On the face of it, the new feature seems a value addition of sorts and more inclusive than before. From now on, you can directly send e-mail messages to <keyword id="2012953" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Anyone-on-Google">anyone on Google</keyword> Plus even if you don’t have their e-mail IDs and vice versa. Unless, of course, you have adjusted your settings. However, your <keyword id="2012904" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="E-mail-address">e-mail address</keyword> won’t be visible to senders until you mail them back. Similarly, you can’t see their e-mail IDs until they respond. But for all practical purposes, every <keyword id="51500" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gmail">Gmail</keyword> user now faces the risk of a massive <keyword id="2012908" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="E-mail-onslaught">e-mail onslaught</keyword> from a bunch of perfect strangers.<br />
<br /> You will find this new feature when you start typing in your contact’s name in the ‘To’ field of an <keyword id="2012903" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="E-mail-message">e-mail message</keyword>. Matching contacts will appear at the top of the ‘suggestion’ list and the <keyword id="2012919" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Google-Plus-connections">Google Plus connections</keyword> come below that. According to the <keyword id="354776" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="search-giant">search giant</keyword>, the feature will be fully functional in a few days, but do we really need this new level of integration between <keyword id="699770" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Google-Plus">Google Plus</keyword> and Gmail?<br />
<br /> The integration of the not-so-social networking service with other popular <keyword id="989743" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Google-products">Google products</keyword> has been a pronounced <keyword id="383688" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="business-strategy">business strategy</keyword> for some time now. Gmail saw first <keyword id="2012901" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Google-Plus-integration">Google Plus integration</keyword> in late 2011 that allowed automatic update of address book with a contact’s most recent information. <keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword> also added a widget to the Gmail sidebar to display a contact’s most recent <keyword id="2012922" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Google-Plus-post">Google Plus post</keyword> and allowed you to add them to your <keyword id="2012923" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Google-Plus-Circles">Google Plus Circles</keyword>.<br />
<br /> <keyword id="2012924" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Pushing-Google-Plus">Pushing Google Plus</keyword> into the mainstream has continued since. But when the <keyword id="2012927" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="YouTube-comment">YouTube comment</keyword> system was integrated with it in November last year, it certainly created a worldwide uproar. The new system requires users to <keyword id="2012929" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Log-in-to-Google-Plus">log in to Google Plus</keyword> for commenting on videos, thus forcing the <keyword id="6355103" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="social">social</keyword> site down the throat of those who would not have it otherwise. <keyword id="693389" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword> still maintains it is a goodhearted attempt at cleaning up <keyword id="10879" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="YouTube">YouTube</keyword>, but the latest move shows that the company would stop at nothing to spearhead its social network – even if it means compromising on <keyword id="1491669" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="User-privacy">user privacy</keyword>.<br />
<br /> As one can’t ignore the <keyword id="2012952" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Privacy-implications">privacy implications</keyword> of the current feature, Google has come up with specific measures that can check the potential deluge of e-mail messages. When it comes to controlling who can contact you, you can choose from ‘Anyone on Google+’, ‘<keyword id="2012954" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Extended-circles">Extended circles</keyword>’, ‘Circles’ and ‘<keyword id="2012956" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="No-one">No one</keyword>’ (in the mail I got, it’s in that order). Going for the last option means one can continue as before. If you choose ‘Circles’ or ‘Extended circles,’ the network broadens considerably. ‘Anyone on Google+’ may not be a palatable option unless you aim to become a <keyword id="6370207" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="lion">LION</keyword> (that’s what they are called on <keyword id="28120" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Linkedin">LinkedIn</keyword>, the acronym stands for <keyword id="2012958" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="LinkedIn-Open-Networker">LinkedIn Open Networker</keyword>) and boast your <keyword id="2012959" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Network-size">network size</keyword>.<br />
<br /> The new feature will also leverage Gmail’s tabbed interface that splits the inbox into sections such as <keyword id="60906" type="EVENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Primary">Primary</keyword>, Social, <keyword id="30372" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="promotions">Promotions</keyword> and more. Going forward, messages from contacts in your Google Plus Circles will appear under the Primary tab while e-mail from those outside your Circles can be found under Social. But in case you are still using the <keyword id="1659109" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Priority-inbox">Priority Inbox</keyword> interface instead of tabs, the additional load of messages will be extremely troublesome.<br />
<br /> But at the end of the day, what we fail to understand is why Google has to be this <keyword id="1921615" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="invasive">invasive</keyword> to push just one product. Gmail users may or may not be looking at a huge network or a Web wide party. However, people are certainly not keen to be bombarded with uncalled-for contacts just because the service provider wants to take them to a big, jolly get-together of networkers where millions will mingle and be happy. In fact, it should be totally by choice. LIONS become LIONS by choice and one is free to choose the number of <keyword id="6354576" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Facebook">Facebook</keyword> friends without any suggestion of invasion from these immensely popular networks. If Google is in too much of a hurry to dictate terms and amass unwilling followers at the cost of privacy and convenience, it is bound to spoil the party.<br />

