New Delhi, Feb 7 () Edu-tech major BYJU'S on Friday said it has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from General Atlantic, an existing investor in the company. While BYJU'S did not disclose the quantum of investment, sources said General Atlantic has pumped in USD 200 million (about Rs 1,420 crore) into the company. The investment is part of an ongoing funding that had seen Tiger Global invest a similar amount into the edu-tech company. The sources added that BYJU'S has raised over USD 1.3 billion and the current round values it at about USD 8.2 billion. "General Atlantic has been one of our strongest partners and this additional investment shows their confidence in our vision, growth and future. We are happy to see an ever increasing acceptance for our learning programs in small towns across the country," BYJU'S founder and CEO Byju Raveendran said in a statement. He added that over 65 per cent of BYJU'S students are from outside the top 10 cities. "This is a validation of how technology can make high-quality learning content more accessible to students, irrespective of their geographies. In fact, technology as an enabler has a lot of potential to further innovate the way in which learning can be made personalised and impactful," he said. BYJU'S has 42 million registered users and 3 million paid subscribers. Students are spending 71 minutes on the app daily and the annual renewal rates are 85 per cent. It also tripled its revenue from Rs 520 crore to Rs 1,480 crore in FY18-19, and turned profitable on a full-year basis. The company is on track to double its revenue to Rs 3,000 crore in the current financial year. BYJU'S has learning programs for students in classes 1 to 12. Currently, it is working on launching programs in vernacular languages, and will also launch 'BYJU'S Online Tutoring Program' in the coming months. SR RVK

General Atlantic invests USD 200 mn in BYJU'S

New Delhi, Jan 28 () Content streaming platform Zee5 on Tuesday said it has partnered with edu-tech startup Eduauraa to offer educational content to users through its platform.
As part of the partnership, users buying one-year subscription of Zee5 before March 31, 2020 will get access to six months of free content from Eduauraa.
"Our larger vision at Zee5 is to build a large repository of purposeful content across genres. With Eduauraa on board, we will be able to address the educational needs to young students across the country," Zee5 India CEO Tarun Katial told reporters here.
He added apart from education, the company is looking at other areas as well to strengthen the offerings on the platform.
Minister of Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank', who was present at the event, said digital transformation of education will provide easy access to content and democratise education for masses.
"It should be our endeavour to see more innovation in the learning ecosystem that will allow each child to discover his strengths and abilities and fulfil his dreams in a digital world," he added.
Eduauraa founder and CEO Akanksha Chaturvedi said the company provides educational content in Hindi and English for students of class 6-12 across CBSE, ICSE and seven state boards.
"Concept-based learning as per Board syllabus will be delivered through interactive video lectures. Students will also get access to e-books and practice test papers," she added.
The company has about 100 employees and a team of 35 teachers to manage content. KRH SR BAL

Zee5 partners Eduauraa to offer educational content

<keyword id="6355629" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="google">Google</keyword> on Wednesday expanded its programme for startups to support startups working on the solutions to solve real-life challenges towards the new normal post COVID-19 landscape in India. <keyword id="9416148" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="google-for-startups">Google for Startups</keyword> has opened applications for the new batch of <keyword id="9416150" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="google-for-startups-accelerator">Google for Startups Accelerator</keyword>, with a special focus on health-tech, fin-tech, edu-tech, agri-tech, retail and SaaS startups, the company said in a statement. The next batch will commence in August 2020 and the last date of applications is June 30. This will be the fourth class of startups mentored by Google, which has so far closely mentored over 60 startups in India to date. "We have been working very closely with over 250 Startups founders over the last two months, holding consults with our network of experts, mentors and VCs to help solve for the immediate challenges faced by the founder community," informed Paul Ravindranath G, Programme Manager, Google for <keyword id="9416146" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="startups-accelerator-india">Startups Accelerator India</keyword>. Google launches program to support Indian startups creating solutions for post COVID-19 world

