The company's PAT (profit after tax) stood at Rs 930 crore. Notably, without this windfall gain, Paytm's finances would still be in red, with the company racking up losses worth Rs 415 crore. Paytm was in red in the year-ago period as well, incurring losses worth Rs 290.5 crore. This windfall profit also improved Paytm's EBITDA by Rs 388 crore on a QoQ basis. The company's revenue also saw a slight uptick of 10.5% quarterly to Rs 1,659 crore, as opposed to Rs 1,501 crore in the previous quarter. But on a year-on-year basis, Paytm's revenue dipped significantly by 34%. The company also announced that it has entered into a DLG (<keyword id="23641220" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Default-Loss-Guarantee" source="keywords">default loss guarantee</keyword>) model for its merchant loans of about Rs 225 crore with SMFG India Credit. Under this arrangement, Paytm will be first in line to take a hit in case of a loss that emerges from borrowers defaulting or skipping their payments. "Following the regulatory framework and the emerging market practice, we see increased willingness from lenders to partner and allocate more capital in the default loss. The DLG model will help to increase disbursements with the existing partners and expand partnerships with new lenders for the loan distribution,” said the company in its earnings release today. The company's revenue from its payment business also inched up 9% on a quarterly basis, along with its revenue from <keyword id="19976433" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="financial-services" source="keywords">financial services</keyword>, which also grew by 34% QoQ. At present, Paytm's total merchant subscriptions stand at 1.12 crore, with the company garnering 3 lakh new merchants during the quarter. During the previous quarter, Paytm's <keyword id="20253122" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gross-merchandise-value" source="keywords">gross merchandise value</keyword> (GMV) also inched up by 5% on a sequential basis, which experts anticipate will continue in the coming quarters, just as India braces for the festive season. Per its release, Paytm aims to achieve <keyword id="23641219" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="EBITDA-profitability" source="keywords">EBITDA profitability</keyword> (before ESOPs) by the fourth quarter of this financial year. However, investors remained unimpressed with Paytm's performance, with its share slipping by around 3.96% during the day to trade at Rs 697.20. The stock has a YTD (yield-to-date) of 7.91% during the year.