The woman, Deborah Ramirez, is calling on the FBI to investigate the incident.</p><p>Meanwhile, Michael Avenatti, Stormy Daniel's attorney, on Sunday night <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/michael-avenatti-brett-kavanaugh-2018-9" target="_blank" rel="noopener">claimed to have evidence of further alleged sexual misconduct from Kavanaugh's high school years</a>.</p><p>In an email to Mike Davis, the chief counsel for nominations for the Senate Judiciary Committee, <a href="https://twitter.com/MichaelAvenatti/status/1044032678951960576">Avenatti said</a> he had evidence that at house parties in the early 1980s, Kavanaugh, his friend Mark Judge, and others would target women using alcohol and drugs "in order to allow a 'train' of men to subsequently gang rape them."</p><p>Avenatti demanded to present testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee and called for Kavanaugh's nomination to be withdrawn.</p><p>Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley on Sunday said in a statement the committee will <a href="https://twitter.com/Bencjacobs/status/1044054163460673536">"attempt to evaluate"</a> the new accusations.</p><p>Correspondingly, Senate Democrats are calling for proceedings to halt and <a href="https://twitter.com/SenBlumenthal/status/1044064400745943040">want the FBI to investigate</a>.</p><p>Prior to Sunday, Christine Blasey Ford, a California professor, had accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when they were teenagers at a high school party. Ford alleges Kavanaugh attempted to force himself on her and covered her mouth so people wouldn't hear her scream. Kavanaugh categorically denied her account.</p><p>On Monday morning, the <a href="https://mont.thesentinel.com/2018/09/24/supreme-court-nominee-kavanaugh-faces-more-allegations/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Montgomery County Sentinel reported</a> investigators are looking at a possibly fourth woman's allegation of sexual misconduct from Kavanaugh's senior year in high school. Investigators told the Maryland newspaper they weren't sure if the anonymous woman they interviewed was the one Avenatti was representing or not.</p><h2>What Kavanaugh has said</h2><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Kavanaugh has vehemently denied the allegations and is prepared to defend himself before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday. Ford is also set to testify to the committee.</p><p>In response to Ramirez's allegation against him, Kavanaugh said in a statement Sunday night:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"This alleged event from 35 years ago did not happen. The people who knew me then know that this did not happen, and have said so. This is a smear, plain and simple. I look forward to testifying on Thursday about the truth, and defending my good name - and the reputation for character and integrity I have spent a lifetime building - against these last-minute allegations."</p><h2>What the White House has said</h2><p>The <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/need-know-allegations-made-new-yorker-article-judge-brett-kavanaugh/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">White House sent an email just before midnight</a> on Sunday echoing Kavanaugh's denial, and politicizing Ramirez's accusation.</p><p>The email attempts to discredit Ramirez's accusation with a selective breakdown of The New Yorker article, such as the fact she admitted there were "significant gaps" in her memories about the event.</p><p>"It took six days of 'assessing her memories' for Ramirez to say she recalled Kavanaugh committing the alleged incident, and that came only after consulting with an attorney provided by the Democrats," the White House said.</p><p>White House spokeswoman Kerri Kupec also released a statement in response to Ramirez's accusation Sunday night saying they stand behind Kavanaugh:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"This 35-year-old, uncorroborated claim is the latest in a coordinated smear campaign by the Democrats designed to tear down a good man. This claim is denied by all who were said to be present and is wholly inconsistent with what many women and men who knew Judge Kavanaugh at the time in college say. The White House stands firmly behind Judge Kavanaugh."</p><p>Appearing on <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/kellyanne-conway-says-brett-kavanaugh-accusers-allegations-feel-like-a-vast-left-wing-conspiracy-2018-09-24/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">"CBS This Morning" on Monday</a>, counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway said the second allegation against Kavanaugh sounded like a "vast left-wing conspiracy."</p><p>"I know there's pent-up demand for women to get their day, women who have been sexually harassed and sexually assaulted - and I personally am very aggrieved for all of them - but we cannot put decades of pent-up demand for women to feel whole on one man's shoulders," Conway said. Trump and the White House have come out swinging at the new sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh, painting them as a 'smear' campaign

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>It was almost a year ago that I tried the Samsung Gear Live, one of the first smartwatches running Google's Android Wear operating system.</p><p>After a few hours with device, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/android-wear-first-impressions-2014-6">I wrote how much its constant notifications annoyed me</a>:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">I used one of the new Android Wear smartwatches, Samsung's Gear Live, for several hours Thursday, and my wrist hasn't stopped buzzing since I synced the device with my phone. </p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">New email? Buzz. New text? Buzz. The thing won't shut up. I'm one of those guys who obsessively checks his phone, but this is too much for me. <span>Plus Android Wear ties in with Google's digital assistant service Google Now, which attempts to help you out by notifying you about stuff it <em>thinks</em> you want to know about like upcoming flights or package deliveries. </span></p><p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span>So there are even </span><em>more</em><span> things to look at.</span></p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">This isn't the answer. Instead of solving the problem of whipping my phone out several times a day, Android Wear makes me nervous and anxious from all this hyper-connectivity. If I'm to ever go all in on a smartwatch it needs to be simpler than this.</p><p>Based on the first round of reviews, it sounds like the Apple Watch has a similar issue.</p><p>Here's an excerpt from <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2015-04-08/apple-watch-review-you-ll-want-one-but-you-don-t-need-one">Joshua Topolsky's review on Bloomberg</a>. He summed it up the best, but other reviewers had similar comments:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span>The notification scheme is a little maddening at first. Apple sends a push notification every time you get a corporate e-mail, personal e-mail, direct message on Twitter, message on Facebook, and for interactions in countless other services. Each of these notifications pings the watch. For every message, there is a sound, a vibration, or both. (You can mute them.) If you're a busy person who communicates constantly on your phone, this gets overwhelming fast. I found myself turning off notifications from entire apps, which seems to defeat the purpose of the watch in the first place. Mercifully, Apple has included a way to clear all those notifications: Just Force Touch on the list.</span></p><p>Apple is pitching the Apple Watch as a device that makes you <a href="http://www.wired.com/2015/04/the-apple-watch/">less dependent on your iPhone</a>. It sounds like the Apple Watch sends you a bunch of annoying notifications

