The box could be filled with up to 45 pounds of <keyword id="19705" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Products">products</keyword> or up to four cubic feet of everyday stuff, like laundry detergent, toilet paper or snacks. The company has now merged Pantry service with its main website, reports The Verge. Amazon Pantry was launched in 2014. The aim was to make it easier to stock up on everyday products that would otherwise be bulky or expensive to ship. In 2018, Prime Pantry changed its subscription service where extra $4.99 a month on Prime membership gave users unlimited free shipping on any orders over $40 from the Prime Pantry service. Before that, Prime Pantry required a per-order flat fee of $5.99 even for Prime members. Amazon now owns <keyword id="321410" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Whole-Foods">Whole Foods</keyword>, an entire chain of grocery stores, and has started to roll out its own Amazon Fresh-branded stores. The Amazon Fresh store will continue to offer online shopping services in addition to in-person shopping. Amazon said it will offer free same-day delivery for Prime members, and there are also in-store pickup options for online orders. Amazon discontinues Prime Pantry as it focuses on grocery delivery

New Delhi, May 26 () Billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries has launched an online extension of its grocery business under JioMart brand across 200 cities. The service is being offered in all leading metros (Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata), and even in smaller towns like Mysuru, Bhatinda and Dehradun. JioMart is now delivering in more than 200 cities, Damodar Mall, the chief executive officer of Reliance Retail's grocery business said in a tweet. JioMart last month started a pilot project serving users in three neighbourhoods surrounding Mumbai. Credit Suisse said, "The national roll-out provides customers with a useful alternative to existing players (BigBasket, Grofers) as online grocery orders have spiked, given the fewer store visits". D-Mart, it said, mentioned that April revenues are down 45 per cent year-on-year as nearly 50 per cent of the stores are shut or have very restricted hours of operation. Therefore, online orders should help offset some of the lower sales in physical stores. CLSA said as of now, the website will only use Reliance's offline grocery supply chain as its backbone and deliver to homes. "Success at its ongoing beta tests in Navi Mumbai, which also encompasses mom and pop stores and uses WhatsApp as a platform to order, will be later extended to pan-India," it said. Users can order from a full suite of grocery items by visiting the JioMart website. Products include fruits and vegetables, dairy and baked goods, staples, snacks and branded foods, beverages, and personal and home care. Reliance's private labels also featured prominently. "While it does not commit on a delivery timeline when ordering (due to the lockdown), it aims to deliver orders within a two-day timeframe," CLSA said. Eventually, like other online retailers, it is possible that Reliance integrates its entire retail offerings, including fashion, lifestyle and consumer electronics, onto one super e-commerce platform and mobile app. "This, along with a pan-India extension of partnerships with mom &amp; pop stores after a successful beta test and ramp-up of this new commerce venture is crucial in Reliance's grand plan of converting Jio's 400 million-plus subscribers into customers for its eCommerce and other offerings," CLSA said. Recent partnerships with Facebook-owned WhatsApp for JioMart will only help in increasing monetisation opportunities by increasing the convenience and reach of consumers. The grocery platform was previously piloting deliveries only in select areas of Mumbai. "JioMart has seen a 4x rise in online orders from a low base. With its pan India presence JioMart now directly competes with Amazon and Flipkart in eCommerce," Bernstein said in a separate report. Grocery is 70 per cent of the Indian retail market, 90 per cent-plus unorganised, driven by Kirana stores/small retailers. "Organised penetration is less than 10 per cent while online penetration for grocery is less than 1 per cent," it said. Facebook has made a bigger push into e-commerce with the launch of Shops. "The idea is to bring millions of small businesses online. This will allow free online storefronts for small businesses and retailers and expand Facebook presence across Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger," Bernstein said. "Facebook shops will be complimentary to WhatsApp business use to sign and onboard Kirana stores for JioMart (grocery app of Reliance Retail)." Credit Suisse said JioMart currently fulfills the order by own entity and kiranas likely to be on-boarded subsequently. "The platform lists all the major grocery categories like fruits and vegetables, staples, dairy and bakery, snacks, beverages, personal care, home care and baby care. "In terms of pricing, Reliance has extended the Smart promise of 'minimum 5 per cent off on MRP' to all products on JioMart. The discount is higher on its private label