The laptop comes with a 2-in-1 form factor, meaning it can also be used as a tablet. It features a sturdy hinge that allows you to comfortably convert it from a laptop to a tablet and vice versa, without worrying too much.<br /><br />The company says that this is the most compact business laptop in the market and it’s true. The weight is slightly on the higher side but that has been done to make it durable and sturdy. The metal edges and soft-touch matte finish give it a premium look and it feels good when you hold it.<br /><br />One of my gripes about a lot of laptops is that they are difficult to open with on hand. Opening the Dell Latitude 9450 may be an issue sometimes as you may not find anything on the lid to hold onto. Unlike Apple’s MacBook which can be opened easily with a single hand, I often had to use both hands to open the laptop.<br /><br />Once you open the laptop, you appreciate the design even more. The keyboard offers a smooth and velvety feel. The palm rest is also very soft and feels very comfortable to use. It features an anti-smudge coating so you don’t have to worry about fingerprint smudges. While you can easily navigate the touchscreen with your fingers, Dell also offers a stylus to help you make the best out of the touchscreen.<br /><br />While an OLED panel would have offered improved contrast and better blacks, the IPS panel on the Latitude 9450 performs well. The biggest issue with the display is that the refresh rate is limited to 60Hz.<br /><br /><h2>Performance</h2>The Dell Latitude 9450 is available in various configurations. I tested the variant with the Intel Core Ultra 7 165U chipset. The chipset offers which offers two performance cores and eight efficiency cores. The Intel Core Ultra is a new Meteor Lake chipset from the company and comes with Intel Arc graphics.<br /><br />The laptop is equipped with up to 16GB LPPDR5X RAM and 1TB PCIe Gen 4 NVMe.<br /><br />The new chipset from Intel is equipped with a dedicated neural processor unit that is aimed at performing AI tasks with ease. The laptop can handle machine learning and AI workloads without breaking a sweat.<br /><br />As the device is packed with powerful hardware, I had no issues with performance. The laptop easily handles everything that you throw at it without any issues and multi-tasking is a breeze. A plain-Jane design, barely enough performance so that you can fill out your spreadsheets, right? Well, <keyword id="28251" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dell" source="Orion">Dell</keyword> is trying to add a bit of flair to this category of laptops with the Dell Latitude 7320. There are actually two variants in this line-up, the vanilla Latitude 7320 which is a 2-in-1 laptop capable of a full 360-degree split and the Latitude 7320 Detachable which comes with a detachable folio keyboard.<br /><br />I got to spend a couple of weeks with the former and I found it pretty refreshing, to say the least, and here’s how it fared in my review.<br /><br /><strong>Design &amp; I/O</strong><br /><br />  <div type="image" title="ports - cropped" msid="88126237" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The Dell Latitude has a bunch of ports to offer, including a full-sized HDMI and two USB type-C ports.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br /><br />Let’s start with one of the things that I really came to like about the Dell Latitude 7320 — its design. It’s not too mundane like most <keyword id="2427663" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="business-laptops" source="Orion">business laptops</keyword> in the wild nor is it trying too hard to impress with something gaudy. It has a minimalist yet timeless design.<br /><br />It’s crafted out of aluminium, which yields it a premium feel and its overall footprint is pretty portable. Although it’s marketed as a lightweight laptop, tipping the scales at 1.12kg, it feels a bit heavy in your lap because of how dense it is. But given all this, it still can be carried around easily in a backpack.<br /><br />Opening the lid is manageable with a single hand, and once you do that you are greeted with a 13-inch display, keyboard and trackpad. Thanks to the aluminium build, there’s very little flex on the keyboard deck as well as the lid.<br /><br />In terms of I/O options, on the right side of the laptop, you’ll find a microSD card reader, a USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4 port, a USB-A port, an HDMI port, and the wedge lock slot. The left side features another Thunderbolt 4 port and a combo audio jack.<br /><br />This laptop only charges via Type-C and ports on both sides can be used — something that I find really practical. It usually sucks when the direction of your AC socket is opposite to that of your charging port, so the ability to charge your laptop via both sides is really convenient.