This was followed by three earthquakes in Nepal in the morning measuring up to 5.2 on the Richter Scale. The first 4.8 tremor was felt at 6:14am in Kathmandu, followed by two tremors in Naubise in Dhading at 6:29am and 6:40am. The intensity of the earthquake in India, however, is disputed. The <keyword id="55209" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Meteorological-Department">Indian Meteorological Department</keyword> measured it as 5.8 on the Richter Scale but the US Geological Survey (USGS) <a href="https://twitter.com/USGSBigQuakes/status/1120787800641527808">asserts</a> that the magnitude of the earthquake was actually around 6.1. Regardless of the numbers, USGS <a href="https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us70003axc/executive?utm_medium=social">predicts</a> that there is ‘low likelihood’ of resultant casualties and damages from the quake. Xinhua — China's official state news agency — <a href="http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/2019-04/24/c_138004455.htm">reported</a> that the earthquake in India was also felt in Tibet, one of India’s neighbours. Four earthquakes hit India and Nepal, no casualties

<ul><li>A 6.0-magnitude <keyword id="6362774" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="earthquake">earthquake</keyword> hit the Indian <keyword id="589972" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Islands">islands</keyword> of <keyword id="73024" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Andaman">Andaman</keyword> and <keyword id="171285" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nicobar">Nicobar</keyword> islands today morning. </li><li>No <keyword id="42570" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tsunami">tsunami</keyword> alert has been issued because the earthquake did not result in a subsequent rise of sea levels. </li><li>No immediate <keyword id="3501296" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Loss-of-Life">loss of life</keyword> or damage to property was reported.</li></ul> An earthquake just hit the western region of <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>, and its epicenter was the Nicobar islands region. The earthquake hit at 8:45 am today morning and measured 6.0 on the richter scale according to India’s National Center for Seismology. But there’s no threat of a tsunami. The Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) stated that the earthquake shouldn’t result in a tsunami because it didn’t result in a rise in sea levels. Officials have also reported that there were no immediate reports of loss of life or even damage to property. But, the localities did feel the tremors. Prone to <keyword id="792115" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="seismic-activity">seismic activity</keyword> The Andaman and Nicobar islands are prone to seismic activity. It was even witness to <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-news-india/12-earthquakes-jolt-andaman-nicobar-islands-in-24-hrs/">12 earthquakes</a> over the span of 24 hours on November 9, 2015 — all going measuring 5 or more on the richter scale. The largest earthquake recorded in the area was in December 2005 that hit the North Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal. The Andaman and Nicobar were the worst hit territory in India reporting a loss of 4,486 people. This is all because it’s located near the boundary of the Indian plate and the Burmese microplate marked by the Andaman Trench. The north-east end of Port Blair is also home to the only volcanoes in India — the Barren Island Volcano and Narcondam.

6.0 magnitude earthquake hits India’s Nicobar Islands, no tsunami risk reported

An <keyword id="6362774" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="earthquake">earthquake</keyword> measuring 7.5 magnitude struck 80 km (50 miles) east of Pokhara in <keyword id="12266" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Nepal">Nepal</keyword> on Saturday, about half way between the town and the capital <keyword id="18568" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="kathmandu">Kathmandu</keyword>. Tremors have been felt right across the entire northern Indian belt, from Rajasthan to the states in the north east. The quake was 31 km (19 miles) deep. 
 
This is the second largest earthquake to rock the region since 1934, when an earthquake measuring over 8 on the Richter scale, nearly wiped out the entire area. Though slightly lesser in magnitude, today’s earthquake, given it is continental in nature, is expected to create widespread devastation in and around the epicentre. 
 So strong has been its impact, that several strong after shocks have been felt even as far as <keyword id="66" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Delhi">Delhi</keyword> NCR since then. The impact in Delhi around the first earthquake was around 5 on the richter scale. The aftershock that followed the massive earthquake measured 6.6 on the richter scale at the epicentre in Nepal. Several pictures from Kathmandu showing damaged and destroyed buildings have already started pouring in. 
 
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an alert for the entire region that has felt the tremors in India including the national capital region, stating people to stay away from concrete structures once aftershocks begin, given an earthquake of this magnitude has the power of damaging even the strongest of buildings. 
 
What is a big cause of concern however is the level of preparedness that one can expect in the national capital region, given it falls in Earthquake Zone 4, or the second most dangerous geographical zone for earthquakes in India, followed only by the entire Himalayan belt, which is the most earthquake prone area in India (Zone 5).

Even as aftershocks continue to be felt across <keyword id="12266" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Nepal">Nepal</keyword> and its capital <keyword id="18568" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="kathmandu">Kathmandu</keyword>, reports of the first <keyword id="6379994" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="casualty">casualty</keyword> from the severe 7.9 magnitude has trickled in, of a 15 year old girl, who succumbed to her injuries on the Indian side of the Indo-Nepal border. The casualty, officials both in <keyword id="2823538" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Nepal-and-India">Nepal and India</keyword> fear, could go much higher given the scale of devastation followed by the massive <keyword id="6362774" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="earthquake">earthquake</keyword> and its hugely powerful aftershocks. 
 
Some extremely moving first pictures and videos amongst other details of the extent of damage have also started filtering in. Several pictures have surfaced showing huge cracks on roads in Kathmandu, several destroyed buildings, including a completely raised to the ground chapel. Reports also suggest that the Kathmandu airport has been shutdown and all flights are now being directed to India. Fear is now mounting that there could be several people stuck or buried under collapsed high-rises and other buildings in Kathmandu alone.
