Madhya Pradesh Board cancels online classes for class IX and XII

These trials of the BBV152 coronavirus vaccine or Covaxin will be conducted on 380 participants, who will have to be screened for four days after they receive the vaccine shots. "This is to inform you that the subject proposal was examined in consultation with SEC (COVID-19) experts held through virtual meeting on 03-09-2020, wherein the committee recommended for the conduct of Phase II part of clinical trials with 380 participants subject to the condition that time for screening the participants should be revised to 4 days," reads the letter Joint Drugs Controller Dr S. Eswara Reddy wrote to Bharat Biotech International. Bharat Biotech began Phase I clinical trials of the vaccine July 15 at 12 centres across the country where healthy volunteers were administered two doses of vaccination shots with a gap of 14 days. These trials on 375 volunteers are still continuing. The subjects were monitored at the respective centres for two days after they were administered the vaccine shots. In the phase II clinical trials, this period has been revised to four days. Previously, Bharat Biotech had announced on June 29 that it had successfully developed Covaxin in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Institute of Virology (NIV). The SARS-CoV-2 strain was isolated in NIV, Pune and transferred to Bharat Biotech. The 'indigenous, inactivated vaccine candidate' has been developed and manufactured in Bharat Biotech's high containment facility located in Genome Valley, Hyderabad. The Prime Minister had in 2018 launched 'Poshan Abhiyaan'-- a robust scheme which has been playing an important role in eliminating malnutrition from the country. On this 'Poshan Maah 2020', Modi's government planned to focus on an intensive campaign across the country for the holistic nourishment of children with severe acute malnutrition, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in a statement. In this regard, an official, requesting anonymity, told IANS that the Education Ministry may come up with a revised menu for midday meals scheme, that will include milk as an integral component. All the state government's have been told to implement the new midday meal policy which includes milk. Earlier, the then HRD Ministry had revised its midday meal policy in 2016. In order to give better quality food to children in schools where midday meals are provided, the HRD has revised its norms, that include milk as a necessary supplement. WCD Minister <keyword id="6612" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Smriti-Irani">Smriti Irani</keyword> on Monday assured Vice-President <keyword id="8563926" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="m-venkaiah">M Venkaiah</keyword> Naidu that the central government would consider recommending to all the states to "include milk in the midday meal scheme". Irani's assurance came after Naidu earlier in the day suggested to her to add milk in breakfast or midday meals of children to improve nutritional level. The Vice President spoke with Irani on the 3rd Rashtriya Poshan Maah aimed at contributing towards a malnutrition-free India. An official in the Education Ministry told IANS that all students from Classes 1 to 8 in all government schools will be given 200 ml milk every day along with the midday meals. As per the official, this policy as is similar to the one issued in 2016 and then HRD Ministry direction to states in 2018 in which many loopholes were reported in its implementation. The states were earlier also directed to include milk and milk products in the midday meals so that these items could be procured from cooperative milk unions or federations. The Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries Department also took up the issue with the state Chief Secretaries on December 15, 2017, requesting them to consider supplying milk and milk products through their network under midday meals scheme of the Centre. Karnataka, <keyword id="6355554" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Madhya-Pradesh">Madhya Pradesh</keyword>, Haryana, Puducherry, and Gujarat have confirmed supply of milk through schools but some states with higher surplus stocks of milk powder like Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Punjab are yet to decide in this regard. Almost two decades have passed since the midday meal became a part of the daily routine in government schools across the country. The central government had received complaints earlier on about inclusion of milk in midday meals. As per government norms, every child should receive 150-200 ml milk. However, there have been complaints that one litre of milk was mixed in a bucketful of water to serve to more than 80 children in a school in rural Uttar Pradesh. Some videos have also gone viral on the social media regarding the said incident. Cars honking outside schools have now been replaced by clacking utensils, parents bickering in the background, and sabziwaalas (vegetable vendors) hawking outside the window. The teachers had to learn new things first For hundreds of teachers across the country, the lockdown didn’t just mean they were stuck inside their homes, it also meant they had to suddenly learn all about ‘Zoom classes’ and online learning. Teachers, who have been used to the blackboard and chalk all their lives, now had to create excel sheets and learn to ‘share screen’. From makeshift tables to adjusting the phone over a stack of books, so that the students can see the blackboard at home, teachers aren’t just teaching but also relearning the ‘how tos’. In fact, many started borrowing the selfie sticks and tripods of their kids and set them up in front of a blackboard at home in a typical Indian jugaad. The teacher’s dilemma – sleepy, hungry children on screen For Leena Mishra, a primary school teacher, the problems weren’t just about learning new skills. It was also to hold the naughty children’s attention. “Unlike the scenario in a physical classroom, students during virtual classes keep moving in and out as if playing a game,” she told Business Insider. “After struggling for a while, I was finally able to 'share my screen' with my students to show them the revision questions. But as soon as I did, the talented students left no chance of exhibiting their skills in painting on the screen. Starting from doremon to Mickey mouse, every cartoon was drawn in different colours on my screen,” she said. Meanwhile, as students can’t raise hands in class, now the ping of Zoom’s ‘raise hands’ feature is how Patra knows that students have a doubt. To make sure students are paying attention, she now takes up names randomly to answer questions. But then, every question asked by the teacher is now followed by a long queue of “yes ma’ams”. Enough for any teacher to wish she hadn’t asked the question in the first place. However, for Mishra, this experience has brought with it a big bag of jokes and many embarrassing moments. She has heard one of her students scream, “Mummy, give pasta!!”, while in another case, a grandfather wrapped in just a traditional lungi sat next to his grandson peeping into the screen with amazement. The horror – peeking parents A curious student is what a teacher wishes for but what they get in online education is nosy parents. Online learning meant the child was home and the parent whose visit was best reserved for a parent teachers meeting, is now right next to the child peering into the screen. When her eight-year old son is studying online, Mansi, a working professional, can hear another parent nudging the child, “Why don’t you give the answer to that question?” While Mansi is happy that her son’s school has streamlined homework, she has heard fellow parents complain about endless activities that the schools organise to keep the students engaged. These are stories from places with reasonably good access to fast internet and from people who have smartphones. For the rest, the experience could be far more traumatic, if at all, they have any access to online education. The pandemic has not just brought technology into schools. It has also changed what it means to be a teacher and a student. This is going to give a new direction to the social and economic aspect of 21st century India. It is shaping the resolve and strength of self-reliant India.