Accordingly, oil marketing companies raised the pump price of diesel by year high level of 36 paise per <keyword id="88122" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Litre">litre</keyword> and petrol by another 30 paise per litre in <keyword id="66" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi">Delhi</keyword>. With this increase, the fifth consecutive this week, petrol is now priced at Rs 88.44 a litre and diesel Rs 78.74 a litre in the national capital. Across the country as well the petrol prices increase ranged from 25-30 paise per litre and diesel price 30-40 paise per litre. depending on the level of local taxes on the two petroleum products. In Mumbai, petrol prices is just Rs 5 per litre short of touching three digit mark of Rs 100 per litre for the very first ever anywhere in the country. Diesel prices in the city is closing on on Rs 90 a litre. In all other metros, petrol is either a over Rs 90 a litre mark or just a shade below that level while diesel is over Rs 80 a litre barring Delhi. The increase on Saturday has followed the firming global crude oil prices that have maintained record streak of gains in past few days reaching over $62 a barrel mark. But experts said that fresh lockdown in various parts of the globe on new coronavirus strain may impact fend and push down prices soon. Though firm global crude and product price is the reason for the increase in retail price of petrol and diesel, it is interesting to note that even though crude has been hovering just over $55 a barrel for a long time earlier, OMCs had gone in for both a pause in price of auto fuels as well increase in its retail prices on consecutive days. Crude price have remained firm for last few weeks in wake of unilateral production cuts announced by Saudi Arabia and a pick up in consumption in all major economies globally. The petrol and diesel prices have increased 17 times in 2021 with the two auto fuels increasing by Rs 4.73 and Rs 4.87 per litre respectively, so far this year. The last few increases in pump prices in petrol and diesel has taken its price to record levels across the country in all major metro cities and other towns. The last time the retail price of auto fuels were closer to current levels was on October 4, 2018 when crude prices had shot up up $ 80 a barrel. The current price rise is largely on account of steep increase in central taxes of petrol and diesel and firm crude prices. The budget has also imposed a new agriculture infrastructure and development cess. Oil minister <keyword id="197418" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dharmendra-Pradhan">Dharmendra Pradhan</keyword> has ruled out any cut in duty on petro products. Petrol price was very close to breaching the all-time high level of Rs 84 a litre (reached on October 4, 2018) when it touched Rs 83.71 a litre on December 7, 2020. But the march had been halted ever since then with no price revision by the OMCs in the month. The price rise started again only on January 6. Oil companies executives said that petrol and diesel prices may increase further in coming days as retail prices may have to be balanced in line with global developments to prevent OMCs from making loss on sale of auto fuels. Diesel price rise highest in Delhi by 36 paise per litre

New <keyword id="66" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi">Delhi</keyword>, <keyword id="6367091" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="petrol">Petrol</keyword> and <keyword id="6397171" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="diesel-prices">diesel prices</keyword> extended gains on Friday with pump prices rising by 29 paisa and 35 paisa per <keyword id="88122" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Litre">litre</keyword>, respectively in the national capital. With this increase, it is for the fourth consecutive day this week that petrol prices has gone up in Delhi and is now ₹88.14 a litre and diesel ₹78.38 a litre . Across the country as well, the petrol prices increase within the 25-30 paisa per litre range, while diesel between 30-35 paisa per litre -- depending on the level of local taxes on the two petroleum products. The increase on Friday has followed the firming of global crude oil prices that have remained close to $61 a barrel mark. Fuel prices hiked for fourth straight day, petrol hits all-time high of ₹88.14 per litre in Delhi

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas <keyword id="197418" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dharmendra-Pradhan">Dharmendra Pradhan</keyword> on Sunday called for the prime tourist cities in the country to completely switch to <keyword id="1214812" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Clean-fuels">clean fuels</keyword>. Addressing a virtual meet on the occasion of <keyword id="6879115" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="World-Tourism-Day">World Tourism Day</keyword>, along with Minister for Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel, Pradhan said that such a move towards sustainability will help protect the country's monuments and ensure a cleaner environment for the tourists, an official statement said. Pradhan also noted that the tourism industry offers unprecedented potential for employment generation and empowerment of the youth, also in the rural areas. He said that "every district of our country has a historic story to share or a legend to narrate, and as India celebrates 75 years of independence in 2022, we must work on creating more tourism sites around the heroism of our freedom fighters."

As the government pushes for a self-reliant India -- '<keyword id="9210258" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="atmanirbhar-bharat">Atmanirbhar Bharat</keyword>' -- Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has appealed to the Indian students enrolled in global universities to come back and innovate in their own country. Speaking at an e-meet or a video conference with India students across the world, regarding self-reliance in the oil and gas sector, the minister noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a target for reduction of 10 per cent in energy import dependency by 2022. In this regard, the government has taken several policy as well as administrative measures to augment domestic oil and gas production and reduce dependency on imports for meeting the energy requirements of the country, he added. He said that the Prime Minister has envisioned a clear road map for India's energy future which rests on five key enablers of energy availability and accessibility for all, energy affordability to the poorest of the poor, efficiency in energy use, energy sustainability for combating climate change and energy security for mitigating global uncertainties. "India has made its presence felt in the global energy map. We are engaging with OPEC, IEA, IEF and all other major voices in the world energy discussions. India has engaged with the US, Russia, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and all major energy producers, under a policy of diversification of supply sources," he said. On the ongoing pandemic, Pradhan said that the country is in the midst of an outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic that challenges the fundamental assumptions of people's lives. "While the immediate economic impact may slow us down, we are presented with an opportunity to pause, rethink, and redesign," the minister told the students.

New Delhi, Jan 11 () <keyword id="532833" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-steel-minister">Union Steel Minister</keyword> <keyword id="197418" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dharmendra-Pradhan">Dharmendra Pradhan</keyword> on Saturday launched 'Mission Purvodaya' which aims at accelerated development of eastern India through integrated steel hub. The eastern belt has the potential to add more than 75 per cent of the country's incremental steel capacity envisioned by the National Steel Policy, he said adding it is expected that out of the 300 million tonne capacity by 2030-31, over 200 million tonne can come from this region alone. The mission will drive India's march towards USD 5 trillion economy set by the government, the minister said at a launch event in Kolkata, according to an official statement.
 Stating that eastern India is a land of infinite opportunities, Pradhan said, "Despite being endowed with natural resources, this region has lagged behind in socio-economic development as compared to some other parts of the country."
 With the Mission Purvodaya in the steel sector, he said a new chapter will script the rise of eastern India by accelerated development of steel sector through an integrated steel hub.
 Under the mission, the government said it will enhance capacity through easing the setup of greenfield steel plants, develop steel clusters near integrated steel plants as well as demand centres.
 Besides, the government aims to transform logistics and utilities infrastructure which would change the socio-economic landscape in the eastern India The steps under mission also include growth of steel industry along with employment opportunities across the entire value chain.
 Eastern India, Pradhan said is a focus area for the government and about half of aspirational districts are in this region which are becoming hotspots of socio-economic development.
 He also mentioned that eastern states of India (Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal) and Northern part of Andhra Pradesh collectively hold 80 per cent of the country's iron ore, 100 per cent of coking coal and significant portion of chromite, bauxite and dolomite reserves.
 Besides, major ports like Paradip, Haldia, Vizag and Kolkata which are present in this region have more than 30 per cent of India's major port capacity.
 Since eastern India holds a special focus, the government has taken several measures including a Rs 102 lakh crore worth of National Infrastructure Pipeline, the statement added. ABI MKJ

India will leapfrog to BS-VI, equivalent to Euro-VI grade fuel, from current BS-IV fuel from April 1 in a bid to cut vehicular emissions. "BS-VI, which is comparable with CNG in terms of providing clean energy, is expected to bring down sulphur level by 5 times from the BS-IV levels. This will go a long way in mitigating the problem of air <keyword id="13001" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="pollution">pollution</keyword> and improving air quality," an official statement said. The country’s oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan spoke to his Russian counterpart, Alexander Novak to strengthen their energy ties. Balancing act “During the telecall, Pradhan conveyed his concern on the growing crude oil price volatility during the last few weeks, and also urged Russia to continue to play a balancing role in its engagement with OPEC countries by taking into account the interests of consuming countries,” the ministry said in a press release on Thursday. This move comes after US placing sanctions on Iran, and had been trying to force India’s hand over importing oil from the country. That is tough since India buys as much as 10% of its oil from the country. Apart from receiving favourable rates and shipping terms, the quality of Iranian crude bodes well with Indian refining capacity. Squeezing Iran Iran and US have been at loggerheads ever since America pulled out of a nuclear deal involving the country. The tensions escalated after Iran threatened to enrich its Uranium to weapons grade by July 7, if US does not lift its since sanctions that are eating into its economy. US has been stepping up economic sanctions and pressurising nations to cut off oil money, the country’s lifeblood. As India is its second largest oil client after China, getting it into the fold is key. However, India seems to be in no mood to relent. It is in fact turning to Russia which is known to have its own agenda in controlling oil supplies to Eastern Europe. Indian oil ministry says that both the countries are looking to develop comprehensive engagement plan with a long-term view. “Pradhan also conveyed India’s interest to further enhance footprints in the Russian E&amp;P sector. He invited Russian oil and gas companies to invest in building gas infrastructure in India and in the expansion of city gas distribution networks,” the press release said. Oil is only one of the many areas of Indo-Rus ties. India is trying to work a deal with the country to purchase 400 missile defence systems. He said so while attending a road show in Houston, Texas to promote the auction of 46 discovered oil and gas fields. 
 These fields, which were discovered by <keyword id="769942" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Oil-And-Natural-Gas-Corporation-Ltd">Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd</keyword> (<keyword id="6354737" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="ONGC">ONGC</keyword>) and <keyword id="111992" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Oil-India-Ltd">Oil India LTD</keyword> (OIL), are predicted to be put on production through speedy efforts. 
 The road show was attended by several global oil-related companies, including Magna Energy, BP, IHS Energy, Texas Oil &amp; Gas Technology, Nabors, McDermott, Reliance Exploration and Production DMCC, <keyword id="50041" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="KPMG">KPMG</keyword>, Halliburton, Joshi Technologies International, Vega Energy, and Schlumberger. For all details of these oil and gas fields to be made available to the interested parties, the road show had extensive and detailed presentations and one-on-one meetings with the companies. 
 Some companies, like BG, <keyword id="128650" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cairn-Energy">Cairn Energy</keyword>, ONGC, and RIL also shared their happy experiences when they worked in the Indian exploration and production (E&amp;P) sector. 
 
The minister, in this moment of glory, promised a "transparent regulatory regime" and greater ease of doing business, adding that "We recognise that the need of the hour is to increase the domestic energy production by unlocking India's hydrocarbon potential." 
 
The current round of bidding round is also being held under a revised set of guidelines which are industry friendly; the Discovered Small Fields Policy is also acting as the regulatory framework. 
 
The round is seeing potential investors being offered 67 fields in 46 contract areas, across 9 sedimentary basins, through International Competitive Bidding in the oil and gas producing basins. 
 
36 of these fields are located in offshore areas, while the rest 31 are in on land basins. These fields, together, have an estimated 625 Million barrels of Oil and Oil Equivalent Gas in-place volumes, while being spread over 1500 square kilometers. 
 The show turned out to be a hit, with the hall full of attendees, including heads of major energy companies, think tanks, analysts, Indian Americans with interest, oil lobbyist, diplomats and various technologists. Pradhan took this opportunity to assure all possible support from his Ministry and the <keyword id="6377129" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Government-Of-India">Government of India</keyword> so that investors’ endeavours can reach good results. 
 
"The bid timelines are stringent and my team is geared to ensure a smooth process. I look forward to an encouraging participation in the bidding from you all. We have also setup a facilitation cell for assisting you throughout the bid process," he said amidst a thunderous applause.