Things move too fast, so investments and companies can fall apart if the funding doesn't come through.</p><p>It's especially hard when investors are listening to pitches from as many as 100 startups over two days and making decisions on the spot. That's why many Silicon Valley investment deals start out as handshakes.</p><p>Handshakes should mean a done deal, but that doesn't always happen, so startup accelerator Y Combinator instituted a formal "<a href="http://www.ycombinator.com/handshake/">Handshake Protocol</a>" in 2013.</p><p>A handshake deal only happens if:</p><ol><li>The investor says "I'm in for [offer]."</li><li>The startup says "Ok, you're in for [offer]."</li><li>The startup sends the investor an email or text message saying "This is to confirm you're in for [offer]."</li><li>The investor replies yes.</li></ol><p>That crucial step three is where handshake deals can fall apart.</p><p>So, why not turn to tech to solve the problem?</p><p>For this summer's Demo Day, a pitching exhibition for its startups, Y Combinator created a new "Handshake" button for investors in the audience, Y Combinator President Sam Altman said during the opening remarks. </p><p>Since investors (and press) are barraged with more than 50 pitches in three hours each day, Y Combinator has created a dashboard where investors can "like" or "handshake" a startup they are interested in. (Investors have had the option of "Liking" to express interest and get in touch with a startup for awhile.)</p><p>When an investor clicks on the handshake button, they can specify if they have already settled on the terms with the startup and it autogenerates an e-mail saying what they're in for. The startup gets the notification and can accept their virtual handshake. </p><p>Of course, most of these handshakes occur in person first, because startups have to negotiate the terms in the first place. Silicon Valley's top startup factory has a clever way to make sure investors follow through on 'handshake' deals

<p>Money manager, pundit and author Joshua Brown (aka <a href="http://www.thereformedbroker.com/">T</a><a href="http://www.thereformedbroker.com/">he Reformed Broker</a>) has a new book coming out this month co-authored with Jeff Macke. <p style="padding-left: 30px;">People love to hate on e-mail. I find this kind of amazing, given how essential it has become in our lives and how much better it is as a communications tool than anything that came before.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">I sent my first e-mail in 1994. Work account, not sure I had ever truly considered the odd @ sign on the keyboard before that. I remember being on the phone with a friend who lived across the country and batting back and forth our own versions of “Mr. Watson, come here” messages with the click of a button, amazed they were actually showing up on the other side. “You know, we can attach documents to these things,” he said at one point, a notion that was beyond my ability to comprehend at the time. How would we do that? Where do the pages go? Won’t they fall off?</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">And now, it seems universally despised. This advance that replaced the ludicrously inefficient process of picking up the phone and actually demanding to speak with someone, right then, to exchange thoughts or information. This thing that took the last real example of jaw-dropping communications technology, the fax machine, and rendered it completely obsolete. This thing that turned the Postal Service into the Pony Express.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">Why is this so? I’m taking a shot here, but let’s start with the sheer volume of messages we receive, and how few we actually care about. Quick scroll through Twitter and you’ll find no shortage of sophisticated and technologically aware people venting and flirting with declaring e-mail bankruptcy - a mass delete that results in a kind of First World nirvana known as in-box zero.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">Spam, phishing, chronic “reply all” offenders, there are plenty of systemic downsides to this particular form of interaction, to living at an address with a @ in the middle of it that a whole host of nefarious characters can find, barrage, hack or otherwise abuse.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">But, to me, that hardly makes up for the enormity of the advance that e-mail represents as a communications tool. Biz Stone went on Charlie Rose with Ev Williams a couple months ago to talk about their new platform, Medium. But the most interesting and true thing he said had to do with e-mail:</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">“E-mail is like the most intimate witness to our lives, in some capacity, and yet it hasn’t changed since the days of Hotmail and before. We keep files in there, we share pictures of our kids in there, there are receipts in there. E-mail knows a lot about our lives. I’ve been dying for someone to recreate e-mail and just come at it from a completely different angle. Like, show me all the pictures in my e-mail as a photo album right now. Show me all the Excel spreadsheets. Just present it to me in a different way … it’s ripe for reimagining, and someone will do it.”</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">Biz is right. Again. Particularly in an age of social media and selective sharing, e-mail is true, e-mail is real, e-mail is us. It’s the most accurate and unfiltered version of ourselves, at least the part that relates to corresponding and sharing with others.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">Our first personal e-mail accounts were on AOL, like everyone else. Accessed via dial-up modems on Dell computers. Think about that, our primary link to a Web-enabled world was placed in the hands of AOL, Dell and dial-up modems over telephone lines, and it still felt magical. The first real advance we experienced in electronic communications, after the arrival of “always-on” cable modems around 2000, was getting on Gmail in 2005. A revelation. Essentially unlimited storage, messages didn’t auto-delete after a few days, a truly “searchable” archive, clean and functional design. We loved it, stopped paying AOL and never looked back. We had the best e-mail service in the world, and have enjoyed it for years, without ever spending a dime or clicking on an ad - but that’s probably another post.