RSS affiliate Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) also rolled out a protest against the new FDI policy on August 9, almost in line with the launch of this campaign. As per SJM, allowing foreigners to engage in food processing and marketing of agricultural produce will ultimately kill small shops and units in India.

"Every company whether MNC or homegrown has to operate in accordance (with regulations). It is a free market and every company can sell depending upon the trust of the consumer," AIFPA President Sagar Kurade told ET. "At the end, the consumer has to choose which product they believe in."

For Patanjali Ayurved, rival MNCs are nothing short of East India Company

New Delhi, Feb 3 () US fast food chain McDonald's has selected MMG Group chairman Sanjeev Agrawal as its new partner to operate its outlets in north and east India, the company said.
 The development comes almost nine months after McDonald's bought estranged partner Vikram Bakshi's 50 per cent stake in Connaught Plaza Restaurants Ltd (CPRL), a joint venture, which has the licence to run its restaurants in north and east India.
 A McDonald's spokesperson said Agarwal is the new partner of the company for the two markets.
 "Agrawal has a strong understanding and passion for the McDonald's brand, insights into the local market, and a proven track record of driving quality and innovation in the food and beverage and hospitality industries," said McDonald's Asia Director Corporate Relations Barry Sum.
 Agrawal (55) is the group Chairman of MMG Group, which has interests in bottling and marketing of soft drinks, oil and gas, hospitality, among others.
 MMG Group also controls Moon Beverages, which is among the key bottlers for American beverage maker Coca-Cola in north India from 1994 and is manufacturing and distribution of Coca Cola, Limca, Sprit, Maaza, Thums UP, Fanta, Minute Maid, Coke Zero &amp; Kinley.
 Sum added that Agrawal is the right strategic partner for McDonald's to grow its brand presence in north and east India.
 McDonald's, however, has not share the terms and condition of the agreement. 
 Agarwal could not be contacted till filing of the story.
 The company also refrained to comment on the ongoing matter between McDonald's and its former JV partner Vikram Bakshi before the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), where state-run HUDCO has opposed sale/transfer of share by Bakshi to the fast food chain after settlement.
 "McDonald's remains a shareholder of CPRL, and continues to hold the shares that were acquired from Vikram Bakshi and his holding company in CPRL," said Sum, adding that Robert Hunghanfoo continues to head CPRL.
 In May last year, McDonald's had announced an out-of-court settlement agreeing to buy Bakshi's stake in their joint venture.
 The details of the pact, including financial terms, were not disclosed.
 They has approached the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal, to withdraw the suits, filed against each other, however, it was opposed by the state run Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO).
 HUDCO, which is claiming dues of Rs 194.98 crore from Bakshi and his related entities, in its intervention plea filed before the NCLAT, informed that notices regarding orders of the debt recovery tribunal (DRT) was already served to both the partner.
 HUDCO had contended that the said settlement is against the interim order passed by the DRT in a case pending against Vikram Bakshi.
 In September 2019, NCLAT had said it would review the settlement between fast food major McDonald's and its Indian partner Vikram Bakshi over the sale of his shares in Connaught Plaza Restaurants Ltd (CPRL).