The report highlights the serious challenges automakers face in achieving profitability and scaling operations in the EV segment, which remains heavily reliant on financial support from the government. <h2>Struggling to achieve profitability</h2>The Bernstein report reveals that generating profitable margins in the Indian EV sector is proving to be an uphill battle for automakers. “It is tough to generate sufficient margins and get scale in EVs. Even with hefty incentives, incumbent OEMs are still unprofitable,” the report stated. This underscores the fact that even with <keyword id="20022183" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="government-subsidies" source="keywords">government subsidies</keyword> aimed at promoting <keyword id="20138204" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="electric-mobility" source="keywords">electric mobility</keyword>, automakers are struggling to make EVs financially viable. High production costs, limited infrastructure, and relatively low consumer demand all contribute to this issue. Traditional automakers, particularly in India’s two-wheeler market, are facing significant financial losses. According to Bernstein, while some niche startups may survive, their long-term market share will likely remain limited, and competition will primarily be between established original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The key challenge for these OEMs is achieving the scale and cost reductions required to compete with the well-entrenched internal combustion engine (ICE) sector. <h2>Reliance on incentives</h2>One of the most striking conclusions from Bernstein’s analysis is the deep reliance of the EV sector on government subsidies. Without these incentives, the <keyword id="19952060" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="EV-Industry" source="keywords">EV industry</keyword> would be unable to compete with traditional ICE vehicles. “The EV Industry is not relevant without incentives currently, and to break the ICE sector, it needs intense focus, scale, and continued cost downs,” the report emphasised. This indicates that while government schemes like GST benefits have helped reduce the cost difference between EVs and ICE vehicles, they are not enough to ensure the long-term sustainability of the EV sector. Bernstein estimates that the overall EV two-wheeler industry in India generates around USD 1.3 billion in annual revenues, but without government support, the sector incurs an EBIT loss of approximately USD 300-400 million. The high cost structure of EVs, combined with the relatively low sales volumes, makes it difficult for companies to operate without subsidies. <h2>Established players face mixed fortunes</h2>Among India’s leading two-wheeler manufacturers, Bernstein noted that <keyword id="19897354" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bajaj-Auto" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Bajaj Auto" meta.hostid="265" meta.entityid="Bajaj Auto">Bajaj Auto</keyword> and <keyword id="20326963" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="TVS-Motors" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="TVS Motors" meta.hostid="265" meta.entityid="TVS Motors">TVS Motors</keyword> are on a similar footing in terms of their performance in the EV space. Interestingly, <keyword id="19897349" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola-Electric" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Ola Electric" meta.hostid="265" meta.entityid="Ola Electric">Ola Electric</keyword> (Ola-E) stands out as a startup that has been able to generate positive operating earnings (EBITDA) from its premium models like the S1 Pro and S1 Air, even as it incurs losses on its mass-market model, the S1X. “Our analysis indicates that Ola-E is generating positive operating EBITDA from its premium models, such as the S1 Pro and S1 Air while incurring a loss on its mass-market model, the S1X,” the report said. While Ola has shown some promise, it too remains heavily dependent on subsidies to maintain its financial health. <h2>Long-term outlook</h2>Bernstein’s report paints a challenging picture for the future of India’s EV sector, suggesting that while dominant startups may survive, the majority of the competition