<p><div type="image" title="Da 5 Bloods 3 Netflix" height="718" width="1361" msid="76342112" hostid="261"></div></p><ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="2872996" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Delroy-Lindo">Delroy Lindo</keyword> is a celebrated character actor known for <keyword id="406" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Movies">movies</keyword> like "Malcolm X," "Crooklyn," and "Get Shorty."</li><li>But he has never been nominated for an Oscar.</li><li>That should all change with <keyword id="323507" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Spike-Lee">Spike Lee</keyword>'s "<keyword id="9185924" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="da-5-bloods">Da 5 Bloods</keyword>" in which he gives an unforgettable performance.</li><li>Insider's senior <keyword id="4578" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="entertainment">entertainment</keyword> reporter Jason Guerrasio examines Lindo's performance in "Da 5 Bloods" and why the attention he'll get for it is long overdue.</li></ul><p><strong>Warning: Spoilers below if you have not seen "Da 5 Bloods."</strong></p><p>Yes, I was shocked too when I looked it up: Over Delroy Lindo's incredible 46-year career he's never once been nominated for an Oscar.</p><p>But if there's any justice in this world (and I know that's a big stretch these days) that's going to change with "Da 5 Bloods."</p><p>In Spike Lee's latest movie (available Friday on Netflix), Lindo gives a masterful performance as Paul, a Vietnam veteran who goes back into the country with three other men (Clarke Peters, Isiah Whitlock Jr., and Norm Lewis) he served with to find the remains of their squad leader (Chadwick Boseman) and recover the gold they left behind during the war.</p><p>In typical Delroy Lindo fashion, he holds nothing back. The intensity is on point. And the gift he has to suck us into everything he's doing on screen is on full display.</p><p>However, before I go any further gushing about how great he is in "Da 5 Bloods," let's first take a moment to celebrate Lindo's stellar career to this point for those who don't know.</p><h2>Lindo is one of the best actors working in Hollywood today</h2><p>For many, his work is synonymous with three Spike Lee movies: "Malcolm X," "Crooklyn," and "Clockers." In all three Lindo gives different kinds of performances, but what they all have in common is audiences can't forget them.</p><p>Even in the epic "Malcolm X," which features one of Denzel Washington's greatest roles as he plays the civil rights leader, Lindo matches him scene for scene playing West Indian Archie, the Harlem gangster who takes young Malcolm under his wing.</p><p><div type="image" title="Malcolm X Warner Bros" height="683" width="1366" msid="76342115" hostid="261"></div></p><p>Lee <a href="https://books.google.com/books?id=1SqXAAAAQBAJ&amp;pg=PA154&amp;lpg=PA154&amp;dq=West+Indian+Archie+originally+for+samuel+l+jackson&amp;source=bl&amp;ots=7GCYOSnufB&amp;sig=ACfU3U2sFDdcK5VEie47GYsbNszUk3NToA&amp;hl=en&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=2ahUKEwj5jOPJ8PnpAhUARjABHZuMAPAQ6AEwAHoECBMQAQ#v=onepage&amp;q=West%20Indian%20Archie%20originally%20for%20samuel%20l%20jackson&amp;f=falselly%20for%20samuel%20l%20jackson&amp;f=false">wrote the role specifically for Samuel L. Jackson, and when he passed Lee went to Charles S. Dutton, but his schedule shooting the TV show "Roc" made it impossible</a>. That left Lindo, and in all honestly, despite the greatness of those two other actors, neither would have been able to do what Lindo does opposite Washington. With a calm but forceful approach, he powers the scenes he has with the movie's star, but never overshadows him.</p><p>In 1995, the same year he made "Clockers," Lindo also starred in "Get Shorty" and once more created a memorable character in the role of Bo Catlett. The movie, an adaptation of the entertaining Elmore Leonard crime novel, also gave Lindo the ability to show off his biting wit, as he muscles a B-movie director (Gene Hackman) and clashes with fellow tough guy Chili Palmer (John Travolta).</p><p>Thanks to Lindo's deep voice, big laugh, and hard stare he made what could have been a forgettable, paint-by-numbers, bad guy role in a lesser actor's hands into a formidable challenge to Palmer throughout the story.</p><p><div type="image" title="Get Shorty MGM" height="472" width="944" msid="76342117" hostid="261"></div></p><p>In the following years, he cemented his character actor credentials in movies like "Broken Arrow," "Ransom," "The Cider House Rules," "Gone in 60 Seconds," and teamed with Hackman again in the fantastic David Mamet movie "Heist." (A note to aspiring actors, don't spend your money on acting school, just buy "Heist" and watch it constantly.)