Delhi records 13,00 new COVID-19 cases

During the past one day, Brazil recorded 31,359 <keyword id="8956138" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-covid-19-cases">new Covid-19 cases</keyword>, while US logged 34,282. Besides this, India, which now recorded an all time high of 1,03,558 new cases, has also surpassed Brazil's average tally of 64,324 and the US's 64,019 to become the biggest hotspot. It is now recording an average of 78,489 Covid-19 cases per day, based on a 7-day moving average to visualise the number of new Covid-19 cases and calculate the rate of change. Notably, India, which is witnessing the second wave of the pandemic, added 5,49,423 Covid-19 cases over the last week, while US and Brazil logged 4,42,981 and 4,50,268 cases, respectively. Daily cases in India had peaked on September 16 last year, with 97,894 people testing positive for the virus in a single day. India has become the second country in the world, after the US, to add more than 1,00,000 cases in a single day at any time during the pandemic. India surpasses Brazil and US, becomes the country with highest daily COVID-19 cases in the world

(Eds: adding details of cases in states) New Delhi, July 15 () India saw a record single-day jump of 29,429 COVID-19 cases pushing its tally to 9,36,181 on Wednesday, while the death toll climbed to 24,309 with 582 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data. This is the fourth consecutive day that COVID-19 cases have increased by more than 28,000. The number of recoveries stands at 5,92,031, while there are 3,19,840 active cases of coronavirus infection presently in the country, the updated data at 8 am showed. "Thus, around 63.24 per cent of patients have recovered so far," an official said. The total number of confirmed cases include foreigners. It took 110 days for coronavirus infections in the country to reach the one-lakh, while just 49 days more to go past the seven-lakh mark. This is the fifth consecutive day that COVID-19 cases have increased by more than 20,000. The country's coronavirus infection caseload increased to 7,19,665 on Tuesday, while the death toll climbed to 20,160 with 467 persons succumbing to the disease in the last 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed. The number of recoveries stands at 4,39,947, while there are 2,59,557 active cases of coronavirus infection presently in the country. "Thus, around 61.13 per cent of patients have recovered so far," an official said. The total number of confirmed cases included foreigners. According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 1,02,11,092 samples have been tested up to July 6 with 2,41,430 samples being tested on Monday. Of the 2,003 new deaths, Maharashtra accounted for the highest 1,409 fatalities taking its COVID-19 death tally to 5,537, while coronavirus deaths in Delhi surged by 437 taking its toll to 1,837, according to the official data updated at 8 am. "The sudden surge in deaths is based on entry of data by the states. Maharashtra and Delhi have reconciled data from previous days," a Health Ministry official said. Besides, Tamil Nadu has reported 49 deaths followed by Gujarat at 28, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana at 18 each, Madhya Pradesh 11, West Bengal 10, Rajasthan 7, Karnataka 5 and Telangana 4. India records highest-ever spike of 2,003 COVID-19 deaths

New Delhi, Jun 26 () No COVID-19 death has been reported from Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim so far, and the number of cases in the northeastern region was comparatively lower than the rest of the country, the government said on Friday. It also said that lack of testing facilities and dedicated COVID-19 hospitals had initially hampered the fight against the dreaded virus in the eight northeastern states, but the infrastructure has been bolstered since then. As on date, the number of recoveries at 5,715 exceed the active cases which stand at 3,731. The death toll in the entire region is 12, the Union health ministry said. The fight against the pandemic across the country has been a concerted and collective endeavour and the Centre has pro-actively and strongly supported the strengthening of the medical care infrastructure in the northeastern states to fight COVID-19, it said. "A critical pillar which hampered the efforts of the northeastern states in combating the COVID-19 outbreak was complete lack of testing facilities. But today, because of the focussed attention of the Centre through the Health Ministry, the region has 39 testing labs in the public sector and three in the private sector, totalling to 42 laboratories," the ministry said. Assam has 10 public and two private laboratories, while Meghalaya has six public and one private lab. Nagaland has 13 testing labs, Arunachal Pradesh three, Manipur, Mizoram and Sikkim two each, and Tripura one public laboratory for COVID-19 testing. "The NE states also suffered from an acute lack of dedicated COVID-19 hospitals, COVID Health Centres and COVID Care Centres (DCCC). With the help of the Centre, the healthcare infrastructure across all the eight states has been substantially supplemented," the ministry said. It now has 1,518 COVID-19 dedicated health facilities, including 60 hospitals, 360, health centres, and care centres. "The central government has supported the eight states in stepping up the number of ICU beds, isolation beds, oxygen-supported beds and ventilators. This has played a critical role in effective clinical management of COVID-19 cases," the health ministry said. Assam has 67,833 isolation, 1,841 oxygen-supported and 598 ICU beds, and 350 ventilators. Arunachal Pradesh has 1,998 isolation, 178 oxygen-supported, and 60 ICU beds, and 16 ventilators. There are 1,231 isolation, 345 oxygen-supported and 83 ICU beds, and 95 ventilators in Meghalaya, 681 isolation, 142 oxygen-supported, 54 ICU beds and 28 ventilators in Nagaland, and 251 isolation, 224 oxygen-supported, 20 ICU beds and 59 ventilators in Sikkim. Tripura has 1,277 isolation, 10 oxygen-supported, 13 ICU beds and seven ventilators. Manipur has availability of 829 isolation, 317 oxygen supported and 48 ICU beds and 45 ventilators while Mizoram has 709 isolation, 213 oxygen-supported and 37 ICU beds, and 27 ventilators. The Centre has also strongly supported the NE states to step up the availability of N95 masks, PPE kits and hydroxychloroquine tablets. So far, 1.21 lakh N95 masks, 0.66 lakh PPE kits and 1.5 lakh hydroxychloroquine tablets have been distributed in Arunachal Pradesh, 3.37 lakh N95 masks, 2.01 lakh kits and 6.7 lakh HCQ tablets in Assam, 0.95 lakh N95 masks, 0.79 lakh PPE kits and 2.7 lakh HCQ tablets have been distributed in Manipur. Meghalaya has been given 0.75 lakh N95 masks, 0.52 lakh PPE kits and 1.75 lakh hydroxychloroquine tablets, 0.76 lakh N95 masks, 0.31 lakh PPE kits and 2.2 lakh HCQ tablets have been distributed in Mizoram, while Nagaland has been provided 0.7 lakh N95 masks, 0.25 lakh PPE kits and 1.75 lakh hydroxychloroquine tablets. So far, 0.80 lakh N95 masks, 0.52 lakh PPE kits and 0.25 lakh HCQ tablets have been distributed in Sikkim while 1.38 lakh N95 masks, 1.13 lakh PPE kits and 2.5 lakh hydroxychloroquine tablets have been provided to Tripura. As on date, Arunachal Pradesh has 121 active coronavirus cases while 38 have recovered. The state reported its first COVID-19 fatality on Friday. Assam has 2,279 active cases, 4,033 patients have recovered while nine persons have succumbed to the infection. Manipur presently has 702 active cases with 354 recoveries. Death toll due to COVID-19 rises to 2,649; cases climb to 81,970: Health Ministry

