NEW DELHI: The high-profile composition of the business delegation set to accompany Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> to <keyword id="6355311" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Japan">Japan</keyword> points to new vistas of cooperation between the two nations, in areas ranging from manufacturing to hydrocarbon and technology.

An official downplayed dropping of the names, saying that with any change of guard at the Centre there are changes in the composition of delegations travelling with the PM. The idea is to get additional Japanese business to India and to see who can partner major Indian business firms to make entry here, another official said. 
 The business delegation will attend the the India Japan Business Forum. The PM said he sees the trip as an opportunity to take India’s ties with Japan “to a new level” and increase cooperation in various fields. “I will visit <keyword id="4741" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tokyo">Tokyo</keyword> and Kyoto, and will interact with all sections of the Japanese society, from students, political leaders to captains of industry,” he said on Tuesday.

"You want to brace yourself for a choppy ride because you're going to see sideways markets, temporary pullbacks, corrections."Puri says he's still optimistic about US stocks, especially compared to European and Japanese equities. But he stresses that investors shouldn't chase the market. He's presenting four strategies investors can use. Many of them involve giving up some potential rewards in order to eliminate what he describes as an outsize risk."Gave a plan and be disciplined and not be overly reactive to everything that comes up," he said.<h3>(1) Get real with real assets</h3>Real, physical assets are one component of Puri's strategy: They give investors a way to diversify that is responsive to the challenges the market is likely to face in the next few years."We are looking at a lot of geopolitically induced (volatility)," he said. "The trade wars, the Brexit, the elections, and so forth. So in those instances gold seems to be a good way to hedge."He's also recommending cash. While Puri says cash isn't a great investment over the very long term, right now it's providing better returns than it has in years."What a money market fund or a cash alternative is paying is reasonable enough that it makes sense as a part of your asset allocation," he said.<h3>(2) Go long with long-term Treasuries</h3><a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/bonds" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Long-term US sovereign bond yields</a> have sunk since late last year, but Puri is recommending Treasurys. Those bonds are considered some of the safest investments in the world, and they are still providing much higher yields than bonds from other developed economies.For investors seeking other bond options, Puri adds: "We are advocating a short-duration, high-quality sort of bond portfolio. We are a little bit overweight on the municipal bond side."<h3>(3) Get some structure with structured notes</h3>Puri says structured notes are a smart way for investors to limit the pain a volatile market can inflict. A structured note is a debt security whose performance is linked to an underlying asset, such as an equity index or a foreign currency. The bond component protects the principal investment, and the remainder is used to buy a derivative.While that limits the investment's upside, Puri said it creates an important "barrier" against losses."You can be protected for, say, the first 20% of the correction," he said. "It's narrowing the potential range of outcomes of your return."<h3>(4) Go into overdrive with overlays</h3>To implement Puri's last tip, you'll need to figure out the maximum amount of loss you're willing to take in your portfolio. New Delhi, Apr 14 () The real estate industry on Tuesday welcomed the decision to extend the lockdown period till May 3, but said the government should allow limited construction activities with proper safety and also provide a relief package to ease the liquidity crisis faced by builders. "We support the prime minister's announcement on extension of the lockdown. We are looking forward to the blueprint by the government to be revealed on April 20 and would also urge the government to permit limited construction activity as this will help the real estate sector unfold its economic movement in a staggered way," CREDAI National Chairman Jaxay Shah said in a statement. The need of the hour is the economic package by the RBI to address the liquidity challenges being faced by the housing sector, he added. Ashish R Puravankara, MD Puravankara Ltd, said, "the quarantine lockdown has been extended and it is primarily for the health and safety of the nation, which is the focal point at this time. Industry sectors will certainly take time to revert to sync once the lockdown is lifted. We will await the individual state advisories on the plans for post 20th April."Property consultant Anuj Puri said, "it's the right thing to do given that life is much more important to protect at this stage than the economy.""We however hope that some of the areas where COVID-19 hasn't hit would start to open and at least with social distancing business will start production," Puri added. Realty sector welcomes lockdown extension, seeks relief package to cushion liquidity crisis