will come from traditional automakers. The net device subscriber base (for Paytm sound box) inched up to 1.09 crore during June 2024, up from 79 lakh in June 2023. On the <keyword id="19900016" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="payment-services" source="keywords">payment services</keyword> front, the quarterly revenue stood at Rs 900 crore, which was largely dented due to closure of PPBL (Paytm Payment Bank Limited) accounts, owing to RBI directives. The same stood at Rs 2,342 crore during the year-ago period. For Q1FY25,the company registered a gross merchandise value (GMV) of Rs 4.3 lakh crore, and a net payment margin of Rs 383 crore. The company expects the annual payment processing margin (including <keyword id="19900911" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="upi" source="keywords">UPI</keyword> incentives, which gets paid in Q4 of every financial year) to be in the range of 5-6 bps. On the financial and <keyword id="20257159" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="marketing-services" source="keywords">marketing services</keyword> front, the revenue for April-June 2024 was Rs 280 crore and Rs 321 crore, respectively. The revenue from marketing services, which includes advertising, and ticketing for travel, movies and events, was down largely due to seasonality of this business. Overall, Paytm's net loss the quarter stood at Rs 840 crore, significantly up from Rs 357 crore in the year ago period. <h2>Low Sounds from Sound Box, UPI </h2>The company highlighted that its per device subscription revenue had tanked, and expects it to rise in the coming days, as it pushed for new merchant signups and redeployment from inactive merchants. Additionally, the company is awaiting permission to begin onboarding new UPI customers, which would help it drive up the number of its monthly transacting users. As of June 30, 2024 the company's monthly transacting users (MTU) stood at 7.8 crore, down from 8.9 crore in March 2024 and about 10.4 crore in January this year. <h2>Rise in loan disbursal </h2>In its release, the company noted that it is "expanding its loan cross-selling by integrating more types of loans from our partners, including secured credit like loan against property and gold loans". The value of merchant loans it disbursed during the quarter was Rs 2,508 crore, and about 50% of these were availed by repeat borrowers. The average ticket size in this category also jumped up from Rs 2,25,000 to Rs 1,90,000, with an average tenure of 13 months. As for personal loans, the company disbursed loans worth Rs 2,500 crore during the quarter. Here, the average ticket size and tenure remained stable at Rs 1,35,000 and 16 months, respectively. About 1.1% of the monthly transacting users on Paytm avail such loans. The company also reported a rise in number of credit cards activated in June 2024, which stood at 12.8 lakh, as compared to 7.5 lakh last year. At present, the company has 6 active partners for credit card distribution. <h2>Compliance first approach </h2>The company saw in uptick in its indirect costs from Rs 1,220 crore in June 2023 to Rs 1,301 crore as of June 2024, which it attributed to higher marketing costs to create awareness regarding new partnerships in the payments business as TPAP (third party application provider), Its software, cloud and data centre expenses increased QoQ (from Rs 162 crore in March 2024 to Rs 182 crore in June 2024) due to one-time charges relating to the migration to the TPAP model. However, the company expects this cost to come down in upcoming quarters. Going ahead, Paytm will largely focus on reactivating existing dormant UPI customers. "Once we are allowed new UPI user onboarding, we will acquire new monetizable customers with discipline on acquisition costs", the release said. Apart from this, it also aims on enhancing credit distribution, expanding secured lending products , allocating more resources to insurance distribution and mutual fund distribution, "which offer large monetization opportunities" and maintaining a stringent focus on compliance first approach across their businesses. Paytm Q1FY25 results: Revenue from payment services plunges to Rs 900 crore, monthly transacting users in June dip to 7.8 crore

