After all, our shared Italian heritage really bonded us during our early days of dating.When we began mapping out our trip, we planned to visit historical sites in Rome, sip wine in the Tuscan countryside, and explore the colorful hillside towns and turquoise waters of the Amalfi Coast.I was perhaps most excited for our four-night stay on the Amalfi Coast, which was named one of the best honeymoon destinations for 2024 by <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cntraveller.com/gallery/honeymoon-destinations">Condé Nast Traveller</a>.Although the Amalfi Coast is absolutely gorgeous, and we enjoyed our time there, I left feeling like something was missing from the experience.When we returned home and told our family and friends about this portion of our honeymoon, many were shocked to hear that my husband and I had <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/least-favorite-places-to-travel-to-according-to-frequent-traveler-2024-6">no desire to return</a>.Here's why our trip to the Amalfi Coast didn't quite live up to our expectations.<h2 id="020fcb27-303f-43aa-96bc-2b42a240dbcc">We rarely found sidewalks along the busiest roads</h2><div type="image" title="A car going up a steep hill with lots of signs around. There are houses going up the mountain." height="3000" width="4000" msid="113069118" hostid="261" sizebytes="1807208"></div>As soon as we were dropped off alongside the busy road outside our Airbnb, I noticed one thing — there weren't sidewalks or pedestrian walkways. As my husband and I explored the town we were staying in, we clung to the walls on the side of the road as buses and motorbikes sped by.We found that the majority of the towns we visited along the coast didn't have sidewalks either, which meant getting around on foot felt a little more difficult and dangerous than we expected. Although the locals didn't seem phased, I was a little nervous about walking down the busier streets.<h2 id="09cc1871-aae6-4df8-94c8-5f72dd403bd2">The steps and steep inclines were more intense than I expected</h2>My twice-weekly <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/doing-pilates-for-20-years-strengthened-body-throughout-life-2024-3">Pilates classes</a> did not prepare me for the hundreds of steps and steep inclines of the Amalfi Coast.One night, we decided to visit a gorgeous seaside restaurant in Praiano. When figuring out the best way to get there, we discovered it was only a 40-minute walk from our Airbnb. Since it was a nice night, we decided to give it a go. However, I didn't realize the walk would be more like a hike.Before leaving home, I had been warned about the many steps on the Amalfi Coast, but I severely underestimated how difficult it would actually be to get around on foot.In all fairness, I did visit in July, when temperatures reached up to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Although the heat definitely made the steps harder to conquer, I'm not sure I would have fared much better in cooler temperatures.<h2 id="4e5cc1ac-d426-46ed-8334-2232ba546c24">A lot of the Amalfi Coast felt like a tourist trap</h2><div type="image" title="People walk down the steps near colorful buildings in Positano." height="2762" width="3683" msid="113069115" hostid="261" sizebytes="1032016"></div>As someone who grew up right outside <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/where-to-eat-in-new-york-city-restaurants-according-to-local">New York City</a>, I can typically smell a tourist trap from a mile away. To me, a lot of the most popular destinations on the Amalfi Coast felt as though they were specifically designed for tourists.I guess this makes sense since the coast attracts <a target="_blank" href="https://www.euronews.com/travel/2024/07/02/amalfi-coast-one-of-italys-most-popular-destinations-is-getting-its-own-airport-this-summe">roughly 5 million visitors</a> a year. However, the coast felt like a far cry from the more authentic Italian experience I was expecting to find.For example, while wandering the gorgeous streets near the port in Positano, we found that many of the gelato shops were owned by the same company. The gelato was delicious, but I was a little disappointed that we couldn't sample flavors from a variety of different local merchants.When I travel, I also love checking out the products from local vendors. In Positano and Amalfi, I was looking for one-of-a-kind mementos and handcrafted pieces but mostly found dresses and pottery that looked nearly identical from place to place.In my experience, it was hard to find authenticity in many of the tourist-filled locations on the coast. Although we genuinely enjoyed our experience there, I preferred immersing myself in the culture of the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/things-do-differently-next-trip-to-italy-2023-10">small towns</a> we visited in Tuscany.<h2 id="d83b8099-2cb1-4c4e-8bff-082aa4a28105">In our experience, the public transportation wasn't super reliable</h2>When I was researching and planning our trip, one of the No. 1 tips I read was <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/things-to-know-visiting-amalfi-coast-busy-season-first-time">not to rent a car on the Amalfi Coast</a>. After all, the steep, winding cliffside roads are not for the faint of heart.With this advice in mind, we decided to use <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tips-for-visiting-los-angeles-without-car-using-public-transportation-2023-10">public transportation</a> to get around. Although we loved how cheap the buses were (typically less than 3 euros per person), we soon discovered that they rarely showed up at the scheduled times.This led us to have to cancel reservations and plans, which was disappointing since we were only in town for a few days. Additionally, we found the taxis to be quite expensive — one 15-minute drive cost us 50 euros.Because navigating public transportation quickly became draining, we ended up spending more time at our Airbnb than at the beach.<h2 id="f79ab41e-c6f6-434a-bfd5-79122606c7ac">That said, we still loved our time on the Amalfi Coast</h2><div type="image" title="Stephanie and her husband pose on a pier near the sea. But next time we return to Italy, we'll probably stick to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-lesser-known-italy-travel-destinations-according-to-local">less-touristy areas</a> to really immerse ourselves in the local culture.