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">And the messages piled up. Hundreds, thousands, we lost count, lost control. The occasional mass delete, clicking boxes on dozens of Google Alerts and e-commerce solicitations that missed the mark. But the database was always there, growing, “managed” in name only, like a garden hose waved vaguely in the direction of a California brush fire. Like walking through life hauling the digital equivalent of Santa’s sleigh behind you.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">The second great advance in the relatively short history of e-mail was mobile. Suddenly, we could carry our in-boxes around with us, on our person, liberated from the desktop and able to correspond from anywhere.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">The combination of Gmail and mobile leads to the third great advance in our e-mail experience, an iPhone app named Mailbox, specifically designed (for now) to be used with Gmail accounts.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">A few weeks ago, the cool kids on Twitter were buzzing about this new application, which was taking reservations for accounts. I threw my name on the list, about 100,000 people ahead of me. Waited my turn and, upon activation and a tap of the screen, my entire Gmail account was archived – I had a clean in-box for the first time since, well, 2005.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">It was a little jarring at first, to see this comprehensive database just disappear, but the messages were still there, they just weren’t in my face every time I went into my e-mail account. It was a fresh start, a new beginning. A better version of bankruptcy, one that didn’t result in credit problems or having to hire a lawyer.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">The whole objective of Mailbox, as far as I can see, is to give users the tools to maintain this important state of equilibrium. Messages arrive and are dealt with through three basic swipes that – respectively – archive the message, delete the message or snooze the message, which is then delivered again after a period of time you designate. Deal, delete, or delay.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">The vast majority of the mail I get falls into the instant delete category, so I rarely opt for the snooze function, but it’s a terrific and customizable option. The whole experience has changed my perceptions of e-mail management. I feel like this communications tool, incredibly important in my life, is finally under control and able to be processed in an orderly and effective way.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">This is what my in-box usually looks like now, and I hope it never changes.</p>

The White House <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/trump-james-comey-firing-reasons-2017-5" target="_blank" rel="noopener">initially said</a> Comey was fired because of the way he handled the FBI's investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server. But Trump <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/trump-james-comey-firing-reasons-2017-5" target="_blank" rel="noopener">later said</a> on national television that he fired Comey, in part, because of "this Russia thing." He also reportedly told two top Russian government officials that the FBI director's dismissal had taken "great pressure" off of him. </p><p>After Comey's firing, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller as special counsel in charge of the Russia investigation. Typically, the appointment of a special counsel falls on the attorney general. But Sessions was forced to recuse himself from the Russia investigation last March, after it emerged that he failed to disclose his interactions with Sergei Kislyak, then Russia's ambassador to the US, during his Senate confirmation hearing in January.</p><p>Sessions' recusal is a key point of frustration for Trump, who once <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/trump-why-cant-i-have-my-guys-at-trump-justice-department-do-my-bidding-2018-1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly asked</a> why he couldn't order "my guys" at the "Trump Justice Department" to do what he wanted. </p><p>When the Russia investigation began picking up steam last summer, so did Trump's <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/jeff-sessions-trump-russia-tweet-schiff-beleagured-2017-7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">attacks</a> on his hand-picked attorney general. </p><p>"So why aren't the Committees and investigators, and of course our beleaguered A.G., looking into Crooked Hillarys crimes &amp; Russia relations?" Trump tweeted on July 24.</p><p><span>In another tweet minutes later, Trump called California Rep. Adam Schiff, the ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, "sleazy" and "totally biased," and accused him of spending "all of his time on television pushing the Dem loss excuse!"</span></p><p><span>The House Intelligence Committee is one of several congressional bodies investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 race. While Republicans on the panel have been investigating what they characterize as the FBI's misconduct in the Russia investigation, Schiff has been leading the Democrats' calls to focus on the central question of whether members of the Trump campaign colluded with Moscow to sway the 2016 race in his favor.</span></p><p><span>Trump continued his Twitter rampage the next day. "Attorney General Jeff Sessions has taken a VERY weak position on Hillary Clinton crimes (where are E-mails &amp; DNC server) &amp; Intel leakers!" Trump <a href="https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/889790429398528000" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tweeted</a>. </span></p><p><span>"Why didn't A.G. Sessions replace Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, a Comey friend who was in charge of Clinton investigation ..." he <a href="https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/890207082926022656" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tacked on</a> the following day. McCabe was <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/fbi-deputy-director-andrew-mccabe-quit-2018-1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">forced out</a> of the FBI earlier this year amid an internal investigation into his handling of the Clinton email probe. </span></p><p>Trump's tweets last summer came after he admitted, during an<span> </span><a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/19/us/politics/trump-interview-transcript.html">interview with The New York Times</a><span> </span>the previous week, that he would not have nominated Sessions to be attorney general if he had known Sessions would recuse himself from the Russia investigation.</p><p>"Sessions should have never recused himself, and if he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me before he took the job, and I would have picked somebody else," Trump told the Times.</p><p>Sessions again sparked Trump's ire when he<span> </span><a href="https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/27/politics/sessions-fisa-fbi-justice-carter-page-nunes-memo/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced Tuesday</a><span> </span>that the Justice Department's inspector general, Michael Horowitz, was investigating House Intelligence Committee Republicans' accusations - laid out in a<span> </span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/category/nunes-memo">controversial memo</a><span> </span>released earlier this month - that the FBI abused its authority in seeking a warrant to surveil a former Trump campaign adviser in 2016.