Revenue from operations for the quarter under review was Rs 1,644 crore against Rs 1,243 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal, according to the filing. The Bengaluru-based firm said its total expenses during the first quarter grew to Rs 1,849 crore compared with Rs 1,461 crore in the June quarter of FY24. The company made its market debut earlier this month. The company in a statement said its automotive segment (E2W) posted a strong improvement in EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization) margin and is close to EBITDA breakeven. The quarter witnessed the highest-ever deliveries of vehicles by the company at 1,25,198 units as against 70,575 units delivered in the same period last year, <keyword id="4393078" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola-Electric" source="Orion">Ola Electric</keyword> Mobility said. The company also said it ramped up deliveries of its mass-market scooter portfolio (S1 X portfolio) during the quarter which helped accelerate the growth, adding that the existing product portfolio also saw strong demand which continued growth momentum throughout the quarter. According to Ola, the increasing scale of operations has benefited the company in the form of lower manufacturing costs and supply chain optimization. These benefits of scale are further amplified by the company's scalable platform-based product development and manufacturing technology that results in high degrees of commonality across its products, it said. The company also announced on Wednesday the integration of its cells in its vehicles by the first quarter of next fiscal. Ola Electric Mobility losses widen to ₹347 crore in Apr-Jun quarter

<ul><li><keyword id="830092" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="zomato" source="Orion">Zomato</keyword>’s promise to turn net profit positive in a year has cheered investors. </li><li>Margins in its core food delivery business has hit a multi-quarter high. </li><li>The worry? Monthly transacting users and gross order value has declined versus the previous reported quarter. </li><li>Nomura believes Zomato will find it difficult to achieve double-digit contributory margin with high growth in the long term </li></ul>Two years after it listed on the bourses, Zomato is on a recovery path. The stock which hit a high of over ₹150 per share fell sharply subsequently to below ₹50 a piece. However, the last quarter (Q1FY24) has seen a recovery from that level and it has now surpassed its listing price of ₹76. The stock has been rising steadily in the last three weeks, after its Q4 earnings report where it turned EBITDA positive in its core business, without including Blinkit, its quick commerce business. EBITDA is net income (earnings) with interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation. Moreover, the management also promised to turn positive not just at the consolidated adjusted EBITDA level but also at the profit after tax level in a year. Financial services company, JM Financial says this commitment is the ‘cherry on the cake’. “Tough macro posed growth headwinds but management showed urgency on profitability and that was despite the Gold programme launch,” said Jefferies. Zomato Gold is a subscription plan that offers free deliveries within a 10-kilometre radius for orders above ₹199. During the quarter, as many as 30% of the gross order value, from 1.8 million customers, came from Gold. The Gold plan could hurt its contributory margins (CM) because of its inability to charge every order. Yet, as of Q4, its CM in core food delivery business are comfortable after hitting a multi-quarter high. Contributory margins represent the incremental money generated for each unit sold after deducting the variable portion of the costs. “The core business milestone was achieved mainly on the back of solid expansion in the food delivery contribution margin to 5.8% in Q4 vs 5.1% in Q3. This was because profitability levers such as improvement in restaurant commissions and ad income, and lower discounts/variable cost offset the adverse impact of Gold launch,” said JM Financial. Ordering effects After the post-pandemic boom effects faded away, a lot of consumption patterns have changed, also evident in consumer spending on fast food — impacting growth in quick service restaurants. These headwinds have been impacting Zomato as well. The growth in Zomato’s food delivery business seems to have flatlined. Food gross order value declined 2% quarter-on-quarter, even as it grew 12% year-on-year. Moreover, its monthly transacting users (MTU) declined by 5% QoQ to 16.6 million, while growing at 6% YoY. Apart from the one-time impact of its decision to exit from 225 cities, the company attributes MTU decline to optimised marketing spend and withdrawal of the human support interface for abusive customer cohorts. “Also because of Zomato Gold, the MTUs have come down and not gone up because we do see an impact of clubbing some orders in the same households, which might have just a single membership,” Akshant Goyal, chief financial officer of Zomato said in an earnings concall. The management, however, remains confident about food delivery ordering going up in the first quarter of FY24. Analysts, on the other hand, are not too confident about their ability to sustain growth beyond the first quarter as summer holiday and IPL impact during April/May are one-off events. Its other businesses, however, continue to display good growth. Blinkit’s gross order value grew 17% QoQ, while order volume grew 24%. Revenues of Hyperpure, its business to supply ingredients to restaurants, grew 13.5% QoQ. Offsetting margins with growth While it’s on a path to profitability, Zomato is also caught between a rock and a hard place — of growth versus margins. To boost growth, it will have to go in for discounts – the lack of aggressive discounting by all players is already visible in the moderation in food ordered during the IPL season, generally a big occasion for online food platforms. This year, the IPL spike in food ordering was at a modest 7% for the industry as compared to the 2020 IPL when it was over 50%, as per Redseer. This time, there were no high <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/ipl-2023-sees-tier-2-cities-order-more-on-swiggy-zomato/articleshow/100673879.cms">decibel ads along with deep discounts.</a> Like other players in the business, the company will also find it tough to keep up with the high margin trajectory, while also chasing growth. “Overall, we lower our growth assumptions for its food delivery’s gross order value growth, from around 20% to around 17%, but raise our FY24F contributory margin estimate from 5.8% to 6.5%. We continue to believe Zomato will find it difficult to achieve double-digit contributory margin, with high growth in the long term,” said Nomura. Restaurant commissions grow but may hit an ONDC wall In the last two years, the company was also able to improve take rates or the commissions it charges restaurants consistently. Its take rates are now close to 18%. “Broadly, with our take rates, the mission is to be competitive, and we are lower than what the competition is charging. So, as we continue to add more value to restaurant businesses, we expect some improvement in commission revenue going forward,” said Goyal. But competition is heating up in the sector. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade’s Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has breached the territory that was hitherto dominated by Zomato along with Swiggy. On the face of it, it might seem like restaurants might be offered better terms on ONDC. While Zomato will be able to compete with ONDC on efficiency and also even overall costs – as third party deliveries might be costlier– HSBC Global Research believes that it might flatten growth. “Estimates for food delivery revenue in the long term remain largely unchanged. Our short-term estimates change slightly as we build in a marginally slower increase in take rate,” the research firm said. In spite of short-term and long-term challenges ahead, Zomato seems to have settled into its listed company status to deliver value to investors by chasing topline growth instead of customers, with discounts.

