Union Minister <keyword id="197418" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dharmendra-Pradhan">Dharmendra Pradhan</keyword> has promised a "transparent regulatory regime" for greater ease in doing business with India. He said so while attending a road show in Houston, Texas to promote the auction of 46 discovered oil and gas fields. 
 These fields, which were discovered by <keyword id="769942" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Oil-And-Natural-Gas-Corporation-Ltd">Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd</keyword> (<keyword id="6354737" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="ONGC">ONGC</keyword>) and <keyword id="111992" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Oil-India-Ltd">Oil India LTD</keyword> (OIL), are predicted to be put on production through speedy efforts. 
 The road show was attended by several global oil-related companies, including Magna Energy, BP, IHS Energy, Texas Oil &amp; Gas Technology, Nabors, McDermott, Reliance Exploration and Production DMCC, <keyword id="50041" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="KPMG">KPMG</keyword>, Halliburton, Joshi Technologies International, Vega Energy, and Schlumberger. For all details of these oil and gas fields to be made available to the interested parties, the road show had extensive and detailed presentations and one-on-one meetings with the companies. 
 Some companies, like BG, <keyword id="128650" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cairn-Energy">Cairn Energy</keyword>, ONGC, and RIL also shared their happy experiences when they worked in the Indian exploration and production (E&amp;P) sector. 
 
The minister, in this moment of glory, promised a "transparent regulatory regime" and greater ease of doing business, adding that "We recognise that the need of the hour is to increase the domestic energy production by unlocking India's hydrocarbon potential." 
 
The current round of bidding round is also being held under a revised set of guidelines which are industry friendly; the Discovered Small Fields Policy is also acting as the regulatory framework. 
 
The round is seeing potential investors being offered 67 fields in 46 contract areas, across 9 sedimentary basins, through International Competitive Bidding in the oil and gas producing basins. 
 
36 of these fields are located in offshore areas, while the rest 31 are in on land basins. These fields, together, have an estimated 625 Million barrels of Oil and Oil Equivalent Gas in-place volumes, while being spread over 1500 square kilometers. 
 The show turned out to be a hit, with the hall full of attendees, including heads of major energy companies, think tanks, analysts, Indian Americans with interest, oil lobbyist, diplomats and various technologists. Pradhan took this opportunity to assure all possible support from his Ministry and the <keyword id="6377129" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Government-Of-India">Government of India</keyword> so that investors’ endeavours can reach good results.

Doing business with India to be made easier, promises Dharmendra Pradhan

New Delhi, Jan 11 () <keyword id="532833" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-steel-minister">Union Steel Minister</keyword> <keyword id="197418" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dharmendra-Pradhan">Dharmendra Pradhan</keyword> on Saturday launched 'Mission Purvodaya' which aims at accelerated development of eastern India through integrated steel hub. The eastern belt has the potential to add more than 75 per cent of the country's incremental steel capacity envisioned by the National Steel Policy, he said adding it is expected that out of the 300 million tonne capacity by 2030-31, over 200 million tonne can come from this region alone. The mission will drive India's march towards USD 5 trillion economy set by the government, the minister said at a launch event in Kolkata, according to an official statement.
 Stating that eastern India is a land of infinite opportunities, Pradhan said, "Despite being endowed with natural resources, this region has lagged behind in socio-economic development as compared to some other parts of the country."
 With the Mission Purvodaya in the steel sector, he said a new chapter will script the rise of eastern India by accelerated development of steel sector through an integrated steel hub.
 Under the mission, the government said it will enhance capacity through easing the setup of greenfield steel plants, develop steel clusters near integrated steel plants as well as demand centres.
 Besides, the government aims to transform logistics and utilities infrastructure which would change the socio-economic landscape in the eastern India The steps under mission also include growth of steel industry along with employment opportunities across the entire value chain.
 Eastern India, Pradhan said is a focus area for the government and about half of aspirational districts are in this region which are becoming hotspots of socio-economic development.
 He also mentioned that eastern states of India (Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal) and Northern part of Andhra Pradesh collectively hold 80 per cent of the country's iron ore, 100 per cent of coking coal and significant portion of chromite, bauxite and dolomite reserves.
 Besides, major ports like Paradip, Haldia, Vizag and Kolkata which are present in this region have more than 30 per cent of India's major port capacity.
 Since eastern India holds a special focus, the government has taken several measures including a Rs 102 lakh crore worth of National Infrastructure Pipeline, the statement added. ABI MKJ

