<keyword id="1617044" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Carl-Pistorius">Carl Pistorius</keyword>, 28, faces charges of culpable homicide after a 2008 road accident in which a 36-year-old woman motorcyclist was killed.
His appearance comes a day before his Paralympian hero brother makes a court challenge to the stringent bail conditions imposed on him after the Valentine's Day killing of his model girlfriend.
Among the conditions imposed on Pistorius, 26, last month was the surrender of his passport and mandatory drug and alcohol tests.
The athlete known as "Blade Runner" is also banned from returning to his upmarket gated home in Pretoria where he shot Reeva Steenkamp, claiming to have mistaken her for an intruder.
Pistorius, who became the first double amputee to compete against able-bodied athletes in last year's Olympic Games in London, is currently out on bail of one million rand ($108,000, 84,000 euros).
The trial of Carl Pistorius opened with arguments over an application by the public broadcaster SABC to be allowed to run live broadcast of the proceedings.
Magistrate Buks du Plessis dismissed the application.
"This trial pertains to Mr Carl Pistorius not Mr Oscar Pistorius. This is what we are dealing with here," Du Plessis said.
"These proceedings must not be used or have an influence on any later proceeding against this accused's brother," he added.
Lawyer Kenny Oldwage, who is part of Oscar Pistorius's murder trial defence team, is also representing the brother.
Oldwage successfully defended a driver in a high-profile accident in 2010 that killed former president Nelson Mandela's great-granddaughter Zenani. The driver was acquitted.

IPL 2024: Will rain play spoilsport in much-awaited blockbuster CSK vs RCB clash?

Saturday night will see a clash between the master and the apprentice. Cricketers can bat, bowl, field and run. But they can't hide from the emotional triggers that snag the attention of players and public alike. 
 
So, as much as the game's stars will roll their eyes and protest with a stifled yawn that they could not care less about statistics and milestones or where they are in the pecking orders that litter the media, all we need to do to know different is to ask ourselves whether we would care if those numbers were about us. We would. 
 
We want to know where we stand with our significant others, our bosses, our underlings, our elders and our juniors. Psychiatrists and psychologists would be out of business if we did not have a strange need to know what we think of ourselves. Moreover, we want to know these things truthfully, or as close to the truth as we can get. That is not often possible, as anyone who has been lied to by a lover will attest. 
 
But cricketers have it easy. In these days of instant everything, when they want to know how good they are they get their Google on. Or they consult the statswallahs, who are in almost every dressing room. Players do so discreetly because they would not be comfortable with the rest of us knowing how seriously they search for the answers to their questions. 
 But they tend to betray themselves. For instance, <keyword id="6355117" type="COUNTRY" weightage="100" keywordseo="South-Africa">South Africa</keyword>'s players spent a good deal of their tour to England in 2012 explaining away the significance of the fact that, if they won the series, they would be the top ranked Test team. I don't expect us to compete in a tournament if we're ranked No. 5 or 6. That means you are inconsistent. If you get to No. 1 it means there's a lot of consistency in your side." Du Plessis was too right for his team's own good. South Africa went to the WT20 in fourth place, and left after losing to India in the semi-finals.

After explaining why it would be important to give the bench-warmers a game - South Africa stuck by that and all three played - De Villiers said, "Other than that there are still rankings at stake so as a team I'd like to win even though we might make a few changes." 
 South Africa were fourth on the ODI ladder going into the series. India were second by a fraction of a point, but the way they are playing they could find a way to lose to themselves.

But he and Amla were both rested on Thursday, all the better to keep their rivalry going.

"Cricket South Africa (CSA) can confirm that approximately 50 COVID-19 PCR tests were performed on players, coaches, support and venue staff during the period of 10 to 13 July at various venues across the country, in preparation for the 3TeamCricket match that will be taking place on Saturday, 18 July 2020," CSA said in a statement. "Six positive results were returned but none among any of the participating players. They have been managed by the CSA Medical team according to the current Department of Health &amp; National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) guidelines." CSA did not say who were the six COVID-19 positive people from among those tested for the dreaded disease. The '3TCricket' competition on July 18 would mark the resumption of live cricket in South Africa following the coronavirus-forced break. If he scores big, Sri Lanka will garner enough wherewithal to challenge their opposition.

Their potent bowling makes them one of the biggest challenges that hosts would have faced of late, on what has usually been a placid track. At Galle, Steyn and Morkel took a total of 16 wickets with a deadly combination of pace, seam and reverse swing. They are likely to make the ball talk if and when the surface becomes abrasive. The only possible change in their ranks could be Wayne Parnell replacing Vernon Philander, who went wicketless in the first Test. With the bat, new captain Amla will have to impress upon as a leader, while opener Alviro Petersen is due a big score.

Steyn - world's best Test bowler and by some distance, is in rollicking form and by the looks of his showings this year (21 wickets in 4 games), he is on course to better his best figures in Sri Lanka, 9/99, which he took in Galle. Steyn's skill as a pacer is unparalleled and each batsmen will have to be at the top of his game to counter his penetrative style of attack. SSC will test him, but if any fast bowler one would want to bank upon to make an impact here, it would be Steyn.
