ICC T20 World Cup 2021: India to bat first as Pakistan wins toss and elects to field

A day after the Indian cricket board said that it will not be able to host the <keyword id="44040" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="T20-World-Cup">T20 World Cup</keyword>, the International Cricket Council (ICC) issued a statement confirming that the multi-nation tournament will be held in the United Arab Emirates (<keyword id="6358356" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="uae">UAE</keyword>) and <keyword id="62607" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="oman">Oman</keyword> from October 17 to November 14. "The <keyword id="6354756" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="bcci">BCCI</keyword> will remain the hosts of the event, which will now be held in Dubai International Stadium, the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the Sharjah Stadium, and the Oman Cricket Academy Ground, from 17 October to 14 November 2021," said a statement from ICC. The initial stage of the tournament will likely be held in Oman and a venue in UAE soon after the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 ends in the country. T20 World Cup shifted to UAE and Oman from Oct 17 to Nov 14, BCCI to remain as host

<keyword id="1445944" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Smaaash-Entertainment">Smaaash Entertainment</keyword>, a sports-based virtual entertainment company that cricket legend 
Sachin Tendulkar co-owns, is close to raising Rs 200 crore from private equity investors, which would be used for its further expansion. 
 "Right now we are in the midst of raising money for our international expansions and we should announce the closure in the next one month," <keyword id="1445940" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Smaaash">Smaaash</keyword> founder <keyword id="1817127" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shripal-Morakhia">Shripal Morakhia</keyword> told ET. He declined to disclose the names of the investors, but said that they are global PE funds. 
 
"These days, every investor is running after internet-based companies, so we really had to struggle and we are fortunate that people have decided to back us," he said. 
 
India has five gaming arcades operated by Smaaash, offering a variety of gaming options, which includes taking a strike against famous international cricketers, viz. former Australian spinner Shane Warne and former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar. 
 
The concept was launched by Smaaash in 2013, and it allows algorithm-based techniques to help ball-throwing machine pitch balls like the famous bowlers. 
 
When it comes to soccer, a player can collect, dribble and block goals based on simulations that were created with the help of Portuguese football icon Christiano Ronaldo. 
 
As of now, Smaaash has signed up 47 cricketers from various countries, and records their bowling and batting actions for about two weeks. "We have created virtual models of (London's) Lords Stadium and put the cricketers against that," he said. "It takes us 12 days to actually make people play. We study the player's bowling strengths and through an algorithm we create a library." 
 
Other than Sachin Tendulkar, the venture has seen Mauritius-based FW Sports Investment Fund investing in it. Smaaash now wants to open gaming centres in several overseas spots, including Mall of America in Minneapolis, which is one of the largest malls in the United States. Besides, shopping and entertainment destinations in Dubai and Jeddah are also in the pipeline. 
 
Domestically, Smaaash is coming up with centres in Ludhiana and Chandigarh, while adding two to the list in Delhi.

Sachin Tendulkar's Smaaash entertainment to raise Rs 200 crore, to expand in US, Dubai

In his upcoming visit to the Gulf Nations, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Narendra+Modi">PM Narendra Modi</a> will connect with the Indian diaspora in the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=UAE">UAE</a>. As reported by the Economic Times, PM will address nearly 40,000 expats to woo the energy-rich country's sovereign fund to invest in sectors like aviation, telecom, ports and road transport during his upcoming visit on August 16-17. 
 
During his maiden visit to the Gulf region as Indian PM, Modi will meet the strongest Indian community of 2.6-million—highest among all expat communities in the UAE—which apparently is an essential part of his pro-active diaspora outreach initiative. 
 As per a highly-placed associate of the Indian community in <keyword id="6354539" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dubai">Dubai</keyword>, the event has been planned at the Dubai Cricket Stadium on the eve of Aug 17. 
 An organizing committee has been formed by the <keyword id="2993361" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Community-Welfare-Committee">Indian Community Welfare Committee</keyword> (ICWC) to oversee the arrangements and lead preparations for the mega event. 
 According to BR Shetty, a member of the organizing committee, the reception is expected to attract at least 40,000 people of Indian origin. During his trip, Modi will visit both capital <keyword id="63248" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Abu-Dhabi">Abu Dhabi</keyword> and Dubai. 
 
The ICWC has also said that a website has been created to facilitate registrations of community members for the meeting. 
 The Gulf nation is the 10th biggest foreign investor in India—an estimated $3.01 billion in <keyword id="44528" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="FDI">FDI</keyword> flowed in as of January—and its third biggest trading partner after China and the US. During his visit, Modi will be looking to further diversify bilateral trade and investments. 
 
In 2014-15, bilateral trade between the two nations stood at close $60 billion. While India is an important export destination for UAE-manufactured goods, in 2014-15 the UAE became the second largest importer of Indian merchandise with sales topping $33 billion. The same year, the UAE was also the sixth largest import source of crude oil for India. 
 There is also a large Indian business community in the UAE which in 2013 made remittances of over $15 billion. Modi's trip could revive <keyword id="2993472" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India-Gulf-Cooperation-Council">India-Gulf Cooperation Council</keyword> free trade talks, the officials informed. The two sides would also like to intensify cooperation in counter-terrorism, maritime security, prisoner swap, cooperation in agriculture and food security. The UAE is expected to seek more protection for its investments in India. 
 Members of the Indian community in Dubai said they have been expecting a visit by an Indian prime minister for decades. Modi's predecessor, Manmohan Singh, was expected to reciprocate the visits of Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, here in 2007 and 2010. However, it was former president <keyword id="5979" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pratibha-Patil">Pratibha Patil</keyword> who paid a five-day state visit to the UAE in 2010.

"The Delhi part-owners are understood to have beaten a second bid from rival Indian Premier League franchise Lucknow Super Giants with an offer which values Hampshire at £120 million, although that price includes the club's debts of around £60 million," the Telegraph reported. Additionally, the GMR Group will also take control of the Utilita Bowl (cricket stadium at Hampshire), the Hilton hotel and a golf course at the same venue. Apart from being the co-owners of the Capitals, the GMR Group also has equal stakes in Dubai Capitals, the ILT20 side in the UAE, and Seattle Orcas, the Major League Cricket outfit in the USA. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the Hampshire club officials and the new owners are expected to make an official announcement soon about the deal. Besides the significant investment, the take over could also open up the possibility of Hampshire gaining access to some of Delhi Capitals' young players for domestic tournaments such as the Hundred. However, at present, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not permit active Indian cricketers to play in overseas tournaments. In another significant development, Yorkshire, another English county side, has reopened their talks with Rajasthan Royals for a possible takeover of the Headingley based club. However, this would require a consent from 6000 Yorkshire members through a ballot. While there was some initial reservation about how this changed format could impact advertising, as well as the overall experience, brands are pretty enthusiastic. “This IPL will be played behind closed doors and will not have any audience in the stadiums to begin with. Most people will watch the matches on TV from the comfort of their homes and on digital platforms. Hence, TV and digital will be our biggest bet. TV should help us with a wide reach amongst the audience and digital medium will help us in engaging with the customers by giving them an innovative and immersive experience,” shared Srivatsa. With no on-ground activations, will consumer engagement be challenging? Srivatsa didn’t seem to think so, considering the brand will still have a strong on-ground presence. “Apart from ensuring a strong on-ground presence during matches, we have also planned a lot of activities in the showrooms. Across India, Tata Motors showrooms will be decorated in the IPL theme. Our dealerships will be the place where customers can also soak in the IPL ambience. Additionally, we will also be organizing interesting contests for customers on social media platforms, which will be announced close to the start of IPL.”
