Shares of IT behemoth and the country's fourth-largest IT company, <keyword id="19945574" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Wipro" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Wipro" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Wipro">Wipro</keyword>, surged nearly 4% today after the company's board of directors approved a 1:1 <keyword id="20354022" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bonus-issue" source="keywords">bonus issue</keyword>. This also comes on the back of positive <keyword id="21421885" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Q2-results" source="keywords">Q2 results</keyword> declared by the company yesterday. The company's deal book saw a 28.8% QoQ and 16.8% YoY growth as its revenue grew to Rs 22,300 crore during the quarter and profits jumped to Rs 3,210 crore during the second quarter of FY25. Yesterday, the company posted a solid 21.2% YoY rise in its consolidated net profits, which stood at Rs 2,646.3 crore in the year-ago period. The company's revenue from the <keyword id="20069374" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IT-services" source="keywords">IT services</keyword> segment was at $2660.1 million, an increase of 1.3% QoQ and a decrease of 2.0% YoY. For the quarter ending December 31, 2024, the company expects revenue from its IT Services business segment to be in the range of $2,607 million to $2,660 million. Wipro CEO and MD Srini Pallia said that Q2 was driven by strong execution, which enabled the Bengaluru-based firm to meet its expectations for <keyword id="19965932" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="revenue-growth" source="keywords">revenue growth</keyword>, bookings, and margins. "We continued to expand our top accounts; large deal bookings surpassed $1 billion once again, and Capco maintained its momentum for another consecutive quarter. We grew in three out of four markets, as well as in <keyword id="19910880" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BFSI" source="keywords">BFSI</keyword>, consumer, technology, and communications sectors," he said. Total bookings for the quarter stood at $3,561 million, while large deal bookings were at $1,489 million, an increase of 28.8% QoQ and 16.8% YoY. The company's revenue from operations for the reporting quarter took a hit and stood at Rs 22,301.6 crore, a slight decline from Rs 22,515.9 crore in the year ago period. Pallia further noted that the company's revenue for the October-December quarter is expected to be affected by seasonal furloughs and fewer working days. As for sectoral contribution to the quarter's revenue, a maximum of 34.8% came from banking, financial services, and insurance. On the other end of the spectrum, manufacturing contributed the least at 6.2%. While the record date for bonus issue will be announced later, the credit of these bonus shares, priced at Rs 2 each, will be completed by December 15, 2024. Brokerage firm <keyword id="19969149" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nomura" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Nomura" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Nomura">Nomura</keyword> accords a "buy" rating to Wipro, with a target price of Rs 680/share. As of 2:50 pm today, the stock was trading at Rs 552.50.

Wipro announces 1:1 bonus issue; share surges 4% on the back of strong Q2 results

India’s Chief Economic Advisor (CEA), <keyword id="20690607" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="V-Anantha-Nageswaran" source="keywords">V Anantha Nageswaran</keyword>, remains optimistic about the nation’s economic prospects despite a slower-than-expected <keyword id="19972825" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="GDP-growth" source="keywords">GDP growth</keyword> in the second quarter of FY2024-25. Speaking at the Bharat @100 Summit hosted by Assocham, he said that the fundamental health of the economy remains robust, according to a report by aNI. Nageswaran highlighted several indicators demonstrating the economy’s resilience. “If you run through the checklist for the <keyword id="19948184" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-economy" source="keywords">Indian economy</keyword>, the health is pretty robust,” he noted, pointing to controlled levels of external debt as a share of GDP, declining non-performing assets in the banking system, and stable inflation trends. Although certain food items have caused inflationary spikes, their impact is limited within the overall consumer price index basket, he explained. The CEA praised the shift in fiscal expenditure priorities over the past seven years, with greater focus on capital investments rather than revenue spending. This reallocation, he suggested, has bolstered long-term economic stability and growth potential. India’s GDP growth for the July-September quarter was 5.4%, significantly below the Reserve Bank of India’s forecast of 7%. While this has sparked concerns among economists, Nageswaran urged against overreacting. Erratic monsoons and excessive rainfall disrupted economic activity in Q2, he explained, while global uncertainties and supply chain pressures further weighed on growth. Despite these challenges, he maintained confidence in the broader growth narrative, citing improvements in key economic metrics. For instance, India’s gross capital formation has risen from 27.3% of GDP in the second decade of the 2000s to 30.8% today. Private consumption remains steady, and exports—spanning both services and manufacturing—continue to perform well even amid challenging global conditions. Nageswaran also underscored India’s growing competitiveness in international trade. He noted that the nation’s total <keyword id="24325087" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="exports-as-a-percentage-of-GDP" source="keywords">exports as a percentage of GDP</keyword> now surpass China’s, showcasing its resilience and adaptability in a shifting global trade environment. However, he cautioned against reading too much into quarterly fluctuations, highlighting the impact of geopolitical developments such as trade restrictions from the US on critical minerals and rare earths, as well as policy shifts in China. Indian economy is resilient despite Q2 challenges, says CEA Nageswaran

