The acquisition has been done for a cash consideration of ₹98.3 crore, excluding working capital and taxes. All the four brands have a combined market size of ₹1800 crore and accounted for as much as ₹33 crore in revenues in FY22. “Overall, the brands acquired have significant growth potential to strengthen our already established presence in the pediatric category, which is synergistic to our current portfolio, speciality depth and geographical presence,” said <keyword id="1217" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nikhil-chopra" source="Orion">Nikhil Chopra</keyword>, CEO at <keyword id="5340080" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="JB-Pharma" source="Orion">JB Pharma</keyword>. Z&amp;D produces zinc supplements used for boosting immunity. Pedicloryl oral solution is used in children in hospitals for idiopathic pain management. Pecef caters to the bacterial infections as well as respiratory tract infections in children. Ezinapi cream is used as an emollient for diaper rashes in infants. JB Pharma will take over the manufacturing, marketing and distribution of these brands in India. “It will also help us significantly leverage our on-the-ground field force strength and widen our offerings in the pediatric basket - comprising gut health and respiratory infection products for healthcare professionals across the country,” said Chopra. The integration and transition of the brands are expected to be completed in the next two weeks. “All the four brands have a lion’s share in their respective spaces. We will continue to focus on evaluating opportunities for strengthening our India domestic business,” Chopra added. JB Pharma acquires four pediatric brands of Dr Reddy’s Labs for ₹98.3 crore

Sun Pharma, Dr Reddy’s Lab, Divi’s Lab and other pharma stocks rally on regulator’s nod to make anti-COVID pill

<ul><li>Dr Reddy’s Laboratories reported a 1.5% decline in consolidated net profit to ₹570 crore in June quarter.</li><li>The company’s business in North America grew 1% year-on-year while its sales fell 1% on a quarterly basis.</li><li>Shares of one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the country were down 10% on July 27.</li></ul>Shares of Dr Reddy’s Laboratories hit a 10% lower circuit after the company posted a 1.5% decline in year-on-year net profit for the June quarter. The pharmaceutical company’s profit for June quarter was almost flat at ₹570 crore compared to ₹579 crore in the same period last year. Its North American business grew by merely 1% on a yearly basis and fell 1% on a quarterly basis on account of price erosion in some products and despite a launch of 6 new products. Also, the company’s total expense rose by nearly 25% to ₹4,513 crore in June quarter 2021 on the back of rising expenses in impairment of non-current assets, cost of materials consumed, purchase of stock in trade and employee benefit expense. On the other hand, the company’s revenue grew by 11% year-on-year to ₹4,919 crore. It saw a strong 69% year-on-year growth in its India business led by increase in sale of COVID-19 drugs due to the severe second wave witnessed in India. “We believe that the weaker set of numbers reported by Dr.Reddy’s Laboratories are due to sales degrowth in the active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) business and muted sales growth in the USA business. India business and Europe business have reported sales growth of 69% and 12% respectively. At 2:48 p.m., July 27, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories shares were trading 10% lower at ₹4,880 and BSE Healthcare index was also down 3%. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories shares drop more than 10% on fall in profit