(Eds: With additional inputs) New Delhi, July 4 () With 22,771 people testing positive for the novel coronavirus in a day, the highest so far, India's COVID-19 tally climbed to 6,48,315 on Saturday, while the death toll rose to 18,655 with 442 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry's data. With a steady rise, the number of recoveries stands at 3,94,226 with 14,335 COVID-19 patients having been cured in the last 24 hours, according to the updated data at 8 am. The number of recovered patients exceeded the active cases by 1,58,793 as of Saturday. There are 2,35,433 active cases of COVID-19 presently in the country, the data showed. "The recovery rate has further increased to 60.81 per cent," the Union Health Ministry said. The total number of confirmed cases also include foreigners. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative total of 95,40,132 samples have been tested up to July 3 with 2,42,383 samples being tested on Friday. "The efforts to expand the testing labs network in the country have led to their numbers increasing every day. There are as many as 1,087 labs in the country -- 780 labs in the government sector and 307 private labs. "Facilitation of widespread testing by States/UTs has spurred the number of samples tested every day," the health ministry said. This is the second consecutive day when coronavirus cases have increased by more than 20,000. There has been a surge of 4,57,780 COVID-19 cases from June 1 till date. (Eds: Adds details) New Delhi, Jun 17 () India registered the highest-ever single-day spike of 2,003 COVID-19 fatalities on Wednesday, pushing the death toll due to the disease to 11,903 in the country, after Maharashtra and Delhi added deaths that occurred earlier but were not attributed to the coronavirus. The country's COVID-19 caseload rose to 3,54,065 with 10,974 new infections reported in the last 24 hours. Of the 2,003 new deaths, Maharashtra accounted for the maximum of 1,409, taking its COVID-19 death toll to 5,537, while coronavirus deaths in Delhi surged by 437, taking its toll to 1,837, according to the health ministry data updated at 8 am. "The sudden surge in deaths is based on entry of data by the states. Maharashtra and Delhi have reconciled data from previous days," a health ministry official said. Besides, Tamil Nadu has reported 49 deaths, followed by Gujarat (28), Uttar Pradesh and Haryana (18 each), Madhya Pradesh (11), West Bengal (10), Rajasthan (seven), Karnataka (five) and Telangana (four). Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Punjab, Puducherry and Uttarakhand have reported a fatality each in the last 24 hours. (Eds: Adding details) New Delhi, Jul 15 () Private sector Bandhan Bank on Wednesday reported nearly 32 per cent decline in net profit to Rs 549.82 crore for April-June quarter of the current fiscal, mainly due to additional provisioning in the wake of COVID-19. The Kolkata-headquartered lender had posted a net profit of Rs 803.62 crore in the corresponding quarter previous fiscal. Sequentially, the profit in June quarter FY21 was higher, compared to Rs 517.28 crore in March 2020 quarter. The bank's provision for bad loans and contingencies jumped multi-fold to Rs 849.06 crore for April-June quarter as against Rs 125.36 crore parked aside for the same quarter in FY20, it said in a regulatory filing. Total income of the bank increased to Rs 3,404.84 crore over Rs 2,962.33 crore in the year-ago period on the back of healthy interest income. Interest income of the lender jumped to Rs 3,018.09 crore from Rs 2,631.30 crore. On the asset quality front, the lender witnessed improvement as the gross non-performing assets (NPAs) fell to 1.43 per cent of the gross advances by end of June 2020, from 1.70 per cent in the same month of 2019. In absolute value, the gross NPAs or bad loans stood at Rs 1,006.67 crore as against Rs 1,019.70 crore. Likewise, the net NPAs came down to 0.48 per cent (Rs 335.77 crore) from 0.59 per cent (Rs 347.50 crore). The merger of erstwhile Gruh Finance Limited (Gruh) with Bandhan Bank Limited had been approved by the Reserve Bank of India, Competition Commission of India, stock exchanges, respective shareholders and creditors of each entities as applicable and the National Company Law Tribunals (NCLT) Bench at Kolkata and Ahmedabad, with appointed date as January 1, 2019 and effective date as October 17, 2019, it said in the filing. "In view of the amalgamation, the figures for the quarter ended June 30, 2019 have been arrived on the basis of aggregation of the separate results of the bank and Gruh for the said period, published earlier, i.e. prior to the effective date of amalgamation," it added. Bandhan Bank said its deposit increased by 35.30 per cent year-on-year to Rs 60,610 crore. Accelerated additional provision on standard advances amounting to Rs 750 crore taken for COVID-19 to further strengthen the balance sheet, it said. "With this provision and additional standard assets provision that bank is carrying in micro banking portfolio total additional provision in books stands at Rs 1,769 crore." Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Managing Director and CEO of Bandhan Bank said: "During the quarter, we have started collections post unlocking announced by the government. Overall bank collections improved to 76 per cent by end of June 2020 compared to 29 per cent in April 2020. "We continued to showcase the strengths of our retail deposit franchise with strong growth of 35 per cent during this difficult time, especially CASA (current account savings account) growing by over 47 per cent." Also, the lender added 2.13 lakh customers during the quarter with total customer base at 2.03 crore as on June 30, 2020. As on June 30, 2020, the total number of branches, banking units and ATM network stood at 1,018, 3,541 and 485 respectively, the bank said. Bandhan Bank Q1 net profit falls 32 pc to Rs 550 cr on higher provisioning