</p><p>Lindo has always worked steadily on movies and TV shows, and perhaps because of the ease with which he plays any role, it has led to him not receiving the recognition that he rightfully deserves. But with "Da 5 Bloods" that all ends.</p><h2>Lindo shines in 'Da 5 Bloods' as a destructive Vietnam veteran</h2><p>No more saying Delroy Lindo is the glue of any project he's in or he makes those around him better, what Lee has done with his latest movie is finally put Lindo in the spotlight to shine all on his own. Literally.</p><p><div type="image" title="Da 5 Bloods 4 Netflix" height="710" width="960" msid="76342121" hostid="261"></div></p><p>The Paul character in "Da 5 Bloods" is a man filled with conflict. He reluctantly returns to a country where he witnessed (and did) horrific things during the war but gained friends for life. He says he only went on the trip to bring back the remains of their squad leader Stormin' Norman, but he's constantly talking about the gold and about how many shares people are getting, especially when his son David (Jonathan Majors) suddenly shows up and wants to tag along. Paul is also a Black man who is a Trump supporter, even sporting the red MAGA hat through the movie.</p><p>That's a whopper of a character, and Lindo embraces the conflict Paul has within himself to create a figure that at one moment can be the group's de facto leader and in the next can be its most destructive member. The latter becomes more and more evident as the 5 Bloods head deeper into the jungle.</p><p><div type="image" title="Da 5 Bloods David Lee Netflix" height="1000" width="2000" msid="76342124" hostid="261"></div></p><p>When they find the remains of Stormin' Norman the whole group breaks down but Paul is the one who takes it the worst (we find out at the end of the movie why that is). And when the group finds the gold, it's Paul who suddenly turns all Fred Dobbs on everyone — Dobbs is the character Humphrey Bogart plays in "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre," a movie "Da 5 Bloods" mirrors often. He even turns his back on his own son.</p><p>When Paul decides to break from the group and go it alone with his share of the gold — MAGA red hat placed firmly on his head — it's a chilling moment but also exciting because Lee is about to give Lindo something he's rarely gotten in a movie: his own defining moment.</p><p><div type="image" title="Da 5 Bloods Netflix" height="643" width="1349" msid="76342127" hostid="261"></div>Trudging through the jungle by himself you know that Paul's days are numbered, but with Marvin Gaye playing in the background he goes on and something very powerful happens. Lee puts the camera's point of view directly on Lindo. Paul is now speaking to us directly and he delivers a charged soliloquy about how he will choose his own fate. It won't be the war or the government, it will be only him. And it ends with him raising his fist, the camera finally moving from his face to close out on the clenched fist.</p><p>This will not just go down as another iconic moment in the work of Spike Lee, but a long-overdue moment for Lindo to be celebrated.</p><p>Watching the movie a second time I'm even more taken by how Lindo plays Paul's end. The anger that turns to pain, then comedy as he loses his gold, and finally acceptance when he has that beautiful moment sobbing in the arms of the spirit of Stormin' Norman.</p><p>It's a performance that at the very least deserves an Oscar nomination. Yes, trivial to think about in today's world, but in these times it's the small things that can get you through it. And in an already storied career Delroy Lindo has, it would feel good to see a true artist get recognized for their craft.</p><p><em>"Da 5 Bloods" is currently streaming on Netflix.</em></p>

Spike Lee favorite Delroy Lindo gives a masterful performance in 'Da 5 Bloods' that should finally earn him his first-ever Oscar nomination