<br /><br /><strong>Specifications and Pricing<br /></strong>Since this is a business laptop, it comes in a plethora of configurations to choose from. This is because employers buy such laptops in bulk, and configure them to their liking. But Dell says that in its top configuration, you can power it up with Intel’s vPro-enabled 11th-Generation i7-1185G7 processor paired with Iris X integrated Graphics, 32GB of LPDDR4X RAM and a terabyte of PCIe Gen 3 M.2 SSD. It is also TPM 2.0 compliant, so you may get support for Windows 11.<br /><br />The vPro badge basically means IT can have remote access to your laptop and can also provide timely updates tailored to your company’s needs.<br /><br />In terms of pricing, Dell says the bare basic version of Dell Latitude 7320 starts at Rs. 85,000 (exclusive of taxes) and then you can start building it up according to your enterprise’s needs.<br /><br />  <div type="image" title="intel core i5 - cropped" msid="88126258" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The Dell Latitude 7320 comes in a plethora of configurations but all of them feature Intel&amp;#39;s latest 11th-generation processors. &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />Having said that, my review unit came with an Intel i5-1135G7 processor paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB PCIe NVMe Class 35 SSD. All this was backed by a 42WHr battery that was accompanied by a 65W charger.<br /><br /><strong>Hardware performance<br /></strong>The hardware was good enough to get through most of my casual work which mostly included some heavy Chrome browsing. Heavy spreadsheets along with some docs and CMS duties worked just fine -- both with and without the charger.<br /><br />This laptop also comes with Dell Optimizer pre-installed. Once I took out the time to set it up (and not treat it as yet another piece of bloat), I ended up liking it. For starters, it gave me access to ExpressConnect, which made sure I connected to the fastest access point available around me, something that I found really useful in the office. ExpressSign-in is another such feature that I found useful. It used the laptop’s proximity sensor enabled by Intel’s Context Sensing Technology to determine when to ask me for the four-digit pin to log in. It worked well in the day, but the night I could see it faltering. Then you also have ExpressResponse, which may be the most undervalued of all these. It lets you prioritise the apps you use the most so that you can open them faster.<br /><br />I didn’t expect much in terms of video editing or gaming, as my unit lacked standalone graphics and sufficient RAM, and I was mostly right. Adobe Premiere Pro was mostly unusable due to the stuttering and 13-inch screen size. The same is the case with gaming. F1 2020 was too slow to be played. But older titles, such as Age of Empires 2 and Stronghold Crusader HD from Steam worked fine. So if you’re a person who is into casual gaming, you may not mind it all that much.<br /><br /><strong>Display</strong><br />While we are on the topic of screen size, I think the 13-inch display of this laptop is actually pretty good at what it does. As the full HD resolution isn’t being stretched much, it looks crisp. I also like the colour saturation of the display— it’s vibrant and very much to my liking. The display also comes with ComfortView technology that claims reduces blue-light emissions, making sure your eyes aren’t stressed when you’re working for long hours.<br /><br />The display has a glossy finish, so reflections are going to be problematic if you’re planning to work outdoors or in a brightly lit room. But indoors, it’s pretty much manageable.<br /><br />  <div type="image" title="glare - cropped" msid="88126275" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The Dell Latitude 7320 comes with a 13-inch full HD touchscreen that is prone to catching fingerprints and reflections.  &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br /><br />The touchscreen performance was nothing to write home about. Sometimes it was pretty responsive to my inputs, sometimes it wasn’t. But swipe gestures were a bit difficult to execute precisely overall. The speakers, though downward-firing, sounded a little tiny to my liking and lacked thump. Further, the glossy nature of the display also makes it a fingerprint magnet, something that becomes more noticeable when you use it in tablet mode.<br /><br />It was nice, nevertheless, to have 2-in-1 functionality. I’m a bit of a loner and I liked having a big-ish display to accompany me in the kitchen (I don’t recommend you do this) as I watched the latest episode of Young Sheldon.<br /><br />The top of the display also houses a 720p webcam with a privacy slider. It doesn’t take up a lot of bezel real estate and is compatible with Windows Hello, which means you can unlock your laptop with it. The webcam quality is nothing extraordinary, but it’s not terrible either and you can totally use it to attend Zoom calls or Google Meets.