She estimated that it can cost about $350 a month for lower-cost versions of semaglutide mixed with other ingredients that come from compounding pharmacies. The monthly out-of-pocket costs for Wegovy and Ozempic are $1,349 and $892, respectively."But in the past six months it has taken off so much, even patients on my existing weight-loss-medications program want to switch to the injectable," she said. <h2>Doctors can prescribe medications for off-label uses</h2>In TikTok videos, Harris and many other medical professionals have discussed prescribing Ozempic for weight loss — a function that qualifies as off-label use, since Ozempic isn't FDA approved for that use. The FDA bars companies and influencers they're partnering with from promoting their drugs for off-label uses. But doctors don't have those restrictions — as long as they aren't getting paid by the drugmaker.For its part, a Novo Nordisk representative, Allison Schneider, told Insider that the company "does not promote, suggest, or encourage off-label use of our medicines.""We are committed to the highest ethical standards and compliance with applicable laws in every aspect of our relationship with healthcare professionals," said Schneider.The practitioners Insider spoke to also said they did not have any financial relationships with Novo Nordisk or other drugmakers. If they did, the FDA and Federal Trade Commission would require certain disclosures. The FTC requires influencers, including doctors, to disclose on posts if they have financial arrangements with drugmakers whose products they're promoting.Clinicians promoting certain drugs online can create the appearance of a conflict of interest, even if no paid partnership exists, said Kelly Michelson, a professor of bioethics and medical humanities at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine."As clinicians, we're sort of trained that avoiding conflicts of interest is part of what it means to be a professional clinician," she said. "I would certainly worry that advertising or advocating for a particular therapy would start to cross that boundary of professionalism."Prado-Wright said she posts about weight-loss drugs on TikTok because patients are curious about them."We do social media for fun, because it's trending, because patients ask about it," she said. "I don't necessarily share everything I know medically on every post, but when a patient comes for the in-person visit, they get the full spiel.""I honestly think it's a little overhyped," she said of the weight-loss drugs. Alexander Wang posts Instagram statement denying accusations of sexual assault

The voices of those long underrepresented - specifically people of color - are narratives, expression, and emotions which have long been missing not just on the fashion runway, but behind the scenes as well.The show featured the tie-dye street style looks of John Lenahan, also known as <a href="https://www.lennyvuitton.com/">Lenny Vuitton</a>, a graffiti artist interested in dismantling and recreating common iconography and making it his own. The clothes appeared to be light weight; the fabrics nearly see through; the shade of white almost spectral. As Manchanda told Business Insider before the show, it was meant to represent the the "ghosts of the past.""In India, technically, this idea of modesty is actually an impact of colonialism," Manchanda said. "The garments [in my collection] are almost like an X-ray - so it's almost like a ghost of the past, compressing it in time. She used velvet and silk to mold flowers, to show that what is beautiful can also be ugly. "I used traditional couture techniques [for my clothes] ... to recreate that into the modern and to make hybrid couture," Chang continued. "Black means death, but I want to redefine black as [survival] and rebirth. I was thinking 'what if pink can also be brutal?' I'm playing a lot with words, vocabulary and meaning." <img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5e446b9e4b661b1cef39b7d3-1018/nyfw%20fit2.jpg" alt="NYFW FIT2" style="color: #000000;" />Environmentalism was also a major theme among the designers. <a href="https://www.instagram.com/jingqiyang_/">Jingqi Gina Yang</a>, for example, showcased an entire collection made from waste pulled from the ocean.Yang told Business Insider she hopes her collection will help educate people about the importance of environmental protection, echoing sentiments shared by Manchanda who, in speaking about sustainability, said her theme of looking toward the past can help inspire people to make more eco-conscious decisions in the future."Sustainability doesn't have to be this technological breakthrough," Manchanda said. "It could just be learning from the past and most importantly, [learning] how consumption culture has changed." <h2>But FIT's show was not without controversy</h2>FIT designer <a href="https://www.instagram.com/junkai.huang/">Junkai Huang</a> debuted a collection that included "monkey ears" and giant red, prosthetic lips. <a href="https://www.instagram.com/diet_prada/">Instagram fashion critic Diet Prada shared photos of the collection</a> on Instagram, calling out the designer and the school for showing the collection in this manner. In addition, Amy Lefevre, a model who walked in the show and is black, <a href="https://nypost.com/2020/02/15/black-model-refuses-to-wear-racist-monkey-ears-and-lips-at-fashion-show/">told the New York Post</a> that she felt "pressured" to walk the runway in the collection and was told that "it was fine to feel uncomfortable for only 45 seconds" while modeling the look. Ultimately, according to the Post, Lefevre walked the runway, but without wearing the controversial accessories.<a href="https://nypost.com/2020/02/15/black-model-refuses-to-wear-racist-monkey-ears-and-lips-at-fashion-show/">The Post reported that</a> numerous people behind the scenes also spoke up about the accessories and how they resembled racist caricatures. It featured celebrity DJs like Steve Aoki and David Guetta, and attracted 400,000 people, the government's official General Entertainment Authority (GEA) division said <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/a-400-000-strong-crowd-showed-up-to-marvel-at-the-record-breaking-soundstorm-that-was-mdl-beast-festival-rocking-riyadh-over-three-unforgettable-days-1028781064">in a press release</a>.Business Insider has learned that multiple ad agencies were hired to market the event, whose attendees <a href="https://www.insider.com/influencers-criticized-for-saudi-arabian-music-festival-trips-2019-12">drew criticism because of the country's history of human rights abuse</a>. Among them were Momentum Worldwide, which is part of US-based ad holding company IPG, according to two sources with direct knowledge of the situation.