</li><li>Education policy and education system is a main medium for fulfilling the nation's aspirations</li><li>Central and state governments, local bodies, all are attached to the responsibility of the education system. But it is also true that the government's interference in education policy should be minimal.</li><li>Millions of people of the country, living in the city and the village, people related to the education sector, gave their feedback for National Education Policy .</li><li>Today the world is discussing the transforming nature of the job. National Education Policy 2020 will equip youth with both knowledge &amp; skills, to prepare them for needs of the future.</li><li>We have discussed thoroughly bridging the gap that the education section has witnessed over the years.</li><li>Vocational exposure at a young age will help people prepare for better. It will also increase youth’s employability.</li><li>Students today can study according to their aptitude. It is not bound with any government rather it is attached with the aspirations of the country.</li><li>Our responsibility is to promote technological solutions at every university and college.</li><li>We will encourage healthy competition among universities using this policy and will also reward institutions.</li><li>I urge you to conduct as many virtual conferences about NEP before to aware people.</li></ul>Here are the highlights from President Kovind's speech: <ul><li>The National Education Policy has been formulated after an unprecedented and lengthy process of consultations. </li><li>I am told that in the formulation of this policy, more than 2,02,500 lakh gram panchayats, more than 2,500 local bodies and more than two lakh suggestions received from about 675 districts have been taken into consideration.</li><li>The National Education Policy will be able to take the people, especially the youth, in accordance with the needs and aspirations of the twenty-first century.</li><li>It is not only a policy document, but a reflection of the aspirations of the learners and citizens of India.</li><li>From the 1968 education policy to this education policy, it has been made clear in one voice that the central and state governments should jointly aim for 6% investment of GDP in the field of public education. This education policy of 2020 recommends reaching this goal quickly.</li><li>It has been emphasized in the new education policy that we all have to develop a modern education system based on Indian life-values. At the same time, we have to try that everyone should get education with high quality and a vibrant and equal knowledge society should be created.</li><li>Through education, we have to create such students who are filled with national pride as well as a sense of world welfare and can become a global citizen in the true sense.</li><li>Teachers will have a central role in the fundamental changes being made in the education system. It has been made clear in this education policy that the most promising people in the teaching profession should be selected and their livelihood, dignity and autonomy should be ensured.</li><li>In this context, there is a provision for starting educationally sound, multi-disciplinary and integrated teachers education programs. By the year 2030, only high-level institutions will remain active in this area.</li><li>The goal is to create a new and comprehensive curriculum of teachers education, based on this education policy, by 2021, to give a strong foundation to school education. Teacher's education is a part of higher education. Therefore, at the state level, all of you have to achieve the most important goals related to teachers' education.</li><li>In view of the need to accelerate the spread of vocational education in India, it has been decided that at least 50% of the students will be provided vocational education by the year 2025 in the school and higher education system.</li><li>According to the 12th Five-Year Plan assessment, less than 5% of the workforce in India received formal vocational education. This number was 52% in the United States, 75% in Germany and 96% in South Korea.</li><li>It has been made clear in this policy that vocational education will be considered as a part of mainstream education and such education will be given equal respect. This will lead to skill enhancement in children and youth as well as a sense of respect for the dignity of labor.</li><li>Promotion of Indian languages, arts and culture has been given special importance in the National Education Policy because they are important for India's identity as well as our economy.</li><li>Quality higher educational institutions are to be set up in Aspirational Districts and Special Educational Zones. This will be an important step in the interest of socially and economically disadvantaged groups.</li><li>The goal is to provide at least one large multi-disciplinary higher education institution in or near each district by 2030 for higher education in deprived areas. For this, many steps will have to be taken at the state level. </li><li>To give impetus to a large and vibrant economy like India, it is necessary to encourage 'knowledge-creation' and research. The central and state governments will have to increase the percentage of investment in research and innovation.</li><li>It has been observed that the level of investment in research and innovation is 2.8% of GDP in the US, 4.2% in South Korea and 4.3% in Israel while in India it is only 0.7%.</li><li>A National Research Foundation will be established to inspire quality academic research in all fields. To strengthen the culture of research, all universities and higher education institutions will have to work with the National Research Foundation. </li><li>The use and integration of technology will accelerate learning process improvement and yield better results. For this, the National Educational Technology Forum - NETF. Will be established. Ntef The state government agencies will also provide consultation.</li><li>The success of the National Education Policy will depend on the effective contribution of both the Center and the State. Education is the subject of the concurrent list under the Indian Constitution. National Education Policy will help shape Atmanirbhar Bharat: PM Modi