<br /><br /><strong>Keyboard and trackpad<br /></strong>Given its small footprint, the Latitude 7320 has a surprisingly well-spaced keyboard. But that didn’t translate into a good typing experience. While I did like the size and travel of the keys, I didn’t like the feedback. I wasn’t quite sure about my inputs getting registered at times, which is a bummer for a work laptop. One thing I did like was the distinctive feel of the power button and how well it was integrated into the keyboard. I never pressed it by accident, and whenever I did press it, it felt purposeful and deliberate. The trackpad, though small, was pretty responsive and I had no issues with it.<br /><br />  <div type="image" title="keyboard - cropped" msid="88126284" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The Dell Latitude 7320&amp;#39;s keyboard is nice and spaced out, but has poor tactile feedback. &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br /><br /><strong>Connectivity</strong><br />In terms of wireless connectivity, you have the latest WiFi 6 offering along with Bluetooth 5.1 across the lineup. Connecting to a network is quick and so are the data speeds. I also connected a pair of headphones and speakers wirelessly via Bluetooth, and the results were acceptable, offering about 7-8m of uninterrupted wireless connectivity.<br /><br /><strong>Battery</strong><br />Battery backup is pretty important for a business laptop like this and I was able to extract eight hours easily. This was achieved while browsing some Chrome, filling spreadsheets, playing videos and writing documents. Playing Age of Empires 2 for an hour, cut the backup by an hour and a half, which isn’t terrible by any measure.<br /><br /><strong>Verdict</strong><br />Given the great design, portability, build quality, crisp display and good battery life, the Dell Latitude 7320 makes for a good business laptop. The keyboard, though pretty well laid out, wasn’t very comfortable for my long fingers, but the typing experience may be slightly different for you. It sports a machined-aluminum finish with diamond-cut edges for professionals looking.<br /><br />The PC features, the Intel Wi-Fi 6 (Gig+) and 5G-ready mobile broadband capabilities for more productive.<br /><br />The Latitude 9510 comes with built-in Artificial Intelligence, powered by the Dell Optimiser Software.<br /><br />The Dell Optimiser software works behind the scenes to improve overall application performance, enable faster log-in and secure lock outs, eliminate echoes and reduce background noise on conference calls.<br /><br />The Latitude 9510 is available in two variants, 2-in-1 convertible as well as a clamshell laptop.<br />

Dell Technologies on Wednesday launched new XPS 13 and XPS 15 premium consumer laptops in India, at a starting price of Rs 1,44,807.<br /><br />The XPS 13 is all about its design, which is exquisite from every imaginable angle. It houses a 13.4-inch display in an 11-inch form factor.<br /><br />"For discerning users who appreciate the perfect balance of conscious design and performance in their computer, the new XPS range is your go-to devices to choose from," Raj Kumar Rishi, Vice President &amp; Managing Director for Consumer and Small Businesses, Dell Technologies India said in a statement.<br /><br />The new range offers a 4K UHD+ panel with VESA certified DisplayHDR 400 for over 16 million colors and 500 nits of brightness.<br /><br />It is powered by 10th generation Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor coupled with Intel Iris Plus graphics. There is 16GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 256GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD storage.<br /><br />The XPS 13 delivers up to 18 hours 49 minutes3 of runtime on an FHD+ configuration when using productivity applications like Word or Excel.<br /><br />XPS 15 features a 15.6-inch 4K UHD display with 16:10 aspect ratio. Dell XPS 13, XPS 15 premium laptops launched starting at ₹1,44,807

<p>Dell announced on Tuesday its <span>Latitude 7285 laptop, which the company says is the world's first laptop that can charge wirelessly.</span></p><p><span>To work, you'd need the Latitude 7825's wireless charging keyboard, as well as the wireless charging mat, which are both sold separately in a combo for $550 on top of the Latitude 7825's base $1,200 price tag.</span></p><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5964fbd1d9fccd1b008b5a98-957/dell-latitude-wireless-charging.jpg" alt="dell latitude wireless charging" /><p class="source"><span>Dell</span></p><p><span>It's an identical concept to wireless charging smartphones, where you place a smartphone onto a wireless charging mat or dock. With that in mind, the benefits of a wirelessly charging laptops aren't hugely significant, and it's more of a convenience at this stage. You still need to charge the laptop wherever the wireless charging mat is located.