Let me introduce you to Italy's newest luxury rail service: La Dolce Vita.With overnight suites for two people ranging from 6,600 euros (around $7,200) to 25,000 euros (around $27,000) per night, the train is a modern reimagination of the famed <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/orient-express-train-sister-london-travel-see-inside-photos-2022-4">Orient Express</a> that transported passengers across Europe from 1883 until 1977. "The Orient Express La Dolce Vita is an ode to Italian seduction," a brochure for the train reads. Instead, the trains will make various pit stops along their routes with time allotted for passengers to get out and explore. Following the cruise industry's lead, all meals, beverages, and excursions will be included in the train's ticket price, according to its website. Guests will also have access to Orient Express hotels in Rome and Venice, scheduled to open in late 2024 and 2025. <h2>How train travel became trendy again</h2><div type="image" title="Orient Express La Dolce Vita restaurant" height="1873" width="2498" msid="101936382" hostid="261"></div>It's easy to see why wealthy travelers are already putting money down to reserve a spot on the luxurious train.While the six train sets remain under construction at a factory in Brindisi, Italy, enough people have already pre-registered for La Dolce Vita to fill the train's 2024 availability, <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2023-07-08/luxury-italian-night-train-offers-exclusive-trips-from-rome-and-through-sicily" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bloomberg reported</a> in July. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Russia's invasion of <keyword id="11985141" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="ukraine" source="Orion">Ukraine</keyword> has been felt throughout the whole world, financially and emotionally.</li><li>In a worst-case economic scenario, McKinsey says that Europe and the US could fall into <keyword id="12460783" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="recession" source="Orion">recession</keyword>.</li></ul>Putin's invasion of Ukraine has shaken the world, as countries around the globe heap sanctions on Russia, Ukrainians are <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-putin-destroyed-ukrainians-share-their-last-photo-normal-life-2022-3">thrust into a new wartime reality</a>, and the world is missing out on two major <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ukraine-russia-bread-food-prices-civil-unrest-arab-spring-egypt-2022-3">food</a> suppliers.Now, management consulting firm McKinsey has published a <a href="https://www.mckinsey.com/business-functions/strategy-and-corporate-finance/our-insights/war-in-ukraine-lives-and-livelihoods-lost-and-disrupted">report</a> laying out how the ongoing conflict could impact economies all over the globe.Both Russia and Ukraine are already facing down dire economic circumstances. As sanctions roil the Russian <keyword id="11893570" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="economy" source="Orion">economy</keyword>, it could fall into recession as <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/russia-recession-second-quarter-before-summer-economist-evgeny-nadorshin-2022-3">early as this April</a>. The International Monetary Fund said that Ukraine's economy could potentially shrink by a third this year <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ukraine-economy-could-shrink-by-a-third-this-year-imf-2022-3">amidst the invasion</a>. For everyday Russians, many of whom may not support the war, the invasion has disrupted the country's <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/russias-economy-recovered-pandemic-economic-sanctions-ukraine-invasion-shatter-2022-3">previously strong economic recovery</a> from the pandemic.The outlook isn't good for the global economy either. McKinsey analysts look at several scenarios. In one, the situation is "severe" and "escalating," as it gets longer and bigger; sanctions ramp up, the refugee crisis grows more dire, and <keyword id="11893875" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="markets" source="Orion">markets</keyword> get disrupted while countries use a moderate policy response as they exit pandemic-era stimulus programs. In that scenario, the US and eurozone, which is comprised of European countries who use the euro as currency, could even end up spiraling into a recession as refugees continue to pour in, food and gas prices continue to spike, and overall inflation continues to grow.