<ul><li>Dr Reddy’s Laboratories reported a 1.5% decline in consolidated net profit to ₹570 crore in June quarter.</li><li>The company’s business in North America grew 1% year-on-year while its sales fell 1% on a quarterly basis.</li><li>Shares of one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the country were down 10% on July 27.</li></ul>Shares of Dr Reddy’s Laboratories hit a 10% lower circuit after the company posted a 1.5% decline in year-on-year net profit for the June quarter. The pharmaceutical company’s profit for June quarter was almost flat at ₹570 crore compared to ₹579 crore in the same period last year. Its North American business grew by merely 1% on a yearly basis and fell 1% on a quarterly basis on account of price erosion in some products and despite a launch of 6 new products. Also, the company’s total expense rose by nearly 25% to ₹4,513 crore in June quarter 2021 on the back of rising expenses in impairment of non-current assets, cost of materials consumed, purchase of stock in trade and employee benefit expense. On the other hand, the company’s revenue grew by 11% year-on-year to ₹4,919 crore. It saw a strong 69% year-on-year growth in its India business led by increase in sale of COVID-19 drugs due to the severe second wave witnessed in India. “We believe that the weaker set of numbers reported by Dr.Reddy’s Laboratories are due to sales degrowth in the active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) business and muted sales growth in the USA business. India business and Europe business have reported sales growth of 69% and 12% respectively. Companies' margins are down significantly and were below the market expectation,” said Yash Gupta, equity research associate at Angel Broking. <div type="image" title="dr reddys chart" height="900" width="1200" msid="84788758" hostid="261"></div> Further, the company has increased its expenses under research and development to focus on a healthy pipeline of new products pertaining to COVID-19 treatment. "The financial performance of the quarter has been driven by healthy sales growth. I am confident about improving our margins in the upcoming quarters, which will be led by the scale up of recent launches, new product launches and productivity, said the company’s co-chairman and managing director, G V Prasad. At 2:48 p.m., July 27, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories shares were trading 10% lower at ₹4,880 and BSE Healthcare index was also down 3%. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories shares drop more than 10% on fall in profit

However, he believes that “stringent measures by the administration” can control the current wave of COVID-19 infections and the sell-off, in the meantime, may pull down shares to bargain prices. The day started on a positive note as the Federal Reserve seemed less worried about inflation in the US. A rise in inflation in the US would force the American central bank to increase interest rates, making it more attractive for global investors to pull money out of emerging markets like India and invest it in the US. This was the overwhelming fear in the run up to the Fed meet and it had come undone at the end of it. As the Fed Chairperson Jerome Powell downplayed the inflation risk in the US, the dollar weakened against all major currencies. A weaker dollar hurts Indian exporters. That would explain the sharp fall in marquee stocks like Infosys and HCL Tech (where the earnings expectations are still strong) as well as drug exporters like Dr Reddy’s Labs. But the confidence among the bulls wasn’t strong enough to overcome the fear of a resurgent pandemic. ITC was the top gainer among large-cap stocks today followed by Bajaj Auto, Hindalco and Bharti Airtel. The sell-off in the mid and small-cap segments was equally brutal as the large-cap indices Sensex and Nifty50. While the market seems to be fearing another crash in economic activity, the most recent data does not seem to indicate that. The Nomura India Business Resumption Index (NIBRI) picked up to 95.7 for the week ending 14 March. That’s a 4.3 percentage point short of the pre-pandemic normal. Essentially, the report dated March 15 showed that Indians are going about their business as usual, not bothered by the latest wave of infections. And that economic activity is nearly as good as it was before the pandemic. But as far as the share market goes, the bears seem to be in charge of the narrative. On August 13, Zydus Cadila launched its own version of Remdesivir called Remda in the Indian market. Remdac is priced at ₹2,800 per 100 mg vial, making it the cheapest version of the drug so far. Zydus Cadila said that the drug will be made available across India through the group's strong distribution chain reaching out to government and private hospitals treating COVID-19 patients. In June this year, Zydus had entered into a non-exclusive agreement with Gilead Sciences Inc to manufacture and sell Remdesivir, the investigational drug, which has been issued an emergency use authorisation by the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) to treat patients suffering from severe symptoms of COVID-19. Previously, pharmaceutical giants Cipla and Hetero introduced generic versions Remdesivir — an antiviral drug first used to treat Ebola — to fight coronavirus. The drug was launched in India in July. India’s Health Ministry approved use of the drug to treat mild cases of coronavirus. However, the drug is not recommended to treat those who have several renal impairment, pregnant and lactating women, children below 12 years age. Hetero said it will make its version of Remdesivir — Covifor — available between ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 for a vial. Whereas, Cipla's Cipremi is available for ₹4000 for per 100 mg vial. Cipla’s Cipremi is available for only those patients who are on oxygen support. Apart from Cipla and Hetero Labs, Jubilant Lifesciences and Mylan are also working to manufacture the drug in India. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Biocon firm Syngene and has also received voluntary permission from Gilead Sciences to produce Remdesivir in India. New Delhi, Jan 27 () Dr Reddy's Laboratories on Monday reported a consolidated loss of Rs 569.7 crore for the quarter ended December 2019.