</span></p><p><span>Wireless charging also means you don't need to fumble around for a charging cable, and you can keep the charging cable out of sight. The wireless charging mat, however, would still need to be connected via cable to a power outlet. </span></p><p><span>Dell says that the wireless charging mat isn't designed to be used on a metal surface, as the wireless charging technology it uses involves magnetism. gaming monitor is premium and the design reflects this. The monitor features a sleek and elegant design. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful monitors I’ve used to date.<br /><br /><div type="image" title="2" msid="113404216" hostid="261" sizebytes="6750" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Alienware logo at the back&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />At the back, the monitor comes with a black-and-white theme, offering a good contrast. While the black part is glossy, the white part is matte. The back comes with the Alienware logo with RGB lighting on the right side and a “32” logo on the left side with RGB lighting. The lighting at the back can be customised using the Alienware Command Centre.<br /><br />The monitor comes with a wide-base V-shaped stand with matte white plastic on top of a sturdy metal base. The monitor comes with Alienware branding at the front on the bottom bezel.<br /><br />You can tilt the screen up or down or swivel side to side, based on your preference to get the best viewing angles. The monitor weighs 6 kg for the panel and goes up to 8.8 kg with the stand.<br /><br />At the back, the monitor offers a white cover that allows you to tuck in your cables, allowing you to properly manage your cables.<br /><br />One of the only drawbacks of the monitor is that this doesn’t pack in speakers. While headphones are best for gaming, having a speaker comes in handy when you do not wish to use headphones.<br /><br />It comes with a joystick at the bottom that allows you to control the monitor’s menu system. The joystick works well and responds quickly. You get several customisation options with the joystick, including HDR modes, custom colour calibration, presets, modes and more.<br /><br />You also get some features aimed at gamers such as an on-screen crosshair, sniper mode, shadow boosting and a black equalizer.<br /><br />In terms of connectivity, the monitor offers one DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC, two HDMI 2.1 ports, three USB Type-A ports and one USB Type-C port. I had an amazing experience with the monitor as it delivers vibrant visuals and a smooth gaming experience.<br /><br />The monitor offers an excellent resolution, vibrant colours and excellent response time.<br /><br />The monitor comes with various HDR modes, including Dolby Vision HDR mode. I will explain this in my review. <br /><br /><strong>Price &amp; Availability</strong><br />HP Pavilion Plus is available only in one variant. The laptop comes with an Intel core i5 processor, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of SSD storage, and Intel iRIS Xe graphics. It is available at a price of ₹79,999. You can buy the laptop from Amazon India, HP’s own website, and select offline retailers. <br /><br /><strong>Design &amp; Display</strong><br />HP Pavilion Plus follows a familiar design language that we are accustomed to on HP laptops. Offered only in a natural silver color, it looks chic and yet minimalistic. Unlike the newer HP laptops with the revised HP logo on the back, here we get to see the good old circular stamp. On the right side there are two USB Type-C ports, a USB Type-A port and an HDMI port. On the left side it has a 3.5mm headphone jack, another USB Type-A port and a micro SD card reader. The card reader was beneficial for me since I copy footage regularly. HP is calling it a full size keyboard. However, this isn’t one considering we don’t have a dedicated number pad here. Keeping that aside, it does take some time getting used to the keyboard. Usually it is the control key that is the bigger of the two, but it’s the opposite in its case. And trust me, it’s more annoying than it seems. Anytime I would think I am pressing the control key I would end up punching the alt key. <br /><br />I find it very surprising that we also don’t get a ₹ symbol key on the keyboard. I have the same issue on my Macbook Pro as well. In both cases, I had to set up macros on the keyboard. Especially since this review is also written on the HP Pavilion Plus. <br /><br />That being said, with practice, you will reach back to your optimum typing speed, since the travel time here is indeed perfect. Also, the backlight on the keys is perhaps the brightest that I have seen lately. You have three levels of brightness for them, which is also useful for saving the battery. <br /><br />Keyboard shortcuts on a business laptop are a must, and HP has done a fairly good job with that. The F key row on the laptop lets you adjust pretty much everything necessary here. A quirky shortcut is an F1 key that has a smiley emoji on it. It is a shortcut to an emoji &amp; GIF menu for you to share. Something I have not seen on a laptop. <br /><br />Panning down from the keyboard, we have a big trackpad that takes up almost half the palm rest area on the laptop. As expected, you get some neat gestures on the trackpad. Like, pinch in to zoom and swipe to shift windows. However, they are a bit choppy in execution. When it comes to basic actions like tapping or scrolling on a page it works fine. But with complex gestures, it seems to miss out. And it does get annoying, especially when you are coming from a Macbook. I would try to view the tabs with a swipe but end up closing the page altogether. Eventually, I had to avoid using gestures.