This week it was the turn of unconventional movies <keyword id="73533" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="roar">Roar</keyword> and <keyword id="1527505" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Super-Nani">Super Nani</keyword> trying their luck out at the Indian box office. 
 Directed by Indra Kumar, Super Nani has <keyword id="182" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rekha">Rekha</keyword> in the lead role. The movie raked in Rs 1.60 crore on the opening on Friday and went on to add Rs 1.55 crore on Saturday and Rs 1.7 crore on Sunday. For a movie of this budget, Super Nani has managed to get some good business thanks to the positive word of mouth publicity and it might be able to end up in the green. 
 
Roar is a thriller movie, which managed an average opening of Rs 1.5 crore on Friday and earned Rs 1.42 crore and 1.8 crore on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Even Roar seems to have hit the right chord with its target audience and is doing decent business. 
 On the other hand, <keyword id="43845" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Happy-New-Year">Happy New Year</keyword> continues its spectacular run at the box office, collecting Rs 8.6 crores on the second Sunday or 10th day of the film’s release. By the looks of it, Happy New Year is gunning to get its name etched in the Rs 300-crore club, but will it be able to enter the Rs 500-crore club or break the earning collection record set by Dhoom 3 is something that we will have to wait and see.

They, along with his earlier super hits <keyword id="21125" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="chak-de" source="Orion">Chak De</keyword> and <keyword id="227940" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="chennai-express" source="Orion">Chennai Express</keyword>, feature in the list of movies that have the most franchise potential, says a report by Ormax. The top most popular pick of the audience, however, is Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots ( 85% of the audience voted for it). The movie released in 2009 was a superhit starring Aamir Khan, Madhavan and Sharman Joshi and loosely based on Chetan Bhagat’s Five Point Someone. The survey conducted amongst 3,000 Hindi-film goers analyzed films released between January 1990 to September 2023. The report which picked the top 100 movies, is based on audience equity. Ormax believes that franchises have a long way to go in the Hindi film industry. “Franchise films have been a dominant force driving the growth and stability for Hollywood over the past two decades. The contribution of franchise films to the Hindi theatrical domestic box office has grown from a mere 17% in 2019 to 45% in 2023,” said Sanket Kulkarni, head of business development (theatrical), Ormax Media. Hollywood has made popular movie franchises be it Justice League, Marvel, Star Wars and more. It also has long-running franchises like Fast and the Furious as well as Scream. The Indian film industry has recently kickstarted the trend with the highly successful Bahubali series as well as KGF. The audience also picked popular franchises of Gadar, which recently had a second superhit sequel this year. Then there was also Dhoom where three movies have been made starring John Abraham, Hrithik Roshan and Aamir Khan as protagonists. They also picked Sunil Shetty, Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal starrer Hera Pheri, even as its sequel bombed at the box office. Surprisingly, none of Rohit Shetty’s action films with a cop universe like Singham and Simmba feature in the list. But Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam, which is an adaptation of a Malayalam movie of the same name, made the cut. The other movie that made the cut is Vicky Kaushal’s Uri: The Surgical Strike. “As the theatrical landscape increasingly leans toward event-driven films, choosing the right film to expand or initiate the franchise can go a long way in creating a powerful theatrical product,” said Kulkarni. Audiences want more sequels: SRK’s Pathaan, Jawan and Chak De hold the most franchise potential

<keyword id="6355923" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aamir-Khan">Aamir Khan</keyword>’s much awaited film <keyword id="6396827" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="PK">pk</keyword>, directed by <keyword id="6354633" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rajkumar-Hirani">Rajkumar Hirani</keyword>, is being looked forward to by everyone. Given the kind of work that both Khan and Hirani have done in their career, this project looks promising enough. 
 
The makers have not left any stone unturned in leveraging this curiosity, as evident from the zero knowledge that we seem to have about the character that Aamir is playing in the movie. Nobody knows if he is playing the role of an alien, a drunkard, or just a homeless man. 
 
The teaser of the movie was released yesterday, after 4 motion posters of the movie, one of which included the much talked still of sans-clothes Aamir, carrying only a transistor to save his modesty. 
 Coming to the teaser of the movie, which was released yesterday and has already crossed a million views on YouTube, the teaser carries the background voice of <keyword id="6357860" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Anushka-Sharma">Anushka Sharma</keyword>, who goes by the name of Jagat Janani in the movie. The teaser shows Aamir, sporting green contact lenses, and playing around with a childlike innocence on his face. <keyword id="1493204" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="sushant-singh-rajpoot">Sushant Singh Rajpoot</keyword>, Boman Irani, <keyword id="34155" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="saurabh-shukla">Saurabh Shukla</keyword>, and <keyword id="7645" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sanjay-Dutt">Sanjay Dutt</keyword> can also be seen in the teaser. 
 
From the looks of it, the movie promises entertainment and a social message, much like other projects that Hirani has done in the past. The acting looks convincing and there is not an iota of doubt that this movie will be a super hit. 
 
Seeing that Aamir’s last release, Dhoom 3, soared over Rs 530 crores, and is the only <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> movie to have done that as of yet, we can easily predict a collection of Rs 300 crores for this movie.
