The film is about a brother-sister duo and received mixed reviews. The film, as per reports, collected around Rs 4 crore on its opening day. However, according to actress <keyword id="20316578" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Divya-Khosla-Kumar" source="keywords">Divya Khosla Kumar</keyword>, the collection figures are inflated. Kumar has alleged in a social media post that the <keyword id="20010018" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vasan-Bala" source="keywords">Vasan Bala</keyword> directorial is witnessing empty theatres and the collection figures reported are wrong. Khosla took to Instagram to call out Bhatt, claiming that she purchased tickets for her own film and falsely reported higher earnings to the public. Sharing a picture of an empty cinema hall on her Instagram Stories, Khosla wrote, “Went to Citi Mall PVR for Jigra show. Theatre was totally empty… all theatres going empty everywhere.” She further alleged, “#Aliabhatt me sach mein bahut #Jigra hai.. khud hi tickets karide aur fake collections announce kar diye. Wonder why paid media is silent. #weshdnotfooltheaudience #truthoverlies #HappyDussehra.” According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Jigra earned Rs 4.55 crore on its opening day, which fell short of expectations. While urban centres contributed significantly to the earnings, the film struggled to attract audiences from mass-market regions. Despite the lukewarm start, Adarsh noted that the Dussehra holiday might help boost the film’s performance over the weekend. “Jigra opens to lower-than-expected numbers, with a significant contribution from urban centres dominating Day 1. The response from mass pockets is ordinary/lukewarm… The Dussehra holiday should help offset the initial shortfall,” Adarsh wrote. The film also faced stiff competition at the box office, clashing with Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, which stars Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri. Rao’s film outperformed Jigra, collecting Rs 5.71 crore on its opening day. Jigra marks one of Alia Bhatt’s lowest opening weekends since her 2014 film Highway, despite her star power. The film revolves around a sister’s perilous journey to save her brother, with a recreated version of the classic song “Phoolon Ka Taaro Ka” featured in the teaser. Produced by Dharma Productions and Viacom18 Studios, the film is co-written by Debashish Irengbam and Vasan Bala. However, the unexpected controversy and box office numbers have put a damper on what was anticipated to be one of Bhatt’s major releases of the year. According to the actor, who has been credited for character roles in many Hindi films, he was asked to be available in December to shoot for the movie but never received a follow-up call. The actor, in a post on X, said he didn't want to stir up controversy but thought it was time to speak up. "Back in 2023, I was approached by their casting team to audition for a role. I sent my tapes twice over the span of four months, playing along with their timeline. By the end of November, they told me I'd be shooting in December - fantastic, right? Except they never gave me any firm shoot dates. "Still, they booked me for the entire month of December, expecting that I'd be ready to shoot for them at any moment. As someone based in Imphal, Manipur, I made it very clear from the start that travel arrangements would need to be made, but that didn't seem to matter," Thaangjam recalled. The actor said he was kept in the dark throughout the month except for a brief message that they were waiting for a "revert". "Meanwhile, I'd lost out on other projects because I was sitting around, waiting for them to give me the go-ahead. But, of course, that never came," the actor said. As an actor from Northeast, Thaangjam said the experience felt "particularly dismissive, almost discriminatory". "My time was wasted and I missed out on other opportunities just because they expected I'd be available at a moment's notice," he wrote. "Jigra" has faced a number of controversies, including the negativity surrounding Bhatt's casting in the movie and actor Divya Khosla Kumar's comments that the film, a jailbreak drama, resembled the plot line of her last film "Savi".

New Delhi, May 2 () Internet companies like Urban Company, MakeMyTrip, Dunzo, HealthifyMe and Zomato are changing their social media handles and app icons to promote wearing face masks as a hygiene practice amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Apna Mask initiative -- an effort by StartUpVsCOVID (a startup community with over 1,000 members) -- is promoting homemade masks and aims to drive behavioural change to ensure that people wear masks and stay protected as they step out of their homes. The #ApnaDeshApnaMask campaign was kicked off by startup industry stalwarts like Rajan Anandan of Sequoia India, Paytm's Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Alok Mittal (Indifi), Vishal Gondal (GoQii) and others. They were later joined by celebrities like Vidya Balan, Dia Mirza, Juhi Chawla, Divya Khosla Kumar, Juhi Parmar, Deepshika Deshmukh, Sonu Sood, Shama Sikander, Preetika Rao and others. Within a span of two weeks, the initiative has garnered 100 million outreach across digital platforms, including WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. The team working on the campaign also reached out to various organisations to support the initiative, especially as parts of the country get ready to come out of the lockdown which has been extended till May 17. "Urban Company, MakemyTrip, Dunzo, HealthifyMe, Zomato, Redbus, Ixigo, MoneyTap, MyUpchaar, Bounce, RazorPay, Medanta, WittyFeed, LBB, Porter, Meesho, Daily Hunt, 1mg, Paytm Games have changed their social media handles while some are changing the app icons as well," a statement said. These brands are also inviting more companies to join the initiative. "Given the immense response we have received, we will have more brands join #ApnaMask in this critical initiative. We believe some of these steps will be helpful in building habit changing behaviour towards wearing homemade masks," Poonam Kaul, co-founder of ApnaMask, said. In a separate statement, Crowdera -- an online fundraising platform -- said it is offering its premium syndicated fundraising technology solutions for free to companies and NGOs working to help the COVID-19 affected individuals, families and health workers. "Crowdera will be extending its support through offering its products and services worth almost USD 150,000 (Rs 1 crore) free to organisations aiding the affected...The solution will help corporations and NGOs to quickly syndicate with their own employees, influencers, other foundations, or charity partners to raise funds 10X more than through a regular crowdfunding campaign," it said.