Kolkata, Battery and flashlight major <keyword id="166960" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Eveready-industries" source="Orion">Eveready Industries</keyword> India Ltd (EIIL) on Tuesday reported a 73.5 per cent increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 25.44 crore for the second quarter of the current fiscal on easing input cost. The city-based company had posted a net profit of Rs 14.73 crore in the corresponding quarter last fiscal, the company said in a regulatory filing. Revenue from operation during the July-September quarter was lower by three per cent to Rs 364.9 crore as compared to Rs 375.7 crore in the year-ago period. Operating EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation) margin improved to 12.7 per cent from 11.4 per cent in the second quarter of the 2022-23 fiscal. Eveready Industries said the revenue performance was nearly flat owing to the distribution revamp, which is expected to normalise in the coming quarters. Battery-operated flashlights continued to degrow despite healthy growth in rechargeable category, it said. "Favourable trends in key raw materials and stability in exchange rate created suitable conditions for margin expansion," the company said in a statement. "Our emphasis to grow within our existing business mix saw us successfully execute a very complex route to market in our distribution structure," Eveready Industries Managing Director Suvamoy Saha said. The initial moderation in uptake in batteries is expected to resolve in the coming quarters as stocks get replenished via more efficient pathways, he said. In its revamp journey with the new management under the Dabur family, Eveready has also unveiled a new logo and a tagline, aiming at wooing the new generation of consumers.

Eveready Q2 FY'24 net profit jumps 73% on easing input cost

The stock tanked 6.59% to ₹2,483.95 on the NSE. The stock emerged as the biggest laggard among the Sensex and Nifty firms during the morning trade. Hindustan Unilever Ltd on Wednesday reported a 2.33% decline in consolidated net profit at ₹2,595 crore for the second quarter ended in September 2024, impacted by moderation in demand from the urban market. The company had logged a net profit of ₹2,657 crore in the July-September quarter a year ago, HUL said in a regulatory filing. However, revenue from product sales was up 2.36% at ₹15,703 crore in the September quarter, from ₹15,340 crore in the year-ago period, HUL which owns power brands such as Surf, Rin, Lux, Pond's, Lifebuoy, Lakme, Brooke Bond, Lipton and Horlicks said. "In the September quarter, <keyword id="21419477" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FMCG-demand" source="keywords">FMCG demand</keyword> witnessed moderating growth in urban markets, while rural continued to recover gradually. In this context, we delivered a competitive and profitable performance," HUL CEO and Managing Director Rohit Jawa said. HUL reported an underlying sales growth of 2% and underlying volume growth of 3%. Total expenses were at ₹12,581 crore in the September quarter, up 3.03% year-on-year. HUL's total income, which includes other income, was up 2.14% to ₹16,145 crore in the September quarter of FY25. Addressing an earnings call, HUL CFO Ritesh Tiwari said, "Two thirds of our business we do in urban areas, and one-third we do in rural areas … we are seeing growth in the urban market moderating. We are seeing rural growth recovery is gradual … it impacts all the categories that we have." On the outlook, he said, "In the near term, we expect demand trends to be stable with no further acceleration in pace of growth." In this context, Tiwari said, "Our focus remains on driving competitive volume-led growth, while continuing investments behind our brands and strategy priorities … If commodity prices remain where they are, we expect a low single digit price growth in the near-term." Hindustan Unilever shares tumble over 6% post Q2 results