</p><p>House Democrats on Saturday<span> </span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/democrats-release-declassified-nunes-rebuttal-memo-2018-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released a memo</a><span> </span>countering those claims, arguing that the Justice Department and the FBI provided ample evidence to the surveillance court that justified seeking the so-called FISA warrant.</p><p>Horowitz has been the department's inspector general<span> </span><a href="https://oig.justice.gov/about/meet-ig.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">since 2012</a>.</p><p>Following Sessions' announcement, Trump got on Twitter to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/trump-slams-sessions-inspector-general-fisa-investigation-2018-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">unleash another barrage of criticism</a> toward the attorney general. </p><p><span>"Why is A.G. Jeff Sessions asking the Inspector General to investigate potentially massive FISA abuse," </span><a href="https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/968856971075051521" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Trump tweeted</a> Wednesday<span>, referring to surveillance warrants granted by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. "Will take forever, has no prosecutorial power and already late with reports on Comey etc. Isn't the I.G. an Obama guy? Why not use Justice Department lawyers? DISGRACEFUL!"</span></p><p><span>Sessions was seen dining with the Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Solicitor General Noel Francisco on Wednesday in what the <keyword id="6355005" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="News">news</keyword> website Axios described as <a href="https://www.axios.com/scoop-jeff-sessions-dines-with-rod-rosenstein-solidarity-1519865511-4afe726b-6642-4ca5-8ebf-e9f0600df79b.html?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=organic">a show of solidarity</a>.</span></p><p><span>Trump's social-media tirades have raised ethical questions before. </span></p><p><span>Experts were <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/trump-defends-flynn-there-was-nothing-to-hide-2017-12" target="_blank" rel="noopener">floored</a> in December, when Trump tweeted, one day after former national security adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to making false statements to investigators in the Russia investigation, that he had to fire Flynn in February 2017 because Flynn "lied to the FBI."</span></p><p><span>Comey testified to the Senate Intelligence Committee last June that Trump asked him, during a private Oval Office meeting the day after Flynn was fired, to drop the FBI's investigation into the former national security adviser. Comey gave no indication that he would do so, and he was fired three months later. </span></p><p><span>Legal experts said that if Trump knew Flynn had misled investigators when he asked Comey to let go of the investigation, as his tweet suggested, it would significantly bolster the obstruction against him. </span></p><p><span>Trump's personal defense lawyer later took responsibility for the tweet, claiming he had authored it. <p>However, in tech media circles, D'Aloisio was already well known.</p>
<p>In 2011, Gizmodo's Casey Chan <a href="http://gizmodo.com/5830076/how-i-made-a-15+year+old-app-developer-cry">wrote about making D'Aloisio cry</a>. Chan covered apps for Gizmodo. So, D'Aloisio emailed Chan to see if he would write about his app, which was called Trimit at the time.</p>
<p>Chan said he was interested in the app. This led to D'Aloisio going nuts.</p>
<p>"Over the course of a few days, D'aloisio berserker barraged me with over a hundred e-mails about Trimit," says Chan, "I saw him go from calm to excited to a nervous wreck to suffering a nervous break down to threatening to bat shit crazy to borderline suicidal."</p>
<p>D'Aloisio never mentioned that he was only 15 at the time.</p>
<p>After not getting quick responses from Chan, he went on to email everyone else at Gizmodo. In response to D'Aloisio's email barrage, Gizmodo decided to name Trimit the "worst app of the week." But, the editors felt bad about that, so they just pulled the coverage altogether.</p>
<p>This sent D'Aloisio over the edge. He wrote to Chan:</p>

<p>While this appears to be the ramblings of a crazy person, it also shows someone with a dedication, focus, and energy to succeed. (And, again, he was 15!)</p>
<p>Gizmodo wasn't the only publication that got aggressive emails from D'Aloisio. He was in our writers' inboxes too.</p>
<p>While we don't want to encourage others to bomb our inbox with pitches, we think his behavior reveals a big part of the reason he's successful.</p>
<p>The kid is a hustler. He works hard. He's aggressive. He went after his investors, he pursued the media.</p>
<p>In one of his interviews from yesterday <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/17-year-old-startup-millionaire-want-to-be-like-me-just-do-it-2013-3">he told people who want to be like him</a>: "If you have a good idea, or you think there's a gap in the market, just go out and launch it because there are investors across the world right now looking for companies to invest in."</p>
<p>This is obviously an oversimplification, but it's not terribly far from the truth. If you have a good idea, and you're willing to work incredibly hard like D'Aloisio, you'll probably find success.</p>

The Secret To 17-Year-Old Nick D'Aloisio's $30 Million Success: Amazing Hustle

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Imagine this: You own a business. A&#xa0;giant competitor comes and offers to buy it, but allows you to continue running it.<p>Then, after you sign the sale agreement, you start to think this giant wants you to&#xa0;do things that seem wrong, even illegal.</p><p>You protest, but the new owner doesn't stop. So you stop doing your job. You&#xa0;withhold cash.</p><p>And then you tear up the sale agreement and sue.</p><p>This is the story of&#xa0;Russel Reitz and his business, R&amp;O Pharmacy. To be clear&#xa0;- this is Reitz's side of the story, told in legal filings.</p><p>The giant, and the target of Reitz's lawsuit, is Philidor, a Pennsylvania-based specialty pharmacy&#xa0;with over 700 employees that services&#xa0;only one client:&#xa0;Valeant Pharmaceuticals.</p><p>Reitz alleges that Philidor was misusing R&amp;O's&#xa0;insurance credentials&#xa0;and&#xa0;signing off on audits without enough information.&#xa0;The lawsuit, over a deal worth only&#xa0;$350,000, provides no direct evidence of accounting fraud&#xa0;at Valeant.</p><p>But it did trigger&#xa0;the&#xa0;fury that&#xa0;has surrounded the Canadian company and its chief executive Michael Pearson&#xa0;for the past two weeks.</p><p>It has given fodder to&#xa0;a short-seller's allegation&#xa0;that Valeant is&#xa0;using specialty pharmacies to&#xa0;book "phantom revenue," and prompted a barrage of questions about what&#xa0;Valeant's relationship with&#xa0;companies like Philidor and R&amp;O actually is, and why it was never disclosed to investors.