By Deepak Patel New Delhi, Jun 15 () IndiGo aims to operate 70 per cent of its pre-COVID-19 flights by the end of this year, its CEO Ronojoy Dutta on Monday said, adding that resuming international passenger services in July would be a "good idea". The Centre should allow the airlines to operate 50 per cent of their pre-COVID domestic flights now, Dutta told in an interview, while expressing hope that the limits imposed on airfares would be removed in August as promised by the government. India's largest airline IndiGo operated around 1,500 daily flights in the pre-COVID era. Around 20-25 per cent of these flights were on international routes while the remaining operated domestically. The Centre resumed domestic passenger flights from May 25 after a gap of two months amid the coronavirus pandemic. However, it allowed airlines to operate only 33 per cent of their pre-COVID flights and imposed lower limits and upper limits on airfares as per the flight durations. Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had on May 21 said that the limit on air fares will be in place till August 24. Dutta said, "We are at 30 per cent (of pre-COVID traffic) now. We would like the government to take it to 50 per cent. We will pause and see what happens. Because the traffic has to be profitable otherwise it is not worth it. And at that point, we would like to take it to 70 per cent by the end of the calendar year." "I think Mr. Puri is talking about opening international traffic in July, and I think that is a good idea, and he should follow that...I think that the lockdown needs to be eased," he added. Puri had said on June 7 that India will take a decision on resumption of international passenger flights as soon as countries ease restrictions on entry of foreign nationals. On fare limits imposed by the government for domestic flights, Dutta told , "It is good for the government to try different things under this crisis because no one knows what the real answer is. So it is good to do a lockdown, it is good to set up a 30 per cent capacity, it is good to put a fare cap of some kind just to see all this works out until more data becomes available." "Now that we have seen all this, we need to move to the next step. We need to ease the lockdown, take the 30 per cent up to 50 per cent. The government was afraid that there might be some huge spike in fares and that has not happened. They have promised to take it off (fare limit) in August and I hope they will do that," Dutta noted. The CEO mentioned that IndiGo started with around 240 flights on May 25 and is now operating about 350 daily flights. "So, the capacity is up. Our passenger loads are up. Our unit revenue has gone up. And just as importantly, future bookings are up. Everything is pointing in the right direction," he added. The strongest demand we are seeing is on flights connecting metro cities to non-metro cities, the CEO said. "A lot of traffic goes to the east. But it is not as if Delhi-Patna flight is full and Patna-Delhi flight is empty. It is good in both directions, but is clearly stronger in one direction," he explained. He mentioned that there is less corporate demand as people are preferring to meet via video conferencing on Microsoft Teams, Zoom application. "But the demand at the bottom end (the one that comes from leisure travellers) is good. And the pricing is also very good. So we are very encouraged by it," he added. The CEO mentioned, "I think that is a long term trend. Traffic at the top end (corporate traffic) will have less demand. If people were flying on Delhi-Mumbai three times a month, they would now do it two times a month or one time a month. On the other hand, they will rely on technology like Zoom." The aviation sector globally has been hit extremely hard because of the travel restrictions imposed by the countries in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dutta said that IndiGo, in order to reduce its expenses, will return all 120 A320ceo aircraft within the next two years as they have high maintenance costs and higher fuel burn. He added that the airline would be taking delivery of "a lot of" newer generation A320neo aircraft during the same time period, but they would not replace all outgoing A320ceo planes in one-to-one ratio. "We have decided for the next two quarters to take around 30 of them (A320neos). Beyond that we will pause and see," Dutta noted. At least 10 top Indian companies are looking for CEOs — do you have what it takes?