Food and grocery delivery behemoth <keyword id="19901323" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Zomato" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Zomato" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Zomato">Zomato</keyword> declared its <keyword id="23466580" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Q2FY25-results" source="keywords">Q2FY25 results</keyword> today. The company's revenue from operations stood at Rs 4,799 crore, up from Rs 2,848 crore from the year-ago period. Zomato's GOV (gross order value) for its B2C business was at Rs 17,670 crore, a 55% YoY growth. On a like-for-like basis, i.e., excluding the impact of the acquisition of <keyword id="19898109" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Paytm" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Paytm" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Paytm">Paytm</keyword>'s ticketing business, the GOV growth stood at 53% YoY. However, the company's <keyword id="19942166" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="net-profit" source="keywords">net profit</keyword> skyrocketed, jumping by 389% YoY. For the quarter ended September 30, 2024, Zomato's net profit stood at Rs 176 crore, significantly up from the Rs 36 crore level in the year-ago period. Ahead of the IPO of rival food and grocery delivery competitor <keyword id="19896956" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swiggy" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Swiggy" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Swiggy">Swiggy</keyword>, Zomato's board also approved the raising of Rs 8,500 crore through qualified institutional placement of equity shares. “While the business is now generating cash (vis-à-vis a loss-making business at the time of the IPO), we believe that we need to enhance our cash balance given the competitive landscape and the much larger scale of our business today,” said the company, explaining the fundraise. Additionally, in a letter to shareholders, Founder and CEO <keyword id="19901325" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Deepinder-Goyal" source="keywords">Deepinder Goyal</keyword> shared that the "District" app, a new platform aimed at consolidating going-out services such as dining, movies, sports ticketing, live performances, shopping, and staycations, is expected to go live within the next month. "At this point, we are focused on making sure we do a good job at migrating the business from the Zomato and Paytm platforms to the new District app," Goyal added. During the reported quarter, Zomato made many notable acquisitions, which include Orbgen Technologies Private Ltd (OTPL) and Wasteland Entertainment Pvt Ltd (WEPL). These were the holding companies of Paytm's' movie ticketing' business and events business, respectively. In the letter to shareholders, the company's Chief Financial Officer, Akshant Goyal, shared that its cash balance had reduced by Rs 1,726 crore as compared to the previous quarter, mainly on account of the deal consideration of Rs 2,014 crore for the acquisition of Paytm's entertainment ticketing business.". <keyword id="20069203" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Blinkit" source="keywords">Blinkit</keyword>, Zomato's quick commerce business, saw a 129% year-on-year growth in adjusted revenues, which touched Rs 1,156 crore. Blinkit's gross order value (GOV) also saw a 122% year-on-year increase to Rs 6,132 crore. Blinkit saw massive improvements on almost all operational metrics. The average order value jumped from Rs 607 in the year-ago period to Rs 660 in Q2 FY25. The average GOV per day per store also inched up from 757 in Q2FY24 to 981 in Q2FY25. Similarly, orders also skyrocketed from 45.5 million in the year-ago period to 92.9 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2024. As for Zomato's <keyword id="20299302" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="food-delivery" source="keywords">food delivery</keyword> business, the average monthly transacting users also inched up from 18.4 million in Q2 FY24 to 20.7 million in Q2 FY25. The results did not do much to move Zomato's stock on the bourses, which fell by 3.44% during the day to close at Rs 256.55.

Zomato's net profit jumps 389% YoY, board approves Rs 8,500 crore fund-raise proposal

The company's revenue for the quarter stood at Rs 28,057 crore, registering a 1.6% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) decline and a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 6.7%. The company's <keyword id="20387237" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="EBIT" source="keywords">EBIT</keyword> (earnings before interest and tax) was Rs 4,795 crore, down 4.4% QoQ but up 7.5% YoY. The company also declared an <keyword id="397990" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="interim-dividend" source="Orion">interim dividend</keyword> of Rs 12 per share, making April–June 2024 the 86th consecutive quarter where the company paid out dividends. The company's net income also jumped from Rs 3,534 crore in June 2023 to Rs 4,257 crore in June, 2024. The company's new deals secured during the quarter, or total contract value (TCV), were around $1,960 million. Its employee workforce as of June 30th, 2024, stood at 2,19,401. The company let go of 8,080 employees during the quarter. However, its attrition rate came down to 12.8% during the quarter, down from 16.3% in Q1 FY24. At the close of trade today, HCL Tech's stock was trading at Rs 1,561.75, up by 3.30%. The company's operating cash flows (OCF) for the quarter stood at $2,722 million, while its free cash flows (FCF) were around $2,604 million. Revenues at HCLTech Services saw a dip of 1.9% on a QoQ basis but rose by 5.8% on a YoY basis, in constant currency terms. <h2>Looking ahead</h2>In FY25, the company expects its revenue growth to be in the range of 3-5% on a year-over-year basis, in constant currency terms. Its revenue from services is also set to grow within the same estimates. The company also anticipates its EBIT margins to be between 18 and 19% in FY25. Per its reports, the company's top 20 clients contributed 30.1% of its total revenue. Service revenue from the <keyword id="20049715" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="americas" source="keywords">Americas</keyword> saw the maximum jump of 8% on a year-on-year basis, in constant currency terms. As of June 30, 2023, the revenue mix from the Americas was at 64.5%, which grew to 66% this quarter. Opposed to this, the rest of the world's share of the revenue mix dipped by 6.8% as of June 30th, 2023, to 6.1% as of June 30th, 2024. Amidst the company's verticals, the telecommunications, media, publishing &amp; entertainment vertical registered the maximum YoY growth of 69.2%, jumping to 12.2% last quarter from 7.6% as of June 30th, 2023. During the quarter, the company lost 4 clients worth over $20 million and gained 9 clients worth over $5 million. On a year-on-year basis, the company added 14 clients worth $5 million to its base.