<br /><br /><strong>Display</strong><br />HP Pavilion Plus features a standard display for 2022 laptops in its segment. This is a 14-inch display with a screen resolution of 2240x1400 pixels. The display has thin bezels on three sides and a thick bottom bezel. These are textbook characteristics of an enterprise laptop.<br /><br />Now HP has tried to make the display for both entertainment and work. I watched the She-Hulk finale on it, along with the latest episode of Andor. The color tones on the panel are accurate, and the HDR also looks decent most of the time. What I didn’t like is its low brightness levels, especially outdoors. <br /><br />A show like Andor, which has a ton of scenes in outer space, demands good amounts of brightness to register the action, which was missing in this one. The black levels were also slightly underwhelming - a characteristic usually associated with LCD panels.<br /><br />But it’s not all bad here since the audio setup on the laptop will surprise you. One of the louder speaker setups I have heard on a business notebook, the HP Pavilion Plus, can provide room-filling audio. I would often find myself listening to music while working on the laptop. <br /><br /><div type="image" title="The brightness on the panel is underwhelming for watching content" msid="95146093" hostid="261" sizebytes="112960" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The brightness on the panel is underwhelming for watching content&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />While the display performance for entertainment is a bit underwhelming, it manages to make up when it comes to working. With a matte coating on the screen, there were no glares or reflections that would distract me.<br /><br />The provided screen brightness is more than enough for general computing. This involves spreadsheets, emails, and Google Meet calls as well. Also, since the display comes with an anti-glare coating, there was no problem working on the laptop outdoors as well. <br /><br />Simply put, from a strict business notebook perspective, this is one of the better displays I have personally used. But if you wish to have an all-in-one performer, then you might be disappointed.<br /><br />I want to close this section by discussing the laptop’s integrated webcam. This is a 5MP sensor that will surprise you. Usually, laptop webcams are infamous for grainy pictures and poor low light performance. The unit here takes care of both of these issues to a large extent. The sensor captured better details on video calls and did comparatively better in low light conditions. <br /><br /><strong>Software &amp; Performance</strong><br />HP Pavilion Plus is powered by a 12th gen Intel core i5 processor, which is a favorite of OEMs when it comes to business notebooks. Efficiently tuned, the chipset does fare well for general computing tasks. Namely - emails, surfing the internet, video calls, maintaining spreadsheets, and accessing Google suite.<br /><br />This serves the core purpose of this laptop, it breezes past everyday tasks smoothly. <br /><br />But I am not a regular user, since my job also demands me to edit videos. And so I gave it a shot. I installed premiere pro on the laptop and tried rendering short videos that we publish on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/businessinsiderin/reels/">Business Insider India’s </a> Instagram. <br /><br />Do note this is a 9:16 timeline with 1080P footage shot at 30 fps and some basic transitions and graphics. And while I had some doubts about it, the performance was not shabby. A 70-second video was exported within 2 minutes which is respectable. I have tried similar renders on Dell Latitude laptops with similar chipsets and the export time was in line with those. <br /><br />Where the HP Pavilion Plus surprised me was the render quality. On the Dell Latitude laptop,, I observed a green tint in the exported file, which was a GPU limitation. However, here, the Intel Iris Xe graphics show their prowess. It’s subtle but noteworthy. <br /><br />Yes, it doesn’t mean that you can rely on the Pavilion Plus as your go-to machine for video editing, considering it taps out on 1080P resolution for editing. But yes, this is good enough hardware for