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Netflix's new Black western "<keyword id="12259101" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="the-harder-they-fall" source="Orion">The Harder They Fall</keyword>" premiered in London on Wednesday. </li><li>The film has been embroiled in a debate around <keyword id="12259103" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="colorism" source="Orion">colorism</keyword> in Hollywood over <keyword id="12259102" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="zazie-beetz" source="Orion">Zazie Beetz</keyword>'s casting.</li><li>"We do have a way of separating ourselves," star <keyword id="12259100" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="jonathan-majors" source="Orion">Jonathan Majors</keyword> responded during a press conference.</li></ul><p>Netflix's "The Harder They Fall" - which boasts an all-Black cast who portray fictionalized versions of real-life historical Black people - has been embroiled in a wider discussion about colorism in Hollywood.</p><p>It's been the <a href="https://twitter.com/CarrieCnh12/status/1442900424382566402?s=20" target="_blank" rel="noopener">topic of discussion</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/SBBFilm/status/1442852192642375687?s=20" target="_blank" rel="noopener">on social media</a> since its A-list cast was announced with critics questioning whether it was appropriate for actor Zazie Beetz - who's best known for her work on FX's "Atlanta" and is a light-skinned Black woman - to be cast in the role of dark-skinned Black woman Mary Fields, commonly known as Stagecoach Mary, the first Black female mail carrier who was previously enslaved.</p><p>One of the film's stars, Jonathan Majors - who's best known for his work on HBO's "Lovecraft Country" - was asked during a Wednesday press conference for the film, which opened the 2021 London Film Festival on Wednesday evening, how the "The Harder They Fall" could help bring unity amongst members of the African diaspora across the world. </p><div type="image" title="A picture of Stagecoach Mary and Zazie Beetz in &quot;The Harder They Fall.&quot;" height="1200" width="1600" msid="86823346" hostid="261"></div>As he began to speak, Majors said his answer might be "slightly controversial." <p>"I think the best progress is when we can all be one," he began. "From my experience, we do have a way of separating ourselves."</p><p>"In Memphis, it's 'they're Baptists down the street.' We've labeled ourselves: I'm African American, I'm light-skinned, you're dark-skinned," Majors continued, seemingly addressing why the film received backlash. "We do separate ourselves and I think it's through storytelling, through the progress of seeing the separation, and trying to figure out what brings us together. And in most cases, it's a very spiritual conflict."</p><p>The Jay-Z-produced film also stars Idris Elba and Regina King, who also joined director Jeymes Samuel and Majors for the festival's first in-person press conference since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.</p><p>"The Harder They Fall," premiering October 6  at London's Royal Festival Hall before its launch on Netflix October 22, also stars LaKeith Stanfield, Deon Cole, and Delroy Lindo. </p>

'The Harder They Fall' star Jonathan Majors says 'he's trying to figure out what brings us together' after the movie was criticized for colorist casting

In 1991, his film "Do The Right Thing" lost the best picture race to "Driving Miss Daisy" and the 63-year-old director wouldn't pick up a competitive Oscar until 2019 with his crime drama "Blackkkklansman."</p><p>On social media, people reacted to Lee's surprising snub and highlighted the awkward fact that his children would be the show's ambassadors.</p><p>New York Times film critic Kyle Buchanan said: "Well this won't be awkward at all: Spike Lee's kids will be Golden Globe ambassadors the same year their dad's movie was brutally snubbed across the board."</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Peters told Insider he was arrested in a demonstration to end the <keyword id="67273" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Vietnam-war">Vietnam war</keyword> in 1969.</li><li>However, he said meeting American <keyword id="6479429" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Veterans">veterans</keyword> who still live in <keyword id="13486" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Vietnam">Vietnam</keyword> changed his views.</li><li>"I have much more sympathy now about what they had to go through and what war has done to them."</li></ul><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/clarke-peters-pimp-role-hurt-his-career-2021-4">Clarke Peters</a> grew up during the Vietnam War. He watched the live reporting alongside his father, a veteran of the Korean War, and was dumbfounded as to why the US was fighting there in the first place.</p><p>Peters' objections against the war even led to him being arrested while attending the massive <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moratorium_to_End_the_War_in_Vietnam">Moratorium to End the War in Vietnam demonstration</a> in Washington, D.C. in 1969.</p><p>Fast-forward 50 years, and Peters suddenly found himself in Vietnam for <a href="https://www.insider.com/spike-lee-chadwick-boseman-cancer-da-5-bloods-2020-10">Spike Lee's "Da 5 Bloods."