HCL Tech Q1 results: Company reports better than expected results, revenue jumps 6.7% YoY

While its operating <keyword id="19945274" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="revenue" source="keywords">revenue</keyword> for the quarter was Rs 1,502 crore, its earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (<keyword id="19957744" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="EBITDA" source="keywords">EBITDA</keyword>) for the quarter was in negative, at Rs 792 crore. The net device subscriber base (for Paytm sound box) inched up to 1.09 crore during June 2024, up from 79 lakh in June 2023. On the <keyword id="19900016" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="payment-services" source="keywords">payment services</keyword> front, the quarterly revenue stood at Rs 900 crore, which was largely dented due to closure of PPBL (Paytm Payment Bank Limited) accounts, owing to RBI directives. The same stood at Rs 2,342 crore during the year-ago period. For Q1FY25,the company registered a gross merchandise value (GMV) of Rs 4.3 lakh crore, and a net payment margin of Rs 383 crore. The company expects the annual payment processing margin (including <keyword id="19900911" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="upi" source="keywords">UPI</keyword> incentives, which gets paid in Q4 of every financial year) to be in the range of 5-6 bps. On the financial and <keyword id="20257159" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="marketing-services" source="keywords">marketing services</keyword> front, the revenue for April-June 2024 was Rs 280 crore and Rs 321 crore, respectively. The revenue from marketing services, which includes advertising, and ticketing for travel, movies and events, was down largely due to seasonality of this business. Overall, Paytm's net loss the quarter stood at Rs 840 crore, significantly up from Rs 357 crore in the year ago period. <h2>Low Sounds from Sound Box, UPI </h2>The company highlighted that its per device subscription revenue had tanked, and expects it to rise in the coming days, as it pushed for new merchant signups and redeployment from inactive merchants. Additionally, the company is awaiting permission to begin onboarding new UPI customers, which would help it drive up the number of its monthly transacting users. As of June 30, 2024 the company's monthly transacting users (MTU) stood at 7.8 crore, down from 8.9 crore in March 2024 and about 10.4 crore in January this year. <h2>Rise in loan disbursal </h2>In its release, the company noted that it is "expanding its loan cross-selling by integrating more types of loans from our partners, including secured credit like loan against property and gold loans". The value of merchant loans it disbursed during the quarter was Rs 2,508 crore, and about 50% of these were availed by repeat borrowers. The average ticket size in this category also jumped up from Rs 2,25,000 to Rs 1,90,000, with an average tenure of 13 months. As for personal loans, the company disbursed loans worth Rs 2,500 crore during the quarter. Here, the average ticket size and tenure remained stable at Rs 1,35,000 and 16 months, respectively. About 1.1% of the monthly transacting users on Paytm avail such loans. The company also reported a rise in number of credit cards activated in June 2024, which stood at 12.8 lakh, as compared to 7.5 lakh last year. At present, the company has 6 active partners for credit card distribution. <h2>Compliance first approach </h2>The company saw in uptick in its indirect costs from Rs 1,220 crore in June 2023 to Rs 1,301 crore as of June 2024, which it attributed to higher marketing costs to create awareness regarding new partnerships in the payments business as TPAP (third party application provider), Its software, cloud and data centre expenses increased QoQ (from Rs 162 crore in March 2024 to Rs 182 crore in June 2024) due to one-time charges relating to the migration to the TPAP model. However, the company expects this cost to come down in upcoming quarters. Going ahead, Paytm will largely focus on reactivating existing dormant UPI customers. "Once we are allowed new UPI user onboarding, we will acquire new monetizable customers with discipline on acquisition costs", the release said. Apart from this, it also aims on enhancing credit distribution, expanding secured lending products , allocating more resources to insurance distribution and mutual fund distribution, "which offer large monetization opportunities" and maintaining a stringent focus on compliance first approach across their businesses. Paytm Q1FY25 results: Revenue from payment services plunges to Rs 900 crore, monthly transacting users in June dip to 7.8 crore

