Besides, most of the paper manufacturers have reportedly taken a price hike due to low collection of waste paper, a key raw material for manufacturing recycled paper after the European Union (EU) banned exports of waste paper in October 2021. This was because the sudden digitalisation led by the pandemic had dipped the demand for paper. There are two types of paper -- recycled and mills’ paper. Recycled papers are made from waste paper, while mills’ paper are made from wood pulp. Generally, prices of mills’ paper trade are at a premium to recycled paper. Analysts at Centrum Institutional Research said that there has never been a situation in the last 40 years when recycled paper prices have been more than mills' paper. Further, analysts expect strong earnings growth for the sector over the next couple of quarters led by favourable price hikes and uptick in demand. “With (the) impact of pandemic receding, schools, colleges, offices and courts have opened up full-fledged. With [an] uptick in demand, distributors have started stocking inventory. Also, inflationary trend has led to higher than normal demand at distributor level. Thus, the troika of demand normalisation, higher level of demand at channels and favourable pricing has created a happy scenario for [the] likes of JK, West Coast and Andhra Paper. Paper manufacturing company stocks are in big demand since last couple of days and here’s why

Varun Berry, the chief executive (CEO) of Britannia, wants to increase prices of Britannia products. The inflation rate has increased to around 6-7% compared to April-June 2021. Meanwhile, fuel prices have increased another 1-2%, which has hit the company’s supply chain. “It’s a very high inflation number that we are currently sitting on. A situation like this, just necessitates [price increase]. Cost efficiency can never take care of this kind of inflation. Two-three percent we can usually take care of, but this necessitates price increase and that’s why we move forward with that,” Britannia’s chief executive officer Varun Berry, said in a call with analysts on August 2. Lux, which used to cost ₹22 in April 2020, was priced at ₹28 in May 2021. The company had also indicated this price rise in its earning call for April-June quarter of FY2021. “We are taking some judicious price increases in parts of our portfolio. Some of it has already landed and some of it will land in due course because the quantum of inflation is a lot. And also, we'll do it in parts of the portfolio where it makes sense,” Srinivas Phatak, former chief financial officer (CFO) of Hindustan Unilever <a href="https://www.hul.co.in/Images/jq-2020-transcript---final_tcm1255-553839_1_en.pdf">said</a>. He has currently taken up a global finance role at Unilever’s London head office. Nuvoco, which is one of the largest cement players in east India, is a subsidiary of the Nirma Group, famous for its eponymous detergent brand. Nirma Group entered the cement business in 2014 by acquiring Switzerland based LafargeHolcim in 2016 and NU Vista, formerly known as Emami Cement in 2020. Gujarat-based Nirma Group is a diversified conglomerate that manufactures products ranging from chemicals to detergents, soaps, healthcare products and real estate development. With a strong promoter backing the Nuvoco Vistas grew from a cement based firm to offering various building materials like mixed concrete, cement, wall putty, blocks, plaster, and more. Over the years, Nuvoco Vistas has become the largest cement company in east India in terms of capacity (22.32 million metric tonnes per annum). The company’s cement plants are located in the states of West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand in east India and Rajasthan and Haryana in north India. Adding to it is the fact that the company holds a dominant position in east India with 17% market share in terms of capacity. <div type="image" title="Nuvoco peers" height="900" width="1200" msid="85177110" hostid="261"></div> “The country’s demand growth is likely to be led by east and central regions and will be primarily from affordable housing and infrastructure creation and the cement sector is expected to largely benefit from it. One biggest drawback for the company is its high debt. As of December 31, 2020, its net debt stood at ₹7,259 crore. The company intends to use the proceeds from the fresh issue to pay some of its debt. The cement manufacturer’s valuation is at a discount to its large cap peers as it partially factors high debt and low returns on capital employed (ROCE), said a report by IDBI Capital. “But given [the] up-cycle in the cement industry and expectation of improvement in margin and balance sheet deleveraging over FY21-23 earnings estimate we recommend subscribe,” added the report. GSK merger became a pain killer for HUL