</a></p><p>"I'm in Vietnam and all these ghosts come up," Peters told Insider over a recent Zoom call, looking back on making the movie. "I'm thinking, we're Americans and we're going to Ho Chi Minh City. That was Saigon! How are these people going to treat me?"</p><p>In "<a href="https://www.insider.com/da-5-bloods-cinematographer-most-memorable-scenes-moments-2020-6">Da 5 Bloods</a>" Peters works alongside the likes of Delroy Lindo, Isiah Whitlock Jr., and Norm Lewis to play a group of Vietnam veterans who, decades after fighting in the war, return to Vietnam to retrieve the remains of their squad leader (<a href="https://www.insider.com/chadwick-boseman-world-mourns-death-of-black-panther-star-2020-8">Chadwick Boseman</a>), find the gold they left behind, and take on the ghosts of their past.</p><p>So how did Peters, a man who most of his life was against the war, feel about playing a soldier who fought in it?</p><p>He said it completely changed his perception of the Vietnam War.</p><p>"180 degrees, it really did," Peters revealed.</p><div type="image" title="Da 5 Bloods 4 Netflix" height="710" width="960" msid="82050600" hostid="261"></div><p>The actor, who was awarded a BAFTA best supporting actor nomination for his performance as Otis, the medic of the group who reunites with his Vietnamese lover during the war and learns he has a daughter with her, said what made him think differently was his interactions before filming began with American veterans currently living in Vietnam.</p><p>"These men went <em>back</em> to Vietnam for whatever reason, they needed to go back there," Peters said in amazement. "I have much more sympathy now about what they had to go through and what war has done to them."</p><p>Peters admits even a few years after shooting the Netflix movie he's still processing the fact that American soldiers who fought in the war realized the only way they could find peace was to live in Vietnam, though, it doesn't mean their demons have been exorcised.</p><p>Peters recalls he and his castmates speaking to one American veteran who seemed to change right in front of their eyes when they asked him if he'd ever seen someone die during his time in the war.</p><div type="image" title="da 5 bloods netflix" height="720" width="1280" msid="82050601" hostid="261"></div><p>"His whole energy changed," Peters said. "He was quiet. He took a long time to finally say, 'Yeah, I did.' And this brother is living in Vietnam, so I wonder what ghosts are haunting him. He seemed to be so relaxed up to that moment, but you could just feel the sadness and anger and loss welling up inside him."</p><p>Peters, who is also known for his work on "<a href="https://www.insider.com/best-tv-shows-of-all-time-2017-11">The Wire</a>" and "His Dark Materials," said the experience of being in Vietnam before shooting began on "<keyword id="9185924" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="da-5-bloods">Da 5 Bloods</keyword>" didn't alter his Otis character from how he was originally portrayed in the script. But he does feel he brought more love to a character.</p><p>"The irony of this whole thing is when I got arrested at the Moratorium in Washington I was a first-aid medic," Peters said. "Here in this movie I'm following the same path, so the sense of caring came easy for me. What was heightened was opening up more of a caring in me, knowing what these men had gone through. Clarke did that, not Otis."</p><p><em>"Da 5 Bloods" is currently available on Netflix.</em></p>

Clarke Peters says starring in 'Da 5 Bloods' changed his perception of the Vietnam War '180 degrees'

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="323507" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Spike-Lee">Spike Lee</keyword> told Variety that <keyword id="1635781" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Chadwick-Boseman">Chadwick Boseman</keyword> never told him that he was battling colon cancer when they made "<keyword id="9185924" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="da-5-bloods">Da 5 Bloods</keyword>."</li><li>"It was a very strenuous shoot," Lee said. "If I had known, I wouldn't have made him do the stuff. And I respect him for that."</li><li>Lee now sees the final scene of Boseman in the movie as the actor having "God's heavenly light" shining on him.</li></ul><p>Spike Lee is as shocked as everyone else about the sudden death of Chadwick Boseman, whom he cast in his Netflix movie "Da 5 Bloods." It was the last movie we saw the actor star in before his <a href="https://www.insider.com/black-panther-star-chadwick-boseman-dies-of-cancer-age-43-2020-8">sudden death in August due to colon cancer</a>.