</p><p>It doesn't own them, Valeant says, but it could buy Philidor without making any additional payments on top of the $100 million it already shelled out for an option to acquire it.&#xa0;</p><p>Valeant includes Philidor's - and therefore R&amp;Os - sales with its own, but it denies any legal responsibility for the company. This isn't enough of an explanation for investors who have wiped more than one-third off of Valeant's market value.</p><p>Valeant has said it will look into practices at the specialty pharmacies, which are essentially telemarketing and customer-service operations that are used to sell drugs directly to consumers.&#xa0;&#xa0;The company's spokeswoman, Meghan Gavigan at Sard Verbinnen &amp; Co., didn't reply to repeated requests to comment on the&#xa0;claims outlined in R&amp;O's filings, and detailed below.</p><p>Philidor's general counsel Gretchen Wisehart referred to previous statement's the&#xa0;company has made about its <a href="http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20151021006812/en/Philidor-Rx-Services-Comments-Network-Pharmacy-Relationships">relationship</a> with R&amp;O&#xa0;- which says it doesn't have a "direct equity ownership in R&amp;O Pharmacy" but<br><span>"but does have a contractual right to acquire the pharmacies."</span><span><br /></span></br></p><h2>Disclosure</h2><p>Valeant disclosed the existence of Philidor and its network of pharmacies last week&#xa0;- including acknowledging that it has already paid $100 million&#xa0;for an option to buy Philidor.</p><p>By that point, Valeant had<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">&#xa0;been under pressure for weeks, first facing questions over drug pricing and then again after&#xa0;short seller Andrew Left published a report&#xa0;alleging Valeant was booking "phantom" sales.</span></p><p>As proof,&#xa0;Left offered&#xa0;a document included in court filings in the R&amp;O/Philidor case. It was an invoice from Valeant demanding $69 million in unpaid product sales from R&amp;O.</p><p>At that point Wall Street had little understanding of what R&amp;O was, or why it responded to Valeant's letter by claiming it had no relationship with Valeant.</p><h2>Who owns you?</h2><p>Reitz signed the deal to sell R&amp;O&#xa0;on December 1, 2014. The agreement was with a&#xa0;company&#xa0;called Isolina, founded a month earlier for the sole purpose of purchasing R&amp;O.</p><p>As part of the&#xa0;case,&#xa0;Reitz&#xa0;suggests&#xa0;that he didn't know&#xa0;Isolini was an extension of Philidor.</p><p>This&#xa0;seems implausible, or at the very least a careless oversight on his part: Isolani's sole member is&#xa0;<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/pub/eric-rice/10/aa1/298">Philidor Senior Director Eric Rice,</a>&#xa0;and Isolani's address on the&#xa0;<a href="https://www.scribd.com/doc/287265604/R-O-Purchase-Agreement">purchase agreement</a>&#xa0;is the same Horsham, Pennsylvania address that Philidor uses.</p><p>Isolina paid Reitz 10% of the purchase price, or just $35,000, and entered into an agreement in which Isolina would "manage" R&amp;O (taking all of its profits) for one year, or until certain criteria were met and the two parties could close the deal.</p><p>Here's the criteria:</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Then,&#xa0;things began to&#xa0;unravel.</p><p>Reitz started demanding to know the relationship between Philidor and Isolina. He wanted to know why he was sending checks to Philidor, not Isolina.&#xa0;</p><p>In July, Rice, along with Philidor CEO Andy Davenport, Controller Jamie Flemming, and in-house counsel Wisehart flew to California to speak with Reitz, who was still acting pharmacist-in-charge.&#xa0;</p><p>They had come to see him about serious allegations that Reitz made about their business practices.&#xa0;</p><p>Reitz was asking&#xa0;why Philidor employees were trying to sign off on audits that he, as pharmacist-in-charge, did not approve for lack of information.&#xa0;</p><p><span>And he wanted to know why Philidor was using R&amp;O's insurance credentials for sales other pharmacies.</span></p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>At one point, Davenport, Philidor's CEO, promised that&#xa0;Philidor would stop using his credentials though he "felt comfortable with the practice".</p><p>But it didn't stop, according to Reitz, so he started withholding checks from Philidor, and then on&#xa0;August 31, Reitz's lawyer sent Philidor's attorney a "Notice of Terminations of Agreements Procured by Fraud" canceling the sale of Philidor and all other agreements.</p><p>Sometime&#xa0;after that, Valeant's lawyers - also Philidor's lawyers - sent Reitz the now-infamous letter cited by Citron Research demanding $69 million. Reitz and his lawyer responded by saying they'd never been billed by Valeant before.</p><p>In his declaration on September 8, Eric Rice said that if R&amp;O didn't start cashing the checks that Reitz was withholding, its cash flow problems would force it to shut down in 10 days. But R&amp;O stayed open.</p><p>In legal disputes, claims can often be overblown&#xa0;for the sake of negotiation. It's not clear if Rice was bluffing, or if someone else paid the bills. If its the latter, its not known who.&#xa0;</p><h2>The meaning of "sold"</h2><p>Going back to the conditions of R&amp;O's sale, you have to wonder if Philidor/Isolina ever really intended to close. It was already managing R&amp;O and collecting all of its revenue.</p><p>Plus, it hadn't fulfilled the conditions set forth in their purchase agreement, namely getting Isolina a permit to operate in California. Reitz brought this up to Rice in an e-mail date July 14. He thought the process was taking entirely too long.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>To apply for a pharmacy license in California, even to execute a partial sale of a portion a pharmacy from one entity to another, the parties involved in the deal have to answer one important question:</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>For anyone affiliated with Philidor the answer to that question is yes. Philidor's&#xa0;application to operate in California <a href="http://sirfonline.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/files/2015/10/Davenport_Calrejection.pdf">was denied</a> in December of 2014.</p><p>In it's denial, the state of California said that Philidor failed to show how it kept a record of all the substances being dispensed from its pharmacy, and did not provide financial information about Philidor's partners.</p><p>It also said that Matthew Davenport, CEO Andy Davenport's brother, made "false or misleading statements" about who was in charge of Philidor's accounting and its ownership structure.</p><p>From the rejection (emphasis ours)</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">On July 24, 2013, in Respondent's application for licensure, Respondent made a false statement of fact with the intent to benefit Respondent, in that Matthew Davenport certified under penalty of perjury in section "E" of the "Parent Corporation or Limited Liability Company Ownership Information" <strong>application form that there were no entities with 10% or more ownership interest in Respondent.</strong> <strong>In fact, at that time, there was one (1) individual and one (I) corporate entity with more than 10% ownership interest in Respondent.</strong></p><p>Valeant maintains that - although it can buy Philidor for nothing, because it already&#xa0;paid $100 million for an option to acquire the company&#xa0;- it does not own Philidor or have legal liability for its actions.&#xa0;</p><p>But that doesn't mean anyone will stop asking questions. Senator Claire McCaskill, who has called out Valeant for price gouging in the past, has promised to continue scrutinizing the company. What happened to this pharmacy after joining Valeant's 'specialty network' is every CEO's worst nightmare

