<ul><li>The German banking giant, <keyword id="6357341" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="deutsche-bank">Deutsche Bank</keyword>, has plans to onboard up to 1,000 employees this year.</li><li>Dilipkumar Khandelwal — Deutsche Bank’s global chief information officer (CIO) of Corporate Functions Technology — revealed that the bank is looking for employees willing to learn rather than just the right set of skills, in an exclusive interview with Business Insider India.</li><li>The aim of this hiring drive is to build competencies in-house in India so that the need for outsourcing is drummed down.</li></ul>Deutsche Bank plans to hire up to 1,000 new employees this year in India at its technology centres, as it looks to double down on digitisation. The company is looking for people who have the ability to be flexible as technology changes rather than specific digital skills. This includes around 300 freshers and 700 lateral hires. That being said, the focus is on cloud technology, simplifying the tech stack — which is the back end processes for loans, account opening and other functions — competence in <keyword id="107950" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="artificial-intelligence">artificial intelligence</keyword> (AI) and <keyword id="294572" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="machine-learning">machine learning</keyword> (ML). “In line with our strategy of internalising our technology talent and growing our engineering capabilities in house, we are expecting to hire up to 1,000 employees at our India technology centres this year,” Dilipkumar Khandelwal, global chief information officer (CIO) of Corporate Functions Technology at Deutsche Bank told Business Insider India in an exclusive interview. It is about more than just hiring the right talent Like most big corporations, Deutsche Bank hires from the best campuses in India like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). According to Khandelwal, the bank is looking at at least 25 to 35 different colleges across the country. And, there’s no dearth of talent. “The challenge almost comes in when you want to build those core capabilities, your existing organisation plus what you’re hiring has the right set of functional and technical depth that you require,” explained the Indian School of Business alumnus. Core capabilities include moving the background code that a bank needs to run its applications to the cloud, specifically Google’s public cloud, and reducing dependencies. This means faster upgrades and roll-out of new services in the future. “We’re looking at not just hiring people but also increasing the maturity of the people in terms of the skills they need to acquire,” Khandelwal told Business Insider India. This could mean upskilling or reskilling with the aim to have talent in-house. The need for outsourcing should come down. Maturity means the capability of learning new skills and building on them to further develop technology ahead of the curve. “The overall maturity has to go up. Otherwise, you’ll always have a tendency of work getting outsourced and not having the right capabilities and decision-making powers in the right locations,” explained the man who has been with Deutsche Bank for a little over a year. COVID-19 pandemic presented a unique challenge where most people were hired virtually. Going forward, this will only change if the pandemic numbers are low enough to make coming to the office a reality again. “At some point of time, you need to think about how you integrate them with the larger workforce and how do you get them to integrate them to be a part of the organisation’s culture,” said Khandelwal. INTERVIEW: Deutsche Bank plans to hire 1,000 employees in India as it looks to build core technologies in-house

<ul><li>This placement season, undergraduate colleges like Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR), Shri Ram College of Commerce (<keyword id="6363378" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="SRCC">SRCC</keyword>) and St Stephen's college witnessed a jump in the job offers and average salaries. </li><li>The average salary package at LSR and SRCC went up from ₹7.5 lakh to ₹10 lakh per annum. The highest offered bagged by these freshers stood at over ₹30 lakh. </li><li>Among the top recruiters were Gartner, EY, PwC, Deloitte, KPMG, Samsung and Accenture. For the 2019-20 placement season, the average salary package at LSR and SRCC went up from ₹7.5 lakh to ₹10 lakh per annum. The highest offered bagged by these freshers stood at over ₹30 Lakh. As many as 130 students received job offers at SRCC. “We haven't seen an overall impact of the slowdown in placements. The number of companies coming has more or less remained the same since last year, however the number of students that were made an offer to have increased,” Kanika K Ahuja, placement in-charge at LSR told ET. The students who get admission to these Delhi University-affiliated colleges have to score over 95% in the 12th grade — due to high cut-offs. Among the top recruiters were Gartner, EY, PwC, Deloitte, KPMG, Samsung and Accenture. The highest offer stood at ₹18 lakh per annum. The average compensation at other DU colleges fluctuated between ₹6 lakh to ₹10 lakh per annum. While the overall average salaries in India went up by 45% for undergraduate students. This is despite the economic downturn in the country. The growing trend of summer placements The growing trend of summer placements and pre-placement offers too might have had an effect on the increased interest of recruiters. Companies like Deutsche Bank, Citi Bank are also banking on summer placements to assess talent, thereby extending pre-placement offers. At SCBS, Goldman Sachs visited the campus to hire interns for their investment banking division. Students also received PPOs from companies like KPMG, RocSearch and Grofers. Delhi University students bag job offers that pay as much as ₹31 lakh per annum

