New Delhi, Nov 19 () Bank of Baroda on Tuesday said the RBI has imposed Rs 2.50 crore fine for non-compliance of directions issued to it with regard to Bihar-based NGO Srijan Mahila Vikas Sahyog Samiti Ltd.
"The Reserve Bank of India in exercise of powers conferred under the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, has imposed a penalty aggregating to Rs 2.50 crore on the bank for non-compliance with the directions issued by the RBI in various accounts of Srijan Mahila Vikas Sahyog Samiti Ltd at Bhagalpur Branch," Bank of Baroda said in a regulatory filing.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing the matter in the Rs 1,000 crore scam allegedly involving Bihar-based NGO Srijan Mahila Vikas Sahyog Samiti and government officers.
Unidentified officers of Bank of Baroda, Indian Bank and the 'Samiti' have been named as accused in the FIRs registered for alleged criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery among others.
Besides, FIRs have also been registered in Patna and Delhi.
It is alleged that there was illegal transfer and misuse of funds from government accounts in Bhagalpur district to accounts of the Samiti through a conspiracy hatched between government officials and office bearers of the NGO.
It is alleged that the NGO, which was working towards imparting training to women, had pilfered government funds in connivance with the bank officials and state government officials between 2003 and 2014.
As per initial probe by local police, the Samiti allegedly procured cheque books from banks and forged signature of the district magistrate to transfer government funds to its account. KPM BAL

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=new+delhi">New Delhi</a>, the capital of India boasts of a vast slum population also regarded as one of the most neglected sections of the society. 
 
The children however are the worst victims of the prevalent rampant ills, such as child-marriage, abuse and police brutality. 
 
But despite these tough conditions and poverty, there are an ample number of children who want their life to be more than just this- they want it to have a purpose. They want the world to hear their voice. 
 
And, in 2003 the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ngo">NGO</a> Chetna brought these children together and launched <keyword id="1663733" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Balaknama">Balaknama</keyword> (voice of children), a quarterly <keyword id="6393964" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="newspaper">newspaper</keyword> that talks about the issues faced by children who earn money begging, doing menial jobs and rag picking with 35 reporters in New Delhi in 2003. 
 
Now, it has spread to seven cities, with almost 10,000 children working as journalists and writers for the publication. Tens of thousands make up the readership for Balaknama. 
 Eighteen-year-old Chandni is the editor of the newspaper and she holds editorial meetings twice every month. In total, there are 14 reporters, all of whom are either <keyword id="6406617" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Street-children">street children</keyword> or have worked as child labourers in Delhi and neighbouring states. They track Delhi and neighbouring states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. 
 
Thanks to the NGO, Chandni was able to join a school and did not have to go back to her previous life of street-performing and rag-picking. Chetna's outreach program also gave her a stipend to and trained her in reporting. 
 
 
 
"I am very proud of editing this paper because it's one of its kind in India. Children whose childhood have been robbed, have gone hungry, begged, been abused and forced to work, write about other children who are going through similar tribulations," Chadni adds. 
 
Most of Balaknama's stories deal with the lives of street children - of employers mistreating their maids, police harrasing children at railway stations - interspersed with stories of hope. 
 
Like 17-year-old Vikas Kumar put it- the idea is to get everyone to treat street kids as equal citizens and get their voice heard. 
 
"If a Bollywood actor's dog gets hurt, it will be breaking news and will be covered by all newspapers and channels in India. But when a street kid dies on a railway platform or in an accident, no one seems to care,” he said to Al Jazeera. 
 
Vikas ran away from his home at nine when he couldn’t take the wrath of his abusive parents any longer. For the next few years, he worked as a rag-picker at a train station and also fought drug addiction, coming out clean and ending up as a reporter for Balaknama. 
 
Lucky for them, the circulation of the newspaper has gone up from 4,000 to 5,500 copies in the past one year. We hope that these kinds continue to make a difference and create awareness 
 
The newspaper is financed and published by the NGO and has been priced at two rupees.

Girls being the staunch bearers of the society need to be educated, so that they can educate their family and the society,” believes <keyword id="3164478" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Nirmala-Tandon">Nirmala Tandon</keyword>, the CEO of Gurgaon-based non-profit organization <keyword id="1938562" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="IIMPACT">IIMPACT</keyword>. 
 
Present in 11 states, with over 30 learning centres, IIMPACT has been working towards providing quality <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=primary+education">primary education</a> to the <keyword id="6366837" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="girl-child">girl child</keyword> in remote communities since 2003.

 This is where Mumbai-based cycling enthusiast and Microsoft employee <keyword id="2610228" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jasmeet-Singh-Gandhi">Jasmeet Singh Gandhi</keyword> came in. 
 
In a bid to raise funds for supporting the cause of girl child education, Gandhi, a strong supporter of the cause himself has undertaken the Umeed 1000 Cyclothon 2015 and is<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=cycling"> cycling</a> 1000 kilometres spanning the distance between Mumbai to Delhi with the aim to complete it in 10 days. 
 
 
 
Gandhi started his cycling odyssey from Mumbai on 7th December and will pass through Vapi, Surat, Vadodra, Ahmedabad, Himmatnagar, Udaipur, Ajmer, Jaipur, Gurgaon before finally making it to Delhi on the 17th December. 
 
Gandhi however is not new to undertaken expeditions such as this. Last year, he cycled from Mumbai to Bangalore for raising money for eye-cancer patients. And, this year, he aims to guarantee the education of a girl child, through the power of his cycle. 
 
“It takes Rs 3,000 a year to educate a child. My mission is to raise funds to support 1,000 children," said Gandhi, who will have a medical support team travelling with him. 
 
Along his way, Gandhi will also participate in various events to help raise awareness and educate people on the importance of basic education for girls. 
 
The event is being sponsored by RBL bank and according to Shanta Vallury Gandhi, Head Human Resources, CSR and Internal Branding at RBL Bank, the reason for their tie-up with IIMPACT is because women empowerment and education is one of the core pillars of RBL Bank's CSR programme. 
"While IIMPACT is run by professionals it is run for charity. They have been instrumental in brightening the lives of many children by providing educational opportunities to girls, from socially and economically disadvantaged communities of India. When you educate a girl, you educate a nation and this is very much part of our ethos. We are particularly happy to partner with IIMPACT for this noble initiative as it fits in well with the DNA of our organization," she added.
