<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/35616432.cms" /> PC-maker <keyword id="28251" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dell">Dell</keyword> grew 25% in the Indian market in the first quarter of the current calendar year while other companies suffered a decline in sales. Shipments fell 25.2% year on year due to lack of demand. Dell grabbed a market share of 23.1%, as per the market research firm IDC, thus regaining its top position in the domestic <keyword id="6365259" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="PC">PC</keyword> market. The company grew 22.4% year-on-year in the commercial PC business. 
 <keyword id="6367983" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="HP">HP</keyword> came up second with a market share of 20.4%. 
 
PC shipments stood at 1.01 million units in the first quarter of CY2014, a decline of 4.3% sequentially over the first quarter of 2013. “Consumers’ sentiments plummeted further due to high inflation and soaring prices, owing to rupee fluctuations. Concerns over the economic conditions remained a key drag and Q1 was no different,” said Kiran Kumar, research manager (client devices) at IDC India. 
 “Part of Dell’s growth in the consumer business could also be attributed to its success in capturing the retail shelf space left vacant by <keyword id="6358540" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Sony">Sony</keyword> and <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword> in the past while others, including HP, have not been able to successfully replicate the same,” said Kumar. 
 
“Since the privatisation of the company in October, we have been extremely aggressive in terms of product launches and making our products available at different price points,” said P Krishnakumar, executive director and general manager (consumer and small business) at Dell India. 
 
The company has been focusing on small towns to grow its business. Dell opened 160 exclusive stores in 120 small towns over the past one year. It also started shipment within a day to 1,000 towns.

They have forged a strategic alliance to leverage each other's capabilities and build a next-generation <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=e-Commerce+">e-Commerce</a> platform for InMobi's customers. 
 According to the agreement, <keyword id="28251" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dell">Dell</keyword> will give <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=InMobi+">InMobi</a> access to its R&amp;D labs to build next-gen products. The computer maker, which has earlier worked with Bengaluru-based InMobi, will also offer some of its hand-picked products to InMobi for beta testing and customization. 
 
In turn, InMobi will help Dell draw insights into the needs of its largest customers on servers, networking and storage for high computing needs and big data requirements. 
 
The partnership comes a week after Dell's <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=CEO+Michael+Dell+">CEO Michael Dell</a> met InMobi founder <keyword id="272912" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Naveen-Tewari">Naveen Tewari</keyword> to discuss ways in which the two companies could help each other to build technology capabilities. Dell was on a two-day visit to India. 
 "We've enjoyed a very strong relationship with InMobi for a few years now — we, as a company, are very aligned to early engagements with startups and entrepreneurial initiatives and how we can add value to some of these new businesses that have come up," said Alok <keyword id="3054143" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Ohrie">Ohrie</keyword>, president and managing director of <keyword id="150673" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Dell-India">Dell India</keyword>. 
 
He said: "So far this relationship has been beneficial to both the parties. If you look at InMobi, they are in a space which is highly innovative and highly disruptive, and clearly their requirements and needs are unique to that extent...and that opens us huge amount opportunities to engage in a strategic way.” 
 
The alliance with InMobi comes at a time when Dell, which went private about two years back, is looking to engage with emerging early-stage <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=startups+">startups</a> and companies and tap into disruptive solutions, amid a large scale shift across the personal computing landscape. 
 
"We believe that this will help us build some of the more innovative and disruptive solutions that will be relevant in the ecommerce space and the web-tech space," said Ohrie. 
 
"As part of this alliance, we're committing a few things. Firstly, we're committing an exclusive access to our beta systems that they will get to use, get to deploy...which will allow them an early visibility of what's coming, and hopefully they'll be better prepared to take advantage of the platform as and when it will be ready for a formal launch. Secondly, they will have access to our labs through very clearly dedicated and defined sponsors," he said. 
 
The alliance will also see Dell's products being specifically tailored for InMobi's mobile advertising platforms, said Ohrie. 
 
"We've always been looking for a partner who can invest early and see the bigger picture on where it can head to, and I think Dell was very aggressive in that sense," said Mohit Saxena, co-founder and CTO of In-Mobi.

While the 7 and 8 run the <keyword id="6355645" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="android">Android</keyword> operating system the 8 Pro (and also the 11 Pro) comes with <keyword id="6354717" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Windows">Windows</keyword> 8 for PC’s operating system. 
 
Dell has been an active partner of Intel. They have been using their CPU’s and chipsets in many of their desktops and laptops. It made sense for them to again partner with the chip major for these devices. All of the Venue tablets are powered by Intel Atom processors, which gain more power as you go up in the series. 
 