India's second-largest IT behemoth managed to beat industry estimates with its Q1FY25 results, which were announced today. The company's <keyword id="19942166" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="net-profit" source="keywords">net profit</keyword> saw a YoY rise of 7.1% to touch Rs 6,368 crore. The company's <keyword id="19945274" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="revenue" source="keywords">revenue</keyword> rose 3.6% YoY to reach Rs 39,315 crore, as compared to Rs 37,933 crore in the year-ago period. The company managed to add 87 new clients to its base during the quarter. As of June 30th, 2023, the company had an active clientele of 1,867. The financial services segment was the biggest contributor (at 27.5%) to the IT giant's total revenue during the quarter. However, <keyword id="19914449" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="manufacturing" source="keywords">manufacturing</keyword> registered the highest YoY growth, contributing 14.7% to the revenue between April-June 2024. This was a reported increase of 6.4%, up from 14.1% during April-June 2023. Revenue shares of other segments, including retail, communication, energy and utilities sunk during the quarter. Notably, the company's TCV (<keyword id="1149731" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="total-contract-value" source="Orion">total contract value</keyword>) for the quarter stood at $4.1 billion. Its free cash flows also swelled significantly on a YoY basis, up from $699 million during April-June 2023 to $1,094 million as of June 30th, 2023. <h2>Fall in headcount</h2>The company's <keyword id="20752187" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="employee-count" source="keywords">employee count</keyword> saw a dip for the 6th consecutive quarter, slipping by 1,908 during the quarter. With this, the company's current employee count stands at 3,15,332. In terms of geographical contribution to revenue, India reported a 18.4% YoY increase, up from 2.7% during April-June 2023 to 3.1% in April-June 2024. HPCL posts Rs 5,827 crore profit in Q2 2023-24

New Delhi, Business services provider <keyword id="6370333" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Quess-Corp" source="Orion">Quess Corp</keyword> has reported 79 per cent year-on-year jump in profit after tax at Rs 70.95 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, riding on operational efficiencies. The company had reported a profit after tax (PAT) of Rs 39.62 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. Total revenue of the company grew 11 per cent to Rs 4,748 crore, from Rs 4,273 crore in the year-ago period, a company statement said. "This growth is due to focused efforts over the last few quarters in developing greater automation in our platforms, building operational efficiencies and focusing on high margin businesses," Group CEO Guruprasad Srinivasan said. Srinivasan further said the higher margin platforms, GTS and OAM have delivered a consistent increase in profitability along with improvement in margins over the last few quarters. The listed subsidiary, AllSec has surpassed a market cap of Rs 1,000 crore with a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 23 per cent from the initial investment in 2019, Srinivasan said. "We remain bullish about future growth prospects and our consolidation efforts have started to yield positive results to help us realize non-linear profit growth from our all-weather business model," he added. For the first half of this financial year, the company reported a PAT of Rs 119 crore, up 10 per cent over the same period a year ago. Revenue increased 13 per cent to Rs 9,349 crore in the April-September period of this year, the statement said. Shares of Quess Corp were trading at Rs 439.25 apiece, up 2.82 per cent over the previous close on BSE.

Quess Corp Q2 2023-24 PAT rises 79% to Rs 71 cr

New Delhi, <keyword id="188376" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="LT-Foods" source="Orion">LT Foods</keyword> Ltd on Monday reported a 64.86 per cent rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 157.26 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, helped by expansion in domestic and foreign markets. It had reported a net profit of Rs 95.39 crore for the July-September quarter a year ago, according to a regulatory filing by LT Foods Ltd, which owns basmati rice brands -- Daawat and Royal. Its revenue from operation increased 14.66 per cent to Rs 1,977.78 crore during the quarter under review. It was Rs 1,724.83 crore a year ago. The total expenses in the September quarter surged 11.94 per cent to Rs 1,792.33 crore. Its total income in the September quarter rose 15.02 per cent year-on-year to Rs 1,991.81 crore. LT Foods Managing Director and CEO Ashwani Arora said: "Our ongoing efforts to expand our presence in India and International markets have yielded substantial results, with our total business growing by 13 per cent during H1 FY24 and profit after tax (PAT) grew by 55 per cent". LT Foods is a leading player globally in the speciality rice and rice-based foods business. Over the outlook, Arora said in response to the evolving consumer trends and preferences, LT Foods will grow its core business and innovate and introduce new product offerings diversifying its product portfolio. "We are confident of continued improvement in our performance over the long term and in our ability to deliver consistent, sustainable, profitable, and responsible growth," he said. Shares of LT Foods Ltd on Monday were trading at Rs 162.25 on BSE during the afternoon, down 0.46 per cent from the previous close.