You won't have to worry about petrol and diesel prices for next two months

New Delhi, Feb 28 () The central government is working on strengthening the steel ecosystem in Odisha whose steel production is set to cross 100 million tonnes per annum by 2030, Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said. "Today Odisha is the highest steel producing state in the country. We are working to strengthen the steel ecosystem in Odisha. By 2030, Odisha's steel production alone is set to cross 100 MTPA. Odisha is going to be the nerve centre of Mission Purvodaya in steel," Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was quoted as saying in a statement. Kalinganagar, he said, will be the hub of the clusterisation programme involving entire eastern India. "Moving beyond just producing primary steel, we will create an ecosystem of ancilliary, value added products, capital goods with industry participation," he added. The minister was speaking during a workshop in Bhubaneswar, the steel ministry said. Pradhan said that with Japan as the partner country, the government was looking forward to make Odisha, the nerve centre of Purvodaya in steel sector. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a clarion call for Mission Purvodaya, that is Eastern India driving the national growth and propelling India towards becoming a USD 5 trillion economy. "We are organising series of workshops to deliberate on how to increase steel usage in India. We have rightly chosen Japan as our partner country who will guide us for making Indian steel ecosystem bigger both in qualitative and quantitative terms," the minister said. "Today, $5 billion infrastructure spending is being done only in Odisha in developing railways, roads, airports, pipelines, bridges etc. We have achieved 100 per cent electrification in Odisha. Odisha steel output set to cross 100 MTPA by 2030: Steel Minister

State oil companies have decided to revise petrol and diesel prices daily starting June 16. The pilot for this programme has been running in five Indian cities, viz. Puducherry, Visakhapatnam, Udaipur, Jamshedpur and Chandigarh since May 1, but would now be implemented for consumers all over India. These companies are preparing for a shift in their distribution network, which would now be done daily as against earlier fortnightly practice. It was after a meeting on Wednesday that Oil Minister <keyword id="197418" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dharmendra-Pradhan">Dharmendra Pradhan</keyword> directed top executives from state-run oil companies to quickly extend this new pricing mechanism to all cities.

Squeezing Iran Iran and US have been at loggerheads ever since America pulled out of a nuclear deal involving the country. The tensions escalated after Iran threatened to enrich its Uranium to weapons grade by July 7, if US does not lift its since sanctions that are eating into its economy. US has been stepping up economic sanctions and pressurising nations to cut off oil money, the country’s lifeblood. As India is its second largest oil client after China, getting it into the fold is key. However, India seems to be in no mood to relent. It is in fact turning to Russia which is known to have its own agenda in controlling oil supplies to Eastern Europe. Indian oil ministry says that both the countries are looking to develop comprehensive engagement plan with a long-term view. “Pradhan also conveyed India’s interest to further enhance footprints in the Russian E&amp;P sector. He invited Russian oil and gas companies to invest in building gas infrastructure in India and in the expansion of city gas distribution networks,” the press release said. New Delhi, Apr 15 () Union Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday said Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has set up a COVID-19 testing lab at its Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in Odisha. The lab, set up at RSP's Ispat General Hospital (IGH), became operational from Wednesday. "SAIL has started COVID-19 testing lab lab at Rourkela. It will strengthen the state's as well as India's fight against COVID-19 pandemic," Pradhan said. While all the major equipment for the testing facility have been provided by the Government of Odisha, the infrastructure has been provided by SAIL-RSP. SAIL stated that doctors and paramedics of IGH trained at RMRC and AIIMS in Bhubaneswar will carry out the testing. ABI HRS

