Eventually, through the years, I met like-minded people, and I realised that this is a real problem. In such times, what truly helps me is to actually do something towards dealing with the problem,” says Bhumi. Talking about the campaign Bhumi Pednekar stated, "I’m deeply disturbed by Climate Change and the impact that it is having the world over. I have dedicated my life to working on this and helping raise awareness… I have always been committed to using my platform to raise awareness about the urgency of climate action and to empower individuals and communities to adopt sustainable practices. Together, we can make a difference and create a more sustainable and resilient world for future generations.” Further, Bhumi’s role as a <keyword id="21390874" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="climate-warrior" source="keywords">climate warrior</keyword> has also seen her collaborating with activists and institutions nationwide, amplifying their voices and supporting initiatives focused on environmental preservation and climate action. The theme for today’s World Earth Day 2024 is Planet Vs Plastic, and it is time for all of us to gauge our individual and collective impact on our environment and try to reduce it. “One big thing that we can do is to look for and support businesses that are trying to go green and create a positive impact on our planet. If investors support such businesses, and consumers pick such products, our carbon footprint can be lesser,” explains Bhumi. “Every day is Earth Day. This is our only home, there is no alternative, and there is no plan B! The way we show empathy and sympathy towards our loved ones, we should show empathy towards everybody else that we share this planet with. It really breaks my heart when you see on the news that a major city like Bangalore is still witnessing a water crisis and our capital city Delhi has winter days where schools are canceled because of the pollution. We are all in this together, we all are a part of the problem. And we all need to be a part of the solution as well,” concludes Bhumi. "Unless businesses act now, climate change will ever more deeply damage economies, increase scarcity, drain profits and job prospects, and impact us all," read the Earth Day website. "Through regulations, incentives, and public/private partnerships, governments hold the keys to transform and build the green economy."As global consumer interest in sustainability has grown, so have the corporate Earth Day announcements proliferated.In addition to rolling out its traditional green logo at its retail locations, Apple marked this Earth Day by <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/reviews/out?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.apple.com%2Fnewsroom%2F2022%2F04%2Fapple-expands-the-use-of-recycled-materials-across-its-products%2F">disclosing</a> it had increased the use of recycled materials across its products to nearly 20%, while also promoting Apple Pay as a channel to support the World Wildlife Fund.CVS Health ran down a list of its 2021 climate progress, including having its net-zero targets validated by the <a href="https://sciencebasedtargets.org/net-zero">Science-Based Targets initiative's corporate net-zero methodology.</a>News out of Stripe and ADM highlighted the progression of climate initiatives for startups and new technology, as well as legacy corporations in transition.<h2>Stripe partners on new carbon removal fund</h2>Payments giant Stripe isn't trying to walk the road to sustainability alone. It is sharing the investment with industry peers.Leading up to Earth Day, Stripe <a href="https://twitter.com/stripe/status/1513850236929822722">announced</a> a partnership with Alphabet, Meta, Mckinsey, and others, to form Frontier. The goal is to accelerate and scale carbon capture and storage technology by <a href="https://frontierclimate.com/">committing to</a> purchasing $925 million of carbon-removing technology, which is being developed in startups, over the next nine years. Stripe Climate enables its customers to direct portions of its revenue toward the fund. "Some of the most interesting investments being made in sustainability are coming from the technology sector," Cary Krosinsky, who teaches sustainable finance at Yale University and Brown University, told Insider. "Stripe's focus on investing in startups doing carbon capture and of this scale recognizes that people expect more from companies today than just how they are reducing their own operational footprints."Just as investors come together to make major financial transactions easier, Krosinsky said Stripe is collaborating to help effect change that would be otherwise hard to do alone. This includes in terms of the size of the investment required."It makes a lot of sense for the tech sector to say, 'We're going to each throw money into a kitty on a mega project,'" he says.<h2>ADM moves up its deforestation timeline</h2>As part of Earth Day celebrations this year, multinational food processing company ADM said it has accelerated its 2030 timeline for deforestation-free sourcing. The company <a href="https://investors.adm.com/news/news-details/2022/ADM-Makes-Earth-Day-Pledge-to-Protect-Forests/default.aspx">moved up this commitment by five years, to 2025.</a>ADM said it will achieve its traceability goals in soy supply chains in Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina by year-end, and is making progress in tracing its palm supply chain.Previously, ADM also committed to cutting its greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2035. That commitment was made after it commissioned <a href="https://assets.adm.com/Sustainability/2019-Reports/ADM-WSP-Feasibility-Study-and-Goal-Document.pdf">a feasibility study</a> from engineering professional services firm WSP Global. It identified a pathway for meeting this goal, which includes the purchase of renewable electricity, equipment upgrades, and using more biomass fuels.ADM also continues to invest in satellite imaging technology to keep its supply chains transparent and monitor for signs of deforestation.It uses mechanisms like Green Bonds to finance or re-finance sustainability projects, according to an analyst note from Corinne Bendersky at S&amp;P Global Rating. It gave the company a "strong" rating in this regard."ADM expects to use an amount equal to the net proceeds of any sustainable bond financing issued under the framework within 24 months of issuance to exclusively finance or refinance eligible green and social projects," <a href="https://www.spglobal.com/_assets/documents/ratings/research/101232027.pdf">reads the note</a>. Projects included the areas of sustainable agriculture, green buildings, energy efficiency and renewable energy, and clean transport.

