A day after <keyword id="830092" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zomato">Zomato</keyword> suffered a security breach as its data was hacked and details of 17 million users were at risk, founder <keyword id="476451" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Deepinder-Goyal">Deepinder Goyal</keyword> assured of zero risk to the users. Zomato stated they were working with the hacker to see how he carried out the hacking. “The 'ethical hacker' - whose identity has been kept under wraps - simply wanted to expose the security vulnerabilities in the company's structure,” read the blog post. Zomato stated the hacker has been very cooperative. “His/her key request was that we run a healthy bug bounty program for security researchers,” Zomato stated in a blog. Following the events, Zomato is going to announce a bug bounty program on Hackerone. “We look forward to working more closely with the ethical hacker community to make Zomato a safer place for our users,” said Zomato. <div type="javascript" title="Custom"><cdata><![CDATA[

 About 6.6 million users had password hashes in the leaked data and only five data points were exposed - user IDs, Names, Usernames, Email addresses, and Password Hashes with salt. "60% of users use Google/FB for logging in to Zomato. We don't have passwords for these accounts - therefore, these users are at zero risk," Goyal tweeted.

 A customer canceled his order after he found out that the Zomato delivery boy wasn't Hindu. He resorted to customer care to change the driver or refund the money he paid for the order. However, Zomato denied both.

Zomato just shut up a bigoted customer in less than ten words

New Delhi, After an entrepreneur complained in a LinkedIn post that a <keyword id="830092" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="zomato" source="Orion">Zomato</keyword> delivery agent advised him to cheat the company by paying some money directly to him and enjoy the food, the company's Founder and CEO <keyword id="476451" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="deepinder-goyal" source="Orion">Deepinder Goyal</keyword> said he is "aware" of this fraud and is "working to plug the loopholes". Vinay Sati posted that a Zomato delivery agent suggested that from next time, pay him Rs 200 or Rs 300 and enjoy food worth Rs 1,000. "Aap bas mujhe 200rs, 300rs de dena or 1000rs ke khane ke maje lena," Sati quoted the agent as saying in the post. The agent allegedly told him that "I will show it to Zomato that you have not taken the food but will also give you the food you ordered". "I got goosebumps hearing what scam is happening with Zomato," posted Sati. He ordered some Burger King burgers from Zomato and made the online payment. "And as soon as the delivery boy came after 30-40 minutes, he told me that sir, don't pay online next time," said the entrepreneur. "He said that next time when you will order food worth 700-800rs through COD (cash on delivery) you only have to pay Rs 200 for that." Zomato CEO says aware of fraud at delivery agents' end, fixing it

 Calls and texts sent to Rahul Singh from Business Insider remain unanswered. The NRAI and Zomato have been engaged in a bitter dispute over the foodtech giant’s discount programme that goes by the name ‘<keyword id="4299597" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zomato-Gold">Zomato Gold</keyword>’. The battle has led as many as 2,000 restaurants across India to logout of the platform including those from Tier 2 cities, according to Rahul Leekha, owner of Coffee by Di Bella and a member of the NRAI. The latest salvo from Goyal seems like an attempt to split the community of restaurant owners. He shared screenshots of the gold programme launched by Beer Cafe in August itself and implied that the movement against Zomato benefited a few large chains at the expense of smaller ones. “This is not about aggregators vs restaurants; this is about the small restaurant owner vs the large restaurant owner - and we are being painted as bullies. This logout campaign as it seems now, is driven by Rahul Singh, along with the participation of a few large restaurant owners, to use the NRAI platform to sabotage aggregators and benefit themselves,” Goyal wrote in his post. The logout movement was started by the NRAI chief Singh and multiple other restaurants against the deep discounting offered by food aggregators. Zomato had then offered to change its Gold programme to restrict the usage frequency, allowing consumers to use it just once in a day, which it is planning to stick to.

 At the root of the problem lies the company’s hit offering – <keyword id="4299597" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zomato-Gold">Zomato Gold</keyword>, which offers consumers avail of 1+1 on food and 2+2 on drinks. Zomato also launched the infinity dining feature, where users for a fixed cost can order everything off the menu. However, Goyal himself admitted that “bargain hunters have also joined Zomato Gold and they are hurting some segments of the restaurant industry very badly.” He also promised to modify Zomato Gold which will result in a win-win situation. But he also asked restaurateurs to do their part. He wrote, “I would also want to urge the restaurant industry to proactively look at ways to reduce operating costs, so that eating out becomes more affordable for consumers - our only objective here is to drive the growth of the restaurant industry.” His statement led to multiple restaurant owners ridicule him for not understanding the costs involved in running a restaurant. Most restaurant owners pointed out that it’s the massive discounts offered by food aggregators that is hurting the consumers. Noted restaurateur Riyaaz Amlani mocked the entrepreneur and wrote, “Visionary idea as usual! Maybe we can fire restaurant workers? Or put a gun on our landlord heads to reduce rent? Or buy inferior ingredients so that we can reduce costs, and offer lower prices to accommodate your vision. Why didn’t I think of this before?”