Mumbai, May 1 () Amid the lockdown to curb COVID-19 pandemic, more and more companies are offering work-from-home jobs for women, says a report. As per the report by online career platform JobsForHer, work-for-home jobs posted on its platform saw 30 per cent rise in March 2020 as compared to the same month last year. "This is a time when working from home is the new normal. The number of women looking to start or restart their careers has also risen dramatically in recent times," said JobsForHer Founder and CEO Neha Bagaria.The rise has been particularly noted in metro cities including Delh- NCR, Bengaluru , Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Pune, it added. With work-from-home becoming the norm for a majority of the workforce, several companies are posting remote working jobs, offering opportunities for women who are looking to begin their career or make a comeback, it said. The platform saw that certain job roles such as journalist, editor, content writing, tele calling, customer services, QA testing were the ones that women professionals majorly applied for. JobsForHer also observed that education, IT, recruitment, Internet or e-commerce and advertising and PR are some of the most popular industries for women while searching for jobs.Amazon, SQUADRUN, Ufaber EduTech, Multibhashi and OneHourLearning are some of the companies in which women were applying for work-from-home jobs, it added. Based in Mumbai, this edutech startup helps children between the ages of 6 and 14 build market-ready apps, games and animations online, using the fundamentals of coding. Within a year of its launch, Bajaj shares that WhiteHat Jr received a phenomenal reception from parents in India and is therefore hopeful that the global market will accept the product too. Since an edutech platform like this doesn’t really exist anywhere else currently, it is expected to do well even outside India. He adds that starting December, they will start pushing the startup internationally. The idea for starting WhiteHat Jr came to Bajaj when he was reading about the Industrial Revolution and how Mathematics hadn’t been a part of school curriculum till then. “After the Industrial Revolution, every school had to create a new curriculum but it took them 10 years to implement that. I realized something similar is happening now. Today, consumer tech is at the center of every household but the school curriculums are extremely basic. Nobody is teaching children coding from an early age,” explains Bajaj. Why parents are invested in the idea As a part of WhiteHat Jr’s curriculum, a six and a half year old Venkat Raman Patnaik developed a reward management system app that keeps a record of a ‘to-do’ list for school children, along with reward points that they earn for it. Similarly, 7-year-old Hirranyaa Rajani created a sign language app for the hearing impaired that benefits those with hearing impairment and those who want to learn sign language. Bajaj says that parents are welcoming WhiteHat Jr wholeheartedly because they are seeing the world changing in front of their eyes. With more and more automation disrupting the industry, a lot of jobs are getting redundant. “With automation, conventional occupations are getting disrupted. And more and more parents are aware of that,” says Bajaj. The startup has been witnessing 100% month-on-month growth since its launch in November 2018. “Between November and March, we were forming the product in beta and launched in April. After that, we doubled every month. We also raised our Series A funding very quickly in June, so the response we’ve been getting indicates that parents are quite aware of everything,” he adds. While their current curriculum caters to children between the ages of 6-14, Bajaj says they will soon launch a curriculum for 9-12 grades too. How WhiteHat Jr works The model of WhiteHat Jr is simple. It is a web-based system, much like a virtual classroom, and the teacher to student ratio is 1:1. The kids have to book a session online which then connects them to the teachers. There is also a coding platform where the participants can practice coding. Each session is around 45 minutes to an hour long. The sessions encourage children to develop apps, games and animation. “We are sending the top 1% of these kids to the US for a week-long mentorship with Silicon Valley entrepreneurs. We also have an in-house team that helps them think on how to take a product and make it more market-ready,” says Bajaj. Currently, around 3,000 students and 350 teachers are on-board. It is also heartening to see children from non-metro cities are coming on board too. The metro to non-metro ratio is about 55:45. The future of WhiteHat Jr In November, when Bajaj started the company, he raised a seed funding of $1.3 million. He has just raised a Series A of $10 million. “Right now we are running a positive cash flow business, so there’s no immediate need for more funding right now,” explains Bajaj. The entity’s marketing and growth strategy would be linked to acquiring more users. “Right now we’ve only been doing B2C digital marketing but next we want to enter school channels and build more alliances. Till now, we’ve only done performance marketing but the outpouring of demand has been significant,” he adds. Bajaj further adds that they might consider an ad campaign after their next round of funding and has a plan to go global. “Taking the organization global is an important part of the plan because nobody has ever heard of a six-year-old creating apps and products that are disruptive and market-ready. So I think it has a great potential globally too where parents have already seen consumer tech to be the centre of their households. The idea that their kids can be a part of a technologically-driven future or create that future is a resonant idea globally. Starting December, we're going to push for international markets, but those plans are still being defined,” Bajaj says.