New Delhi, Jan 31 () The Economic Survey 2019-20 points to increasing steel production and consumption and easing of crude prices, indicating positive outlook for steel and oil and gas sectors, Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on Friday.
 The Economic Survey, tabled in Parliament by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, said India produced 64.3 million tonnes (MT) of crude steel and 59.73 MT of finished steel during April-October 2019-20.
 The sector achieved a growth of 5.2 per cent during April-November period of the ongoing financial year as compared to 3.6 per cent in the year-ago period, it added.
 In a tweet, Petroleum &amp; Natural Gas and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, "#EconomicSurvey also points to increasing steel production and consumption, easing of crude prices all indicating positive outlook for steel and oil and gas sectors."
 The National Infrastructure Pipeline of Rs 102 lakh crore will facilitate growth, create infra for future and ease lives of common citizens, he said in another tweet.
 About 1.24 lakh new firms have been created in 2018, seeing a significant jump of 80 per cent from 70,000 firms in 2014. The survey highlights government's thrust on entrepreneurship and productivity growth, the minister said.
 "#EconomicSurvey estimates that post 2015-16, average households has gained close to Rs 11,000 on average per year due to moderation in price in case of vegetarian Thali and a saving of Rs 12,000 on average per year in case of non-vegetarian Thali.
 "The Thalinomics captures the Modi Government's relentless efforts to contain inflation to protect the poorest of the poor," he said.
 Pradhan further said, "Marking a Shift from pro crony policies of the past driven by favoritism &amp; rent seeking to the rule based transparent governance driven by competition &amp; fair play has led to massive jump in Ease of Doing Business, new firm creation &amp; driving wealth creation with inclusive growth."
 He said despite short-term moderation in growth, Indian economy is poised for robust growth in the medium term, supported by strong fundamentals like narrow current account deficit, high foreign exchange reserves, robust foreign investment inflows, moderate inflation and fiscal discipline.
 The survey highlights the government's reform focused approach and transparency in governance, he said, adding "Congratulations to the economists in @FinMinIndia for coming up with an insightful #EconomicSurvey 2019-20, capturing the economic policy reforms, and presenting a perspective into the future towards $5 Trillion Economy." Given its hesitation on granting India a permanent waiver, the US <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/the-us-is-determined-to-help-india-find-a-substitute-for-iranian-oil/articleshow/66085293.cms">is intent on helping India find a substitute</a>. However, it is not opposed to granting India a short-term breather as it transitions to different suppliers. While the country’s oil minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, recently said that India would <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2018/10/08/india-oil-minister-india-will-import-irans-oil-despite-us-sanctions.html">continue to purchase oil from Iran</a> despite sanctions, Indian refiners are taking concrete steps to make up for the decline in Iranian oil imports by turning to other countries in the Middle East, namely Saudi Arabia and Iraq. <keyword id="6356834" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-oil-corporation">Indian Oil Corporation</keyword> (IOC) and other refiners have structured their contracts with suppliers in these two countries to allow for additional volumes should they need to plug a shortfall in supplies, according to a report by the Press Trust of India citing officials from these companies. The options for additional supplies can be made effective at any point in the year and are stipulated to cover a full five months worth of oil supplies sourced from Iran. Last week, Reuters <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-india-saudi-oil/saudi-arabia-to-supply-extra-oil-cargoes-to-india-in-november-as-iran-sanctions-loom-idUSKCN1MK0QN?rpc=401&amp;">reported</a> that Saudi Arabia would ship an additional 4 million barrels of oil to India in November following the imposition of sanctions. The move indicates a continued willingness to boost supplies to India. However, this is dependent on global oil prices staying within a manageable range. India already gets 25 million barrels a month from Saudi Arabia. Interestingly, Iran is India’s third-largest supplier of oil behind Saudi Arabia and Iraq. India sources more than four-fifths of its crude oil requirements from abroad, and a full 10% from Iran. In September, Iraq <a href="https://www.firstpost.com/business/iraq-replaces-saudi-arab-as-top-oil-supplier-to-india-in-august-iran-remains-third-biggest-seller-despite-heavy-cuts-5156791.html">pipped Saudi Arabia</a> as India’s largest oil supplier. A number of Indian petrochemical companies have stopped sourcing oil from Iran altogether. <keyword id="6356916" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="excise-duty">Excise duty</keyword> on branded and unbranded <keyword id="6367091" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Petrol">petrol</keyword> and <keyword id="6356109" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="diesel">diesel</keyword> has been increased by Rs 2 per litre. "Govt has decided to increase basic excise duty on petrol &amp; diesel by Rs 2/litre for infrastructure development, especially building15000 km of road," Oil Minister <keyword id="197418" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dharmendra-Pradhan">Dharmendra Pradhan</keyword> tweeted. The increase in rates will come into effect from midnight. 
 
"However, retail price of petrol &amp; diesel will remain unchanged all over India despite additional excise duty of Rs 2/litre from midnight today," the oil minister said in another tweet. 
 
A fortnightly revision of petrol and diesel prices, which was due, will not happen now due to this increase. A reduction in prices was likely to happen because of fall in crude oil prices globally. 
 
On December 2 last year, the government had increased excise duty on petrol by Rs 2.25 per litre and on diesel by Re 1 per litre. 
 
The unprecedented decline in crude oil prices has come as a blessing for the Narendra Modi government and it is helping the government increase its revenue from the fuel sale. In the past, heavy subsidies on fuel used to be a burden on the government.

Directly submitting the benefit into users’ bank accounts has helped eliminate duplicate connections as well as diversions, making the Indian Government save over Rs 21,000 crore in cooking gas <keyword id="6360114" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="LPG">LPG</keyword> subisdy in the last two financial years. 
 
It was from November 2014 that the government has started to submit subsidy amount directly into bank accounts of cooking gas consumers in select districts of India, while from January 1st 2015, the practice was started in the rest of the country. 
 
As on April 1, 2015, there were 18.19 crore registered LPG consumers, while there were 14.85 crore active consumers, which means that 3.34 crore consumers were duplicate, fake or inactive accounts. 
 "Eliminating such 3.34 crore consumers helped save Rs 14,672 crore in 2014-15 fiscal (year ending March 31, 2015)," Oil Minister <keyword id="197418" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dharmendra-Pradhan">Dharmendra Pradhan</keyword> said at a seminar on subsidies in New Delhi. 
 The year 2015-16 saw savings worth about Rs 7,000 crore, which was lower than the previous fiscal due to a fall in <keyword id="168256" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Global-oil-prices">global oil prices</keyword> that affected the subsidy.