 The company had posted a profit of Rs 485.2 crore in the year-ago period, Dr Reddy's Laboratories said in a fiing to BSE.
 The consolidated revenues of the company in the October-December period increased to Rs 4,383.8 crore, over Rs 3,850 crore in the year-ago period, the filing said.
 "The current quarter performance has been good across all our businesses and we achieved strong earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) margins," the company's Co-Chairman and MD GV Prasad said in a statement.
 The profits were impacted due to trigger-based impairment charge taken on a few products including gNuvaring, he said, adding that the company continues to focus on execution and has made significant progress on quality systems and operational efficiencies.
 The shares of Dr Reddy's Laboratories were trading at Rs 3,088.40 a piece on BSE, up 1.99 per cent from the previous close. SID SID ANS

She is now an independent director at four companies, and the latest to add her is IT major Tech Mahindra after Dr Reddy’s Labs, Tata Global Beverages (which operates Starbucks chain in India) and Ambuja Cement. Private Equity firm KKR appointed her as an adviser for their alternate investments. This is very good progress for someone who claims to have a<a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/opinion/lunch-with-bs-shikha-sharma-110021600095_1.html"> ‘permanent inability to sell herself’</a>. This trait kept her away from landing a job on the very first day of recruitment at IIM Ahmedabad. The Benefit of Friends Yet, Sharma has many high-profile friends in the system. She had worked with Kalpana Morparia, the CEO of J P Morgan at ICICI, who is a part of Nomination and Remuneration Committee (NRC) at pharma major Dr Reddy’s Labs. The company also has former Tata Power Managing Director Prasad Menon who was a part of Axis Bank board of directors until recently. She is also part of the board of Tata Global Beverages, which operates Starbucks chain in India. An independent banking analyst Hemindra wrote a report questioning the corporate governance practices of companies which have employed her. “The irony of publicly owned and listed blue-chip companies eagerly seeking Sharma for the prestigious position of independent director on their boards is that she had a poor track record and an unceremonious exit as chief executive officer of Axis Bank,” said a report by banking analyst Hemindra, who wrote a report on her. However, companies have defended their decision to have Sharma on board. Tech Mahindra’s statement on June 14 said, “She has rich experience in banking, insurance and an excellent track record and led the bank on a transformative journey from being primarily a corporate lender to a bank with a strong retail deposit franchise and a balanced lending book.” Hazari disagrees with Tech Mahindra’s take. Though her stint at ICICI-- her first job since she was recruited from Indian Institute of Management (IIM) -- had many successes including building the India’s largest private sector bank’s insurance business, her leadership at Axis Bank had a lot left to desire. E-mails sent to Tech Mahindra, Dr Reddy’s Labs and Tata Global Beverages did not elicit any response, while Sharma did not respond to a request for a call. The Cover-up Sharma’s plan for growth at Axis Bank’ was to increase large-sized corporate lending, that included a bunch of loans to infrastructure companies. Like all bad plans, it worked until it didn’t. The unrelenting chase for growth landed them in a bad soup with a large chunk <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/banking/finance/banking/boxing-on-or-boxed-in-indian-banks-are-splintering-gadfly/articleshow/59788487.cms">of toxic loans</a>. What angered investors and the regulator alike is how the bank tried to sweep it under the carpet. So much so, the banking regulator Reserve Bank of India (RBI) <a href="https://www.businesstoday.in/current/economy-politics/rbi-penalises-axis-bank-indian-overseas-bank-non-compliance/story/271996.html">had