New Delhi, Mar 25 () The nationwide lockdown for next 21 days amid spread of coronavirus will severely impact residential real estate as housing sales have almost come to a standstill, which could affect builders' cash flow and lead to default in repayment of bank loans, according to property developers and consultants. Market experts also fear that existing customers might delay payments of their instalments to developers, who in turn could default in repayment of principal and interest on bank loans. Developers may hold on to apartment rates, but prices in the secondary or resale market could fall, they said. To mitigate the impact, developers and brokers are adopting digital marketing tools to reach out to prospective home buyers. When contacted, realtors' apex body CREDAI President Satish Magar said the lockdown will greatly impact the sales transactions and new launches will be deferred. "There are chances of many customers defaulting on their instalments because of tough economic conditions. These will have a cascading effect on developers-who will be battling with servicing their debts as cash inflows will be strained," he added. NAREDCO President Niranjan Hiranandani said overall sales numbers have dropped. The lockdown has opened up opportunities for digital platforms for sales and marketing activities, as also payments, he said. Bengaluru-based Puravankara MD Ashish R. Puravankara said: "At this point, no property registrations are taking place and all new project launches are postponed". As all construction sites are under lockdown, there will be a delay in completion leading to an increase in the interest cost, he added. "Additionally the lockdown could hamper the cash flow cycle of the developers' balance sheets and could result in bank defaults", said Ashish. Anarock Chairman Anuj Puri said the lockdown will have a negative impact on housing sales and new launches during the auspicious festivals of Gudi Padwa, Akshaya Tritiya, Navratri and Ugadi. "This is a time when AV technology to enable virtual site visits and walk-throughs will gain increased relevance and use," he said. Anshuman Magazine, Chairman &amp; CEO (India, South East Asia, Middle East &amp; Africa), CBRE said: "It is too early to comment on the impact of Covid 19 given that the situation is still evolving ... We are confident that once the situation normalises, sales will resume". Dhruv Agarwala, Group CEO, Housing.com and PropTiger.com, said the lockdown will have an adverse impact on real estate. "We too have begun to see a dip in traffic on all our platforms," he said, adding that the company has come out with innovative schemes for builders and brokers to advertise on its websites. Siva Krishnan, MD (Residential Services and Developer Solutions), JLL India said the lockdown will definitely have an impact on housing sales, but briefly. Shalin Raina, MD- Residential Services, Cushman and Wakefield, said the complete lockdown means lesser sales since most of the transaction closures happen only after site visits. Housing prices have corrected by 15-20 per cent in the last few years and further decline is unlikely, Raina said. Savills India CEO Anurag Mathur said: "Housing sales may see a sharp dip for at least the next one quarter... Even if the situation settles down quickly, it may take time for homebuyers to come back to the market." "Price elasticity is not a concern under the circumstances since the transaction activity is at a standstill anyway. Depending upon the duration and depth of the current crisis, prices may or may not see a downward movement," he said. Omaxe CEO Mohit Goel said the recovery in the housing segment has been halted. "As for real estate prices, there will be no change as transactions are not taking place. The prices will resume at the level it has halted," he said. Gaurs' MD Manoj Gaur said, "The sales are impacted, but it is temporary." Supertech Chairman R K Arora said, "housing sales have completely gone". There are no buyers in the market. Pune-based Gera Developments MD Rohit Gera said, "Real estate sales are at a standstill. So far there has not been any reduction or crash in prices of homes." "In the absence of some relief from the government, more real estate developers with debt obligations will default on account of the stop in cash flows thereby impacting the economy and jobs," he added. M3M Director Pankaj Bansal said housing sales would get impacted during this period of crisis, but it would also create a pent up demand once things get back to normal. Experion Developers Senior ED Ananta Singh Raghuvanshi said, "Sales closures are temporarily getting pushed ahead. Prices won't change." Raheja Developers ED Nayan Raheja said the sales and construction are badly impacted and at standstill. ABA Corp Director Amit Modi said the sales velocity has definitely been slow. Gulshan Homz Director Deepak Kapoor said, "People are deferring property buying decisions." PropEquity MD Samir Jasuja said: "For the real estate sector, this is a tough situation as it was just finding green shoots of recovery. We believe for the next few weeks, we will not see any new transactions for housing sales". Ambience President (Sales &amp; Marketing) Ankush Kaul said: "Housing sales will be impacted for the next few weeks." Ekta World Chairman Ashok Mohanani said the lockdown has affected the business cycle deeply. Wadhwa group, Head - Sales, Marketing Bhasker Jain said the lockdown has impacted sales and the company is offering cashback on online bookings. Brokerage firm 360 Realtors Ankit Kansal said the activities have come to a standstill after lockdown. Sales were down by 30-40 per cent during the first three weeks of March. Investors Clinic Founder Honeyy Katiyal said sales would be impacted but not the price.