With Zomato rallying over 25% in the past month, street looks at the road ahead

Since its listing, Zomato investors have seen their wealth decline by half, and there seems to be no letting up yet. Brokerages believe there might be a chance for the company to woo investors in a few years as there lies a huge opportunity in front of them. According to a report by JM Financial, Zomato’s path to operational profitability (also known as EBITDA profitability) requires two things. EBITDA is short for earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation. “We believe order volumes and contribution margin per order are two key variables that would determine Zomato’s path to profitability. Our analysis suggests the company can turn profitable in FY25 on a cash EBITDA basis if it were to reach annual order volumes of 1 billion (2.5x FY20 levels) and a contribution margin of around ₹21 per order,” said the report. Adding to it, the report says it sees a ramp-up beyond the food ecosystem can also provide incremental growth. It expects Zomato to follow global peers in terms of expanding beyond food delivery and explore adjacencies in the form of grocery delivery, alcohol delivery, medicine delivery, on-demand delivery and insta shopping. Its recent investment in Grofers and a majority stake in Fitso is a validation of expansion into adjacent areas, states the report. Gen Z population offers attractive growth opportunities to Zomato The number of online shoppers in India is <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/ecommerce/news/india-will-have-more-ecommerce-users-by-2025-than-us-population/articleshow/92062424.cms">expected to grow </a>to 300- 350 million by FY25 from 100-110 million in FY20 according to Bain &amp; Company. “With around 10 million monthly active users, the current penetration rate for Zomato within the online product shopper base works out to around 10%. We expect this penetration to increase to around 15% over the next 5 years, effectively growing the monthly active user base of Zomato to 45 million by FY26,” said the report. The brokerage expects the growth to be driven by the growing share of millennials/Gen Z in the ‘earning’ population and fast-growing e-commerce penetration beyond Tier-1 cities. Customer addition remains strong, but 9 out of 10 orders are from old users New customer additions by Zomato remained strong in Jan-Mar with around 5.5 million new additions. However, more than 90% of its food delivery business is being driven by repeat users compared to new users. “The company expects growth in the near term to be driven by repeat customers as there is substantial room for improvement in average annual ordering frequency (which is around 10 per user per year),” said the report by JM Financial. Zomato now operates in more than 1,000 cities across India as it added 300 plus new cities in Jan-Mar. Top 8 cities contributed around 60% to gross order value. However, its losses continue to swell, ballooning by nearly 50% in the March quarter to ₹1,222 crore, when compared to the previous year. Zomato’s path to profitability in the next three years requires two things, say analysts

<ul><li>The Nasdaq-listed Indian company’s total income went up 47% in Q4 compared to the same period last year. </li><li>By the end of the financial year, the company’s power capacity increased 28% on a YoY basis. </li><li><keyword id="944686" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="renew-power" source="Orion">Renew Power</keyword> says it expects to build 1,750-2,250MW of power capacity by the end of FY24. </li></ul>ReNew, one of India’s top green energy companies, posted a net profit of ₹7.4 crore ($1 million) for the fourth quarter of FY23. In the same quarter last year, it posted a net loss of ₹355 crore ($43 million). The Nasdaq-listed company saw its total income go up by 47% to ₹2,591 crore or $315 million on a YoY basis. Its adjusted EBITDA for the quarter stood at ₹1,201 crore ($146 million) as against ₹1,279 crore ($156 million) in Q4 FY22. EBITDA is earnings before interest, tax,depreciation and amortisation. By the end of FY23, the company’s portfolio consisted of 13.7 GW — which increased 28% on a YoY basis. Of this, around 8 GW is commissioned and 5.7 GW is committed. The renewable energy company with interests in wind and solar energy said that it has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) with various buyers to the tune of 101 megawatts during the quarter. “Only around 1% of our total portfolio have Letters of Award that await a PPA,” the company said in a press release. Its ability to collect payments also improved for the quarter over the last year, with Days Sales Outstanding at 138 days — which showed a 74-day improvement. Days sales outstanding is the average number of days that it takes to collect payment after a sale has been made. This is key for power generators who sell to utilities. For FY23, its total revenue increased by 29% to ₹8,930 crore ($1,087 million). However it posted a net loss of ₹503 crore ($61 million) for the financial year. For FY24, the company’s guidance involves generating a cash flow to equity of ₹600-800 crore. It also intends to post an adjusted EBITDA of ₹6,000-6,600 crore. This guidance however is subject to weather being similar to FY23, the company says. It also intends to build 1,750-2,250MW of power capacity by the end of the financial year.