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>David McNew/Reuters</span></p><p class="caption">Disney CEO Bob Iger.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Disney shares are tanking following the company's quarterly earnings release on Tuesday.</p><p>It appears investors are spooked about ESPN and whether the recent dent in its subscriber numbers, and the huge consumer behavior change away from watching TV in the traditional way, will lead to uncertainty about its long-term future. Many people are moving away from big cable subscriptions with scheduled TV on a box in the living room to on-demand video, via myriad devices, from over-the-top digital services like Netflix. </p><p>Disney has reduced its expected percentage subscriber growth for ESPN for the year from high single digits to mid single digits. Ad revenue at ESPN dropped 3% year-over-year in the third quarter (although this was against a tough comparison, as the FIFA World Cup took place in 2014.) And the company admitted on the earnings call it had experienced "modest sub[scriber] losses."</p><p>Any nervousness around ESPN is a huge concern for Disney. As BTIG analyst Rich Greenfield pointed out on Tuesday night, <a href="https://twitter.com/RichBTIG/status/628681826152914944">cable accounts for half of Disney's profit.</a> It's a fundamental part of the business.</p><p>Disney CEO Bob Iger addressed ESPN right from the outset on the company's earnings call, <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/disney-ceo-bob-iger-on-espn-2015-8?r=US&amp;IR=T">in a lengthy defense of the unit.</a></p><p>But that wasn't enough for the analysts on the call (<a href="http://seekingalpha.com/article/3398955-walt-disneys-dis-ceo-bob-iger-on-q3-2015-results-earnings-call-transcript?part=single">you can read the full transcript at Seeking Alpha here</a>). They began a barrage of questions:</p><ul><li><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">First up was Michael Nathanson, at MoffettNathanson, on those subscriber losses.</span></li><li><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Then came Alexia </span>Quadrani<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> at JP Morgan, on how Disney can balance the shift from linear TV to over-the-top platforms.</span></li><li><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Then Sanford Bernstein's Todd Juenger asked what kind of protections or options Disney is looking for if subscriber losses accelerate.</span></li><li><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">BAML's Jessica Reif Cohen asked about TV viewing habits (admittedly not in relation to ESPN, but films.)</span></li><li><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Nomura's Anthony DiClemente asked about ESPN guidance, with reference in the increase in broadcast rights fees the NBA will bring on board in 2017.</span></li><li><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Doug Mitchelson from UBS wanted to know whether the "moderating" EBIT growth in Disney's cable networks from 2013 to 2016 had anything to do with currency, or whether it was just subscriber growth.</span></li><li><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Ben Swinburne from Morgan Stanley asked about ESPN and ABC ad sales, and whether Disney expects those businesses to grow over time.</span></li><li><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Nearly all the questions on the call were about ESPN!</span></li></ul><h2>Wall Street isn't really convinced by Disney's responses</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_left"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="https://twitter.com/ericjackson">Twitter</a></span></p><p class="caption">Eric Jackson.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Writing in his e-mail newsletter, Ironfire Capital founder Eric Jackson, summed up what he thought Disney's Iger was saying: "Don't worry about OTT and other threats to the bundle because people love our programming and we just locked that programming up for a decade. We'll make that programming available in whatever digital format presents itself." <a href="https://stratechery.com/2015/why-disney-and-espn-will-be-ok/">(It's the same argument made by Stratechery's Ben Thompson.)</a></p><p>But Jackson says that argument isn't foolproof. ESPN (and indeed the rest of the market) is entering unchartered territory when it comes to digital, OTT services.</p><p>"What if OTT and any new digital format is one-tenth as profitable as the Euro-socialist cable bundle? If you trade analog dollars for digital dimes, how do you wave your hands and chance basic economics?" Jackson writes.</p><p>ESPN gets around $6 per cable subscriber. How will that compare with online-only subscribers? And, all the while, <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/mediatechnologyandtelecoms/media/11402592/BT-and-Sky-face-70pc-football-rights-inflation.html">sports broadcasting rights fees are going up and up.</a> The Wall Street Journal has previously cited analysts saying <a href="http://www.wsj.com/articles/espn-tightens-its-belt-as-pressure-on-it-mounts-1436485852?mod=WSJ_article_EditorsPicks_1">ESPN would need to charge $30</a> for an OTT offering to bring the same amount as a cable bundle. Will people pay that kind of amount when their current OTT services like Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Instant Video cost a fraction of that?</p><p>Iger argued that these new services, like Netflix are "more friend than foe" because they're a customer of Disney's (when it comes to movies and programming beyond live sports.) He said that Americans watch around 5.5 hours of TV every single day. Iger said that's going to go up to around 6 hours due to technology services like Netflix making it easy to view TV on-demand, and in a cheaper way than on cable services.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>The Nielsen Company</span></p><p class="caption">Nielsen says people in the US watch TV for more than 5 hours a day.</p></div><p></p></div></div>He concluded that Disney, ABC, and ESPN are well-positioned to take advantage of disruptive technologies - like streaming and skinnier cable bundles - but it still believes its traditional expanded service will be solid "for years to come." And for that reason, he doesn't see a reason to launch an "over the top" service that would allow customers to buy ESPN as a standalone product, without an expensive bundle of other channels. It's got all the sports you need to watch, why would people stop paying for that?