All the automakers have delivered growth in profitability and sales. This is reflected in the overall growth of the domestic two wheeler industry in FY23, which rose 17% on year after three years of decline. The industry clocked sales of 15.86 million units in FY23 from 13.57 million in the last fiscal year, according to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) However, reports say that the segment is still at a nine year low. Among the three players, Bajaj Auto has reported poor performance in the March quarter although it managed to grow on a yearly basis. Bajaj Auto’s Q4 standalone net profit fell 2% on year to ₹1,433 crore. Rising input costs and shrinking exports ate into the two-wheeler maker's volumes as well as bottomline, even as the company’s topline expanded by 12% to ₹8,905 crore during the quarter. In fact, analysts believe it may continue to underperform its peers because of weak presence in the domestic market. “Even so, we believe the company would underperform peers such as Eicher Motors (12% growth in FY24E) and TVS Motors (10% growth). Bajaj Auto’s underperformance is likely to persist owing to its weak presence in scooters in the domestic market, not to mention its large exposure to overseas markets,” said a report by Nuvama Institutional Equities. Stress of rising input costs in FY23 was clearly visible – Bajaj Auto’s input costs rose by nearly 9% to ₹24,073 crore, eating into its profits. Further, the company said that in the coming fiscal year, it has lined up a slew of product launches in different segments with an aim to strengthen its premium portfolio as well as premiumisation of existing models, which will help deliver improvement in market share. On the other hand, TVS Motor outperformed the other two and registered 67% on year growth in net profit along with sharp 140 basis points expansion in operating margin as well. After posting strong March-quarter earnings, the shares of the motorcycle manufacturer hit a 52-week high at ₹1,235, up nearly 6% on Friday. The management said that it expects to outperform the industry in both domestic and export segments due to demand recovery led by the premium and electric vehicle (EV) segment. “With supply challenges now largely over, we expect TVS’ outperformance to continue on the back of the ramp-up of its launches. Even in EVs, it seems to be ahead of its listed peers with a strong product pipeline in place for the next 24 months; it has signed up with industry experts and joint venture partners to emerge as a leading player in EVs,” said a report by HDFC Securities. FY23 Scorecard: TVS Motor fares better than Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp on profits and margins

Two-wheeler maker <keyword id="169970" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Eicher-Motors-Ltd">Eicher Motors Ltd</keyword> on Thursday said customers can now choose to personalise and accessorise their Royal Enfield motorcycles at the time of purchase. In a statement issued here, the company said it has rolled out the first of its kind motorcycle personalisation service - The Royal Enfield Make-It-Yours - MiY. The Royal Enfield is the two-wheeler division of Eicher Motors rolling out bikes like Bullet, Interceptor 650, Continental GT 650 and others. According to the company, the MiY is enabled via an app based 3-D configurator will allow buyers to access to various possible combinations in personalistion options at the time of booking the motorcycle. Once the order is placed through the app, the buyers will also know the probable delivery time. According to Vinod K. Dasari, CEO, Royal Enfield, with MiY, customers will have a "little bit of them" built into the motorcycle, and depending on the level of personalisation, motorcycles will be custom-made as per consumer specifications, within 24 to 48 hours, at the Chennai plant. "We will be rolling out MiY for all our motorcycles, across all our stores in the country in a phased manner. All new motorcycle models from Royal Enfield, from here on, will come with the MiY feature," he said. Initially the MiY will be available for models like Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650.

New Delhi, Apr 7 () Automaker Eicher Group on Tuesday pledged Rs 50 crore for initiatives to combat coronavirus pandemic in India, including setting up of dedicated specialty wards in hospitals, purchase and distribution of personal protective equipment for medical care personnel.The group which comprises Royal Enfield, a unit of Eicher Motors Ltd, and VE Commercial Vehicles -- joint venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors Ltd, also said it is in talks with various government organisations to support the production of critical medical equipment and supplies, including ventilators."This will include the employment and leverage of new-age technologies like 3-D printing for rapid scaling up of parts for the medical equipment," the group said in a statement.While pledging Rs 50 crore, the group further said while this is an initial commitment of funds, it will continue to assess the situation and is likely to increase spends over the forthcoming months to deploy support and for long-term rehabilitation in the aftermath of the pandemic".The group will work towards "augmenting healthcare support by working with an identified set of government and private hospitals to build dedicated COVID-19 specialty wards, including isolation areas, and equipment towards patient care".It will also work towards providing food, provisions and sanitation consumables, as well as setting up sanitation facilities for high-need-gap, underprivileged local communities in parts of several states across the country."Funds will also be directed towards support and relief measures for truck drivers, including food and sanitation supplies and COVID-19 healthcare testing kits," the statement said.While these are initiatives being undertaken immediately, the group said, "there is a strong need to employ recovery and rehabilitation efforts in the medium and long-term."Towards this, Eicher Group will be working on livelihood free training and reskilling initiatives for rehabilitation of labour impacted in the aftermath of COVID-19, for improving their employability, it added.