ReNew Power posts net profit of $1 mn for Q4 but ends FY23 in the red

Kolkata, Battery and flashlight major <keyword id="166960" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Eveready-industries" source="Orion">Eveready Industries</keyword> India Ltd (EIIL) on Tuesday reported a 73.5 per cent increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 25.44 crore for the second quarter of the current fiscal on easing input cost. The city-based company had posted a net profit of Rs 14.73 crore in the corresponding quarter last fiscal, the company said in a regulatory filing. Revenue from operation during the July-September quarter was lower by three per cent to Rs 364.9 crore as compared to Rs 375.7 crore in the year-ago period. Operating EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation) margin improved to 12.7 per cent from 11.4 per cent in the second quarter of the 2022-23 fiscal. Eveready Industries said the revenue performance was nearly flat owing to the distribution revamp, which is expected to normalise in the coming quarters. Battery-operated flashlights continued to degrow despite healthy growth in rechargeable category, it said. "Favourable trends in key raw materials and stability in exchange rate created suitable conditions for margin expansion," the company said in a statement. "Our emphasis to grow within our existing business mix saw us successfully execute a very complex route to market in our distribution structure," Eveready Industries Managing Director Suvamoy Saha said. The initial moderation in uptake in batteries is expected to resolve in the coming quarters as stocks get replenished via more efficient pathways, he said. In its revamp journey with the new management under the Dabur family, Eveready has also unveiled a new logo and a tagline, aiming at wooing the new generation of consumers.

Eveready Q2 FY'24 net profit jumps 73% on easing input cost

<ul><li>Telecom sector’s aggregate gross revenues (AGR) are expected to grow at 11-12% CAGR over FY23-26.</li><li>Like in Q1, AGR growth in the next three years will be driven by data monetization and premiumisation.</li><li>During the same period, <keyword id="15491" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="airtel" source="Orion">Airtel</keyword> is expected to gain AGR market share due to its ‘sticky and premium’ subscribers. </li></ul>After suffering through years of disruptions and consolidations, the telecom sector is showing good signs of growth in aggregate gross revenues (AGR) driven by ‘premiumisation’ – higher 4G conversions and more post-paid subscriptions. The telecom sector’s AGR is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) at 12% between FY23-FY26. And, Bharti Airtel is expected to add more market share, say analysts. “Bharti’s AGR market share is likely to jump 125 basis points in the same period (FY23-FY26) to 37.5%, and RJio’s by 110 basis points to 42.5%,” said a research report by ICICI Securities. The signs are already visible from Q1FY24 performance of Airtel, as its AGR market share went up by 80 basis points. “Bharti's strong market share gains in B and C circles indicates traction on its rural expansion strategy,” said Jefferies as it expects sector revenues to grow at 11% CAGR over FY23-26 with market share gains for Bharti/Jio. Vodafone Idea’s market share has already declined to an all-time low in Q1, and market share losses could accelerate further, says Jefferies as 5G becomes mainstream. The company has been unable to start rolling out 5G due to its heavy debt, unlike its peers who have aggressively rolling it out. The era of tariff hikes The industry AGR recorded an 8% growth in Q1 even as the sector has not seen any tariff hikes in the last 12 months. This was driven by subscriber additions, data monetisation and premiumisation – conversion from 2G to 4G and from prepaid to postpaid. Going ahead, this trend will only add to AGR as well as ARPU growth. The average revenue per user (ARPU) is also expected to grow at a healthy pace of 10% over the next three years, estimates ICICI Securities. Moreover, there are tariff hikes to come. “We believe India wireless business tariff hikes are likely to be more frequent, going forward, given the consolidated industry structure and higher ARPU requirement to justify significant capex for 5G rollout,” said a report by J M Financial. In the last three years, the sector took two tariff hikes in December 2019 by around 25%, and another in December 2021 by around 15%. The companies were affected by the first tariff hike due to SIM consolidation, but the second hike smoothly flew into the AGR. ICICI Securities too expects another tariff hike in FY25 which is expected to be at around 10%. But this is not the only factor that can contribute to ARPU growth. Over 6% CAGR growth is expected to come from premiumisation and data monetisation. “Nonetheless, industry AGR performance in the past few quarters has shown organic growth (defined as AGR growth without tariff hike) can potentially sustain at much higher levels if operators execute better data monetisation,” ICICI Securities said. And when tariff hikes happen, it will only add to market share gains to Airtel. “Bharti is the biggest beneficiary of higher tariffs given the sticky and premium quality of its subscribers, ensuring that tariff hikes flow through to ARPU,” says J M Financial. Airtel set to narrow the gap with Jio as telecom users go premium