However, he believes that “stringent measures by the administration” can control the current wave of COVID-19 infections and the sell-off, in the meantime, may pull down shares to bargain prices. The day started on a positive note as the Federal Reserve seemed less worried about inflation in the US. A rise in inflation in the US would force the American central bank to increase interest rates, making it more attractive for global investors to pull money out of emerging markets like India and invest it in the US. This was the overwhelming fear in the run up to the Fed meet and it had come undone at the end of it. As the Fed Chairperson Jerome Powell downplayed the inflation risk in the US, the dollar weakened against all major currencies. A weaker dollar hurts Indian exporters. That would explain the sharp fall in marquee stocks like Infosys and HCL Tech (where the earnings expectations are still strong) as well as drug exporters like Dr Reddy’s Labs. But the confidence among the bulls wasn’t strong enough to overcome the fear of a resurgent pandemic. ITC was the top gainer among large-cap stocks today followed by Bajaj Auto, Hindalco and Bharti Airtel. The sell-off in the mid and small-cap segments was equally brutal as the large-cap indices Sensex and Nifty50. While the market seems to be fearing another crash in economic activity, the most recent data does not seem to indicate that. The Nomura India Business Resumption Index (NIBRI) picked up to 95.7 for the week ending 14 March. That’s a 4.3 percentage point short of the pre-pandemic normal. Essentially, the report dated March 15 showed that Indians are going about their business as usual, not bothered by the latest wave of infections. And that economic activity is nearly as good as it was before the pandemic. But as far as the share market goes, the bears seem to be in charge of the narrative. The grey market premium of the Indian labware company surged to ₹230 from ₹200 earlier. “Covid has turned out to be a boon for the companies in the healthcare space as worldwide governments have started allocating more funds and people in general have become more conscious towards the healthcare benefits. We expect the firm to grow faster than current CAGR given the laboratory instrument industry is growing at 20%,” said analysts at Nirmal Bang. <div type="image" title="tarsons product" height="900" width="1200" msid="87730870" hostid="261"></div> Besides, the fact that the company cut down its debt by half in two years has impressed analysts. The company total borrowings came down to ₹33 crore in FY21 from ₹64 crore in FY19. Further, the company said it will utilise ₹78 crore from the IPO proceeds to repay/prepayment debt. “The margins of the company have grown significantly on the back of declining debt. The company aims to be debt free post the IPO and is planning for CAPEX (capital expenditure) which will further increase the revenues,” said analysts at Swastika. However, analysts at Choice Broking believe that the sharp spike in growth last year may be a one-off event triggered by the pandemic and the company may find it difficult to maintain the same pace in the future. “There is a respectable import market for the company to capture and also a huge export opportunity arising from the “China plus one” strategy, in case the globe adopts this strategy in the post-Covid period. Thus considering the future growth outlook and the demanded premium valuation, we assign a “Subscribe with Caution” rating for the issue,” the report said. On August 13, Zydus Cadila launched its own version of Remdesivir called Remda in the Indian market. Remdac is priced at ₹2,800 per 100 mg vial, making it the cheapest version of the drug so far. Zydus Cadila said that the drug will be made available across India through the group's strong distribution chain reaching out to government and private hospitals treating COVID-19 patients. In June this year, Zydus had entered into a non-exclusive agreement with Gilead Sciences Inc to manufacture and sell Remdesivir, the investigational drug, which has been issued an emergency use authorisation by the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) to treat patients suffering from severe symptoms of COVID-19. Previously, pharmaceutical giants Cipla and Hetero introduced generic versions Remdesivir — an antiviral drug first used to treat Ebola — to fight coronavirus. The drug was launched in India in July. India’s Health Ministry approved use of the drug to treat mild cases of coronavirus. However, the drug is not recommended to treat those who have several renal impairment, pregnant and lactating women, children below 12 years age. Hetero said it will make its version of Remdesivir — Covifor — available between ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 for a vial. Whereas, Cipla's Cipremi is available for ₹4000 for per 100 mg vial. Cipla’s Cipremi is available for only those patients who are on oxygen support. Apart from Cipla and Hetero Labs, Jubilant Lifesciences and Mylan are also working to manufacture the drug in India. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Biocon firm Syngene and has also received voluntary permission from Gilead Sciences to produce Remdesivir in India. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories gains 4% Dr.Reddy’s Laboratories was the third-largest gainer in the Nifty pharma pack, trading almost 4% higher. The company has announced a settlement of litigation with a unit of Bristol Myers Squibb related to patents for Revlimid (lenalidomide) capsules, used to treat various kinds of cancer. “We are pleased with the settlement agreement, and look forward to bringing a generic version of lenalidomide to market soon subject to regulatory approval for the benefit of patients,” Dr Reddy’s Laboratories North America Generics CEO Marc Kikuchi said. At a time when there is an acute shortage of <keyword id="79555" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vaccines">vaccines</keyword>, geopolitics cannot be used to deny vast populations a proven vaccine needed to save lives and livelihoods. As many as five Indian pharmaceutical firms including Dr Reddy's Labs have also signed agreements with Russia to roll out Sputnik V, which will go a long way in bridging the current deficit in vaccines worldwide and speeding up the inoculation drive against the relentless surge in <keyword id="8785701" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="COVID-19-cases">Covid-19 cases</keyword>. India as the largest vaccine maker in the world has already supplied 76 countries with shots of the two vaccines that it is currently producing-- AstraZeneca-Oxford and Bharat Bitoech's homegrown <keyword id="9485939" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="covaxin">Covaxin</keyword>. The tie-up with Russia will help to step up this effort and meet the huge demand. The German government said on Friday that it would be open to using the Russian-made Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine once it had been approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Last week, German Chancellor Angela Merkel herself directly referred to Sputnik jabs and said <keyword id="87" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Germany">Germany</keyword> "should use any vaccine that has been approved" by the EMA. A spokesman for Germany's health ministry echoed the same sentiment on Friday, saying that "all vaccines are welcome if they have been approved by the EMA". The EMA this month launched a rolling review of Sputnik V, in a key step required for its approval as the first non-Western coronavirus vaccine to be used across the 27-nation bloc. "This is a good vaccine that will probably also be approved in the EU at some point. The Russian researchers are very experienced with vaccines. Sputnik V is cleverly built," Thomas Mertens, head of Germany's vaccine commission Stiko, told the Rheinische Post on Tuesday. However, Sputnik has faced criticism in Western countries, and French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Drian has accused both Russia and China on Friday of using their vaccines to gain influence abroad. "In terms of how it is managed, it (the Sputnik V vaccine) is more a means of propaganda and aggressive diplomacy than a means of solidarity and health aid," Le Drian told France Info radio. Moscow hit back with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov saying : "We absolutely disagree with the fact that Russia and China are using the coronavirus pandemic and vaccines as tools of influence." Russia registered Sputnik V in August, ahead of large-scale clinical trials, which had raised concerns among many experts over the fast-track process. However, later reviews have shown the vaccine to be both safe and effective in preventing Covid-19. Over 3.5 million people in Russia have already received both doses of the Sputnik V vaccine. Leading British medical journal The Lancet announced on Tuesday that the Sputnik jab was 91.6 per cent effective against symptomatic Covid-19 cases, which laid to rest much of the international scepticism. The green signal from Germany also comes at a time when Europe has fallen behind in its inoculation drive and there is a major controversy raging on the issue with EU blaming Britain for the shortfall in supplies of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine. The 27-nation bloc has accused Britain of cornering most of the shots in what is being termed as "vaccine nationalism." The EU has also recently temporarily suspended the use of the vaccine saying that it was not safe and resumed only after the EMA gave the go-ahead for the shots. The move was also attributed to political reasons in the wake of the strained ties between the EU and Britain.