</p><p>But Lee is especially taken by the courage of Boseman on set because according to the Oscar-winning writer-director the actor never revealed his diagnosis. </p><p>"He did not look well, but my mind never took that he had cancer," Lee told <a href="https://variety.com/2020/film/news/spike-lee-chadwick-boseman-da-5-bloods-2-1234793585/">Variety's Clayton Davis</a>.</p><p>Looking back, Lee puts the actor, who played a character dubbed "Stormin' Norman," in high regard for going through the challenge of playing a Vietnam War squad leader in the movie without ever complaining.</p><p>"It was a very strenuous shoot," Lee said. "I mean, we all didn't get to Vietnam until the end of the movie at Ho Chi Minh City. But that other stuff, the jungle stuff, was shot in Thailand. It was 100 degrees every day. It was also at that time the worst air pollution in the world. I understand why Chadwick didn't tell me because he didn't want me to take it easy. If I had known, I wouldn't have made him do the stuff. And I respect him for that."</p><p>But others on set noticed how Thailand's intense environment took a toll on Boseman. After his death, Clarke Peters, who plays Otis in the movie, told "Good Morning Britain" that he noticed so many people tending to Boseman on set. Because he was unaware of the actor's hidden condition, Clarke thought the actor's fame had gone to his head.</p><div type="image" title="Da 5 Bloods 2 Netflix" height="1270" width="1693" msid="78540090" hostid="261"></div>"My wife asked me what Chadwick was like, you know? And I was really excited to work with him," <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXNaGrhjVIk&amp;feature=emb_titleitle">he said earlier this year</a>. "I said, 'Well, I think he's a little bit precious.' And she said, 'Why?' I said, 'Because he's surrounded by people who are fawning over him. He's got a Chinese practitioner who's massaging his back when he walks off set. He's got a makeup lady who's massaging his feet. His girlfriend is there holding his hand. And I'm thinking, 'Well, maybe the 'Black Panther' thing went to his head.'"<p>Clarke wiped away his tears as he continued: "I regret even having those thoughts because they were really looking out for him."</p><p>Lee told Variety that whenever he watches Boseman's character's final scene in "Da 5 Bloods," he has a powerful feeling. It's a moving moment in which Paul (played by Delroy Lindo), lost in the jungle, looks over to an open clearing. There, he sees the ghost of Norman, Boseman's character, with a light shining down on him. Lee said he had a spiritual feeling shooting that moment.</p><div type="image" title="Da 5 Bloods Stormin Norman Netflix" height="727" width="969" msid="78540092" hostid="261"></div>"It was God's heavenly light," Lee said of that scene. "We didn't have light. You know, Delroy is talking to the camera, talking about his conversation with God. We go up, and we come down and we find this heavenly light. It's Chadwick standing in that light, in that pose. That was God up there. I don't care what nobody says. That was God's heavenly light because that scene's not lit. That's natural light. And that was God sending heavenly light on Chadwick."<p>"Da 5 Blood" cinematographer Newton Thomas Sigel spoke specifically about that scene while <a href="https://www.insider.com/da-5-bloods-cinematographer-most-memorable-scenes-moments-2020-6">talking to Insider</a> about  the movie. He said it was his favorite shot because of how it came together.</p><p>"It was one of those amazing serendipitous moments where everything from performance to lighting to location all came together," he noted. "I knew the shot needed some kind of transition from this internal monologue to this fantastical event, and it just all came together."</p><p>"I knew the shot needed some kind of transition from this internal monologue to this fantastical event, and it just all came together," Sigel continued. "The original location I was presented with for that scene was different and to me, it didn't have the magic that the scene needed. So I found another area. <ul class="summary-list"><li>"<keyword id="9185924" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="da-5-bloods">Da 5 Bloods</keyword>" cinematographer <keyword id="9413216" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="newton-thomas-sigel">Newton Thomas Sigel</keyword> told Insider that <keyword id="323507" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Spike-Lee">Spike Lee</keyword> had to push <keyword id="128682" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Netflix">Netflix</keyword> to let them shoot the movie's flashback scenes on 16mm film.