Over the years, with people ditching cash for their Diwali shopping. A recent survey conducted by ACI Worldwide, a leading global provider of real-time electronic payment and banking solutions, showed that during the festive season, digital payments are the preferred payment option for 42 percent of consumers in India, leading card payments (29%) and cash (27%). The responsible Diwali Today, Diwali also means pollution is going to hit the danger mark. So the environmentally conscious have stopped bursting crackers and are also spreading the message to reduce the use of crackers. In Delhi, the hotbed of air pollution, the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has requested people to ditch the crackers and get together at Connaught Place for a light and laser show along with food. Along with pollution, crackers are also dangerous for animals. The loud sound from crackers leaves dogs scared, while the burning crackers also put stray animals in danger. "My friends have a ritual to organise a cards party every Diwali and we spend hours playing games, drinking and chatting. Abir works in financial services in Hong Kong and came to Delhi for his wedding, just before Diwali. With Bani still figuring her citizenship situation amid Abir's work commitments, the newly-weds' first Diwali will be on WhatsApp. "It is our first Diwali together and we haven't stopped discussing our virtual plans. Abir created a WhatsApp group in which we post pictures, videos and send voice notes to each other so that we feel connected and together on our first Diwali as a couple," they informed. For 400 million users in India, WhatsApp video calls are the easiest medium to connect to their loved ones in the festive season especially in the social distancing days. Family group video calls are also growing as WhatsApp has doubled the number of participants in a video or voice call from four to eight people at a time on its platform. People on average are spending over 15 billion minutes talking each day on WhatsApp calls. Captain Pankaj Bahukhandi, 57, serves as a Master Mariner for a shipping company. Being away for the latter part of the year, he will not be able to spend Diwali with his family in Dehradun. "Like every other time, we will speak on WhatsApp calls and share pictures, videos and voice notes on our family WhatsApp group so that I feel emotionally connected with my family amid the festivities," he said. "One app that we are the most comfortable using is WhatsApp. It is so easy to make calls and send pictures. We also put WhatsApp status for our grandkids on their birthdays," added Rajdeep Tewari and Sandhya Tewari, grandparents to four children, who are working professionals in different countries in the world.

According to reports, few of Paytm Mall employees worked with third party vendors to avail cashback offers. "After Diwali, what my team saw was that there were some small sellers who were getting a large percentage of the cashbacks and we as a team asked our auditors to do a deeper audit," Paytm founder <keyword id="198636" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vijay-Shekhar-Sharma">Vijay Shekhar Sharma</keyword> told <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/newsbuzz/paytm-probe-reveals-at-least-rs-10-cr-fraud-vijay-shekhar-sharma/articleshow/69327442.cms">reporters</a> at a press conference in Mumbai. The event was held to launch Paytm’s cashback card driven by Citibank. Paytm Mall has fired about 10 employees and delisted over 100 vendors from its platform, according to one <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/paytm-probe-reveals-at-least-rs-10-cr-fraud-vijay-shekhar-sharma/articleshow/69327250.cms">report.</a> Paytm Mall, however, clarified later that fraud was in the range of ₹5-10 crores. The company had released an official statement regarding its partnership with E&amp;Y, which will help build Paytm Mall a secure network for its users. In the Indian e-commerce industry, while cashback has been a boon to bring on board a huge number of users, it has also proved to be a bane for companies that are struggling with losses due to these offers. In the same breath, Sharma insisted that the cashback model remains sustainable. Paytm Mall had aggressively grown to bring on board many vendors in its fight against the likes of Flipkart and Amazon. However, it had run into trouble with huge losses and there were reports about Paytm Mall shutting down.