<keyword id="6356109" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="diesel">Diesel</keyword> has extended its gain over petrol in Delhi as oil marketing companies raised its price in the city by 25 paisa a litre on Tuesday after keeping auto fuel prices hanged for the last seven days. With the increase, diesel is priced at Rs 80.78 a litre in the National Capital, up from Rs 80.53 a litre on Monday. The oil companies, however, kept petrol prices unchanged across the country, resulting in diesel extending its gain in Delhi from 10 paisa earlier to 35 paisa now. Delhi is the only metro city where Diesel is priced higher than petrol and this has been maintained since June 24, when for the time ever the transportation fuel climbed up over petrol. Apart from Delhi, diesel is still cheaper than petrol by Rs 6-8 per litre in other metro cities. Diesel is priced at Rs 79.05 a litre in <keyword id="6358070" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="mumbai">Mumbai</keyword> that is an increase of 22 paisa over Monday's price, at Rs 77.91 a litre in <keyword id="12864" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chennai">Chennai</keyword> (19 paisa increase) and Rs 75.89 a litre in <keyword id="6354925" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="kolkata">Kolkata</keyword> (25 paisa increase). Officials in oil marketing companies said that diesel prices are seeing more volatility in international market so the price changes in the fuel segment has been higher. But with global oil prices also rising again and set to touch $43 a barrel, the expectation is that fuel prices may again see an uptick in coming days. Before Tuesday, Fuel prices have remained unchanged for the seven consecutive days since June 30 across the four metros. Prices of the transportation fuel have had a pause after rising to record levels in 23 of the past 31 days after the oil marketing companies (OMC) resumed the daily price revision system from June 7 that kept the petrol and diesel prices to rise incessantly till June 29. During the daily hike till June 29, diesel prices in Delhi recorded a new feat by overtaking petrol prices, making the common man feel the heat. Diesel extends gain over petrol in Delhi after 7-day pause

New Delhi, Jan 29 () Leading stock exchanges BSE and NSE will shift several scrips to the restricted trading segment from Thursday to ensure safety of investors in the capital markets.
 BSE will shift as many as 30 stocks, including McDowell Holdings, Emami Realty, United Van Der Horst, Hindustan Everest Tools, Technofab Engineering and Lactose India, to the trade-for-trade segment represented by T or XT groups.
 At the same time, NSE would transfer 13 scrips to the trade-for-trade segment segment on its platform.
 In this segment, no speculative trading is allowed and delivery of shares and payment of consideration amount are mandatory.
 With a view to take preventive surveillance measure to ensure market safety and safeguard the interest of the investors, BSE and NSE have decided to move shares of these companies to T or XT Group with effect from January 30.
 In separate notices, the exchanges have asked their members "to take adequate precaution" while trading in these stocks "as the settlement will be done on trade-to-trade basis and no netting off of positions will be allowed".
 Further, value at risk margin of 100 per cent will also be levied on these scrips
 The decision with respect to these securities is part of a surveillance review, the exchanges said.
 They said the transfer of security for trading and settlement on a trade-to-trade basis "is purely on account of market surveillance and it should not be construed as an adverse action against the concerned company".
 These stocks would attract a circuit filter of up to 5 per cent which would be the maximum permissible limit within which the share price can move.
 In a separate statement, BSE said it has registered trading volume of 77,100 barrels with an open interest of 10,400 barrels, on the first day of Brent crude oil futures trading on Tuesday.
 The bourse began trading in futures contracts of Brent Crude Oil from January 27.
 The exchange will use Intercontinental Exchange's Brent Index as the final settlement price for its rupee-denominated Brent futures contract.
 "BSE is dedicated to deepen the Indian commodity markets by providing traders, investors and all market participants convenient and cost effective onshore hedging products.
 "We believe that this contract will be widely accepted by all stakeholders and emerge as a preferred risk mitigating tool of all stakeholders," BSE Chief Business Officer Sameer Patil said.
 Brent crude is highly co-related with the Indian crude oil basket and the BSE Brent crude contracts are designed to protect stakeholders from oil market uncertainties. AST SP ANS

Patanjali clocked revenues of about Rs 450 crore in fiscal year 2012 and shares of Colgate-Palmolive declined 21.7% in last one year. 
 
Aditya Mathur, research analyst at Citi, told ET, “There are competitive pressures for the incumbents due to Patanjali. The pricing of products might be an issue in categories such as health supplements, including honey, chyawanprash, and also certain premium segments like hand and face wash, and others, where the price value equation could work in Patanjali's favour."