McDonald's selects Sanjeev Agrawal as new partner for north, east India markets

The company has a strong presence in southern India in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and now looks to expand in some eastern states primarily through acquisition. The company offers a “one-stop solution” for pathology and radiology testing services through its 80 diagnostic centres and 11 reference laboratories across 13 cities and towns in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and in the National Capital Region and Kolkata. “We are a debt free company and due to our strong margin we also have liquidity on the balance sheet. We have built up a ₹250 crore cash on the book so priority is to use that corpus for the growth of the business. Further, the company is in hunt for diagnostics firms that have a similar kind of B2C business model with brand visibility. Vijaya Diagnostic Centre’s IPO is an entire offer for sale (OFS) from existing promoters of 3.56 crore equity shares. The company’s founder Dr. S. Surendranath Reddy will sell 50.98 lakh shares, Karakoram Limited will sell up to 2.94 crore shares and Kedaara Capital will sell partial stake of up to 11.02 lakh shares. The private equity investor and the promoter company are not exiting completely from the firm as post-issue Kedaara Capital will hold 10% stake in the company and the promoter will have 55% shareholding and remaining 35% will be available publicly for investors. Vijaya Diagnostic says it has a market share of 7% in its home market -- Andhra Pradesh, Telangana. Going forward, it looks to capture close to 20% of it. The market size of the business in both states is worth ₹5,100 crore, Kondapally said in the interview. The subsidiary now contributes 3.7% (June quarter) of revenue to the company. Hence, Vijaya Diagnostic plans to add more centres in that region. Over 96% of the Vijaya Diagnostic’s revenue comes from Hyderabad, the rest of Telangana, and the Andhra Pradesh region. IPO-bound Vijaya Diagnostic is planning more acquisitions in east India to expand business

<ul><li>The Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019 is one of the primary issues in the north east states that are going to vote today. </li><li>While the BJP is playing the development card, Congress is stressing how they can stop the bill from becoming a reality. </li><li>It’s an obstacle for BJP since they even reiterate wanting to enact the bill in their election manifesto.</li></ul> As the first phase of India’s general election begins, the north east states of India will be voting against the backdrop of the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019 and the ongoing <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/india-citizenship-bill-assam-protests-rise-conrad-sangma-and-aribam-syam-sharma-join/articleshow/67830987.cms">protests</a> in Assam. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) first introduced this bill in the lower house of parliament — the Lok Sabha — during the winter session, but it is still pending approval from the upper house, the Rajya Sabha. Despite severe opposition, in its <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/bjp-manifesto-for-lok-sabha-election-2019-on-data-privacy-and-protection/articleshow/68775987.cms">election manifesto</a>, the BJP <a href="https://www.bjp.org/en/manifesto2019">reiterated</a> its commitment towards the bill saying that it is “for the protection of individuals of religious minority communities from neighbouring countries escaping persecution.” There are two facets to why some people have an issue with the new amendment. First off, Hindus, Jains, Christians, Sikhs, Bhuddists and Parsis from the neighboring countries of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan will be able to apply for citizenship provided they’ve been in India for seven years. In contrast, the currently provision requires 12 years of residence in India in order to eligible for citizenship. Secondly, it’s in contradiction to the Assam Accord. The Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019 wants to grant nationality to non-Muslims who have come into India upto December 31, 2014. But, the Assam Accord dictates that all immigrants to have entered the country illegally after 1971 have to be deported — irrespective of religion. The fear is that in relaxing the norms around citizenship, as many as 20 million Hindus will migrate from Bangladesh to India and wipe out the local communities. Not to mention that the new amendment completely ignores Muslims. Nearly 4 million are, more or less, illegal immigrants since the final draft list of the National Registry of Citizens (NRC) was <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-45082757">released</a> to determine the citizenship of nearly 15 million migrants in north east India. India’s current prime minister and a member of the BJP has repeatedly asserted that illegal Muslim immigrants will be deported. Some feel that Bangladesh is <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-45002670">unlikely</a> to accept such a request, and thus, this may end up being another Rohingya where a large amount of people will be left stateless. Congress has played that card to their advantage backing the voters and assuring them that the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019 is a serious threat to their existence. The BJP has cautiously stated that they will “not take any step that hurts the interests of Assamese and other indigenous communities” and has switched gears to focus on development in the north east states highlighting how the Modi government has been able to complete multiple infrastructure projects in the area. Nonetheless, the continuous tensions have had a polarising effect in the north east states. On April 7, a Muslim man was heckled and abused for ‘selling beef’ and also made to eat pork, even though that goes against his religion. Fourteen out of 25 north east’s parliamentary constituencies are going to go to the polls today and the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019 is one of the major issues in these states.