New Delhi, May 7 () RBL Bank on Thursday reported a 54 per cent decline in its net profit to Rs 114 crore for the March 2020 quarter, as the provisioning for bad loans spiked manyfold. The private sector lender had registered a net profit of Rs 247 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year. Sequentially, the bank posted a net profit of Rs 70 crore in the third quarter ended December 2019. Its total net income, however, grew 33 per cent to Rs 1,522 crore in the January-March 2020 period, from Rs 1,148 crore earned in the corresponding period of 2018-19, RBL Bank said in a regulatory filing. The bank's net interest income jumped 38 per cent to Rs 1,021 crore, compared with Rs 739 crore a year ago. The net interest margin (NIM), which is the difference between interest earned and expended, was at a new all-time high of 4.93 per cent in fourth quarter of 2019-20, a rise of 42 basis points as against 4.56 per cent in the year-ago quarter. For the full year 2019-20, the lender posted a fall of 42 per cent in its net profit to Rs 506 crore as against Rs 867 crore. Income, however, jumped by 39 per cent to Rs 5,540 crore from Rs 3,982 crore. The bank's net advances at the end of March 2020 grew by a modest 7 per cent to Rs 58,019 crore, whereas deposits fell 1 per cent to Rs 57,812 crore. Sequentially, both the advances and deposits were down by 3 per cent and 8 per cent, respectively. Its asset quality showed deterioration with gross non-performing assets (NPAs) rising to 3.62 per cent of the gross advances by the end of March 2020, from 1.38 per cent a year ago. Net NPAs also spiked to 2.05 per cent from 0.69 per cent. During the quarter under review, bad loan provisioning and contingencies were raised manyfold to Rs 614.08 crore as compared with Rs 199.97 crore in the year-ago period. The board of directors at its meeting on March 17 approved an interim dividend of Rs 1.50 per share for the current year. In the previous year, full and final dividend was Rs 2.70 per share. The bank did not declare final dividend for the current financial year pursuant to the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) circular in April 2020 directing all banks not to make any further dividend pay-outs from the profits pertaining to the financial year ended March 31, 2020, until further instructions, it said. On COVID-19, it said the extent to which the pandemic will impact the bank's provision on assets will depend on future developments, which are highly uncertain, including new information concerning the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic and any action to contain its spread or mitigate its impact whether mandated by external authorities or by the bank. As per the RBI, the bank is granting a three-month moratorium on equated-monthly instalments to all eligible borrowers for the March 1-May 31 period, it added. The bank reiterated that it is well capitalised with has sound liquidity. "Overall capital adequacy at 16.45 per cent with common equity tier-1 ratio of 15.33 per cent at the end of FY20 and average liquidity coverage ratio is at 161 per cent for Q4FY20," RBL Bank said.