<h2>Actors and influencers were accused of taking 'blood money' to attend festival</h2>Influencers, actors, models, and publishers - including Armie Hammer, Alessandra Ambrosio, Ryan Phillippe, and Glamour UK - were paid to promote MDL Beast using hashtags like <a href="https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/mdlbeastbrandambassador/">#MDLBeastbrandambassadors</a>. According to <a href="https://mdlbeast.com/">the festival's official website</a>, sponsors included Pepsi, Lay's, and Cadillac.The event and attendees were <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2019/12/23/instagram-influencers-partied-saudi-arabian-music-festival-no-one-mentioned-human-rights/">criticized</a> by journalists, human rights experts, and influencers like Diet Prada, a fashion and culture commentary Instagram account, and GQ columnist Phillip Picardi. Critics pointed to the country's human rights abuses including the imprisonment of government critics such as Raif Badawi and the 2018 assassination of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi - a killing <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/16/us/politics/cia-saudi-crown-prince-khashoggi.html">that the CIA concluded</a> was likely ordered by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman. Model Emily Ratajkowski <a href="https://twitter.com/emrata/status/1208527314469801984?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1208527314469801984&amp;ref_url=about%3Asrcdoc">tweeted</a> that she went public with her decision to turn down an invitation to the festival to highlight such "injustices." Washington Post opinion editor Karen Attiah, who worked closely with Khashoggi, accused the influencers and DJs of accepting "<a href="https://twitter.com/KarenAttiah/status/1209192243652808704">blood money.</a>"A spokesperson for Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority did not respond to multiple requests for comment on this story.<h2>IPG's Momentum Worldwide was subcontracted by a firm that it said worked with 'private companies' based in Saudi Arabia</h2>Two sources close to IPG who are known to Business Insider but spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed that the London office of Momentum Worldwide, a division of IPG's McCann Worldgroup network that focuses on events, was subcontracted by another agency called LemonX to handle public relations and on-the-ground support for the festival.Spokespeople for IPG and Momentum Worldwide have not responded to requests for comment.In an IPG press release obtained by Business Insider, a Momentum employee pitched images and videos from MDL Beast to media outlets the day after the festival ended.Christopher Perry, co-founder of London agency The Studio of Art and Commerce and LemonX, which was <a href="https://suite.endole.co.uk/insight/company/12187601-lemonx-ltd">incorporated in September</a>, about three months before the event, confirmed that LemonX was hired by private companies in Saudi Arabia to market MDL Beast. "LemonX worked as a production and marketing subcontractor to support what was the first-ever music festival in Saudi Arabia," he said.Asked multiple times if he subcontracted work for the festival to IPG agencies, Perry didn't address the question.Perry said neither of his agencies has ever had the Saudi Arabian government or the GEA as a client, stating, "Both companies work internationally including work for private companies in KSA [Kingdom of Saudi Arabia] where the purpose is to deliver change."Perry would not name those companies or elaborate on the work in question. He has also been the subject of controversy. Recent reports <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/un-calls-investigation-saudi-crown-prince-mbs-hacking-jeff-bezos-2020-1">claimed that he hacked the phone</a> of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who also owns The Washington Post, in 2018, though the paper's editorial board <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/we-dont-know-whether-mbs-hacked-jeff-bezoss-phone-we-do-know-spyware-is-everywhere/2020/01/26/6e516008-3ee4-11ea-b90d-5652806c3b3a_story.html">now says that is not entirely clear</a>.The General Entertainment Authority, established in 2016, has played a key role in that change. In <a href="https://www.gea.gov.sa/en/2019/01/new-entertainment-strategy-en/">the January 2019 announcement</a> laying out its strategy for the forthcoming year, GEA chairman Turki bin Abdulmohsen Al Sheikh emphasized the cultural and financial importance of hosting major entertainment and sporting events in the country.Later in 2019, the kingdom launched a multi-million dollar ad campaign intended to promote electronic visas to would-be tourists and <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/03/style/saudi-arabia-travel-influencers.html">invited Instagram influencers</a> to document their paid visits to the country. The efforts attracted backlash, with some reports about <a href="https://skift.com/2019/09/25/saudi-arabias-high-tourism-hopes-begin-with-a-botched-campaign-rollout/">problems with the via program's rollout</a> and some critics mentioning the <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/International/saudi-arabia-executed-record-number-prisoners-2019-report/story?id=68250502">large number of executions</a> carried out by the government last year.The IPG press release on the MDL Beast festival quoted bin Abdulmohsen Al Sheikh and "one elated festival guest" who was quoted as saying, "We are truly witnessing a big change in this country - we know it won't happen overnight, but MDL Beast has played a huge part in the next chapter of this country."IPG is not the only holding company that has worked for organizations associated with the Saudi Arabian government.Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the kingdom hired PR firm Qorvis Communications to improve its image.