Stripe, ADM, and other companies tout Earth Day pledges and progress reports

Nearly 20 per cent of all material used in <keyword id="6354427" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="apple" source="Orion">Apple</keyword> products in 2021 was recycled, the highest-ever use of recycled content, the company has announced. For the first time, certified recycled gold was used in the plating of the main logic board and wire in the front camera and the rear cameras of iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro. To achieve this milestone, Apple said it pioneered industry-leading levels of traceability to build a gold supply chain of exclusively recycled content. "As people around the world join in celebrating <keyword id="6453991" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="earth-day" source="Orion">Earth Day</keyword> (April 22), we are making real progress in our work to address the climate crisis and to one day make our products without taking anything from the earth," said <keyword id="276890" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="lisa-jackson" source="Orion">Lisa Jackson</keyword>, Apple's vice president of Environment, Policy, and <keyword id="2532066" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="social-initiatives" source="Orion">Social Initiatives</keyword>. Apple also announced its newest recycling innovation, Taz, a machine that uses a groundbreaking approach to improve material recovery from traditional electronics recycling. In 2021, 59 per cent of all the aluminum Apple shipped in its products came from recycled sources, with many products featuring 100 percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure. Since 2015, the company has reduced plastic in its packaging by 75 per cent. Apple products in 2021 included 45 per cent certified recycled rare earth elements, a significant increase since the company introduced recycled rare earth elements in its devices. The products had 30 per cent certified recycled tin, with all new iPhone, <keyword id="101239" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ipad" source="Orion">iPad</keyword>, AirPods, and <keyword id="62949" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="mac" source="Orion">Mac</keyword> devices featuring 100 percent recycled tin in the solder of their main logic boards. They also featured 13 per cent certified recycled cobalt, used in iPhone batteries that can be disassembled by Apple's recycling robot Daisy and returned to market. Apple said it is also committed to extending the lifetime of its products through refurbishment. In 2021, Apple sent 12.2 million devices and accessories to new owners for reuse, extending their lifetime and reducing the need for future mining. "Ultimately, Apple aims to use only renewable or recyclable materials in its products -- a goal announced in 2017 that has charted the company's pathway on design and material sourcing," it said. In the last few years, sustainability has become more than just a buzzword in the marketing and advertising world. It is now one of the biggest decision-making factors. Consumers are asking for more transparency and expecting to see more concrete action from Indian brands. So, this year, more companies have come forward to help limit global warming, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, aim for energy-efficient processes by using renewable energy, become water positive by reducing, recycling and reusing, and protecting our environment and its precious species. L’Oréal Paris L’Oréal Paris is on a mission of reducing its carbon footprint by 50% per finished product by 2030. It will also contribute 10 million Euros to environmental projects whose beneficiaries are communities of women around the world. It has pledged to reduce the weight of its products and use 100% recycled plastic. It will also join the LOOP initiative and take part in a project to trial new types of durable packaging. The new shampoo and conditioner packaging will be made of aluminum, and sold with a deposit, on the retailer’s website. After using the products, consumers will be able to return the packaging to the retailer that will collect and return the packaging to L’Oréal Paris for cleaning and refiling. KitKat KitKat has pledged to become carbon neutral by 2025. It aims to reduce the emissions generated through the sourcing of its ingredients, the manufacturing of the product and its distribution by more than 50% as part of the plan. Most emissions occur when producing KitKat's ingredients like cocoa and milk. The brand will reduce these emissions as much as possible through initiatives like restoring forests and supporting a transition to regenerative agriculture. For any emissions that cannot be eliminated, the brand will invest in high quality offsetting