fined them</a>-- even though a measly ₹30 million-- for fudging accounts. The regulator’s version of their non-performing loans is 156% higher than what was admitted by the bank in the year 2016-17. Right after demonetization in 2016, the Enforcement Directorate unearthed a scam where<a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/demonetisation-case-ed-files-first-chargesheet-involving-axis-bank-staff/articleshow/56959891.cms"> Axis Bank staff</a> was passing on unaccounted money into the system. According to Hazari, these are due to poor operational risk controls and other lapses which were prevalent in the bank. He also said that the bank <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/banking/finance/banking/ex-axis-bank-executive-alleges-wrongful-termination/articleshow/49283008.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">persecuted whistleblowers with draconian clauses</a>, which can terminate an employee without giving any reason. “Incorporating such harsh measures effectively silences any honest banker from complaining against any regulatory lapses which could disrupt the growth of business,” Hazari said. It is within any company’s legal right to appoint anyone as an independent director. What experts like Hazari are questioning is the level of trust such boards can evoke when they appoint those whom regulators have recently shunned. New Delhi, Jan 3 () Drug major Dr Reddy's Laboratories on Friday said it has received shareholders nod for proposed amalgamation of Dr Reddy's Holdings Ltd into the company.
 The resolution for the scheme was approved by 99.98 per cent votes of the total 13.10 crore votes casted by equity shareholders of the company, it said in a regulatory filing.
 21,026 votes, which accounted for the rest 0.02 per cent, were posted against the resolution, it added.
 The voting was conducted as per the directions of the Hyderabad Bench of the National Company Law Tribunal on November 22, 2019.
 The meeting of equity shareholders was convened on January 2, 2020.
 The board of Dr Reddy's Laboratories had on July 29, 2019, approved the amalgamation of Dr Reddy's Holdings Ltd, an entity held by the promoter group which holds 24.88 per cent equity shares of Dr Reddy's Laboratories, into the company.
 The scheme would lead to simplification of the shareholding structure and reduction of shareholding tiers, the company had said. "The Promoter Group cumulatively will continue to hold the same number of shares in the Company, pre and post the amalgamation," it had said.
 Shares of Dr Reddy's Laboratories on Friday settled at Rs 2,888.90 on the BSE, up 0.87 per cent from its previous close. KRH AKT

New Delhi, Mar 20 () Dr Reddy's Laboratories on Friday said it has launched Pyrimethamine tablets, used for treating parasitic disease toxoplasmosis, in the US market.The company's product is the only generic version of Daraprim tablet which has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA)."Our team's relentless pursuit of this difficult-to-procure reference drug and its active pharmaceutical ingredients, in addition to recent actions from the USFDA, will benefit patients by providing a more affordable alternative to the brand," Dr Reddy's Labs North America Generics CEO Marc Kikuchi said in a statement. The company is offering this product at a substantial discount compared with the current brand price, he added. Pyrimethamine is indicated for the treatment of toxoplasmosis when used conjointly with a sulfonamide, since synergism exists with this combination. Toxoplasmosis is a disease caused by toxoplasma gondii parasite. The infection may be caused by eating undercooked, contaminated meat or drinking contaminated water. Besides, the parasite may be ingested through contact with infected cat feces.As per IQVIA Health, the Daraprim brand had sales of around USD 10 million for the 12 months ended January 2020.Dr Reddy's shares were trading 10.28 per cent up at Rs 2,892.40 apiece on the BSE.