urgent cuts, chopping, and a fair bit of photo editing. <br /><br />Also, the 16GB of DDR4 RAM on the laptop is worth noting. It makes the operations on it breezy. From boot up speed of the laptop to starting new applications, the experience is smooth. And I am talking about heavy apps like Premiere Pro as well. <br /><br />We get 512GB of SSD storage on the laptop which provides quick read and write speeds. I also connected an HDD with the laptop to transfer data and the speed was respectable at 90 mbps. Yes, 512GB might not sound a lot on paper, but considering most professionals are using cloud and external storage these days, it should be sufficient. <br /><br />For performance reference I also ran a Geekbench and Cinebench test on the laptop. <br /><br />On the Geekbench CPU benchmark the laptop had a single-core score of 1400 while the multi-core score of 7078. <br /><br /><div type="image" title="Geekbench score for HP Pavilion Plus" msid="95146128" hostid="261" sizebytes="14568" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Geekbench score for HP Pavilion Plus&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />With cinebench which is used to check the graphics prowess of a laptop, the single-core score was 1262 points and the multi-score score was 7764. <br /><br /><div type="image" title="Cinebench R23 score equates to the graphic prowess of the laptop" msid="95146159" hostid="261" sizebytes="14700" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Cinebench R23 score equates to the graphic prowess of the laptop.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />These are impressive numbers and certainly better than what you would expect from a Business notebook. <br /><br />Before we move on to the software experience, it’s important to highlight the battery life on the HP Pavilion Plus. And this is perhaps its strongest suite. I was getting upto 4 hours of average battery life on a heavy day of usage on the laptop. The ideal drainage is also minimal and I would generally just shut the lid on the laptop and go on with my day. Charging speeds are also favorable with the laptop charging upto 50% within 30 minutes with the 90 Whr charger. A complete charge takes about an hour and 15 minutes. <br /><br />Battery life is very crucial on a business notebook and HP has done well on that aspect. <br /><br />Now, on to software. The HP Pavilion Plus runs on Windows 11 Home, and the performance is standard. Nothing extraordinary or jaw dropping. <br /><br /><div type="image" title="Windows 11 Home is smooth on HP Pavilion Plus" msid="95146230" hostid="261" sizebytes="68068" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Windows 11 Home is smooth on HP Pavilion Plus&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />And frankly, that’s not bad news. Windows 11 Home package works well in sync with the hardware on board. It is responsive and as basic as it can be. I used my usual buffet of applications that I go to on my notebooks. Instagram, Spotify, Google Chrome and Whatsapp. And the performance across them was smooth. <br /><br />So if you are familiar with the Windows 11 ecosystem and want a smoother performance then you are in for a treat. Considering the hardware does infact improve the performance to the last mile. <br /><br /><strong>Verdict</strong><br />HP Pavilion Plus finds itself at a very tough spot considering the price. At ₹79,999 it becomes very difficult to recommend this laptop to users without mentioning a specific use case. So let me break it down for you all. <br /><br />If you are someone who swears by a Windows machine and wants a reliable business notebook. Then you can consider the Pavilion Plus. It is expensive but takes care of all your executive needs. <br /><br />But, if you are a student or a dynamic user who doesn’t have a well-defined use case, then you can look at other options in the same price range. Maybe even a Macbook Air M1 if budget isn’t an issue. <br /><br /><br /><br />

But other companies at CES announced high-tech face masks that you'll actually be able to buy. It has built-in earbuds and a microphone so that you can take calls and listen to music while wearing it, and it comes with a medical-grade N95 filter. The company said it'll be delivering the bot to customers in early 2021.</p><p>Laptop case and accessory maker <a href="https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=999&amp;u=1088116&amp;m=73862&amp;urllink=us.targus.com%2F%3Fsscid%3D11k5_fid2k3D11k5_fid2k" rel="nofollow sponsored">Targus</a>, meanwhile, announced a UV-C light meant to sit on your desk to disinfect your workspace. The light runs for five minutes every hour and can disable itself if it senses motion near the cleaning zone. Targus said the desk light would be released sometime in March 2021. </p><p>The idea of using UV-C to disinfect frequently trafficked spaces is far from new. Some businesses like New York City's Magnolia Bakery began using so-called <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/uv-light-cleanse-portals-used-to-kill-germs-coronavirus-2020-6">"cleanse portals" in 2020</a> that zap away germs with UV-C, and hospitals and medical facilities have also previously used the tech for sanitization purposes.