<h2>Prices in the US could continue to climb as economic growth slows</h2>While the US' economic recovery from the pandemic seems to be chugging along, inflation is still high. The prices of just about everything — especially the things American <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/inflation-outlook-analysis-worsening-for-goods-services-americans-need-most-2022-3">need the most</a> like food and gas — are going up.The Fed <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/federal-reserve-hikes-interest-rates-inflation-higher-costs-loans-mortgages-2022-3">has stepped in</a> to try and cool that inflation by raising interest rates for the first time during the pandemic era, and will very likely keep increasing rates throughout the year, which would make borrowing more expensive and therefore reduce demand for loans and credit cards. Although, as <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/federal-reserve-interest-rate-hike-inflation-fight-tightening-monetary-policy-2022-3">Insider's Ben Winck reports</a>, how many times rates will rise and the effect they will have on the broader economy is still unclear."It appears that the invasion of Ukraine will only slow the pace of interest-rate hikes, not change the course of policy in the United States," McKinsey says. While rising interest rates could quell spending and ease inflation, uncertainty around the invasion may mean the Fed approaches this tool with a slower schedule.If there is "severe" and "escalating" disruption, oil prices would stay high — and confidence would get "shaken" — leading everyone to spend less. That would spell recession for the US.Indeed, there could be "strong potential" for recession in the US, as inflation remains high in 2022 and 2023, according to <a href="https://www.tcw.com/en/Insights/2022/2022-03-08-Trading-Secrets">asset management firm TCW</a>. It may just be a throwback to the economy of the 1970's, where <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-is-stagflation-explained-oil-outlook-low-growth-high-inflation-2021-10">stagflation</a> — stalled growth, paired with high prices — was the name of the game.<h2>A refugee crisis could fuel Europe's economic troubles</h2>Central Europe's "refugee crisis" could worsen as the war goes on. The UN has already said that the refugee crisis in Ukraine is beyond its "worst-case scenario," with about <a href="https://www.iom.int/ukraine-iom-response-2022">10 million Ukrainians</a> already fleeing their homes.Under the severe scenario that McKinsey writes about, Europe would see gas prices more than double, and inflation shoot up over 7%. For the eurozone, that spells recession in 2022 and 2023, with inflation finally easing by the middle of 2023, and employment and growth not fully recovering until 2024. Europe already took a big financial blow from the pandemic, seeing a "double-dip" recession, <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/business-56940720">according to the BBC</a>. The eurozone fell into its second recession in <a href="https://apnews.com/article/europe-business-health-coronavirus-pandemic-economy-3f8f17437a6b78376767d484bb6f1395">early 2021</a> after the initial shock from the early pandemic in spring 2020.

This segment of digital health is expected to outpace the overall digital health growth rate - from 2017, it's forecast to grow at an annualized rate of 35% to $200 billion by 2024.Nokia's has made a number of moves in the digital health space beyond its acquisition of Withings:<ul><li>The company launched its Health Mate <a href="https://health.nokia.com/us/en/health-mate">app</a> in June. The app will serve as a central hub for consumers to evaluate data collected from Withings' existing health tracking wearables line-up as well as forthcoming products.</li><li>The business unit's growth strategy is focusing on patent, technology, and brand licensing to facilitate faster growth in the market. The company uses a transparent screen cover and a mobile app to sharpen the display, essentially replacing glasses for older citizens.</li><li>1Drop is a low-cost blood glucose measurement solution. Users place a device on the back of their smartphones over their camera, which is then used to perform colorimetric analysis of a blood sample.</li></ul>The two companies will likely bolster Samsung's larger digital health push. In 2014, the firm launched the Samsung Digital Health Initiatives, which uses open hardware and software platforms to accelerate the development of digital health technology. Samsung also invested $50 million into a start-up fund for digital health companies. The tech giant's strategy is to farm innovative startups and then invest, acquire or partner those that show potential. In contrast, Samsung's top competitor Apple, uses its deep pockets to develop digital technologies internally. GROWING USE OF CONSUMER HEALTH APPS AND ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORDS DRIVES PRIVACY CONCERNS: The lack of transparency and regulation around how health and wellness apps collect and use personal information should be a big concern for consumers, <a href="https://www.healthdatamanagement.com/news/health-wellness-apps-pose-risks-to-consumer-privacy" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">according</a> to Rice University medical media expert Kirsten Ostherr. Speaking at a Department of Health and Human Services symposium in Washington last week, Ostherr suggested that this could lead to broader data privacy issues, particularly given the lack of awareness around how data breaches, such as the one experienced by Equifax, could affect internal electronic health record (EHR) systems. EHRs are becoming increasingly widespread, particularly by hospitals in the US.
