Agniveer <keyword id="22254636" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="akshay-gawate" source="keywords">Akshay Gawate</keyword>, native of Pimpalgaon Sarai in Maharashtra's Buldhana district, died in the line of duty in Siachen on October 21, 2023. Speaking to reporters here on Monday evening, his father Lakshman Gawate said that after Akshay Gawate's death, the family got "Rs 48 lakh as his insurance cover, Rs 50 lakh from the central government and Rs 10 lakh from the state government." He also demanded a government job for Akshay's sister. He was reply to a question by reporters on the compensation received after his son's death. The Agnipath scheme, announced on June 14, 2022, provides for the recruitment of youths between the age bracket of 17-and-half years and 21 for only four years, with a provision to retain 25 per cent of them for 15 more years. The government extended the upper age limit to 23 years later that year.

The report noted that the growth of domestic defence manufacturing in the country has picked up significantly over the last few years and is expected to grow further in the future. It added that the government's focus on enhancing domestic capabilities is evident from its initiatives in FY24, where Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) was accorded to proposals worth approximately Rs 3.61 trillion under various capital procurement categories. These initiatives are in line with the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020, which strongly promotes domestic manufacturing. "The government, in FY24, accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) to proposals worth approximately INR 3.61 trn under various categories of capital procurement, which promotes domestic manufacturing as per DAP-2020" said the report. A significant milestone highlighted in the report is the remarkable increase in the share of domestic procurement in India's defence sector. The share has improved from 54 per cent in FY19 to 75 per cent in FY24. The report noted that this trend is expected to strengthen further, driven by the fact that more than 99 per cent of the announced proposals are to be sourced from the domestic industry under the "Buy (Indian)" and "Buy (Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured)" categories. "The total share of domestic procurement has seen a phenomenal improvement from 54% in FY19 to 75% in FY24 and is expected to improve further. The report stated that the DAC's (Defence Acquisition Council) approval of proposals worth Rs 1.45 trillion is aimed at enhancing the operational capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces. The report further emphasizes that with Rs 1.45 trillion worth of projects already approved in the year-to-date FY25, the <keyword id="20994345" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="defence-PSUs" source="keywords">defence PSUs</keyword> are poised for strong growth in the near to long term. "With approval for Rs 1.45 trn worth of projects in YTDFY25, we believe defence PSUs have strong growth opportunities in the near to long term" the report added. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for 10 capital acquisition proposals amounting to Rs 1,44,716 crore. Of the total cost of AoNs, 99 per cent is from Indigenous sources under the Buy (Indian) and Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) categories, the Ministry of Defence stated. For the modernisation of the tank fleet of the Indian Army, the proposal for procurement of Future Ready Combat Vehicles (FRCVs) has been cleared. The FRCV will be a futuristic Main Battle Tank with superior mobility, all-terrain ability, multilayered protections, precision and lethal fires over and real-time situational awareness, the release stated. The AoN was also accorded for procurement of Air Defence Fire Control Radars, which will detect and track aerial targets and provide firing solutions. The proposal has also been approved for Forward Repair Team (Tracked) which has suitable cross-country mobility for carrying out in-situ repair during mechanised operations.

The Defence Minister also urged the domestic industry and foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers to invest in Indian defence sector by focusing on R&amp;D, bringing in newer technologies and capital. He added that India is making defence products not just for the domestic market but also to meet the global requirements. "The world is waiting for the products made in India," he claimed. Govt committed to achieving defence production target of $22 bn by 2025: Rajnath

The Ballistic missile 'Agni Prime' was tested from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. During the flight test, all objectives were successfully demonstrated, a defence ministry official said on Thursday. According to the Ministry, this was the first pre-induction night launch conducted by the users after three successful developmental trials of the missile, validating the accuracy and reliability of the system. The test was conducted in the night hours of June 7. Range Instrumentation like Radar, Telemetry and Electro-Optical Tracking Systems were deployed at different locations, including two down-range ships, at the terminal point to capture flight data covering the entire trajectory of the vehicle, the ministry added. Senior officials from DRDO and Strategic Forces Command witnessed the successful flight-test, which paved the way for induction of the system into the <keyword id="3790" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="armed-forces" source="Orion">Armed Forces</keyword>. India successfully fight tests 'Agni Prime' ballistic missile with a range of 2,000 kms

The <keyword id="32723" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="defence" source="Orion">defence</keyword> ministry has approved a fresh list of 928 components and subsystems which will only be procured from the domestic industry after a ban on their import kicks in under a staggered time-line of around five-and-half years. The ministry on Sunday said the aim of the move is in sync with the government's overall aim to promote 'Atmanirbharta' (self-reliance) in defence production. It is the fourth such "positive indigenisation list (PIL)" comprising line replacement units, sub-systems and components used for various military platforms, equipment and weapons. "To promote 'Aatmanirbharta' in defence and minimise imports by defence public sector undertakings, the <keyword id="6369097" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ministry-of-defence" source="Orion">Ministry of Defence</keyword> has approved fourth Positive Indigenisation List (PIL) of 928 strategically-important line replacement units/sub-systems/spares and components, including high-end materials and spares, with import substitution value worth Rs 715 crore," the ministry said in a statement. The aim of the indigenisation list is also to minimise imports by the defence public sector undertakings (DPSUs). The defence ministry has set specific timelines for import ban of the items, spanning the period from December 2023 to December 2028. This list is in continuation to the three similar PILs that were brought out in December 2021, March 2022 and August 2022 "These lists contain 2,500 items which are already indigenised and 1,238 (351+107+780) items which will be indigenised within the given timelines," the ministry said. Of the 1,238, 310 items have been indigenised so far, it said. The items which were already indigenised comprised 262 from the first PIL, 11 from the second list and 37 from the third PIL, according to the ministry. "The DPSUs will undertake indigenisation of these items through different routes under 'Make' category and in-house development through the capabilities of MSMEs and private Indian industry, thereby providing impetus to the growth in economy, enhanced investment in defence and reduction in import dependence of DPSUs," the ministry said. "In addition, this will augment the design capabilities of the domestic defence industry by involving academia and research institutions," it said. Our troops bravely stopped PLA from encroaching upon our territory and forced them to go back to their post," Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said in the Lok Sabha. The minister said that the issue had been taken up with China through diplomatic channels. "After this incident, on December 11, the local commander of the area held a flag meeting with his Chinese counterpart under the established system and discussed this incident. The Chinese side was refused all such actions and told to maintain peace at the border," Singh told the Lok Sabha. The Defence Minister said that no <keyword id="1052484" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-troops" source="Orion">Indian troops</keyword> were killed or seriously injured in the incident. Singh said, "In this face-off, a few soldiers on both sides suffered injuries. I'd like to tell this House that none of our soldiers died or suffered any serious injury. Due to the timely intervention of Indian military commanders, PLA soldiers have retreated to their own locations." "This matter has also been taken up with China through diplomatic channels. I want to assure the House that our forces are committed to guard our borders and ready to thwart any attempt that will be made to challenge it," Rajnath Singh said.