The Venue 7 is available with 16 GB memory, 7-inch IPS HD touchscreen, 2GB RAM and 3 MP rear cam. The Venue 8 has two variants comprising of 16 and 32GB models. It has an 8-inch IPS HD touchscreen, 2 GB RAM and 5 MP rear cam. Both support memory expansion upto 32 GB. Dell also revealed that they will come with 3G versions of the tablets in the next couple of weeks. 
 The Venue 7 is <keyword id="459" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="price">price</keyword>d at Rs 10,999, which is the first from any multi-national. None of the international tablet makers are selling at this price point. Only the Indian ones are selling at this level. The Venue 8 is priced at Rs 17,499, while the Venue 8 Pro is priced at 26,499. The 8 pro and 11 Pro also come with 2 keyboard attachments — one that has an extra battery in it and the other flat one that does not.

The Dell employee had returned from the US, including a visit to Texas while the Mindtree employee also had a travel history abroad, the two companies said in separate statements. "We can confirm two employees of Dell India were tested for the COVID-19 virus following their return home from the United States - including a visit to our headquarters in Round Rock, Texas. One employee tested negative; another tested positive and has since been placed in quarantine," Dell Technologies said. The company said it continues to take steps to protect Dell Technologies team members and communities by adhering to the health and safety guidelines from the World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control, and coordinating with local health officials. Mindtree said that one of its employees returning from an overseas trip tested positive for COVID-19 on March 10, 2020. "The employee along with his family members are under quarantine and medical supervision. All measures are being taken to provide the best of medical care to him and his family. The employee self-isolated himself upon return from the trip and did not visit the office or meet any other Mindtree colleagues," the company added. Mindtree said it has been consciously taking precautions across its operations to fight any untoward incident with its employees. Meanwhile, Accenture is also learnt to have closed a floor in its Pune office after a suspected coronavirus case. One of the company's employees has been tested for coronavirus infection and the result is awaited. Email sent to Accenture did not elicit any reply.

Dell, the multinational computer technology company from America, is willing to use India as a manufacturing hub for its exports to South Asia; however, it wants a more helpful set of rules and regulations to do so, said its global CFO Thomas W Sweet. 
 
Sweet was in India for a short trip and also met India’s finance minister Arun Jaitley. In an interaction with <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/hardware/with-right-rules-dell-ready-to-make-and-ship-from-india-cfo-thomas-w-sweet/articleshow/53715371.cms">ET</a>, he said that recent changes to India’s duty structure have definitely helped <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Dell-is-selling-a-5-billion-part-of-its-business-to-help-fund-a-67-billion-megadeal/articleshow/50187819.cms">Dell </a>increase its production from its <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Dell-is-very-happy-about-Modis-Make-in-India-says-it-has-great-plans-of-its-own-for-India/articleshow/48866780.cms">India plant</a>; however, for exporting, it would require more from the government.

"There is a lot of opportunity for India to be a great domestic market for technology consumption, but there is also a great opportunity for it to be an exporter of technology," said Sweet. 
 
For <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/More-money-is-going-to-pour-into-Indian-startups-as-Dells-300-million-venture-fund-eyes-India/articleshow/49945280.cms">Dell</a>, India’s market is "growing very nicely", but can perform even better as a regional manufacturing hub, however, that "takes times, takes the right set of policies to enable this." 
 
About his meeting with the FM, he said, "Our conversations are in line with what the government has been saying...that part of being a global economy is being both a domestic consumption economy and an exporter. So we think there is an opportunity (to export) at an appropriate time, when policies and framework that encourage that kind of economic activity." 
 
However, he added that he doesn’t expect things to change overnight. 
 
"There is a lot on the government's plate right now with GST, etc. But over time making sure that the framework around how you treat exporters and the exporters make sense, is important to us."

Dell is ready to ‘Make in India’ but with some changes in rules

	 Tech major <keyword id="28251" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dell">Dell</keyword> aims to double its market share in the domestic all-in-one PC category in the next one year. At present, the company enjoys 15%. 
	 
	According to an ET report, Dell today launched its new portable AIO at Rs 36,990. 
	 "In the last few months, we have introduced models in the category and now we have four AIO models in our portfolio. We are aiming to double our market share from 14%-15% currently over the next 12 months," Dell India Vice-president Consumer &amp; Small Business <keyword id="1006936" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="P-Krishnakumar">P Krishnakumar</keyword> said in the report. 
	 
	At present, other big players include HP and Lenovo. "The AIO category is growing at a strong pace of 60%-70% at about 50,000 units a quarter. Now, with a portfolio of products, we can compete more aggressively in the segment," he said. 
	 
	It should be noted that PC shipments touched 9.6 million units in 2014, down 16.5% compared to 2013, according to research firm IDC. 
	"As India moves towards a much-awaited digital transformation, our focus rests on driving awareness and access to technology which we believe is imperative to building a 'Skill India'," Krishnakumar noted. 
	 The IDC has projected that the overall <keyword id="28355" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PC-market">PC market</keyword> in the country will grow in FY16 unlike last year as it is being driven by special education projects and improving business environment for the enterprise segment. 
	 
	"As India moves towards a much-awaited digital transformation, our focus rests on driving awareness and access to technology which we believe is imperative to building a 'Skill India'," Krishnakumar said.