At 5.30pm on Thursday ‘Fani’ was located at a distance of 320 km South from Puri. It hit Odisha coast between Gopalpur and Chandbali around Puri. The cyclone is expected to move towards West Bengal with a speed of 115 Kmph. Moreover, the cyclone is expected to move towards north-east region and emerge into Bangladesh on Saturday Evening, said IMD. Storm surge of about 1.5 metres height above astronomical tide is very likely to inundate low lying areas of Ganjam, Khurda, Puri and Jagatsinghpur districts of Odisha at the time of landfall.

 The affect of landfall has already begun. North Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Odisha are receiving light. The IMD said sea conditions are "very likely to be very rough" to high off north Tamilnadu, Puducherry, along and south Andhra Pradesh coasts till Friday. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea areas. It warned that the cyclone is likely to cause damages to all types of houses, communication and power poles, road and rail infrastructure. The Odisha government said that around 900 cyclone shelters have been made ready to house the evacuees. "It is estimated that a total of 1150,000 people will have to be moved to safer areas, of which about 330,000 people have already been evacuated," a statement said.

 Teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) have been put in place. Sinha directed establishment of a central toll free helpline for the general public and asked the Central ministries to set up control rooms to coordinate rescue and relief operations. The Civil Aviation Ministry informed that flight operations from Bhubaneswar were suspended from midnight of Thursday, while operations from Kolkata airport also will remain suspended from Friday morning until conditions improve. The railways have already suspended operations of trains in Odisha and all trains in Bhadrak-Vizianagaram section (of the Kolkata-Chennai route) has been cancelled till Saturday. A total of 140 trains including 83 passenger trains have been cancelled so far. The Indian Coast Guard and the Navy have deployed ships and helicopters for relief and rescue operations while the Army and Air Force units in the states have also been put on standby.

<ul><li><keyword id="6610470" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nuvoco-Vistas">Nuvoco Vistas</keyword>, part of Nirma Group of companies, opened its initial public offering (IPO) on Monday with a price band of ₹560-570.</li><li>The company is one of the largest cement companies in east India in terms of capacity.</li><li>The cement manufacturer is looking to raise ₹5,000 crore through the public issue. </li></ul>Nuvoco Vistas’ is the current ongoing initial public offering (IPO) opened for subscription along with CarTrade. Nuvoco, which is one of the largest cement players in east India, is a subsidiary of the Nirma Group, famous for its eponymous detergent brand. Nirma Group entered the cement business in 2014 by acquiring Switzerland based LafargeHolcim in 2016 and NU Vista, formerly known as Emami Cement in 2020. Gujarat-based Nirma Group is a diversified conglomerate that manufactures products ranging from chemicals to detergents, soaps, healthcare products and real estate development. With a strong promoter backing the Nuvoco Vistas grew from a cement based firm to offering various building materials like mixed concrete, cement, wall putty, blocks, plaster, and more. Over the years, Nuvoco Vistas has become the largest cement company in east India in terms of capacity (22.32 million metric tonnes per annum). The company’s cement plants are located in the states of West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand in east India and Rajasthan and Haryana in north India. Adding to it is the fact that the company holds a dominant position in east India with 17% market share in terms of capacity. <div type="image" title="Nuvoco peers" height="900" width="1200" msid="85177110" hostid="261"></div> “The country’s demand growth is likely to be led by east and central regions and will be primarily from affordable housing and infrastructure creation and the cement sector is expected to largely benefit from it. Nuvoco Vistas, being the largest cement company in the east region, is well placed to capitalise on these opportunities...We recommend to subscribe the [sic] issue from a long-term perspective,” said analysts at Investmentz.com. One biggest drawback for the company is its high debt. As of December 31, 2020, its net debt stood at ₹7,259 crore. The company intends to use the proceeds from the fresh issue to pay some of its debt. The cement manufacturer’s valuation is at a discount to its large cap peers as it partially factors high debt and low returns on capital employed (ROCE), said a report by IDBI Capital. “But given [the] up-cycle in the cement industry and expectation of improvement in margin and balance sheet deleveraging over FY21-23 earnings estimate we recommend subscribe,” added the report.