Global consulting firm ZS says it plans to hire 3000 employees in India this year

The company currently promises speeds between 50 to 150Mbps for Starlink project that plans to deliver high-speed Internet through a network of about 12,000 satellites. It has already put over 1,000 of its Starlink satellites in orbit. "Speed will double to 300Mb/s &amp; latency will drop to 20ms later this year," Musk said in a tweet late on Monday. He said that Starlink project will cover most of Earth by end of year, all by next year, then "it's about densifying coverage". "Important to note that cellular will always have the advantage in dense urban areas. Satellites are best for low to medium population density areas," Musk added. Earlier this month, Musk said that Starlink will list publicly after the cash flow of the service becomes "reasonably well". Starlink is now delivering initial beta service both domestically and internationally, and will continue expansion to near global coverage of the populated world in 2021, says its official website. Starlink says that the service is ideally suited for areas of the globe where connectivity has typically been a challenge. Starlink's internet speed will double to 300Mbps by this year, says Elon Musk

Foreign institutional investors turned net sellers in the capital market as they offloaded shares worth Rs 893.25 crore on Monday, as per exchange data. Domestic equities look to be good at the moment despite mixed cues from global markets, said Binod Modi Head-Strategy at Reliance Securities. Concerns pertaining to increase in bond yields and higher commodity prices dented investors' sentiments in the last couple of days. However, the underlying strength of the economy and market remains intact in our view and hence any further correction in the market should be used to buy, he said. He further added that Indian companies are likely to see sustained earnings recovery in subsequent fiscals and therefore premium valuations are likely to sustain. US equities extended losses in overnight trade on Monday as worries over continued rise in bond yields dampened investors' sentiments. Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Shanghai and Hong Kong were trading on a positive note in mid-session deals, while Seoul was in the red. Meanwhile, the global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 1.38 per cent higher at USD 65.25 per barrel. Sensex reclaims 50,000-mark, Nifty trades near 14,800

Nearly eight in 10 <keyword id="6358610" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="businesses">businesses</keyword> globally feel that the pandemic has increased the likelihood of a state-led or <keyword id="10807750" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="-sponsored-cyberattack">-sponsored cyberattack</keyword> on their <keyword id="48809" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Organisation">organisation</keyword>, revealed a new survey by the <keyword id="110503" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Economist-Intelligence-Unit">Economist Intelligence Unit</keyword> (EIU) and the Cybersecurity Tech Accord on Monday. The businesses call for greater international political cooperation to mitigate these state-sponsored <keyword id="6377004" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="threats">threats</keyword>. The survey was conducted between November and December 2020, before the pernicious cyberattack on software company SolarWinds came to light that affected over nine federal agencies and 100 organisations, according to the White House. "That attack was a moment of reckoning for many organisations about the challenges posed by state-led and -sponsored cyberattacks but, as the survey reveals, many businesses have long been aware of the escalating threat," the research said. "As a coalition of over 150 global technology companies, we are greatly concerned by state-sponsored cyberattacks, which are becoming ever more frequent and sophisticated. Something needs to be done and soon," said Annalaura Gallo, secretariat of Cybersecurity Tech Accord. "This survey shows that businesses see state-led and -sponsored cyberattacks as a pressing issue that demands governments act nationally and internationally." Companies expect cyber threats from nation-state actors to increase in the next five years and will be second only to that of organised crime. "There is a false sense of security. Sixty-eight per cent of executives feel their organisations are 'very' or 'completely' prepared to deal with a cyberattack," the report mentioned. The survey targeted over 500 director-level or above executives from businesses in Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the US, familiar with their organisation's cybersecurity strategy. According to Charles Carmakal, senior vice president and CTO at FireEye, most organisations don't have tangible experience dealing with such threats because they are rarely the primary targets of these attacks. "The recent SolarWinds hack may compel more organisations to think about how they mitigate risk," he said. Although cyberattacks are a silent threat, they can have devastating and long-lasting effects on our society. "Given the recent escalation of tensions in cyberspace, cooperation between governments is becoming increasingly complicated as political systems differ and technological competition rises," said Marietje Schaake, President of the CyberPeace Institute. Xiaomi launches Mi Portable Bluetooth speaker, Mi Neckband Bluetooth Earphone Pro in India