After retiring from Google in February 2016, <keyword id="6372293" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Amit-Singhal">Amit Singhal</keyword>, a former Google Fellow who is often regarded as the master of Google 'ranking algorithm', has decided to join the board of directors at fitness startup GOQii. Singhal was associated with Google for 15 years. 
 
In an interview to ET, Singhal stated that prior to joining the Vishal Gondal-founded firm, he had also invested in it as an angel investor in 2014. 
 
Now that he has joined the board of the start-up, he hopes to bring his expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning he brings from Google to boost GOQii, so that the service can be made more predictive and preventive. 
 
"The idea that is most intriguing about GOQii is having a human being working with artificial intelligence to motivate the user," he said. 
 
Born in Jhansi, the 47-year old also said, "It is not just some bit of learning... but there will be a lot of artificial intelligence going in the background. The interface to these things has not evolved to a point where a human being is fully comfortable with it, especially in an area like health and wellness... so a lot of science has to be worked upon. The world needs good health and it needs to be motivated about it." 
 
Singhal said that combining algorithmic-machine learning to human beings makes it a very powerful model. "I have always believed in the symphony between machines and human beings to achieve things that won't be achieved otherwise," said the PhD holder from Cornell University. 
 
Taking of the start-up, GOQii has got investments from the venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates (NEA), Chinese mobile internet company Cheetah Mobile and DSG Consumer Partners; along with having many other Silicon Valley stalwarts, like WhatsApp’s Neeraj Arora, Flextronics’s Mike McNamara, Seagate’s Steve Luczo, Basis’s Bharat Vasan and Dr Shriram Nene as angel investors.