based on natural climate solutions. It has promised to expand its regenerative agriculture, accelerate the transition to renewable electricity, KitKat is also working with The Carbon Trust, a global climate change and sustainability consultancy, to measure the brand's current carbon footprint and will complete this process later in 2021. Reebok Reebok has released a new version of its innovation in running footwear: Floatride Energy GROW, the plant-based running shoe for high-performance. It combines the Forever Floatride Energy model with the commitment and responsibility to protect the environment and strive to create a fitter planet. It guarantees that at least 50% of the used materials are plant-based. It is also committed to reducing virgin polyester from its material mix and eliminating it altogether by 2024. Reebok is focusing sustainability efforts under two pillars: [REE]GROW, which focuses on the creation of products from natural materials; and [REE]CYCLED, which focuses on creating products using recycled or repurposed materials. WPP WPP has announced a new commitment to reach net zero carbon emissions in its operations by 2025 and across its entire supply chain by 2030. To deliver net zero emissions from WPP’s operations, electricity will be 100% renewably sourced by 2025. Within WPP’s supply chain, which accounts for the overwhelming majority of the company’s emissions, the two largest sources are the production of advertising content and, most significantly, the placement of that content in media channels from television and press to radio and online. WPP is the first in its industry to include media in its net zero commitment. Fossil Fossil has launched vegan cactus leather, an innovative material new to the industry, through the collection of Kier Cactus Leather Totes. Each bag is designed with material made from organically grown cactus leaves developed by Desserto, a Mexico-based company with a focus on sustainable materials. They have also been ensuring that no toxins or harmful chemicals are used in their products, with a list of 1,193 toxins on their watch out list while developing. LG Electronics As a commitment towards a sustainable future, LG Electronics India on the occasion of Earth Day has announced a campaign themed #UPGRADERESPONSIBLY. The campaign focuses on how discarding old electronics irresponsibly hurts the environment, which ends up affecting our health. The launch of this video aims to create awareness around the simple solution of discarding e-waste to help save the planet. The video provides information about how one can responsibly discard their old electronics by simply calling up LG helpline. And, as India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, <a href="http://pib.nic.in/PressReleseDetail.aspx?PRID=1570941">issued</a> his statement for Earth Day, it was hard not to notice that India’s already reached the two degrees Celsius mark. <div type="ExtQuote" text="Today on Earth Day, we bow in reverence to Mother Earth.  Reaching the two degree mark isn’t the worst news since it’s still compatible with the 2009 Copenhagen goal. In fact, most countries are worse off having hit a three, four and, in some cases, even a five degrees Celsius increase in temperatures since the industrial era. <div type="image" title="climateactiontracker" msid="68998103" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;India is better off than most countries around the world with respect to its pledges and targets as per the climate change&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>

 In April last year, India and at least 170 other countries reiterated their commitment towards climate change in London by signing an <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/transportation/shipping-/-transport/shipping-industry-joins-effort-to-tackle-climate-change/articleshow/63779431.cms?from=mdr">agreement</a> that states that stakeholders must reduce carbon dioxide emissions by at least 50% from shipping by 2050, based on 2008 emission levels. India manages to <a href="https://www.germanwatch.org/en/16046">rank</a> 14th on the Global Climate Risk Index. But despite its progress, India is among the countries <a href="http://web.worldbank.org/archive/website01291/WEB/0__CO-78.HTM">most vulnerable</a> to climate change according to the World Bank. It’s no secret that India’s already facing a warming climate, witnessing a decline in monsoon rain since the 1950s. Extended droughts and incidents of unexpected heavy rainfall are also more frequent. Between 1998 and 2017, India saw $79.5 billion (₹5.5 trillion) in economic losses due to climate change <a href="https://www.unisdr.org/we/inform/publications/61119">according</a> to the United Nations. India’s been making progress but there are still reasons to worry:
