New Delhi, Jan 9 () The farm policies need to be reoriented to first ensure income security to farmers and later make them businessmen, a senior agriculture ministry official said on Thursday.
"Now, we are thinking to secure the community which has made our country food secure. We must emphasise on income security of farmer friends. Unless they are secured our aim of food and nutrition security, feed and fodder security and ecology security will not be fulfilled," said Ashok Dalwai, chairman of hight-level panel on doubling farmers income.
Dalwai, who is also CEO of the National Rainfed Area Authority (NRAA), has recommended several policy measures to improve the income of farmers.
Speaking at an event organised by agro-chemicals firm Dhanuka Agritech Ltd, Dalwai said India has the capacity to improve the income of farmers.
"All our knowledge, science, policies need to be reoriented to benefit them. ...After income security, our next step would be to make farmers businessmen who works for profit which will be done though policy and other changes," he said.
Dalwai also mentioned that the green revolution must not be perceived negatively and at the same time there is a need to learn lessons from the milk revolution.
On the occasion, Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Minister of State for Agriculture Kailash Choudhary gave away the first edition of Dhanuka Innovative Agriculture Award (DIAA) with cash amount totalling Rs 22 lakh to 32 farmers in various categories for adopting and practising innovative farming techniques.
Dhanuka Agritech Chairman R G Agarwal said the awards have been instituted to felicitate the innovative farming community and encourage farmers to share their practices to enhance crop productivity and their income. LUX BAL

New Delhi, Feb 13 () Agro chemical firm Dhanuka Agritech on Thursday reported a 90 per cent increase in its consolidated net profit at Rs 27.67 crore for the quarter ended December. Its net profit stood at Rs 14.60 crore in the year-ago period. Total income rose to Rs 279.32 crore in the third quarter of this fiscal year from Rs 220.57 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year. Dhanuka Agritech manufactures a wide range of farm input products. It has a network of more than 8,000 distributors and dealers selling to over 75,000 retailers across India and reaching out to more than 10 million farmers. MJH SHWSHW

New Delhi, Mar 25 () Agro-chemicals firm Dhanuka Agritech Ltd on Wednesday said it has temporarily shut down operations in all its three manufacturing units amid nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19 outbreak. In a regulatory filing, the company said this is in line with the directives issued by the respective state governments and authorities to prevent and contain the outbreak of coronavirus. The company has temporarily shut down its registered office, corporate office and operations at all its three manufacturing facilities located at Sanand (Gujarat), Udhampur (J&amp;K) and Keshwana (Rajasthan), it said. Furthermore, all other offices have been closed down and employees have been asked to work from home, the filing said. The company said it will resume operations and offices once the situation improves and suitable directions are issued by the central or state government. LUX SHWSHW

"The Microsoft for Agritech Startups programme is among the early steps in our journey towards empowering these startups in India and transforming global agricultural practices," said Sangeeta Bavi, Director, Startup Ecosystem, Microsoft India. Startups with enterprise-ready solutions can scale quickly with joint go-to-market strategies, technical support and new sales opportunities with Microsoft's partner ecosystem. Lastly, agritech startups that are looking to create digital agriculture solutions have the opportunity to co-build customized solutions with Azure FarmBeats without investing in deep data engineering resources. New Microsoft programme to empower agritech startups in India

New Delhi, Nov 18 () The NCLAT has rejected the bid of Dhanuka Laboratories for the debt ridden Orchid Pharma, and vacated the order passed by the Chennai-bench of NCLT, which had earlier approved its resolution plan.
The appellate tribunal observed that the approved resolution value, which stood at Rs 1,146.04 crore, proposed by Dhanuka Laboratories was lower than the liquidation value of Rs 1,309 crore of the company.
"The upfront payment alleged to be less than the 'Liquidation Value' of Rs 1,309 crore," said the NCLAT-bench headed by Chairman Justice S J Mukhopadhaya.
Earlier, the Chennai-bench of National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) had approved the Resolution Plan submitted by Dhanuka Laboratories on its order dated 25 and 27 June, 2019.
"Admittedly, the amount offered in favour of stakeholders including the 'Financial Creditors' and the 'Operational Creditors' is being much less than the 'Liquidation Value', such 'Plan' cannot be accepted.
"For the reasons aforesaid, we set-aside the impugned order dated 25/27th June, 2019 ordering approval the 'Resolution Plan', but do not interfere with the impugned order dated 25th/27th June 2019 by which the application filed by M/s Dhanuka Laboratories Ltd, a 'Resolution Applicant' was rejected," said the National Company Law Appellate (NCLAT).
The appellate tribunal said infusions of fund for maximization of the assets of the Corporate Debtor cannot be counted for the purpose of the amount. Dhanuka Laboratories resolution plan also had a provision of equity infusion of Rs 570 crores as working capital.
"Infusions of fund for maximization of the assets of the 'Corporate Debtor' cannot be counted for the purpose of the amount, which is being kept for distribution amongst the stakeholders, including the 'Financial Creditors' and 'Operational Creditors', if it is less than the 'Liquidation Value', such 'Plan' cannot be upheld, being against the object of the I&amp;B Code and Section 30(2) of the said Code," it said.
The NCLAT order came over a petition filed by Accord Life Spec, which had challenged the order of NCLT approving Dhanuka Laboratories' bid. KRH BAL

New Delhi, Dec 17 () Agritech start-up Bijak on Tuesday said it has raised over USD 2.5 million (about Rs 18 crore) from various investors, including Omnivore and Omidyar Network India, for expansion of its business.
 Sequoia Capital India's rapid scale-up programme, Surge and Better Capital have also invested.
 Gurugram-based Bijak, which was launched in May 2019 by Nukul Upadhye, Mahesh Jakhotia, Jitender Bedwal, Daya Rai and Nikhil Tripathi, would utilise the fund on new technology and hiring fresh talent, among others.
 Bijak is a platform that gives agricultural commodity buyers and sellers better prices, increased working capital, and optimised logistics. It brings accountability and transparency into the agricultural value chain through a buyer/seller rating system, and enables traders, wholesalers, and food processors to keep a ledger of their transactions, access transparent pricing, and improve their working capital cycles.
 The app is available in several local languages and currently caters to multiple agricultural states, including Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Bihar, and Uttarakhand.
 "Focused on addressing challenges such as accountability and trust in the B2B (business-to-business) agri commodity trade, we are targeting a USD 200 billion market in India which has almost 5 million middlemen. Additionally, we have customised the app for agricultural commodity traders, with terminologies used in the mandis (wholesale markets) that they are familiar with," said Bijak co-founder Nukul Upadhye.
