One QR code per passenger will be printed/ available in the Electronic Reservation Slip of IRCTC. Currently, single-journey tickets for Delhi Metro can only be booked on the day of travel with same-day validity. With this facility, the DMRC-IRCTC QR code-based tickets will be synchronized with Indian Railways' Advance Reservation Period (ARP) allowing passengers to book even Metro tickets up to 120 days in advance. Further, the metro tickets will be valid for a single journey for four days starting from the day before the DMRC journey date, the travel date itself, and two days after the journey date. This joint initiative will enhance the travel experience of Railway passengers by allowing them to book Delhi Metro Tickets at the rail ticket confirmation page clubbing it either with the source or destination station falling in the Delhi/NCR region. EC is embarking on innovative ICT mobile technologies to conduct the 2020 Delhi election <ul><li>Reducing the polling time</li></ul>The Election Commission of India will use ICT Mobile technologies to perform the search of voters by Polling Staff, which is expected to reduce the polling time significantly. <ul><li>Marking voter attendance</li></ul>Voter attendance will be marked with the help of a new mobile technology that will process the data offline. The pre-printed booth slip with the unique QR code will be scanned at the polling booth to mark the elector’s attendance for the voting. Delhi Election: EC implements new technologies to ensure faster voter verification

<ul><li>The verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) will be making its national debut at the upcoming general elections in India.</li><li>The VVPAT system was introduced after the Delhi High Court ruled in 2012 that electronic voting machines (EVMs) are not completely tamper-proof.</li><li>The EVMs have also been upgraded for the 2019 general elections to the 'M3' third generation models.</li></ul>While electronic voting machines (EVMs) were introduced to the Indian electoral process in 1989, the verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) will make its debut during the general elections this year. The idea is simple — in order to improve upon the transparency during the voting process, using the VVPAT will allow users to verify that their vote was cast as intended. The new method of vote verification was brought into play after the Delhi High Court <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/EVMs-not-tamper-proof-but-no-paper-trail-Delhi-HC/articleshow/11522072.cms?referral=PM">ruled</a> in 2012 that EVMs are not "tamper-proof." And, even though the court did not direct the Election Commission (EC) to incorporate a paper trail to record the votes, it did suggest that some mechanism should be put in place in order to put doubts to rest. And then in 2013, came the Supreme Court <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/New-EVMs-to-have-paper-trail/articleshow/11561762.cms?referral=PM">verdict</a> that the EC should employ the VVPAT system so that there would be a way to audit the electronic results. How does VVPAT work? Before casting their ballot, voters should <a href="https://eci.gov.in/files/file/9230-manual-on-electronic-voting-machine-and-vvpat/">check</a> the LED power light on the EVM is green. That means the machine is not busy and ready to record the vote. It's once you've cast your vote, there should a 'beep' to confirm that the vote has been recorded by the machine. The VVPAT will then provide visual verification by printing the serial number, name and party symbol of the candidate that was voted for along with the serial number of the VVPAT unit and the poll session number on a receipt. The display window where the information will appear is sealed, so voters can't physically touch the receipt. And normally, when the machine is not in use, the items behind the window aren't visible and the window appears black. So, it's only when a vote is cast on the EVM, that the light within the viewing window comes on, but only for seven seconds. In that time frame, voters will have to verify that the details are correct before the slip gets cut and falls into the a seal drop box within the VVPAT. According to the EC, the VVPAT can only be attached to the EVM — in fact, it only has the one port — in order to register votes. Since the print runs on a battery pack, like the EVM, it's not dependent on electricity to operate.

 Even the EVMs are being upgraded to a third generation 'M3' machines, which are said to be tamper proof and have a self-diagnostic system to authenticate whether a machine is genuine or not, according to the EC. "Each EVM can record a button being pressed only after every 12 seconds. If buttons are pressed more often, the EVM will not record any vote. In any 'booth capture' situation, it would take nearly three and a half hours to press the buttons 1,000 times (the typical number of votes for any EVM) and even that assumes the buttons would be pressed rapidly, every 12 seconds exactly. EVMs are simply not a feasible or efficient way to carry out electoral fraud," veteran psephologists Prannoy Roy and Dorab Sopariwala wrote in their book 'The Verdict', released on March 15. Mock polls are conducted to ensure that the machines are in optimal working condition and the machines are alloted to the polling booths through an elaborate randomization process so that nobody knows which machine will be at which polling booth until the very last moment. The introduction of the VVPAT system should, ideally, serve as a reassurance for those who fear EVM tampering by political parties. Even though the EC maintains that the EVMs can't be "<a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/electronic-voting-machine-tampering-accusations-in-up-local-body-polls-1779349">tinkered</a>" with in any way, there were allegations during the Uttar Pradesh bypolls in May 2018 where voters and some candidates claimed that no matter which button was pressed on the machine, the EVM registered the vote in favour of the BJP. Here’s what Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission’s scan and share OPD registration service means—how to avail its benefits