New Delhi, Unicorn Fintech firm <keyword id="143842" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MobiKwik" source="Orion">MobiKwik</keyword> on Tuesday reported its first ever consolidated profit at Rs 3 crore in the first quarter ended June 30, a senior company official said. MobiKwik Co-Founder and COO Upasana Taku told PTI that MobiKwik has become the first fintech firm to post consolidated profit and expects to maintain the momentum throughout the year. "We have registered an adjusted Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) of Rs 13.6 crore which is 181 per cent increase on a year-on-year basis. "This is the second consecutive quarter when we have posted positive EBITDA and the first quarter when we have posted consolidated profit after tax of Rs 3 crore. We expect to continue the growth momentum and achieve full-year profitability," Taku said. Taku said that she expects other startups also to turn profitable as it will give a boost to the investment environment in the country and sentiments of investors. She said that MobiKwik has been growing consistently without cash burn and margins have been improving quarter over quarter. "Our revenues grew to Rs 177 crores in the quarter, which is 68 per cent higher compared to corresponding quarter last fiscal and contribution margin rose by 108 per cent to Rs 73.9 crore," Taku said. In the March 2023 quarter, MobiKwik had posted revenue of Rs 160 crore and recorded an adjusted EBITDA of Rs 3 crore. "In FY 2022-23, we achieved all the major goals we set for MobiKwik the previous year. First quarter has been a good start to the fiscal year. Our numbers are positive in all parameters, be it adjusted EBITDA, EBITDA or PBT (profit before tax). We expect to deliver over 80 per cent topline growth for this fiscal year," Taku said. Peak XV backed MobiKwik ended the financial year 2022-23 with Rs 560 crore in revenue and became profitable from the fourth quarter of the financial year 2022-23, and its contribution margin rose to Rs 169.5 crore as compared to Rs 42 crores in FY 2021-22, nearly 304 per cent Y-o-Y growth. She said that the company gets about half of the business from payments services which is mainly payment made from wallet service and the rest of the half from distribution of financial services comprising buy-now-pay-later, consumer loans etc. The company at present has over 14 crore registered user base and around 40 lakh merchant partners.

MobiKwik posts first ever consolidated profit in Jun quarter 2023-24

Kolkata, Driven by robust growth, FMCG player <keyword id="40233" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="emami" source="Orion">Emami</keyword> Limited on Monday said its consolidated net profit for the first quarter of FY'24 surged by 88 per cent to Rs 136.75 crore, compared to Rs 72.69 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The company's consolidated revenues grew by 7 per cent to Rs 826 crore during the quarter. The company attributed the increase in net profit to strong growth in both its domestic and international businesses. "Excluding the sales of the summer portfolio, the domestic business grew strongly by 16 per cent, while the overall growth of the domestic business in Q1FY24 stood at 7 per cent. The pain management range, healthcare range, and BoroPlus achieved robust double-digit growth, and Dermicool posted high single-digit growth," the company said in a statement. International business grew by 8 per cent during the quarter, with robust growth in SAARC, GCC &amp; CIS regions. Emami reported relief in raw material cost pressure. The quarter witnessed a gross margin expansion of 240 basis points to 65.4 per cent. The company stated that despite investments in brand building and the integration of subsidiaries in the investment phase, EBITDA reached Rs 190 crore, expanding by 10 per cent, while the margin increased 60 basis points to 23 per cent. "While erratic summer weather and unseasonal rains impacted summer product offtakes, our non-summer portfolio grew strongly by 16 per cent. International business also continued its growth trajectory with 11 per cent constant currency growth. With inflation moderating further, we look to the future with increased optimism and confidence. The overall domestic business grew by seven per cent despite a challenging operating environment," Emami's Vice-Chairman and MD, Harsha V Agarwal, said. The company also concluded the buyback of its shares amounting to Rs 185.3 crore (excluding brokerage, taxes &amp; levies). Following the buyback, the share capital was reduced from 44.12 crore to 43.65 crore equity shares, and the promoter's stake increased from 54.27 per cent to 54.84 per cent. Emami shares jumped 2.19 per cent to close at Rs 560.05 at NSE.