</p><p>Jackson mocks this response: "It's all good. When the zombie apocalypse comes, our daughters will be watching Teen Beach 2, our sons will be watching Jessie, and Dad will be watching football. When a company goes out of its way to communicate how some big immovable object is not a problem, it's a problem."</p><p>ESPN, Disney's "big immovable object" and <a href="http://variety.com/2015/tv/news/ratings-espn-tops-cable-for-year-own-hallmark-we-tv-among-few-gainers-1201391036/">the most-watched cable station in America</a>, may still be mountainous in size for some time to come. But its glacial speed at which it is reacting to changing viewing habits could prove costly. Cord-cutting in the US accelerated in the first three months of 2015, <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2015/05/11/cord-cutting-accelerates-first-quarter-2015/27133979/">according to research firm Moffett Nathanson</a>. The cord-cutters are chipping away at the iceberg - ESPN has lost more than 3 million subscribers in a little more than a year. And those consumers are demanding a more a la carte way to consume their content.</p><p>That hasn't gone unnoticed.</p><ul><li><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">Jefferies analyst John Janedis</strong><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> downgraded the rating on Walt Disney stock from buy to hold, due to the company's reduced earnings expectations and revised outlook for the cable segment. </span></li><li><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">BMO Capital Markets' Dan Salmon</strong><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> downgraded the stock from outperform to market perform. On ESPN, the note read: "After CEO Iger raised the possibility of a direct-to-consumer product for ESPN in a recent interview, it appears this is not a near-term option ... we believe keeping the DTC option in </span>the quiver<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> will keep ESPN affiliate fee growth in the 'skeptical' column."</span></li><li><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">Morgan Stanley analyst Benjamin Swinburne</strong><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> noted Disney's "incremental subscriber erosion from cord-cutting/shaving" and FX headwinds. </span></li></ul><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Jackson summarized in his newsletter: "Watch for other cable players with similar affiliate sub fee revenue cash cows now at risk to show weakness tomorrow on the backs of this report. Lots of people aren't convinced by Disney CEO Bob Iger's argument that ESPN will continue to dominate for years to come

<p class="p1"><strong>SEE, FACEBOOK'S TEENS HAVEN'T TOTALLY JUMPED SHIP:</strong> Since last year, the biggest story around Facebook has been the notion that teens have taken their social activity elsewhere, to sites like Snapchat and Instagram, with user bases known to be quite young. But this story has been overblown, as new data shows. </p>
<p class="p1">SocialBakers, a social media analytics company, looked at the interactions generated by 960 million Facebook Pages and found that among 13- to 24-year-old users the number of interactions with content on those Pages increased by nearly 30% over the course of 2013. This doesn't mean the actual number of teens and young adults increased over that period, but the increase in activity is healthy. This is a good sign that Facebook is still relevant to younger users.</p>
<p class="p1">However, when looking at the youngest teens, those 13- to 17-years-old, growth in engagement with Pages was flat, according to the data. This may mean teens become much more Facebook-reliant as they age out of high school. But as long as flat usage among teenagers doesn't lead to total abandonment by age 18, Facebook's teen problem is really a much more limited issue. And users aged 18 to 24 still represent the biggest, most active age group on the site. <p class="p1"><strong>LINE RAKES IN THE CASH:</strong> Mobile messaging app LINE now has <a href="https://intelligence.businessinsider.com/line-now-has-330-million-registered-users-but-it-is-facing-stiff-competition-from-whatsapp-and-wechat-2014-1">330 million registered</a> users, which we estimate translates to about 202 million monthly active users. LINE boasts the highest revenue of any non-gaming app, according to App Annie's latest index. The platform has two different types of in-app content users can pay for - tokens purchased within LINE's in-app games and stickers, which are like emojis. Between a massive user base and a strong monetization model, LINE, based in Japan, has not only become the highest-grossing app, it has also helped push Japan ahead of the U.S. as the market that generates the most app revenue.</p>
<p class="p1">There's an important caveat, though: WeChat, an even bigger mobile messaging app with a massive user base in China, also started offering in-app purchases last year. However, its revenue isn't well represented in App Annie's data, which only covers the Apple App Store and Google Play. Most Chinese users download from app stores besides Google Play. Nonetheless, whether LINE is first or second worldwide for app revenue, there is no question mobile messaging apps are platforms that successfully pull in a tremendous amount of money from users. <p class="p1"><strong>TWITTER SEARCH IMPROVES:</strong> Twitter has added more targeted search features, allowing users to search by people, photos, video, news and location. Content is becoming increasingly important to Twitter, particularly photos, video and news, so the change is likely a way to help users more easily surface this content. The added features also come as some Twitter users have voiced complaints about a barrage of information that is turning the social network into an echo chamber of sorts. Better search functionality could help users cut through that noise to find what they're looking for. <p class="p1"><strong>BIG PLANS FOR FACEBOOK GRAPH SEARCH ... EVENTUALLY:</strong> In the fourth quarter earnings call, Mark Zuckerberg was asked about Facebook's Graph Search, which hasn't been terribly well-reviewed. Zuckerberg suggested that the effort with Graph Search and indexing the content on Facebook as a whole is part of a big, ongoing big data project,  the likes of which might help Facebook eventually rival traditional search engines, maybe even Google. "There's just so much content that people have shared on Facebook that simply building the infrastructure to index all of it and start ranking it is a multiyear effort, which we're making our way through," Zuckerberg said. "The three-year plan is really all about building new kinds of experiences for sharing ... The five-year approach is really mostly about helping people use their network to answer interesting questions or solve problems that they have." A white paper is set to be released in two weeks analyzing the findings. We'll look out for that and let you know what the analysis uncovers. The effort is a sign that social TV will be a big push for Facebook this year, for both advertising and content curation purposes.