Sowing of Kharif Crops is exhibiting a strong trend across India as farmers take advantage of the monsoon's wide distribution. 
 
However, no strong cues emanate from overseas equity and commodities markets for local stocks. US stocks posted modest gains last week. Markets across the world are watching the dialogue between the European Union and debt-laden Greece on further bailouts after Athens defaulted on an IMF payment earlier in July. 
 
The emergency meeting over the weekend yielded no results as the EU was insistent that Greece execute a series of reform measures before fresh bailouts can be discussed. 
 
The trend of foreign buying on local stocks continues to be bearish. Foreign investors sold 465 crore rupees worth of shares on the local markets on Friday, however, the loss was more than made up as local institutions purchased shares worth 590 crore rupees in the cash market. The trend was equally morose in the derivatives space with 1,078 crore rupees worth of sales on Stock Futures and a meagre 7 crore rupee purchase on Index futures. 
 
STOCKS TO WATCH 
 
PSU Banks: Syndicate, Central Bank of India, Allahabad Bank: The Finance Ministry plans to pump an extra `12,000 crore rupees into some PSU banks that are faltering due to heavy NPAs on their balance sheets. The first among the lot could be Syndicate Bank, Central Bank of India and Allahabad Bank. 
 
MINING STOCKS: IIP data for May shows progress in debottlenecking. This may prompt long positions on market favourites like Coal India. 
 
MARUTI: Global brokerage CLSA retains `Buy' on Maruti with a price target of `4,450/share. It says multiple catalysts are in place to drive strong earnings growth 
 
CAIRN INDIA: CLSA maintains `Buy; with a target of `250/share. It says fall in commodity prices have made the merger with Vedanta more unattractive. 
 
GLENMARK: Morgan Stanley raises its price target on the pharma company to `1,227 from `961 while maintaining its `Overweight' stance on the stock. 
 
EICHER MOTORS: Expects to hit monthly sales of 52,000 units by December, from 36,500 units now as new capacity comes onstream. 
 
EMAMI: Remains on the look out for new products to expand its portfolio of offerings.

Top things to look for in the markets today

The <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword> resumed its uptrend on Wednesday as investors and traders bought into beaten down blue chips such as Tata Steel and into mid caps such as Bharat Forge on expectations of better earnings in the coming quarters. 

	The Nifty gained 51 points to end the day at 8,567. Its Advance-Decline Ratio stood at 34/15 with Infosys, Zee Entertainment, Bajaj Auto and Wipro were on top of the gainers' list, whereas Bank of Baroda,Coal India, Yes Bank and SBI brought up the rear of the Index. ICICI Bank was the most active counter on the Nifty, trading 1.25 crore shares.
 

	Trading was equally robust in the middle market. Gains continued apace on the CNX Nifty Junior, CNX Small Cap Index and the CNX Midcap Index respectively.
 However, the <keyword id="151330" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bank-Nifty">Bank Nifty</keyword> fell a modest 44 points to 18,928 as traders booked profit after a sharp 5-day rally. The trend in other sectoral indices was strong. CNX Auto and CNX <keyword id="34523" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="fmcg">FMCG</keyword> Indices too posted smart gains while modest dips were seen on CNX Finance and CNX PSU bank Indices. On the <keyword id="43628" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bombay-stock-exchange">Bombay Stock Exchange</keyword>, the <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> added 151 points to end the session at 28,223 points. Wipro, Lupin and Sun Pharma ended with smart gains whereas Hindalco, SBI and ICICI Bank slipped marginally in trade today. As a consequence, the Advance-Decline Ratio on the Sensex stood at 20/10. 

	Bulls continued to rule to roost on the broader markets with 1,770 stocks gaining ground versus 1,183 fell below Tuesday's closing prices.
 

	The trend was positive in the derivatives space with Nifty Futures inching close to the 8,600-point mark. Realty, Media, Capital Goods and Infrastructure sectors were the major gainers among 18 industries in both price and open interest. The Advance-Decline Ratio was a strong 98/58 in the futures and Options market.
 

	Earnings from Torrent Power, Marico, Emami and Canara Bank impressed traders whereas they were disappointed with numbers from Prism Cement and Shree Cements.