brands, and is competitive to branded products," it said. Reliance Retail had been piloting the initiative in Navi Mumbai, Thane and Kalyan among select population group. It was serving these customers through both Kirana stores and their own warehouses. It also set up Smart Points, which were acting as delivery points in neighbourhood. However, orders post the national launch are being serviced by Reliance Smart and Fresh stores, Sahakari Bhandar stores (owned by Reliance retail), and is not yet fully leveraging kirana network (as on-boarding of Kirana stores is still ongoing), Credit Suisse said. "Just prior to the national launch, Reliance Retail tapped the WhatsApp customer base in the three pilot regions to source orders. In our view, it was just a test phase of integration. The orders were available only for pick-up from nearby Kirana store, whose details were sent to the customer via WhatsApp. However, the national launch, so far, does not have integration with WhatsApp," it said. All this is resulting in a launch pad for kiranas post-Covid-19, sources said. The platform offers enhanced reach in newer towns and cities with many more essentials, faster delivery and better pricing. With JioMart, some small/semi-urban towns are experiencing an exclusive "essential dedicated e-commerce" service for the first time. There are several towns now where JioMart is the only essentials delivery platform. No slots are available on BigBasket and delivery time is 5-7 days on an average for most essentials on Amazon &amp; Flipkart. In terms of choice of essentials, most platforms are offering a select range of packaged products and have limited or no fruits and vegetables (F&amp;V) options. There are no F&amp;V options on Flipkart. Amazon Pantry has limited F&amp;V options in big towns and minimal choice (onions &amp; potatoes) in the small towns. Often essentials are priced very high by third party sellers, listed on marketplace, for delivery in small towns. Availability of listed products is much higher than on other platforms. In terms of the overall reach, JioMart offers delivery in nearly 200 locations across the country. On the other hand, Amazon Pantry is live in several cities and towns but current availability is limited to around 100 cities currently. In some cities, third party sellers on Amazon may be offering select essentials/grocery. Bigbasket is available in nearly 30 cities. Flipkart is offering its <keyword id="7088894" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="flipkart-supermart">Flipkart Supermart</keyword> service in 26 select cities through a tie up with Vishal Mega Mart stores. Jiomart is offering better pricing and offers a minimum 5 per cent less than MRP on packaged products. There is a highly competitive pricing on JioMart and the most commonly ordered essentials are priced higher on other platforms as compared to JioMart, especially in small towns. This can be seen through Monday evening's pricing for Mumbai where Red Label tea 1 kg packet is priced at Rs 423 in DMart, Rs 450 in Bigbasket, Rs 410 in Amazon and Rs 408 in Jiomart. Similary, Saffola Gold 1 litre is priced at Rs 135 in DMart, Rs 149 in Bigbasket, Rs 137 in Amazon and Rs 132 in Jiomart. Parle G 800 gm is available for Rs 65 on DMart, Rs 70 on Bigbasket, Rs 68 on Amazon and Rs 63 on Jiomart. JioMart now delivers in nearly 200 locations across India

Hit by unprecedented online orders amid lockdowns and social distancing, Amazon has announced to put customers on a waiting list, and will invite new customers to shop every week. The ecommerce giant said while it has increased order capacity by more than 60 per cent due to COVID-19, it still expects the combination of restricted capacity due to social distancing and customer demand will continue to make finding available delivery windows challenging for customers. "To help, in the coming weeks, we will launch a new feature that will allow customers to secure time to shop. This feature will give delivery customers a virtual ï¿½place in line' and will allow us to distribute the delivery windows on a first come, first served basis. Simultaneously, we will continue to add capacity as swiftly as possible," Stephenie Landry, Vice President of grocery at Amazon, said in a statement on Sunday. The company said it will also adjust store hours for select Whole Foods Market locations to focus exclusively on fulfilling online grocery orders during this time. "We are temporarily asking new Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market delivery and pickup customers to sign up for an invitation to use online grocery delivery and pickup. We're increasing capacity each week and will invite new customers to shop every week," explained Landry. Amazon is currently focusing on high-priority items to ensure the fastest delivery of household staples, medical supplies, and other high demand products coming into our fulfillment centers. Landry said that in the last several weeks, the company has expanded Whole Foods Market grocery pickup from roughly 80 stores to more than 150. "We are releasing delivery windows throughout the day and have made it easier for customers to see when the next