</li><li>The grainy, chrome look of the scenes where Da 5 Bloods are fighting during the Vietnam War has been praised by critics.</li><li>Sigel said the streaming giant was concerned about the challenges that would come from shooting on the format.</li><li>It's a rarely-used film format and there were concerns about shipping the footage from the set back to the US for it to be processed.</li><li>Sigel said it was Lee's "fervent support" that finally got Netflix to give the OK.</li></ul><p>Spike Lee's new movie "Da 5 Bloods" is being celebrated for its moving story that mirrors the social unrest currently going on in today's world and its unique visionary choices.</p><p>But the movie's cinematographer said the latter would have been less memorable if Netflix got its way.</p><p>Veteran director of photography Newton Thomas Sigel ("The Usual Suspects," "Drive," "Extraction") revealed to Insider that the streaming giant was initially concerned about having the movie's flashback scenes of the main characters fighting in Vietnam shot on grainy 16mm film.</p><p>"There was pushback because it opened up a lot of challenges," Sigel told Insider.</p><p>The DP said because 16mm film, specifically the kind of stock Lee wanted to use that gave the picture a chrome look, is so rarely used these days it would be hard to come by. And with the movie being shot in Vietnam and Thailand, the 16mm footage would have to be flown back to the US to be processed at a specific lab.</p><p>All of this would lead to a heavy price tag for Netflix to pull off.</p><p>"But Spike was pretty adamant," Sigel said. "I would never have been able to do it without such fervent support from him."</p><p>Sigel said originally the flashback scenes of Da 5 Bloods (played in the movie by Delroy Lindo, Clarke Peters, Norm Lewis, Isiah Whitlock Jr., and Chadwick Boseman) fighting in the war was not to be shot on a different format. He proposed the idea to Lee in preproduction.</p><p>"I think what really sold Spike on it was that this is what would have been used if a crew was there in Vietnam shooting during the war," Sigel said.</p><p><div type="image" title="Da 5 Bloods 2 Netflix" height="1270" width="2000" msid="76411955" hostid="261"></div></p><p>The choice has been hailed by critics. <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/culture/archive/2020/06/da-5-bloods-spike-lees-most-ambitious-film/612952/">The Atlantic</a> noted the flashback scenes are "crackling, vibrant visuals." While <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/film/2020/jun/14/da-5-bloods-review-spike-lee-vietnam-war-delroy-lindo-clarke-peters-chadwick-boseman">The Guardian</a> praised how Sigel "squeezes the widescreen frames of the present into the square newsreel format of the past." The 16mm look definitely makes those flashback scenes match perfectly with the archival footage of civil rights leaders and horrific visuals from the Vietnam war that shows up throughout the movie.</p><p>Some may scratch their heads that Netflix would question Lee about wanting to shoot on 16mm as it has historically been known for abiding by filmmaker requests, even spending millions so Martin Scorsese could de-age Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci in the close to $200 million-budgeted "The Irishman." However, Lee has been adamant while doing press for the movie that <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/features/da-5-bloods-spike-lee-challenges-his-new-project-1297668">Netflix was the only place in Hollywood willing to make the movie</a>, having been rejected by numerous studios previously.</p><p>Lee didn't de-age his main characters during the flashback scenes because, as he told <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/21/movies/spike-lee-da-5-bloods.html">The New York Times</a>, "I was not getting $100 million." But Lee putting his foot down to get the right visual aesthetic for a movie is consistent with what the Oscar-winner has done throughout his filmography. <keyword id="406" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Movies">Movies</keyword> like "25th Hour," "He Got Game," and "Clockers" are just a sampling of the titles where Lee played with picture tone and different shooting formats to tell his stories.</p><p>Looking back Sigel said it's possible they could have got a similar look in the flashback scenes on "Da 5 Bloods" if they didn't shoot on 16mm and just messed around in post-production with the footage. But, why fake it?</p><p>"It would have never been the same," Sigel admits.</p><p><em>"Da 5 Bloods" is currently available on Netflix.</em></p>

'</span>The Good Wife'<span> was a little bit about the Obama years. This gives shape to a new show.
