compartment exams. To this, the counsel for UGC said that it can be done, if the seats are vacant but he will have to take instructions. The bench then told the counsel to take instructions and see whether these issues can be taken care of by the commission while asking when UGC intends to keep its cut-off date for admission. The counsel replied that he has to take instruction but it may be October end. Counsel for CBSE argued that there are 1,248 exam centres and answer sheets have to be brought to the regional centres. The top court said that these are not normal times but exceptional times and CBSE has to take steps as the career of two lakh students is too big. The counsel for CBSE replied that it will take 3-4 weeks (for declaration of results of compartment exam). The top court told the CBSE that it has to come out with some date so that UGC can take further steps and observed, "If you (CBSE) will not have the date, then UGC will have difficulty". When counsel for UGC said that it may have cut off date of October end, the bench said, "It could be the first week of November also". He said that UGC has already finalised the academic calendar and was about to release it. The bench asked UGC to not release it till Thursday and would hear the matter on that day to know about the views of CBSE. "Both of you coordinate and have a cut off date so that the other one can comply with it. This is only to accommodate these two lakh students. Two lakh is not a small number. Now the situation is beyond anyone's comprehension," the bench said. The bench observed that CBSE has to work in tandem with the UGC and it should be left to them on how to work it out. When one of the counsels told the bench that they have given a chart of dates given by colleges, the bench said, "We are not going to give directions to individual colleges". After the matter was over, the UGC's counsel mentioned the matter and told the bench that the academic calendar has already been released and the admission process has to be completed by October 31. "We will have it on Thursday. You explain this on that day," the bench said, adding, "You also place it on record." The counsel for UGC said, "I am sorry, I was misinformed about it". The bench said, "That's okay but it has to be explained how this miscommunication happened". On September 10, the top court said that the CBSE would not be able to help much the students taking compartment exams for class XII this month as it would be the colleges and universities which will take their admissions for higher studies. "Clarify the date of results," said the bench, noting that the CBSE will have to submit a fresh draft notification cancelling class 12 Board exams and affidavit on Friday morning, before the top court continues to hear the matter again at 10.30 a.m. The apex court also sought clarity on the beginning of the new academic year. It told Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, that the CBSE is willing to conduct exams when the situation is conducive, but this may vary from state to state. "Will the decision be taken by a central authority or will the state government take the decision? How are you going to deal with that situation?" Mehta replied that the decision must be taken according to the situation. To this, the bench said should not the solution be pan-India? "You have not said when you will decide on this issue, and when you will take stock of these things. Some time frame will have to be given," noted the bench. Continuing its queries, the bench said: "What about state regional board exams... the CBSE does not hold all the exams. The state Board is also there." Mehta replied that the instructions from the controller of examinations are that exams are controlled centrally. "State boards assist the CBSE," he replied. The bench observed that the government should modify the draft notification and include the state board issue. "Clear the stand that decision will be taken at the central level and not at the state level... other courses will have to be delayed till CBSE exam results come out," it said. Mehta replied the assessment results will be published now, and if a student wants to opt to give the exam, then that will be conducted later. The top court asked Mehta to bring this on record and redraft the notification.
