This is among the first such seller-focused teams formed by the 13-year-old company. Sellers from <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> have been using <a href="https://www.vogue.in/content/etsy-makes-way-indias-untapped-community-local-entrepreneurs/#s-cust0">Etsy </a>since the early days of the company and there are currently more than 650,000 items available on Etsy from Indian sellers including ethnic jewellery, traditional clothes, parasols, fabrics, bed-covers, and quilts, among other items. However, on their India launch, the company did not disclose the number of Indian sellers. To get the ball rolling, the <a href="https://qz.com/1336123/etsy-has-a-plan-to-corner-indias-crafts-market/">e-commerce </a>website is planning to recruit and assist new sellers online and offline, by offering free listings and incentives to all new sellers in India on the platform. It will also host workshops to introduce existing and potential sellers to each other. This offers Indian sellers the opportunity to grow their business and create a marketplace for authentic Indian handicrafts. The scenario here, however, is different from what it would have been if any other successful MNC would have entered the country. Etsy will encourage craftsmen to continue their family trades, instead of forcing them to switch to more ‘modern’ jobs. Furthermore, it could also help budding artists and designers to set up their own trades with minimal investment. Founded in <keyword id="71339" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Brooklyn">Brooklyn</keyword> in 2005, the company connects two million creative entrepreneurs, 87% of whom are women, with nearly 35 million buyers from nearly every country around the world. The company generated $3.25 billion in gross merchandise sales in 2017. India as always been an important market to Etsy as it has seen “interesting organic activity, without us having to do much”.

<ul><li>India has reportedly decided to not participate in the e-commerce discussions with the World Trade Organisation (WTO) scheduled to begin in March. </li><li>India is concerned about the proposed custom duties of electronic transmissions. </li><li>India’s own draft e-commerce policy that was released on Saturday could help strengthen the opposition against the WTO’s e-commerce rules.</li></ul>India won’t be participating in the World Trade Organization (WTO) talks on e-commerce next month because of concerns over unfair market access to foreign players. India also just came out with its own draft of the e-commerce policy on Saturday, but its main concern with WTO is the proposed custom duties on electronic transmissions. A commerce department official <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/economy-policy/india-refuses-to-join-e-commerce-talks-at-wto-says-rules-to-hurt-country-119022500014_1.html">told</a> Business Standard, “WTO rules come into effect for all 164 members and need to be ratified by each, but for the first time a major decision has been taken without complete consensus among member nations. We will not encourage a multilateral platform to run, based on the interests of a few nations. Our policy will deal with concerns such as cross-border data flow.” Most global e-commerce players haven’t been too subtle about the fact that India is a ‘strategic market’ for them. India claims the new rules put forth by the WTO could provide unfair market access to foreign companies, something they’ve been working hard to deter despite opening the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) pipelines. Tax on tax The draft e-commerce policy that the Indian government put out on Saturday favours not imposing any customs duties on electronic transmissions — basically any type of digital trade — which is in contradiction to the WTO’s e-commerce policy.

Even so, a lot of them don't disappear completely. The brands strive on in some form.
At the least, their domain names survive as the last remnant of once-great brands.
So what happens when you plug in the old domain names of these dead retailers? 
Well, some of them really are dead, only living through a zombie domain that redirects you to the new owner's site.
Other brands, though, have been resurrected.

Amazon, the leading e-commerce company in India, has decided to run a pilot programme in the hope of a greener environment. It would ask its delivery boys to use cycles to deliver packages in India's biggest cities over distances of 3-5 km. 
 
The programme was started in Mumbai last month and has now been expanded to Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi and Chennai. Under next phases, the programme would be extended to more cities. 
 "Being conscious of the environment we live in, reducing carbon footprint is the need of the hour," Samuel Thomas, transportation director at <keyword id="6354743" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Amazon-India">Amazon India</keyword> told ET. "We have taken this eco-friendly step by introducing bicycle deliveries, which also helps delivery associates with easier access in congested metro cities." 
 
The delivery team would ride geared bikes to carry packages of up to 7.5 kg per trip. 
 
However, people aware of compensation levels told ET that under this programme, a bicycle messenger could earn only about Rs 7,000 to Rs 8,500 a month, which is very less as compared to what motorcycle messengers earn, which counts up to Rs 14,000 a month.