Swedish music streaming platform <keyword id="685487" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Spotify">Spotify</keyword> has announced that it will arrive in over 80 new <keyword id="6407494" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="countries">countries</keyword>, along with rolling out 36 new languages on its platform. Announcing this at its online event, "Stream On" late on Monday, the company said that sounds and stories that once remained local will have access to a global audience of fans across nearly 180 <keyword id="31671" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="markets">markets</keyword>. Spotify currently has more than 340 million active users and 150 million subscribers using its ad-free premium product across 93 countries including India. "In each new market, we will work with local creators and partners to expand our music offerings and deliver a Spotify experience that meets the unique needs of each market," Spotify said. "The existing rich music cultures in each of these markets will now be able to reach Spotify's global audience. All this untapped music energy and access to our innovative creator tools will help propel artists to new heights and empower them to turn their passion into a profession," the company elaborated. Spotify will offer free and premium across all the markets. In select markets, Spotify will offer Individual, Family, Duo, and Student Plan options. "Listeners will be able to select and search from Spotify's worldwide catalog when using the product, providing a personalized experience from day one," the company added. The home screen will surface personalized playlist programming for new listeners. The browse and search pages will feature worldwide content hubs, and adapt to the local market and the listener's taste the more they use the service. At launch, Spotify will offer its full global catalog in these new markets. The company said it will continuously work with local rights holders and partners to expand its catalog to include more local offerings. In the majority of these markets, Spotify will launch with its full podcast catalog. "For the others, it will work closely with local partners to introduce more podcasts from its catalog, as well as Spotify's proprietary creator platform, Anchor," it said. Spotify to enter 80 new countries with 36 new languages

The 308% jump in its shares in just four months has made investors curious despite the airline being grounded after incurring heavy losses, the airline stock has been able to woo people to fuel up its share price. <div type="image" title="Jet share price (1)" msid="81154639" hostid="261"></div> Meanwhile, the stock was today locked in an upper circuit when the broader market plummeted by over 1100 points, and its listed peers IndiGo, SpiceJet were down 4% and 3%, respectively, amid weak global cues. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="81150110" title="One in every five rupees lent by SBI to individuals, goes to government employees" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> Here's what made the investors cheers despite an overall selloff: The new owner is in a hurry to take the airline airborne with 25 aircrafts Murari Lal Jalan of the Jalan-Kalrock consortium told PTI that they expect to restart the defunct airline's operations in four to six months after receiving approval from the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) for its resolution plan. Earlier in December last year, Jalan said that it plans to operationalise Jet Airways by the summer of 2021, subject to certain conditions. The NCLT likely to take a final call on the airline's resolution plan, the winning consortium's lead member Murari Lala Jalan told that "everything is on track" as far as the revival efforts for the carrier are concerned. Stressing that he is very positive about the Indian aviation sector, the new owner of Jet Airways said that initially, the airline would resume flying with around 25 aircraft. "We are very hopeful that it (NCLT nod) will come," he said, adding that a delay of one or two months here and there would not make a difference for such a big thing as reviving the airline. The company plans to remain public In another interview, the new promoters said the company will retain the 'Jet Airways' brand and will keep the airline public. "We will definitely continue the way it was. Jet will remain a full-service offering...The name of the airline will also remain unchanged, Jalan told <a href="https://www.livemint.com/companies/news/jet-to-remain-public-restart-with-25-planes-11613953029156.html">LiveMint</a>. Jalan further added that the company also has plans to rehire some of the old employees. "Jet's former staff are assets and we will definitely want to look after them. We will do whatever is possible and whatever is practical. They are human capital, and experienced professionals, who we are looking forward to working with," he added. All plans in place While there has been a curiosity that even if the airline can cope with the delays of NCLT and other paperwork, will it be able to secure its slots? Jalan, in its interview, made it clear that the airline will get its slots back. "We are very optimistic. We have been assured by the ministry (of civil aviation) that whatever slot is required will be made available. Also, a lot more slots are available now than what a year ago. I don't foresee any problem with slots," said Jalan. The company also plans to keep Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru as its hub like before. The revival plan proposes to support Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities by creating sub-hubs in such cities. Likely turbulence that investors should not ignore Jet Airways, the once-storied full-service carrier, was grounded in early 2019 and subsequently is undergoing proceedings under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC). This despite the tribunal itself classifying the case as one of national importance, there were no hearings at the NCLT between October last year and early February. The law mandates that the corporate insolvency resolutions process (CIRP) to be finished within 330 days after proceeding. However, in the case of Jet, the process has crossed over 530 days.