Emami Q1FY'24 net up by 88% to Rs 137cr on strong demand

New Delhi, Dynamic Cables Ltd has posted a 59 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 11.38 crore during the April-June quarter on account of higher income. The company had clocked a net profit of Rs 7.17 crore during the corresponding period of the preceding 2022-23 fiscal, the company said in a regulatory filing on Monday. The company's total income also rose to Rs 182.14 crore in the quarter under review, from Rs 158.51 crore in the year-ago quarter, a rise of 16 per cent. In a separate statement, company's Managing Director Ashish Mangal said, "We have reported strong numbers in the first quarter of FY24. The growth was driven by healthy demand for our products across domestic and export markets. "We foresee a healthy business environment and long-term demand growth for power cables driven by multiple macro tailwinds." During the April-June period, the Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) margin was at 11.3 per cent, as compared to 9 per cent in the same quarter of the previous year, the company said. As on June 30, the company's order book was at Rs 394 crore. Dynamic Cables Ltd has three manufacturing units in Rajasthan, where it manufactures power infra cables that includes LT, HT, EHVC, power control and instrumentation cables, flexible and industrial cables, solar cables and railway signalling cables.

<keyword id="1553175" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vodafone-idea" source="Orion">Vodafone Idea</keyword>'s financial stress underlined by mounting losses and rising debt is likely to impact its financial lenders and have a bearing on employees and subscribers, <keyword id="6354972" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="icra" source="Orion">ICRA</keyword> said on Monday highlighting that government support is "critical" at this point. The support can be by way of deferment of spectrum dues, cut in levies, reduction in interest rates, and a combination of relief measures could aid financial profile and the structure of the industry. "Vodafone Idea has been under financial stress as reflected by mounting losses and burgeoning debt levels, which is likely to impact its financial lenders as well as Government, apart from having a bearing on its employees, its subscribers and associated industries, most prominently towers," ICRA said in a statement. In the event of <keyword id="634808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vil" source="Orion">VIL</keyword> exit, the tower industry may be confronted with vacation of around 180,000 tenancies that the telco currently occupies. Of these, only 40-50 per cent of the tenancies are expected to be regained by the tower companies over 18-24 months. "The telecom industry had been facing headwinds since the launch of services by Reliance Jio Infocomm (RJIL) which manifested into decline in revenue and profit generation," ICRA said noting that Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) dues had added to the industry's woes. Given the precarious position of the VIL balancesheet, material external support (primarily government) "might be necessary", it said. The support could be in the form of deferment of spectrum dues, reduction in levies, reduction in interest rates, suggested ICRA. Sabyasachi Majumdar, Group Head and Senior Vice President, ICRA, observed that as VIL owes Rs 23,400 crore to lenders and Rs 1,68,190 crore to government towards spectrum and AGR deferred dues as on June 30, 2021. "Over the last 12 quarters starting Q2FY2019, VIL has been reporting sizeable losses. Further, with the addition of AGR liabilities, the debt has burgeoned to more than Rs 2 lakh crore as on June 30, 2021 (including lease liabilities)," Majumdar said. This, along with churn in the subscriber base, mostly stagnant 4G user base, and pressure on ARPU levels have kept the revenue and profit generation muted, Majumdar pointed out. According to Ankit Jain, Sector Head and Assistant Vice President, ICRA, the most effective relief can come in the form of extension of moratorium on spectrum dues beyond FY2022, a move that could result in deferment of dues payable in FY2023 to the tune of Rs 32,000 crore for the industry, of which Rs 16,000 crore are VIL's. "Moreover, reduction in the levies paid by telcos, namely license fee and spectrum usage charges can also lift the <keyword id="63060" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ebitda" source="Orion">EBITDA</keyword>. A one per cent reduction in levies leads to annual saving of Rs 1,600 crore for the industry," Jain estimated. Besides, measures such as reduction in interest rates on telecom department's dues, increasing spectrum allotment tenure and introduction of floor tariffs can also further aid the industry. ICRA estimates that Re 1 increase in ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) translates into Rs 450-500 crore EBITDA accretion for the industry. A combination of these relief measures could aid the financial profile and the structure of the industry, Jain said.