New Delhi, Jan 17 () Aadhaar will be required for getting benefits under a central government scheme for providing financial assistance to family members of victims of violence perpetrated by terrorists or naxals, and communal riots.
 In a notification, the Union Home Ministry said an eligible beneficiary desirous of receiving the benefit under the 'Central Scheme for Assistance to Civilian Victims/Family of Victims of Terrorist/Communal/LWE Violence and Cross Border Firing and Mine/IED Blasts on Indian Territory' is required to furnish proof of possession of Aadhaar number or undergo Aadhaar authentication.
 Any eligible beneficiary desirous of receiving benefit under the scheme, who does not possess the Aadhaar number or, has not yet enrolled for Aadhaar, shall have to apply for Aadhaar enrolment.
 The home ministry said the notification comes into effect in all states and union territories except Assam and Meghalaya, where Aadhaar has not covered all residents.
 "The assistance is given by the state governments and the home ministry reimburses the state governments when it gets their demand. The annual budget for the scheme is broadly in the range of Rs 6 to 7 crore," a senior home ministry official said.
 The notification said the ministry through the implementing agency is required to offer Aadhaar enrolment facilities for the eligible beneficiary, who is not yet enrolled for Aadhaar and in case there is no Aadhaar enrolment centre located in the respective Block or Taluka or Tehsil.
 Till the time Aadhaar is assigned to the beneficiary, benefit under the scheme shall be given to such beneficiary subject to the production of the Aadhaar enrolment identification slip if he or she has enrolled and any one of the following: bank or post office passbook with photo; or voter identification card; or PAN card; or ration card; or passport; or kisan photo passbook; or driving licence or certificate of identity having photo of such person issued by a gazetted officer or a tehsildar on an official letter head; or Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme Job Card; or any other document as specified by the ministry.
 In order to provide convenient and hassle free benefit to the beneficiary under the scheme, the ministry through the implementing agency or other means shall make all the required arrangements to ensure that wide publicity through media is given to the beneficiary to make them aware of the requirement of Aadhaar under the scheme.
 In all cases, where Aadhaar authentication fails due to poor biometrics of the beneficiary or due to any other reason, the following remedial mechanisms shall be adopted.
 In case of poor fingerprint quality, IRIS scan or face authentication facility shall be adopted for authentication, thereby the ministry through the implementing agency shall make provisions for IRIS scanners or face authentication along with fingerprint authentication for delivery of benefits in seamless manner.
 In case of biometric authentication through fingerprints or IRIS or face authentication is not successful, wherever feasible and admissible authentication by Aadhaar One Time Password (OTP) or Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) with limited time validity, as the case may be, shall be offered.
 In all other cases where biometric or OTP or TOTP authentication is not possible, benefit may be given on the basis of physical Aadhaar letter whose authenticity can be verified through the QR code printed on the Aadhaar letter and the necessary arrangement of QR code reader shall be provided at the convenient locations by the ministry through the implementing agency. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been pushing for simultaneous elections for both state and central legislatures, but the proposal has faced severe political opposition. Nearly 900 million voters are expected to turn out this year, compared to 814.5 million in 2014. The number of polling stations will be increased from 900,000 in 2014 to 1 million this year. 16 million new voters will be between the age of 18 and 19, compared to 23.1 million in 2014. 1.7 million voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines will be in use after a <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/elections/story/the-many-claims-of-evm-tampering-in-india-1435638-2019-01-21" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">series</a> of allegations of foul play in many state polls in the run up to the general elections in 2019. VVPAT is a second line of independent verification via a printer machine, which is attached to electronic voting machines. When a voter presses the button against the party symbol of their choice on the electronic voting machine (EVM), a paper slip is printed through VVPAT. The slip would contain the poll symbol and name of the candidate and allows voters to verify if their vote has gone to the intended candidate. After the voter views the slip, that slip will be dropped inside a sealed box linked to the EVM. "The Model Code of Conduct comes into effect from today itself in the entire country.