<ul><li><keyword id="253799" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yash-Birla">Yash Birla</keyword> has been named as a <keyword id="2493710" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Willful-defaulter">willful defaulter</keyword> by <keyword id="49007" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uco-Bank">UCO Bank</keyword> for non repayment of a loan of ₹676 million. </li><li>Birla’s company Birla Surya Ltd is the one to have defaulted in the payment. </li><li>UCO Bank, before it was nationalized, was founded by Birla’s great grand uncle GD Birla.</li></ul>Indian businessman Yash Birla, who comes from one of the most prestigious families of India, has been <a href="https://www.livemint.com/news/india/uco-bank-declares-yashovardhan-birla-willful-defaulter-1560660742531.html">declared</a> as a willful defaulter by the Kolkata-based UCO Bank. His company Birla Surya Ltd failed to repay loans worth ₹676 million. Birla was sent several notices regarding the repayment of the loan. His company was given a credit limit of ₹1 billion to manufacture multi-crystalline solar photovoltaic cells. Interestingly, Birla has been issued a notice for being a willful defaulter by UCO Bank – the same bank that was founded by his great grand uncle Ghanshyam Das Birla in 1943. The bank was later nationalized by the Government of India in 1969. “Due to non-repayment of dues to the bank, the account was declared NPA (non-performing asset) on 3 June, 2013. The borrower has not repaid the dues owed to the bank despite several notices. The borrower company and its directors, promoters, guarantors were declared as willful defaulters by the bank and their name reported to the credit information companies for public information," UCO Bank said in its <a href="https://www.livemint.com/news/india/uco-bank-declares-yashovardhan-birla-willful-defaulter-1560660742531.html">notice.</a> Yash Birla, head of the <keyword id="169144" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yash-Birla-Group">Yash Birla Group</keyword>, is not new to financial troubles. Over the years, financial problems have been mounting on Birla, who was also bailed out by his billionaire cousin Kumar Mangalam Birla, in the past. New Delhi, Feb 19 () Homegrown early-stage venture capital firm, Blume Ventures on Wednesday announced the final close of Blume Ventures Fund III at USD 102 million (about Rs 730 crore). After a first close in late 2018, the final close was completed in December 2019, a statement said. Blume started in 2011 raising an entirely domestic Rs 100 crore fund from HNIs (high net-worth individuals) and subsequently raised a USD 60 million fund (Rs 400 crore) in 2016. It claimed that its the first entirely homegrown fund to raise a third fund and raise over USD 100 million in a single fund. "Blume's newest fund will continue to back early stage startups focusing on the two distinct opportunity sets that India offers, opportunities that leverage the mobile-led explosion of the Indian digital-first economy and Indian engineering and science translated to global market opportunities," it added. The fund III portfolio already includes more than 10 investments including HealthAssure (healthcare), Taaraka, Stage3 (consumer), Jai Kisan, TartanSense, Procol (agri), Classplus, Tapchief and LeverageEdu (edu-tech). Through Fund I and II, Blume had invested in companies like Unacademy, Grey Orange, Spinny, Turtlemint, Dunzo, Healthifyme, Purplle, Railyatri (IntrCity) and others. Blume Ventures announces final close of Fund III at $102 mn

New Delhi, Jan 23 () City-based edutech company Eupheus Learning on Thursday said it has raised USD 4.3 million (Rs 30 crore) in series A funding.
 The funding round, a mix of equity and venture debt, was led by Yuj Ventures and saw participation from existing investor Sixth Sense Ventures.
 "Eupheus will use the new capital to increase nationwide presence, develop new product offerings, and expand the team. With this fund raise, Eupheus will also commence operations in the Middle East and drive international expansion in other markets," a statement said.
 Eupheus posted revenue of Rs 60 crore in 2018-19. It increased its geographical presence to 70 cities in India from 52 earlier, expanded its team to 175 personnel, and forged new alliances with 4 international education players, taking its roster of global partnerships to 17.

 Crysta, a reproductive health brand, on Thursday said it has raised Rs 10 crore in pre-series A funding, led by the family office of Ruchirans and Anuraag Jaipuria. 
 The investors also include several family funds including Mumbai-based Green Shots Capital and Alfa Ventures, Delhi-based Real Time Ventures and NGB Dx, Dubai-based Petrotech, Steel City Securities and angel investors Lalit Wadhwa, Dr Kriti Maroli amongst others, a statement said.
 Crysta, which is a part of Delhi-based Redcliffe Life Sciences, is an end-to-end pregnancy and fertility platform that uses in-house technology to offer diagnostic and screening services combined with regular counselling and clinical data management.

<ul><li>InfoEdge’s net revenue grew to ₹316.6 crore from ₹265 crore in the same quarter previous year. </li><li>The revenue push came in from its <keyword id="6354553" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="real-estate">real estate</keyword> aggregator platform <keyword id="1336736" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="99acres">99acres</keyword>.com.</li></ul>One of India’s first internet companies InfoEdge reported a 19.5% jump in net revenues in the second quarter to ₹316.6 crore from ₹265 crore in the same quarter previous year, thanks to its real estate aggregator platform 99acres.com. “We continue to witness strong quarterly operational performance in terms of billing, revenue, total income and operating EBITDA growth, which are in high teens on year-on-year basis, supported by 99acres which grew over 20% in terms of billing and revenue during the quarter on a year-on-year basis,” said Chintan Thakkar, chief financial officer of InfoEdge. Thakkar spoke to Business Insider to share how the revenues on 99acres, in spite of an economic slowdown. “99acres has been consistently growing in the last six quarters. The last quarter we grew by 19%,” he said. The real estate aggregator business is divided into two parts – the first being the developers and businesses about new projects and the second one being resale retail. The second aspect has been the one to turn the story around for 99acres. “The growth could be because of the velocity of transactions – if there are more and more transactions in the market the business goes up. There are more green shoots around resale rental business and that is helping brokers with a good return on investment, which in turn helps our business,” said Thakkar. The company’s net profits also fell by 88% due to an exceptional item – impairment in a company called Meritnations due to gap in valuation. However, Thakkar informs us that there actually has been a 31.4% jump in profit margin.