delivery window is available by including it on the homepages of Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market," she added. Last week, the company extended the 'Amazon Relief Fund' to its delivery partners -- associates of the Delivery Service Partner Programme, Amazon Flex programme and trucking partners providing middle-mile logistics support -- in India in view of the coronavirus crisis. Amazon said that this fund can be utilised by qualifying individuals who have been quarantined or diagnosed with COVID-19. The Amazon Relief Fund has been set up globally with an initial contribution of $25 million initial contribution to support employees, qualified independent contractors, and employees of qualified vendors who face financial hardships from qualifying events. Amazon to put customers on a waiting list due to increased demand

<ul><li>YouGov's latest report reveals that <keyword id="6357120" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="paytm">Paytm</keyword> and Big Basket are the most used apps for ordering essentials during the COVID-19 <keyword id="91743" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="lockdown">lockdown</keyword></li><li>Although people have engaged with delivery apps during this period, only half are satisfied with the online ordering experience.</li></ul>YouGov’s latest survey reveals that despite the lockdown and strict norms around social distancing, the majority of urban Indians (52%) are stepping out and buying essentials from local retailers and hypermarkets. 39% are getting it delivered locally by neighbourhood vendors. The survey was run among 1000 respondents from 14th- 17th April. Most people have used delivery apps to order essential supplies during the lockdown period and Paytm is the most used app for this purpose (39%), followed by Big Basket (21%) and Big Bazaar (18%). Although slightly late but Swiggy and Zomato have entered the fray, and one in six people admitted to using these apps for the delivery of necessary items (16% and 15%, respectively). Amazon Pantry (16%), Reliance Fresh (15%), Grofers (14%) and Dmart (14%) were some other popular channels of delivery. Comparatively, Flipkart Supermart (10%), Domino’s Pizza (7%), Milk Basket (5%), Nature’s Basket (4%) and Dunzo (3%) were less popular for ordering daily supplies. While people have indulged with delivery apps at some point during the lockdown, currently only one in five (20%) Indians are ordering essentials online through these apps. Residents in North India were more likely to say this- at 27%. Similarly, a higher number of tier-1 and tier-2 city residents are likely to order online through delivery apps as compared to tier-3 residents. Among the different age groups, people in their thirties (28%) are more likely than the rest to shop everything online. Even though Paytm emerged as the most used delivery app for essentials during the lockdown, when it specifically comes to those who are currently only ordering online, Big Basket takes the top spot (at 44%), followed by Paytm (34%) and Grofers (33%). The e-grocer is especially popular among respondents from tier I cities, with 58% saying they shopped from Big Basket during the lockdown. Paytm on the other hand, is more popular in tier-2 and 3 cities. The high volume of people stepping out to buy necessities or getting them delivered locally could be due to problems faced with online grocery shopping. Unavailability of goods is the top concern among buyers ordering essentials online (40%), followed by lack of variety as well as unusually long delays in deliveries (32% each). Some respondents experienced cancellation of their orders (22%), received partial deliveries (17%) and faced issues with order policies (16%). Few witnessed payment issues (11%) while few others received low quality products (10%). However, a quarter seem pleased with the experience and claim to have had no problems with their delivery. At an overall level, half the respondents are satisfied or very satisfied with the experience of ordering essentials online. One in six (16%), however, are either unsatisfied or very unsatisfied while a third (33%) are unsure of their experience. Unsurprisingly, satisfaction is higher among those who currently order online as compared to those who either step out or order essentials locally through neighbourhood vendors and this presents an opportunity for e-grocers to win these consumers by offering better service and experience. Speaking about this Deepa Bhatia, General Manager, YouGov India, said, “While the COVID-19 crisis has adversely impacted most businesses, it has also opened opportunities for some e-commerce players, especially those catering to the daily needs of people. Along with serving new customers, it is imperative to satisfy and retain the existing ones. In such an environment, it is important for brands to win consumers’ trust by understanding their needs and concerns, and then targeting them with the appropriate communication and marketing strategies.” Data collected online by YouGov Omnibus among 1000 respondents in India between 14th - 17th April 2020 using YouGov’s panel of over 6 million people worldwide.
