Suva (<keyword id="21037571" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Fiji" source="keywords">Fiji</keyword>): <keyword id="19939987" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="President-Droupadi-Murmu" source="keywords">President Droupadi Murmu</keyword> was on Tuesday conferred the <keyword id="22683350" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Companion-of-the-Order" source="keywords">Companion of the Order</keyword> of Fiji, the country's highest civilian award, as she hailed the ties between the two countries and said India stands ready to partner with Fiji to build a stronger, resilient, and more prosperous nation. "<keyword id="22683352" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="President-Ratu-Wiliame-Maivalili-Katonivere" source="Orion">President Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere</keyword> of Fiji conferred the Companion of the Order of Fiji upon President Droupadi <keyword id="19970795" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="murmu" source="keywords">Murmu</keyword>. This is the highest civilian award of Fiji," the President's Office said in a post on X. Murmu, who is on a two-day visit to Fiji, described the honour as "a reflection of the deep ties of friendship" between <keyword id="22683353" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India-and-Fiji" source="Orion">India and Fiji</keyword>. This is the first visit by an Indian head of state to the archipelago nation. <keyword id="14546690" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="President-Murmu" source="Orion">President Murmu</keyword> also addressed the Fijian Parliament. "As India emerges strongly on the global stage, we stand ready to partner with Fiji, according to your priorities, to build a stronger, resilient, and more prosperous nation. Let us come together to unlock the full potential in our partnership for the mutual benefit of people of both our beloved countries," she said while addressing the Parliament. She said that despite the vast difference in size, India and Fiji have much in common, including vibrant democracies. She recalled that almost 10 years ago, speaking in this same Hall, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had underlined some basic values that unite India and Fiji. "These include, 'our democracy, the diversity of our societies, our creed that all human beings are equal, and our commitment to the liberty, dignity and rights of every individual'. These shared values are eternal, and shall continue to guide us ahead," she said. "In my short time here, I can see that the rest of the world has so much to learn from Fiji. The gentle Fijian way of life, the deep-rooted respect for traditions and customs, an open and multicultural environment, makes Fiji so special in an increasingly conflict-ridden world. No wonder, Fiji is the place where the rest of the world comes to find its happiness," she said. She said she was confident that the newly announced projects, including the Super Specialty Cardiology Hospital to be established in Suva, would help to meet the priority needs of the people of Fiji and the wider Pacific region. Earlier, President Murmu was warmly received by President Katonivere at State House where the two leaders discussed ways to deepen the bilateral ties. "At State House, President Droupadi Murmu also witnessed the progress of the 'Solarisation of Heads of State Residences' project, an Indian initiative, which was inaugurated in February last year," her office said in a post on X. From Fiji, Murmu will travel to New Zealand and Timor-Leste. Her six-day three-nation visit aims to take India's Act East Policy forward, according to the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.

As per established tradition, the finance minister met the President at the Rashtrapati Bhavan before heading to Parliament. President Murmu offered 'dahi-chini' (curd-sugar), considered auspicious, to Sitharaman before she left for Parliament to present the Union Budget. The Union Cabinet met thereafter to clear the Budget. Before the actual presentation in Parliament, the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will approve the Budget for fiscal 2024-25 (April 2024 to March 2025). Expectations are running high as Sitharaman presents her seventh Budget in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. The Budget would give a glimpse of the Modi government's performance in the past 10 years while outlining the roadmap to make India a developed nation. Sitharaman continued with the tradition she set in 2019, carrying the budget speech in a 'bahi-khata', which she used after dropping the briefcase tradition. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman meets President ahead of Budget speech

Bengaluru, Chandrayaan-3 mission's Lander Module which touched down on the lunar surface, has rolled out the rover, <keyword id="439182" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="pragyan" source="Orion">Pragyan</keyword>, with ISRO saying "<keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> took a walk on the moon". On its official X handle, ISRO said the "rover ramped down." "Chandrayaan-3 ROVER: Made in India--Made for the Moon! The Ch-3 Rover ramped down from the lander and India took a walk on the moon!," it said. Official sources had earlier confirmed the development. President <keyword id="2848422" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="droupadi-murmu" source="Orion">Droupadi Murmu</keyword> congratulated the ISRO team for the successful deployment of Pragyan. "Its rolling out a few hours after the landing of <keyword id="1091" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vikram" source="Orion">Vikram</keyword> marked the success of yet another stage of Chandrayaan 3. I look forward with excitement, alongside my fellow citizens and scientists, to the information and analyses that Pragyan will acquire and enrich our understanding of the moon", she said. In precision landing, Chandrayaan 3's LM Vikram touched down the lunar surface at 6.04 pm on Wednesday, sending the nation into wild celebrations. The ISRO had earlier said the 26 kg six-wheeled rover was scheduled to descend from the lander's belly, onto the Moon's surface, using one of its side panels as a ramp. The lander (Vikram) and rover (Pragyan) -- with a total mass of 1,752 kg -- are designed to operate for one lunar daylight period (about 14 Earth days) to study the surroundings there. However, ISRO officials do not rule out the possibility of them coming to life for another lunar day. The rover will carry out in-situ chemical analysis of the lunar surface during the course of its mobility. Both the lander and the rover have scientific payloads to carry out experiments on the lunar surface. The rover would study the surface of the moon through its payloads APXS - Alpha Particle X-Ray Spectrometer - to derive the chemical composition and infer mineralogical composition to further enhance understanding of the lunar surface. Pragyan also has another payload--Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS) to determine the elemental composition of lunar soil and rocks around the lunar landing site. ISRO Chairman S Somnath had earlier said, "After powered descent (of lander) on to the landing site, there will be deployment of ramp and rover coming out. After this all the experiments will take place one after the other -- all of which have to be completed in just one day on the moon, which is 14 days."