Some extensions reportedly use “time delays” to avoid detection. “We discovered an interesting trick in a few of the extensions that would prevent malicious activity from being identified in automated analysis environments. They contained a time check before they would perform any malicious activity. This was done by checking if the current date is &gt; 15 days from the time of installation,” McAfee added. McAfee, in its post, has also advised users to be cautious while installing extensions on their devices and asked users to verify the permissions being requested by the extensions. The total percentage returns (as a percentage of forward dispatches) saw a decline of ~13% as compared to last year and it constitutes ~17% of the overall order volume as compared to ~20% in the previous year 2 ● E-commerce companies have invested extensively to reduce COD returns as they constitute large part overall returns. The return percentage on COD orders have reduced from 27% in 2019 to 20% in 2020 and for prepaid orders, the total return has decreased from 12% in 2019 to 11% in 2020. Although this darker side to performance-based marketing still exists, affiliate programs have moved to the mainstream, with major retailers and publishers now using them to drive sales of all sorts of products, from electronics to apparel. In a new report from BI Intelligence, we examine the changing face of affiliate marketing and take a close look at the key players. We also outline growth opportunities for affiliate marketing and how we see this industry developing.Here are some of the key takeaways:<ul><li>Mainstream media publishers are helping legitimize affiliate marketing. In an effort to balance editorial integrity and revenue needs, publishers are taking a more native approach to affiliate marketing by embedding product links within organic content. </li><li>Overall, publishers still generate the bulk of their revenue from advertising, but affiliate marketing is growing faster, per our sources. Approximately 15% of the digital media industry's revenue now comes from affiliate marketing.</li></ul>The investment that media companies are putting behind e-commerce drivers is good news for retailers, because publishers play an important role in the purchase funnel. <ul><li>Affiliate marketing now drives as many e-commerce orders in the US as email. Both channels currently account for 16% of US e-commerce orders, according to marketing firm Custora. This makes affiliate marketing one of the four largest sources of e-commerce orders, outperforming social commerce and display advertising.</li><li>Even consumers who already have demonstrated purchase intent commonly visit multiple nonretail websites before completing a purchase on an e-commerce website or in a store. WAL-MART'S VIDEO GAME STRATEGY: Starting March 26, Wal-Mart's U.S. customers will be able to trade in their used video games for store credit, which can be applied for anything from electronics to groceries. Importantly, this credit can be used both in Wal-Mart stores, and online, as Ina Steiner reports in eCommerce Bytes. Wal-Mart will refurbish the video games and sell them as certified pre-owned games later this year, offline and online. GRABBING GAMERS: Wal-Mart's move will help it draw customers from the large but relatively stagnant console gaming community, and perhaps allow Wal-Mart to sell gamers other high-price electronics products like smartphones. The move definitely threatens established video game retailers, both online and offline (read: GameStop). 
MOBILE GIFT CODES: Internet Retailer has a nice profile of National Gift Card Corp., the business-to-business supplier of gift cards that wants to become the Amazon of gift cards. The company is seeing especially fast growth in sales of electronic gift codes that are e-mailed to mobile phones. ALIBABA TO PICK STOCK EXCHANGE: Now that Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has announced its intention to pursue a U.S. initial public offering (IPO), the company needs to select a stock exchange to manage its listing. The IPO could raise as much as $15 billion, and it's obviously a coveted listing. The Wall Street Journal reports that the New York Stock Exchange is the early front-runner. TABLET TIPS: Yesterday we reported on explosive triple-digit growth in online retail transacted on tablets, and said that retailers needed to have great tablet sites and apps, or they would miss out on this boom. Usablenet, which powers websites for brands and retailers, has some recent survey research on what tablet shoppers want from tablet sites. According to Usablenet's survey of 600 U.S. and U.K. consumers: 
<ul>
<li>Fifty-three percent cited ease of purchase </li>
<li>Fifty-one percent said content should be consistent with what is found on the desktop site </li>
<li>Fifty percent cited ease of browsing</li>
</ul>

DOMINO'S MOBILE CAMPAIGN: Domino's Pizza is offering a limited-time 50% discount to customers who order via its mobile website or apps. The promotion coincides with college basketball's March Madness tournament. Domino's sold 1.7 million pizzas during the last three games of the tournament last year. The promotion provides some insight into how important mobile is to Domino's digital strategy. The pizza chain's mobile website and apps accounted for 40% of its revenues in 2013. ETSY ADVICE: Alexandra Ferguson, who sells pillows on Etsy, has published a blog post aimed mainly at small businesses who sell their craft products online. But her tips are applicable to any online brand or seller seeking to differentiate itself with a more curated and intimate approach. Ferguson says sellers should: 1) Be nimble, by taking design and product risks 2) Tell their stories at every opportunity 3) Offer personalized customer service to fight the anonymity that often marks online commerce. "So many products out in the market feel anonymous - they appear to be made by a machine in a far away place," she writes. Her advice is actually great for large online sellers, too. INTERNATIONAL E-COMMERCE ROUNDUP - 
Serbia: The e-commerce market in Serbia grew 39% last year to $98 billion, according to the National Bank of Serbia. Interestingly, Serbians conducted most of their online shopping on foreign websites. Out of 1.7 million e-commerce transactions carried out by Serbians, 1.45 million took place on foreign websites. Chile: E-commerce sales in Chile grew 23% in 2013 to $1.6 billion, according to preliminary findings from the Santiago Chamber of Commerce. (<a href="http://www.bnamericas.com/news/technology/chile-e-commerce-sales-up-23-in-2013">BN Americas</a>)
France: Fashion retailer H&amp;M announced the launch of its website in France, marking the company's 10th market for its e-commerce channel. H&amp;M also reported a 12% increase in sales during the first quarter of 2014. Management attributed the growth to the expansion of its bricks-and-mortar, and online stores.