</p><p>But the prominence of UV-C gadgets at CES, a show that's typically focused on cutting-edge tech, suggests there's renewed interest from companies large and small in finding new ways to use technology for sanitization. </p><p>Other companies focused on reducing contact with frequently touched surfaces rather than disinfection. Alarm.com's Touchless Video Doorbell can alert owners when someone is at the door either through their smartphone or a chime placed in the home after the visitor steps on a special doormat. It's just not easy for consumers to do simple repairs, and that contributes to a huge eco-waste problem around the world.<p>That's according to <a href="http://www.greenpeace.org/international/en/press/releases/2017/Apple-Samsung-products-among-least-repairable-Greenpeace-assessment-of-tech-brands/">a new report</a> by the environmental nonprofit <a href="http://www.greenpeace.org/international/en/">Greenpeace</a> and <a href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=1&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=0ahUKEwi646HgsuPUAhUEdj4KHRWaAnoQFggyMAA&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ifixit.com%2F&amp;usg=AFQjCNEdf0ebc4IiQca8HQUAAZybrJBTBw">tech repair company iFixit</a>.</p><p>Looking at 44 different smartphones, tablets, and laptops, they examined how easy it is to repair each device and gave them scores across several factors, including the difficulty level of taking it apart, and whether the company releases information on how to replace things like batteries and displays. The scores range from 0 to 10, with higher numbers indicating that it's easier to repair the device.</p><p>Apple's iPad Pro 9.7" and iPad 5 both scored a 2, while the MacBook Pro 13" and Retina MacBook received a 1. Apple products do not come with repair guides, and the company does not sell spare parts to third party repair shops, the report said. iPad screens are also heavily glued to the rest of the device, greatly increasing the chances of damaging the glass during a repair. In Macbooks, the processors, RAMs, and flash memories are soldered to the motherboards, making these parts difficult to access for repair or replacing.</p><p><span>Gary Cook, Senior IT Sector Analyst at Greenpeace USA,</span> told Business Insider that these design decisions have huge implications for the environment. </p><p>"Today [June 29] is <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/first-phone-on-sale-ten-year-anniversary-2017-6">the 10th anniversary of the iPhone</a>. These things all fit in our hands and seem like they don't have a very big impact, because they're so small," said<span> Cook</span>. "But the impact is quite significant, both in terms of the chemicals used, the amount of energy that goes into manufacturing these products, the e-waste at the end-of-life ... And the repair-ability of the device ends up being critical."</p><p>In contrast to iPads and Mac Books, the iPhone 7 received a 7 out of 10. In recent years, Apple has designed its phones to be easier to open, Cook said.</p><p>Apple spokesperson Alisha Johnson told Business Insider that Apple is addressing the eco-waste problem. Customers can visit Apple stores for repairs, and the company launched a recycling program, called <a href="https://www.apple.com/recycling/">Apple Renew</a> in 2016, she said.</p><p>"<span style="font-weight: 400;">Highly-integrated design allows us to make products that are not only beautiful, thin and powerful, but also durable, so they can last for many years. When repairs are needed, authorized providers can ensure the quality, safety, and security of repairs for customers. And when products do reach end of life, Apple takes responsibility for recycling them safely and responsibly," Johnson said.</span> </p><p>"We're also pioneering a closed loop supply chain where products are made using only renewable resources or recycled material to reduce the need to mine materials from the earth."</p><p>Other tech products much higher than Apple devices. The Fairphone 2, known for its modular design, got a perfect score. Compared to the other phones, it has the most user-friendly battery, camera, screen, and microphone for replace-ability, since you don't need any tools to open it. The HP Elite x2 1012 G1 tablet and Dell Latitude E5270 laptop also scored a 10.</p><p>In 2014, over<span> </span><a href="http://i.unu.edu/media/ias.unu.edu-en/news/7916/Global-E-waste-Monitor-2014-small.pdf">40 million metric tons</a> worth of smartphones, tablets, and computers <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/photos-of-e-waste-in-developing-countries-2017-6">ended up in toxic landfills</a><span>.
